I called Garmin a couple of years ago about the whole zoom thing. They are real good about getting back to you quickly. I took the call while I was still on the water and they told me the same thing you just covered! "Good on ye."
I reviewed your settings videos on both the side scan and the UHD downscan modes and readjusted my settings today based on your recommendations. The results are absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for these videos. Garmin needs to buy your videos and link to them in their owners manuals. Keep up the good work. You rock!
I despise youtubers that are long winded. Thanks for getting to the point. i get so tired of listening to people talk about their family, or fishing trips , or other crap that nobody cares about. I wanna hear the facts, explained simply, or at least to the point. You do a great job. Gonna subscribe, which i dont typically do. Thanks!
Heck yes buddy. Just got an echomap uhd 95sv, middle of the cold Canadian winter, boat in storage, been going through your how to's, preparing for the summer. Love your easy to follow content.
Super helpful tips! Especially that manual zoom thing...was out fishing and could not get my Garmin to behave! lol One of those simple fixes that only takes a sec if you know what your looking for. appreciate it!
Hey good questions. I saw the one where you addressed some common problems. I will look for the settings video and check it out. Thanks. Water ranged from 5 feet to about 24 feet where I was today. I have tried this in water up to 60 feet with similar results.
I have 2 settings videos, one for 54 and one for 56 in regards to side imaging. Both should work for your depths. To me it sounds like your range isn’t set properly Hope they help!
This video helped me as a beginner, thank you. Glad your back. I just tried out the simulator mode yesterday evening. Although as you said, simple things, I saw exactly what you mentioned. Thank you again.
Good job explaining these issues. For me, I cannot seem to get anything to show on my sidescan sonar. I have tried the default settings and explored various settings. Nothing seems to be working according to my expectations. I only get black or solid unintelligible clutter.
Nice man! I had been having issues with mine turning off and not powering on. Last weekend out at Emerald Isle NC, hit some chop and it turned off and wouldn’t turn back on. I’m sure the issue now is that it’s not clicked in completely.
Welcome back! Issue I'm having with my Garmin 74sv is how do I update the unit? I downloaded the update to my Active Captain app and connected via bluetooth to my Garmin unit. But I get a message on the Active Captain app saying to update I need an internet connection. So I don't have that at my boat. Anyway, can you do a video on updating the GPS!
I believe the app requires WIFI internet to first download the update to your phone. Once it’s fully downloaded you can then connect to the units wifi and let the update run
Thank you MG Marine Tech for this video. I'm not sure if what you address will assist me. I've only used my new Garmin 2 times on the lake. I I don't see my down imaging or my side imaging. Maybe they are zoned out. I'll check them next time I'm on the lake. This unit is so dam advance, and it wasn't cheap. $500.00 for my Echomap UHD 73SV. It came with all the Maps too. Everybody raved about these units. So, i choose it over Hummingbird. Not going to give up on it just yet. It might be my transducer. The Real Time GPS maps are great. But, all I want now is to have it up and running in simple mode . Maybe, i need to do a Reset, maybe not. I'll keep playing around with it. I'm not at the lake every day. But, I can go in my back yard, fire up the unit and play around it as I did this evening. I guess I can put it in simulator mode to do or check on these adjustments. Why doesn't Garmin provide these simple set up/ training tutorials. From what I seen, they have these so called reps. that talk way over our heads.
Thanks for the simple explanation, zoom was killing me as other screens have an off setting. I have a G3 1652 that I’m fitting out with good electronics as most lakes here are 9.9 limited. I have a EM 126 sv that I mounted up front but after watching some of your vids I ordered a 93 uhd that I plan on putting up front and moving the bigger screen back where I do most of my chart plotting. It’s getting old scooting to the ft of the boat to pause the screen and drop a waypoint lol. Thanks to your help did drop my first waypoint a couple weeks ago on a rock pile that I caught a nice four pounder on. Livescope helped too 😜
I know you’ve done a video about way points with garmin in the past. I still struggle to efficiently get these imputed when scanning on big motor. I came from lowrance and marking was super quick and easy. Maybe a little deeper dive video? Enjoy the content man!
Always a simple explanation for someone new to Garmin. Just when I think I've got the different models figured out, I don't. Is there simple description between the Echomap UHD 93sv & a UHD 94sv other than a little more $$$?
G'day Max. From Australia. Ha ha, I think you solved one of my problems on down Vu with the bloody zoom, I knew it was on zoom but was looking for an off button in the menu lol. Ahh you have made my day. Cheers.
Good info. Enjoy your videos. Can you touch on the map a new lake recoding feature, how to use it and how to view your map after you make a recording. I fish a lot of small lakes that there is not a map available.
My Garmin works for several hours and then it shuts down. Once it dies for the first time, it will happen more frequently. This can be on dead calm water, no jarring of the device. All the wires are proper gauge, connections are solid, fresh water only (no corrosion). Cradle appears solid. Any thoughts?
