Dr Dray are you able to please do a skincare routine for dark skin? A lot of black people/people of color struggle with hyperpigmentation and stubborn scarring. We also don’t really find sunscreens that aren’t ashy.
My hyperpigmentation was diminished considerably after applying La Roche Posay Cicaplast B5 Baume every night (as I can not wear it during the day because it leaves a white cast on dark skin, but if you're fine with that, you could wear it during the day also.)
I've seen some really good threads on sunscreens that don't leave a cast in darker skin on r/skincareaddiction. I'd love to see Dr Dray do a video on that, but maybe checking that out could be helpful in the meantime if you're looking for a new sunscreen rn! :)
Lisa Juru I would second the Japanese sunscreens...the Nivea super water gel spf 50 is s also a clear, watery gel and Dr. Dray approved...but I think, with hyperpigmentation mineral sunscreens are better, right? I sometimes see black women commenting on sunscreen they like here, but it would be great to have a dedicated video with product recommendations, to point people to. It’s such a large demographic, it really baffles me, that there aren’t more dedicated products.
i *really* like PHAs, and am surprised there's so little talk about them now that the Neostrata/Exuviance patents for gluconolactone, malto- and lactobionic acid have expired. Few other actives have made as big an improvement to my skin as polyhydroxy acids. I'm very happy to hear you sanction their use in this video. 💜
I can't help but notice your skin is nice and glowing most especially in your facial area even in your previous videos? Can you please share what have you been using lately other than what you have shared before? Maybe make an updated video of your holy grails and/or skin routine with all the old and new products that you have been using that are effective so far, to you. Looking forward to that. Thank you!
I barely watch RU-vid videos, but when I comes to you I have to! It's come to the point that I have my notifications on! You have informed the general public about skin care products and have opened our eyes about the ingredients and to stay away from fragrance! Thanks for your time to educate us. I also sunscreen and subscribed !! Have a good day
Oooh, fantastic! Skin texture is something I'd really like to improve. Thank you for always having interesting content. Hope you have a great day!! 😊 -As always thank you for your excellent description boxes!!!
Dr Dray your description box is the best, it's super insightful and I love the format, including all the resources listed AND linked, omg amazing... I agree whole heartedly with Vickytime
For those of you thinking about giving it a try, I wanted to tell you how it worked for me. My problem is that, about 8 months ago, in my forehead stared appearing little patches of raised skin, they are really small, the same color as the rest of my skin and they are not bumps like whiteheads, they are more like irregular patches of skin, but they are not acne scars. I have not found anywhere a name for this, and I cannot go to the dermatologist in this moment. So I decided to give this a try. I started using the Cicaplast B5 Baume by La Roche-Posay thanks to this video about 2 weeks ago (I bought that one because it was the only one from the recommendations I found were I live), and maybe 5 days ago I started noticing a difference. Even my mom mentioned it. The little bumps have started to get flatter, you can still see them, but they are a little less obvious and I feel them a lot less. The texture of them has gone down a lot. I use it every day during the night before applying my moisturizer. I’m going to continue using it to see if they will fade completely. When I have completed a month of using it I will come back to update the results. I hope someone finds this helpful.
Thank you for describing skin care ingredients at length. Your videos are very helpful. Also, I've saved some cash on not purchasing products I really don't need but are over hyped 💖
I have been having issue with milia that has been so annoying your tips and tricks have actually helps my skin over all in a few days of these little changes thank you so much Dr.dray please make a skin care line we need it your honest and save our pockets from all these trends and high priced over hyped products
Thank you Dr. Dray. This is the last product I'm buying. I'm all stocked up with skincare products now. My new skin care routine is starting to work. Much appreciated.
M H I swear by Neostrata products too, but is hard to get them. I use the foaming glycolic cleanser for 6 months and it has improved my skin tone, texture and hyperpigmentation overall I am very satisfied... have a happy day!!!
Not sure if there is a new skincare regime or light you are using? Whatever you are doing right now, your skin is looking FANTASTIC. Haven’t tuned in for the last 6 -8 weeks, I see a dramatic change in brightness, evenness, smoothness, clarity & glow. Wow!
Oh, that might be something for me. My skin definitely has become more sensitive from tretinoin. It doesn’t really like AHA’s anymore. And I would love smoother skin in some areas.
