I was not aware that there is now a 120Hz option, which is a MUST, to have a proper experience with FSR 3 and FG .

I hope many PS5 games will get updated with FSR3 frame generation. It's a complete blessing for those with 120hz VRR displays.

@@teddyholiday8038 agreed 100%, i beat the game in graphics mode because of that, i don’t know for sure if the problem of Rebirth is due to the scale of the game wich is gigantic or maybe because of UE4, but sure the graphics on performance mode are NOT good

​​@@TheGabrielSevero123 I don't know what FF7 Rebirth's deal is. My best guess is that the game was rushed in terms of visuals. Obviously the blur in performance mode is the most noticed. But the low quality textures slapped everywhere can be pretty bad too. Sometimes it looks like Xbox 360 levels of geometry and textures in the environments. Personally the blur is the only thing that actively bugs me. But it's obvious given the textures too that the game just didn't take its time with it. But I like the game, so 🤷‍♂️. It's just annoying in the modern era where we are used to better

I wonder if other titles like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora could add this tech in. The first dlc comes out in the summer so I’m hoping for frame generation in the game.

Ok here's what's happening. In 60hz refresh you have vsync enabled. On top of that, the game is actually rendering at 30 fps and getting it frame genned to 60. Which means you will have artefacts as real 30 fps is not enough for frame gen to produce clean enough motion image as it doesn't have enough real frames per second to work with. That is basically why at 60 fps (30 real + 30 fake) it looked awful and felt like you are chugging a train as you have 30 fps plus added input latency from fake frame genning plus added input latency from vsync triple buffer. Now with 120hz vrr mode, you have basically "unlocked" the fps, the game will push past 30 fps and since it is 90-100 fps that means it is pushing into 45-50 real fps range and thus there are more real FPS for frame gen to work with and as thus the picture will look cleaner (less artefacts will be observed since there is less gap to fill between 2 real frames) and obviously that much smoother. Now with 120hz vrr mode, Vsync is not used unless you hit 120 fps so basically there is no added input lag from vsync as vrr is now polishing all the in between frames. So you get lower input lag due to the game rendering at 45-50 fps (which is about 60-80% faster compared to 30 fps input) and due to not using actual vsync cap. In any case, in order for frame gen to actually shine you need the game to actually render 60 real fps and then get that upframed to 120 fps for that proper smooth, clean motion picture without much input lag but I believe it's bearable until you go bellow 40 real fps (which is 80 upframed). Even though this isn't free performance (artifacts and HUD judder and the latency are noticeable to me) the extra smoothness really helps with understanding what's going on on the screen.

I’m enjoying this game. It’s good to see that EA didn’t abandon the folks who bought the game, even though the could’ve, considering the low # of people that supported the game This will be a “hidden gem” in 2030

Disabling V-Sync really helps with input lag. But you need VRR for this otherwise there’s horrendous tearing. For people like me with 120Hz VRR displays this feature is amazing.

VRR won't prevent tearing if the fps is above your display's max refresh rate. Enabling vsync is strongly recommended when using frame gen by AMD themselves "It is recommended to use AMD FSR 3 with VSync, as when enabled, frame pacing relies on the expected refresh rate of the monitor for a consistent high-quality gaming experience."

You must’ve missed the newer versions of FSR 3 Frame Generation and the patch notes for this latest update. ‘On console and PC, the FSR 3 update also extends support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) monitors and TVs, which can improve frame pacing to help reduce judder or screen tears’

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but v-sync off feels much worse than on and I'm on a 120hrz vrr display. It's juddery and not smooth at all. Maybe it's an xbox issue idk

@@mrartezi2667 It's recommended to enable vsync when using frame gen. It helps with frame pacing which lowers the stuttering/juddering you are seeing.

Thats a really big IF bcause its gonna be up to the devs if they implement everything or its gonna be a ps4 pro situation all over again that aside from first party not many devs really used the extra horsepower, and it also depends if the game is cpu bottleneck you wont get a much better frame rate unless the dev uses frame gen and it will be implemented also on the normal ps5 so it wont make much of a difference we should see

This is what all those PS5 games needs and with PS5 PRO it will be even better. It is way pass time to get rid of 30fps modes 4k native mode. Rather use AI to get easy 60fps then unlock the frames so we get 120fps with Frame Gen and enjoy the consoles much better!

Many games have this weird stuttering when using the controller to pan the camera around, even with a higher refresh rate. Something weird is still happening. Dead Space (remake) is a good/bad example of this, and so is this game now too.

Yeah this is horrible. There is similar stuttering in Uncharted and the Last of Us 1,2 Remastered when 120hz/VRR is on.

On Xbox VRR doesn't work with v-sync off in this game. Tv just reports flat 119 and the picture is very juddery with tearing as if there was no VRR. So on Xbox at least definitely keep v-sync on

Its a bug. VRR for this game on Xbox doesn't work anymore. Turn vsync on till they patch it. You'll still get over 100fps at certain times.

