I found that learning the Alexander Technique really helped to improve my walking. My movements became lighter and more fluid and walking became much more enjoyable as a result. Hope it helps you too!

Sorry to labour the point but in your walking video when you say head, neck and body moving do you mean the whole body down to the ankles or just the upper body head to waist. Many thanks

hi, I'm healing my hip flexor and was unable to do the right side of the first two exercises. I stopped at that point to write this comment. The first exercise I experience discomfort when swinging to the right and for the second, felt very unsteady and uncomfortable. I feel like I need to learn to walk all over again. Is there a video you would recommend as a precursor to actually walking? Or one that does more basic stuff to establish the ability to walk?

A lot of people find the exercise in this video really useful to start improving walking. Hope it helps! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3_cb9RVbkEE.html

I noticed, that your feet are not straight but splayed out a bit, is that preferred?

Yes, most people's feet will turn out slightly. The natural angle between the feet will be different for everyone and its really important not to impose an angle on yourself. With AT, we are always trying to identify and then stop any habits that we have picked up rather than impose a 'correction' on top of our habits.

What if you have to use a walker.

The same principle applies but you also need to use your arms and hands for support. There's a video on my channel about using crutches that may help a little

Why might my neck tighten up when I walk any distance? I’ve tried keep alignment with head, neck and body, though today I think my hips may have been too far forward.

I think it's worth pointing out that although you notice the tension in the neck, it will be a general pattern of tension affecting many different parts of the body. I would forget about holding the head in a position and stick to the idea of leaving it mobile and balanced with the weight releasing through the whole body and into the ground with each step.. Another good thing to try is to make sure you are standing with a really free, mobile balance and then notice what you do when you take the first step. You may spot whatever is going on with your hips and be able to stop it!

Do you recommend any of your other videos? Thank you!

@@scottelliott6855 I think that the 'constructive rest' videos are really useful for learning how to get more freedom in your neck. Because you are laying down with your head supported on some books, you should be able to find a lot more release in the muscles of the neck which can then help when you go back to standing again. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cPKGEGWqUFc.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RSfxTO7EAyo.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cPKGEGWqUFc.html In terms of walking, I think it woould be worth trying my videos about walking up/down stairs/hills as they reinforce the coordination from this video but with a bit more of a challenge! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-39Gj5CvnfZQ.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qSUVxyG7-1w.html Hope that helps!