This is wonderful information! I always see products and never know what to do with them. By the way my skin has improved greatly ever since I watch your videos. I’m more aware of the ingredients and what helps my skin more! Thank you so much 😊
Previous to using PHA I've been unable to use any exfoliants including gentle manual exfoliation with a soft cloth due to perioral dermatitis and generally sensitive skin that breaks out due to irritation. I've been using SKIN 1004 Madagascar Centella Asiatica PHA Toner and I not only have I not noticed any irritation but I've also noticed smoother skin! The other ingredients also look good :Centella Asiatica Extracts, Water, 1,2-Hexanediol, Dipropylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Gluconolactone, Tromethamine, Carbomer, Sodium Citrate, Disodium EDTA, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Betaine, Hyaluronic Acid, Ethylhexyglycerin.
Dr. Dray, someone recently said that it looks like I've been out in the sun. I became defensive & adamantly denied this. However, I was later looking at my arms & indeed it looks like I've been out in the sun. Well guess what? I've been working from home all summer & haven't bothered to use sunscreen unless & until I leave my home. It's Seattle, after all. Well, Dr. Dray, you were right, as usual. My face & arms were damaged by the sun from just sitting in my home! So now it's SPF all day, everyday. Thank you, Dr. Dray!
Marcy Yes, especially if one has large picture windows close to one’s computer or a window by the kitchen sink where one spends time washing dishes, etc.
@@wap9137 Yep, that's me. Large picture window in my living room, where I set up my home office. I've been better about using SPF rain or shine, indoors or out.
If someone were using tretinoin or another strong retinoid are there other actives that can be beneficial or is retinoid + moisturizer + sunscreen all you need for acne and overall skin health? Thank you for being an accessible and informative resource for many 💞
I have extremely dry skin and I found retinoid to be very irritating. It made my skin way worse. BUT for oily, non-sensitive skin, it really does wonders.
I’ve been using neostrata bionic face cream for a couple of months now with good results. I have rosacea and I was starting to despair of finding something that was gentle but still provided anti aging benefits. PHAs have improved my skin clarity, smoothness, and firmness with almost no irritation.
Kirsten S. I’ve been using it for about a month now and my purge is finally starting to diminish. Although my skin has never looked better! Apart from my breakouts, my skin tone has never been so uniform. Best of luck, use lots of moisturizer and sunscreen! ♡
I went to my local Shopper's Drug Mart and tested out Neostrata Bionic Lotion for face and body. I sampled it on my face. I bought a rimmel foundation on sale ($6.99). I noticed it didn't contain fragrance. I tried the foundation over the Neostrata. I chose a shade called Porcelain Ivory which is lighter than what I normally wear but it made me look brighter and smoother. I'm 57 years old and read from Carole Jackson's Color Me Beautiful books that a foundation one shade lighter can make you look younger. I'm planning on buying the Neostrata Bionic Lotion because it improved the look of my skin and made the foundation look great. I'm not always able to be vigilant with skincare and make-up removal. I left it on for a couple of days. There was no irritation and my skin looked fresh. It amazed me so much because I have redness and skin build-up around my nose. The foundation was Rimmel Mousse Matte foundation. I had cancer/chemo/surgery 5 years ago which further exasperated my skin. I'm sensitive and oily with maybe seborrheic dermatitis-type skin around my nose. I've always had it on my scalp. Not fun to deal with. I also have used Neostrata's Firming Neck Cream and also love it. Keep up the great work Dr. Dray!
Can you please do a video on healing lesions from excoriated acne from skin picking. Not sure what acid or cream is best and how to reduce redness and scarring.
Happy Monday! I would love to try one of these products with this ingredient. Because I don't have any specific products for hyperpigmentation yet. And that's one of the problems that makes me like to camouflage with makeup. I'm not saying no to a more luminous effect of the skin. Thank you for this video! My next purchase will probably be one of these products.
Your skin is beautiful! Would I use the Polyhydroxyacids before applying the Hada Labo gel cream and cerave skin renewing night cream? I know you say less is best. Thank you!
Hi Dr. Dray. Thank you for the video. I’ve been hesitant to try the AHA and BHAs bc I’m a 53 black female with hyperpigmentation and afraid it would make things worse. I’m pretty interested in the serums you mentioned will consider incorporating into my evening routine. In the morning reporting I use vitamin c and q-10 serums by timeless and they seem to work well. And of course top off with CeraVe lotion! Your mom has beautiful skin, too. Would she be interested in telling us her skincare routine? Have a good evening!
Thank you so, so much for sharing your expertise with us! I discovered your vlog last week and have been binge watching your videos! I've learned so much and ditched so much of my multi-step skin care routine. I've noticed how much more hydrated my skin is by applying lotion on wet skin after washing my face! I've always been hesitant about using too much lotion with my oily, acne prone skin but you've helped inform me otherwise! Thank you!