Hey man I have two echomap 93sv’s, one at the front one at the console. I bought the Garmin cable to try and link them together, and I get an error code that says “remove unsupported devices from panoptix port”. The two graphs are compatible because they are both the same, any idea?
No I am not, just the two units together so I can mark waypoints on both of them at the same time from the console. So I have to get two new sd cards and the active captain app correct?
Great video. Can you do one one tracks / Routes. It seems as mine in continuous which means I am alway running over and over each train making it very clustered. Also if I make a trail I want to be able to run it without overwriting the trail
Great videos! I have watched the ones on settings, but I still cannot seem to get crisp images, particularly on my sidevu. I believe my transducer is levelled properly, and I have the stock one, not the upgraded gt56.
I'm having the same issues I wonder if I have it too flush with the bottom of the boat or I'm wondering I have mine mounted pretty far away from my engine and I have a deep V so the transom gradually goes higher towards the side of the boat so I'm wondering if it'd not far enough in the water??
What is the thick yellow line at the top? I don't remember that the first couple of times I used mine and then it appeared. Also your tips solved the zoom issues so thank you!
Yesterday while on the water I noticed when I was at the helm unit using conventional sonar it showed vertical static lines like when you are out of the water. Side imaging and down imaging worked fine. Do you have any ideas? My bow unit (93 sv) worked fine in all 3 views.
Cradle sucks. Mine kept powering down. Bar I told me to update to the latest version. Still did it. They sent me a new cradle almost immediately as the next step.
I only run my gps and depth but I have a problem with my Garman echomap sv , where it freezes on me and stops leaving my crumbs and stops my depth …… It’s about 8 years old and I’ve never had any sad card in it
On the Garmin 1242 Xsv. A couple of the buttons on the touch screen won’t work. Any help on how to recalibrate the screen or if something else needed to be done, is greatly appreciated.
I’ve just bought a renegade 440 with a echo map uhd front view I want to know if I can connect a sounder with side view to this or should I only have 1 unit on my boat. Thanks I’m in QLD Australia 🇦🇺 keep posting your videos your info is easy to understand. Cheers mate 🤙😎
@@MGMarineTech I can’t get out to the boat to look it’s raining and nighttime here but the owners manual says it’s a 6 inch model if that’s any help. If not I’ll get back to you tomorrow thanks 🙏.
It didn’t work very well there. I mounted it to my new boat and I’ve honestly unplugged it. My style of fishing has changed and I got sick of always having to recalibrate the sensor. Most likely my install that’s causing the issues, but just haven’t gotten back around to messing with it.
I am having a heck of a time trying to figure out the proper brightness and contrast not sure what I'm doing wrong having trouble keeping the bottom on the bottom of the graph I have 93 suv
How do you prevent feedback through the transducer from the trolling motor? I have the same Garmin transducer but mounted to a PowerDrive V1 and if the trolling motor is running I see feedback on the fishfinder
I have a question , I saw how you removed it off manual ,, and set it on none ,, but if one sets it in auto ? Would it be the same as none , or what would the difference be ?
I have the 106sv and the 9sv. I just purchased them and conceted them to each other. The 10 always has line in the middle (black area) of the side view, lines in the top of the live down view, and never in the traditional down view. The 9 is in my tower and seems to get the lines in the same spot after it get warm or warmed up. The only thing I could find that made since is interference from some where but I'm not sure what could cause that. Is there a simple fix for this also? If this help, I also have the gt51 transducer that came with the boat and it is a few years old. I did not use the gt54 that they came with. Thanks for your help if you have time.
Great video. So many setting on each view. I just replaced my trolling motor with a ultrex..i checked the fuse in the head its ok. Ive got extensive dc electrical experience but this is making me loose hair. Side view runs clean on 455..noise on 1k? Cant remember but highest..also bad noise in 2d..Clears after a few seconds on auto gain..wierd! Ive rerouted power and added ferrite clips...considering running separate power from battery to my front unit..thoughts? Thanks Rob
@MGMarineTech absolutely not..everything is separated Even took start battery off charger..been on this for a couple of weeks..transducer is on TM. done several times over th years. I don't see any dammage on transducer cable..unit is 3 yrs old. I just did the first update from garmin yesterday. I live on a lake so testing isn't a problem..will do that today before the weather gets bad. I haven't called garmin tech yet..wanted to do all I could. Just wondering if you ever heard of wierd transducer ops. Down view is perfect..2d is bad..I can live with 455 but I'd like to fix it
@@robfranke1 if it started when you replaced it with the ultrex that makes sense. Minn kota trolling motors are EXTREMELY electrically noisy and if the transducer is mounted to the trolling motor it makes the problem very hard to eliminate. Garmin will tell you to put the ferrite bead on it (which doesn’t solve major interference issues in my experience) and after that they will blame the motor. Which they are kind of right to do. The new brushless motors don’t have these issues. The the ultrex was a used unit, (sometimes even new ones will do this) there could be damage to the magnets in side or even worn brushes will make this issue worse. One thing you can try is to “braid” the power cable for the trolling motor. Basically twist the power cables for it together. Others have found that running a ground wire from the skeg of the trolling motor to the negative of the trolling motor battery bank helps as well.