Hello, I have an S95C professionally calibrated to Bt.2020, and the picture is simply stunning. My only concern is with the Hgig settings because it maps the image to 2000 nits, and I'm not sure if 20 clicks in the HDR console settings are correct. It's great news that AMD is finally adding FG to FSR 3 for consoles. Best regards.

I was a bit confused in the last video. FrameGen starts to shine when your basic fps are above 60. FrameGen makes no sense with a limit of 60fps/hz.

Lossless scaling's framegen is literally better than both AFMF and FSR3. AMD can't do anything right. LSFG actually doesn't have framepacing issues. Also it's not "generated somehow" it's really just motion interpolation. But it works! And works really great in LSFG 2.0 (didn't try DLSS3 yet)

You must be doing something wrong, AMD framegen works great in this game and Avatar FOP on PC. You need to enable vsync to not have frame pacing issues as is recommended.

This juddering is a known issue with FSR3, it's something Digital Foundry has pointed out in some of their videos. This is not supposed to happen and sometimes doesn't even trigger all the time when enabling FG in the same game. DLSS3 FG also doesn't have this judder.

This is not true. It's not an issue with the AMD frame generation tech itself, it's an issue with the implementation in each game, either being good and bad, and it has also happened with Nvidia frame gen when it's been poorly implemented.

My tv can do 4k 60 hz but it can do 1440p and 1080p at 120hz because of hdmi 2.0 and i dont have vrr but even without it the experience is way better than those unstable 60 fps the game had on realease and the input lag i really cant notice it

@@amnril FSR and DLSS upscalers still rely on a high enough base resolution to give good results. Upscaling from anything below 1440p gives pretty poor results, with lots of shimmering and blurrier image quality. So it is still relevant.

Its cool but in heavy combat you feel the frame drops A LOT. Event though it drops to like 75 FPS it feels like 20 and you can see the hitches. People just test this while walking around and call it a day. I have an LG C2 by the way.

@@Dawdo-wf1xs LFC only kicks in when framerate is below VRR range which is not the case here unless your TV's VRR range is different. It is usually 48~120fps.

It does not matter, you will only notice when when frames are dropping below 60fps. They key with this is to use AI to render the frames needed to draw frames in real time and not every frame natively without quality loss or at least not noticable quality loss, this will give you way more frames, then use Frame Gen to double the frames at a little expense of input lag

I dont have VRR and there are drops yeah but they dont feel like 20 fps at least not for me the game just loose some smoothness but it doesnt feel bad i think it felt terrible before the frame gen update

Thats what xbox fanboys said because they still think the ps5 doesnt use an rdna 2 chip for the gpu and it does the ps5 can do fsr 1, 2, 3 and frame gen with no issues so no the update wasnt only for xbox

Frame gen is for taking advantage of high refresh displays, so yes you will not see much if any benefit on a 60Hz display.

No you wont really see a difference with my 4K tv i can do 60 hz but it accepts 120 hz on 1440p so if i enable the 120hz mode i got 1440p and it feels way better even when i dont have vrr but yeah this is a game changer for fast pace fps games like this to be honest but i probably wouldnt use it for a third person slow paced game i just stay at the highest quality mode on those hahaha

Maybe but frame gen is supposed to be used at a minimum base frame rate of 60 fps (before frame gen is used) otherwise you get very noticeable image corruption and huge input lag, and it would make the experience not a good one. Frame gen is really there to take advantage of high refresh rate displays and not to boost low performing games. This seems to be a misconception a lot of people have.

@@fashric10 true. But 40fps could also be a baseline for base framerate before FSR frame gen. If 30fps games already have headroom that is at least 40fps, then frame gen could be a good thing.

@@Sejuani89 I'm not sure I understand what you are saying? I mean, if you are able to deal with the much worse quality and horrible input lag you could start at a base rate of 10fps! 60 fps minimum is recommended for a good reason. The less frames you start with the worse your experience will be.

It’s definitely not running 25/30fps better on the series X lol they both run pretty much the same I’d say the visuals look bit sharper on series x but still soft overall due to low internal resolution

It will be about 10-30ms more than you experience without frame gen. Really not noticeable when using a controller, but it can be when using a mouse.

Depends on the game, I would not use this on call of duty games or other competitive FPS games if it's on consoles due to higher input lag. Usually these games have good frame rate anyway on PS5.

They are optional, and on console they have always had to use tricks like checkerboard rendering to get games to run acceptably on consoles.

Well, basically with VRR, is that with PS5 VRR replaces the ancient V-Synch. If you've got the setting of always VRR, you are applying VRR to all games even if they don't support it. So, activating V-Synch. via the game, it conflicts with VRR via PS5...

No. VRR and vsync work together. VRR does not replace vsync. Please do some reading on the subject before spreading misinformation. Blurbusters have a great article on how it works if you are actually interested. Google blur busters gsync 101
