I think it's the Austria-Hungarian version, not the German one. Because the first tone is seperated: "Gott erhalte...", whereas for the Deutschlandlied it would not be seperated "Deutschland, Deutschland ...". Also in other places, the articulation of the music is played more towards the Austrian text. Can you tell us where you got the recording from and who is playing? Thank you.

Haydns original Version became Volkshymne (people Anthem) especially after the Victory over Napoleon 1814/15. Haydn wrote it 1797 as support for the imperial House after Revolution in 1789 to unite the people after the emperor. The real Kaiserhymne started with Francis Joseph who reigned the country 68 years (1848 to 1916). This second Anthem was the Anthem for 3 generations

It did not become the German anthem until announced by the President in 1922.Words different of course and when the complete Hayden score is used the difference can be heard. Incidentally the Germans thought that the Austrians ( by then a republic) might object but they didn’t. Alas

Do you mean that the recording is from the Nazi era? If so, I am inclined to believe you. If this recording had been made prior to 1918, it would have been an acoustic one rather than electrical and I do not believe that the acoustic recording technology of the time would have allowed such a rich sound to be captured without muffling and distortion. Electrical recording using microphones rather than horns did not begin until the mid '20s, years after the dismemberment of Austria-Hungary.