Hi MG Marine Tech, I have a Echomap 72sv on my boat (Sea Doo Switch) with the transducer mounted in the engine compartment. I am not getting any depth readings and it is showing me fish all over the place with the depth of the fish. Any ideas or thoughts on what the issue might be? I would appreciate and comments back. Thank you
Great video - all these help. My current issue is with a 1st gen echomap 73sv - can not get it to power up. Checked all cables and voltage - all good - unit will not power up - never dropped it - took it off the boat in fall worked fine - first try this spring and nothing. Garmin helping me through the steps but turning into a dead end. No service shops around - any ideas? Thanks
Thanks for the quick reply MG, yes I have it stripped out of my boat now - checked battery voltage, cables, fuse - right through the to plug that goes directly into the sonar unit. This is an older cradle where the plug is just held in place and plugs directly into the unit - checked the prongs in the back of the unit - no corrosion and none missing or bent. Totally stumped and disheartened - great unit - had planned to move it to the bow and have 2 units on the boat.
@@muskokafishnhack the next step is to make sure there is power coming out of the cradle. I don’t remember the exact pins that are the power and ground but that’s what I will be covering
I do not, but I just used the included trolling motor transducer mount and a cornfield crappie cable saver to run the cable up the shaft. It’s not fail proof but it’s better than nothing
I'm trying to switch my unit from KM/h to Mph in my garage under the speed heading. Does it need to have GPS reception in order for that function to change on screen? It's still showing km/h for some reason
Any advice on trolling motor interference (EMI) on the Echomap screen on bow mounted units with transducers mounted to the underside of the trolling motor? THX
I use a Garmin Echomap UHD 63cv with a GT24UHD transducer at the bow of my boat. It’s only a year and half old. The past two weeks I haven’t been able to use it because it keeps telling me my transducer is not connected. I’ve read that it mean my transducer is shot, but I can’t believe that. So I’ve turned to RU-vid for suggestions. Have any?
I have a Harmon 106 ultra with gt54 transducer but the right side of the side image is really bad distorted, pretty sure I need a new transducer can you help with warranty or do I have to go directly to garmin?
The issue I had recently was a transducer not connected. I have 2 of these units in my boat so I swapped out the cradle and head units and still had the same thing. Garmin sent a new cradle and it's fixed. Just by swapping them out I'd have figured the ducer was bad. Any input on why this happened???
Let me word this better. I'd power up and when I'd turn sonar in id get a message saying transducer not connected power down and check connection. Everything was connected properly. I swapped cradles and heads and the same thing, but a new cradle fixed the issue.
@@mrwho2118 yes I see this quite a bit, and I haven’t seen one single solution fix it every time. Sometimes all that is needed is to simply unplug the transducer and plug it back in, other times it’s just a restart that is needed. In your case it sounded much more consistent and did sound like a faulty cradle to me. I assume sometimes the pins don’t make contact properly between the unit and the cradle or the cradle and the transducer.
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ru-vid.comUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
There are a couple of things that could be going on. Message me on Facebook or email me some pictures at mgmarinetech@gmail.com and I’d be happy to take a look
have you found out why these units freeze and shut down intermittently? i have 3 of them linked and its very annoying and a lot of prople complaining of same issue. seems like only happens on the water????
I’m going to be doing a video very shortly on the symptoms of a bad transducer. But in the mean time there are a couple of things you can check. Is your transducer mounted on the right side of the boat? And if so, if you trim up does it get better? Does it get better if change the frequency?
@@mathiotoutdoors8464 usually the dead giveaway of a bad transducer is one side will be basically black for the entire side. But when changed to a different frequency it will look normal.
@@MGMarineTech I have a tourney this weekend. I’ll try using another frequency and see if that helps. If not, I’ll reach out to Garmin. Thanks for your insight.
I have a UHD 64cv and on the navigation, I can't zoom in closer than 12 miles or I get a blank map. I've updated the software and charts for my area, still no change. Any ideas?
@@MGMarineTech Yeah, it even shows my last trip around the lake, but when I zoom in from 12 miles to 8 miles, it's just a blank yellow map with my old route just there in the middle of blank yellowness. Areas where it shows streets etc, all disappear when I get past 12 miles :/
Hey man. Any idea why my map depths dont match my sonar depths. Its off 10-15 ft. Kind if frustrating. Im no expert so there may be somthing im missing.
Just watched your video about sharing data among units. I hooked up my 2 echo map 93's but get message saying they are not compatiable. Used the panoptics cable. Any idea why? One is uhd the other isn't.
No it should look better. This time of year however the clarity of the water can be bad which will make the image suffer. Have you tried my settings videos ?
