Handling the BE1 Alarm Code in an IMPULSE Series 5 VG+ Drive
Definitions
BE1 Alarm Code: An alarm code that indicates a safety-related issue which must be addressed before further operation of the hoist will be permitted.
Run Command: A command that initiates the operation of the drive.
Holding Break: A device that holds the load when the drive is not in operation.
Rollback Time: The timer that the drive will watch for pulses.
Procedure
Identifying the BE1 Alarm Code: The BE1 alarm code is designed to indicate there is not sufficient torque to hold the load after the brake has opened.
Understand the Alarm Sequence: Any VG Plus Drive does a BE2, then a BE1, and then a BE3 alarm code. The BE2 alarm code does not reference any encoder signal. It is merely motor torque at a time period. The BE1 alarm code says that based on encoder feedback, the drive is seen too many pulses. The BE3 alarm code is actually the opposite of that - it does not see enough or any pulses.
What causes BE3 to occur: A BE1 fault will occur if the pulses received during the BE1 detection time (C08-04) are greater than the expected number of pulses (C08-05).
Checking the Parameters: The parameters that control this are in the group C parameters. Look at the rollback time(C08-04) and rollback count (C08-05).
Resetting the Drive: Once the drive is locked into the BE1 alarm code, the drive will no longer accept the run command and will require a reset function to clear the alarm code condition.
Record the Alarm Code: The BE1 alarm will be recorded in the monitor mode, standard monitors, and can be looked at in the fault trace. The fault trace will show the monitor parameters when the drive tripped.