5 star video with such helpful information. Thanks for the list of products and your sincere reviews. Will also share with family members that have skin texture issues. Happy Monday....Hugs.... Sherry
Neutrogena now makes a 2% PHA face wash that is also fragrance-free. I have personally seen great results with it by using it as my step 1 cleanse, since it does contain oil.
Fantastic video! PHAs aren't talked about enough. Been using a PHA w/Cica from Neoderm for over a year now. Has absolutely helped make my skin super smooth and much clearer...especially after shaving!
I did not know about the benefits of polyhydroxyacids. Thanks for enlightening us! FYI, I found the Exuviance Sheer Daily Protector spf 50 on sale at Ulta right now for $29.40! 😎
My skin is not perfectly smooth. For me, I'm struggling with "orange peel" skin in my cheeks, forehead and nose. I'm 25 with oily/acne prone. I dont wear makeup, I use cerave AM and PM products as well as the SA cleanser. Definitely kept my breakouts clear. But the large pore orange peel look will not go away. I'm not sure what to use for something like this. Any recommendations?
Highly appreciate the videos, thank you. It's nice having a profession walk us through some ingredients and products. You probably get this all the time, but can you talk about what fibrous papules are and what can be done to treat them. I have one on the tip of my nose and it makes me self conscious.
Neostrata 10% PHA serum is my fav. I have combo skin, which can get very oily on sides of my nose, onto my cheeks. I use this serum whenever I want to gently exfoliate my skin while nourishing it as I still want the dew and shine of a hydrated skin. No irritation whatsoever on my retinol-treated skin. The serum has a gooey texture but dries down quickly. I would not recommend it for a morning routine though because it makes it tricky for other layers, such as sunscreen and makeup.
Hi Jackie! I hope you had an amazing day also! I had my first pumpkin muffin today! Come on fall!! 🍁🍂🍁 Have a restful evening. Sweet dreams! Talk to you tomorrow!! 😴
@@lindih111 Hi Sweetie Sooo Glad to Hear From You!! I Miss You More Than You Know!! I Hope Your Getting Some Rest Angle!! I'm Hear For You Always!! I Love You Always and Forever and Ever!! I'm Sending You All the Love Hugs in the World Sweetheart!! Always!! xoxoxO!
I find that they have many soo many extracts that are unnecessary, which are also fragrance. I wish they would simplfy their ingredient lists, or offer simple ingredient products as another line within the brand. My two cents, is that it's overpriced and generally over hyped. I don't think their 'enzyme' selling point really does what they claim it can.
Hi Dr Dray, could you please make a Video about dmso? I feel there is a hype in Germany right now treating everything with dmso believing in its antiflammatory properties. Also believing that Anti-Aging products work better and faster when applied with dmso. Naturopaths love it too. (combined with Essential oils😁)
Gosh! I wished I discovered your channel sooner, your so wonderfully informative and helpful! Lots of love to you and your channel. Also you are looking great here!
Wait! Why your face showing no aging and looking more younger than before?!! Thank u for this because i don't have anything on my face except for the rough texture that looked bad in my make up. Anyone agreed with me?
hotaru tachibana: Per Dr Dray, the only evidence based anti-aging ingredients are sunscreen and tretinoin. She has been a long time user of sunscreen and has been on tretinoin for over 20 months. It can take over a year to see really dramatic results with tretinoin.
I use almost the exact same night routine as you with the same products: hadolabo oil wash, vanicream face wash, red earth humectant, then cera ve moisturizer. How would I fit in polyhydroxy acid into my routine? Also I wash my face with water in the morning, cera ve moisturizer, then la roche posay sunscreen. I’m planning to use the cos rx humectant. Should I replace red earth humectant with the cos rx?
I absolutely love watching your videos in the morning while drinking my coffee! ❤️ On another note, I believe your favorite candles (Yankee Candles) are on sale at Bed Bath & Beyond for $5.99!!! Just FYI 🙂
Can you do a review of different hyaluronic acid serums and suggest the best and things we should look for when looking into hyaluronic acid skincare that's actually effective?
I always look forward to watching your video when I come home from work, thank you. I'm interested in trying one of the products you mentioned...can I apply one with my retinol at night, or should I alternate the two? Thanks for all of your helpful tips, hope you and your mom have a great day!
Thank you, Dr. Dray! I'm excited to try a new product. I have been following a fragrance-free routine with different products you've recommended for over a month now and I can already see and feel a difference in my skin!! I do have a question: is there a cleansing bar you'd recommend? I prefer a bar to liquid, less packaging. Thanks again!
Hi there, I know the question is from a while ago, however, something I’ve tried is Eucerin (German brand) soap bar that has ph 5.5. I use the regular one (it has fragrance in it, unfortunately), but I think a saw fragrance-free version for sensitive skin that is sold in US (I’m not sure if this is still available, I saw it a while ago).
Cristobal Zarate: Have you watched this video yet? This is still the one Dr Dray points people to when they ask her for her AM/PM routine. It is very informative. “DERMATOLOGIST’S SKIN CARE ROUTINE FOR DAY & NIGHT| DR DRAY” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2bG39UXDo8s.html
Thank you for this video! Could you review the Ole Henriksen PHAT Glow Facial mask?? I’m curious to know your thoughts on that mask since it has PHAs in it!
This is one of these vlogs I have to go back and listen to twice. I'm always learning here. Will skin neck texture improve for the over 50 crowd with phas? Would you recommend? Thank you...as always for sharing your knowledge.
Dr. Dray is PHAS safe to use if you are already using an over the counter RetrinA? Will it cause more irritation, should I use PHAS on days when I am not using my RetrinA cream?
sidra usman: I don’t see a product with that name (RetrinA); instead, there is a collection of products from Avene called RetrinAL. And some of them contain retinaldehyde, whereas others do not. Which RetrinAL product do you use?
Loved this video. Very comprehensive. I have just ordered the Polypep serum from Face Theory, which has PHAs. I had known about them before but never really considered purchasing till now, but after this video, I'm excited to try it. Thanks Dr Dray
seductiveblush: This question is asked frequently (in the Comments of this video, et al) and this is the video Dr Dray points people to: “DERMATOLOGIST’S SKIN CARE ROUTINE FOR DAY & NIGHT| DR DRAY” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2bG39UXDo8s.html
Thank you for this very helpful video. I’ve been wanting to use PHA on my sensitive skin for a while now but didn’t know where to start, being a bit scared of acids after some bad experiences.
This was a great video. I’d never heard of these acids. The Exuviance product you mentioned is on sale at Ulta during their current 2- days of beauty. It’s $29.40.
Awesome! Thanks for this info! I’m trying to get over scarring from shingles, scabies, biopsies, bacne and folliculitis. So I find this very helpful as the texture of my skin is awful right now.
I know you have reservations about vitamin c serums but I’ve had good success with the one from cosrx. Can I use the cosrx hyaluronic acid you mentioned together with the vitamin c serum?
Yes, you can use hyaluronic acid with vitamin c.. The ingredient that can be tricky to mix with vitamin c is Niacinimide because it can cause irritation.. Hyaluronic acid is basically just a hydrating ingredient.. I use both daily and have never had an issue..
I am allergic to benzoyl peroxide (swollen eyes reaction) and react terribly to bismuth oxychloride. I struggle to know if certain ingredients are in the same chemical family so am hesitant to try products. I will say that some of your recommendations have worked ok, just not sure if I can use Exuviance. Love these videos, btw, thank you for what you do.
never using acids in my skincare and currently using pha in my skincare routine (2x a week) am on week 2 now. haven’t seen any improvements on my acne scar and still having breakouts 😭 fyi am using the hada labo mild peeling lotion. i hope it works
Oh I'm in the right placeeee, thank youuu. I just found out I may have been doing moisturization wrong, since it's noteably piling or creating uneven skin texture or even acne onto my skin, from using emollient moisturizers. My skin is dry, and sensitive/reactive, but it does have uneven texture or these bumps, that I've always had, until I'm just now realizing... Maybe emollient moisturizers need to be switched to gel moisturizers. So it's very interesting. *unpauses video* 🤔 I thankfully do plan on visiting a dermatologist in person, as well.
Hi Dr. Dray! I’m a 20 year old guy with acne prone skin. I just started following your differin routine and was wondering if it’s ok to use 5% minoxidil around my facial hair. I do tolerate them both but my real concern is the compatibility of those two products. I also want to combat the aging effect of minoxidil, as it inhibits collagen production. Thank you so much!
This is the perfect "Glass Skin" look, your skin is naturally glowing and dewy, your lips and cheeks look flushed but natural. Holy cow you're gorgeous!
Great video I have very sensitive skin, and have just recently started using the CosRx PHA Power Cream. It's great to know it's one you recommend. I might have to try the CosRx Triple HA Serum also. 🤗
