I’ve been a Calvinist preacher for 15 years and I’m on the verge of coming free from it. It has led to a fatalistic view of life inside me. I use to be a passionate evangelist…but I’ve been stagnate for years. Encouraged to hear your story.

I appreciate that. I have never been a preacher, but the result on my life was the same. As soon as someone says they don't believe in double predestination, then you know their rational thinking has gone out the window. If people are created as unable to respond to the gospel on any level, even in their hearts or souls, and then are given no opportunity to respond to the gospel, it's irrational to pretend that's not predestination. I can accept that a yearning in a person's heart may be needed to move the Holy Spirit to help the mind, but for there to be no free will involved is far more like robotic entities than images of God who can genuinely love their creator. I'd say to take a look at Dr Heiser's book called ”What Does God Want.” I read the criticisms of Dr Heiser, and went in cautiously, but quickly discovered that the ones criticizing didn't actually listen to what he says. They are criticizing their own interpretations and assumptions.

Calvinism always eventually leads to fatalism. Why even have the Bible at all? Everyone will be who God made them to be. It’s bad theology. I’m so glad that people do get out of Calvinism, there’s no hope in it.

Thank you for this video, Alana. When my husband told me he had become a Calvinist, and screamed at me when I tried to show him scriptures that didn't work with that theology, I went to bed and cried. Now I always pray that God will lead him out of it, since he won't hear anything I say. May the Lord continue to bless you and your family.

I feel your pain. I didn't know that my husband is a Calvinist when I married him and it's been a sore spot in our marriage since. (We married a little over 3 years ago.) I was in our church for over a year when they did a 4-wk series on Calvinism (actually Piperism - my term - as it's Piper's version). All of our couple friends fall into it also, but they say that they aren't 5-pt Calvinists. I do have a friend who is not a Calvinist so I have a little support. I've been told that I'm stubborn, asked why I don't believe that God is sovereign and why do I think I'm right and that everyone else is wrong. It gets tiresome often but I'm steadfast on the truth and am not backing down. However, like Alana, I'm learning to stay calm and try to argue points. I would like her lists that she did that Thanksgiving weekend!!! I'm still going to the church so that I can be with my husband, but I pray often for the truth to be taught there. Not likely soon as Piper lives nearby is revered by most. Remain steadfast. Keep praying for your husband. Lean on God! God bless you!

@@raywinsor3948 Anyone can be joyful. But there is a difference between being happy, and confident in false claims - and true joy that can be shared with anyone. To be joyful in the predetermined destruction of people outside of their control, while one is confident they themselves are not, takes a special kind of blindness. The Gospel is for everyone. No one is predetermined for hell. Salvation is a free gift. A gift must be received or rejected because it is offered. John 3:36 “Look the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”. It’s true Ray. But that gift BY ITSELF did not save you. IT WAS NECESSARY… (If I could put that in flashing bold letters I would). It was necessary because we could not save ourselves. See John 3:16 You were saved when YOU humbled yourself, repented, and believed God and His Gospel (His message). And no one can do that for you.Luke 13:3.5. (Unless YOU….YOU will) your choice, and the consequences are future. Nobody has been pre-determined for heaven or hell. You have response ability (responsibility). Jesus said that, not your pastor or favorite author. He even told the Pharisees the same thing. He warned them John 8:24 so they were not without hope. Yes, even the Pharisees. The only time Jesus was full of joy was when the 72 returned. Why? Because they understood that Jesus was indeed the long awaited Messiah and they were beginning to share the Good News of another kingdom that anyone could be a part of. Anyone - but sinners were entering ahead of those who thought they had their own exclusive theology. There is no true joy in that. And before you respond remember…Faith is NOT works.

Glad you found your way out of calvinism. I grew up in a heavy calvinistic church. I had no fruit, even thought I was told I was chosen and saved. I was prideful and arrogant, and completely unteachable. That is where I see so many stuck too. They have the tulip glasses on, and reformed glasses on, and look at scripture and everything else through those glasses. They are unteachable as long as they hold church fathers outside scripture, as the one's defining what scripture says. Once I started questioning things, because I was sick of not knowing if my salvation was secure, I broke down and left the church. After high school, I spent 4 years living in the flesh, and gave up all christian living. Until I had an ecounter with God's love, which drew me back to Him. I tried to go back to my calvinist church, and everything I heard clashed with my experience with God. I knew what they were teaching about God wasn't true, because it conflicted with my heart and Who He revealed Himself to be in my more dire time of need. I have not regretted leaving calvinism once. I'm closer in my relationship with God, I'm teachable. I enjoy being proved wrong, because I want to know the truth. It's just a blessing to see so many others come out of that terrible theological box. God bless you sis!

If the anti-Calvinist were right there would have been no Gospel for the last 1400 years and even not before that. Origin of men’s free will goes back to Pelagius about 400AD. And the heresy of the pope around 700 AD About 20 to 30 million people died by the hand of the Spanish Inquisition for not giving up their faith. The Queen of England at the time was Called Bloody Mary for her cruelty against the Calvinist, I rather say reformed because we don't follow a man. William Tyndale was burned at the stake for translating the Bible and being a Calvinist on 6 October 1536. Do you claim his faith he died for was a heresy???? The Catholic church became a Heretical church in about 700 - 800 around the same time Mohamed killed all the Christians in Asia Minor. After 700 to the reformation, there was barely any preaching of the Gospel. The Waldensians from about 1100 were persecuted by the Catholic church and joined the reformation under William Farel who became good friends with Jean Calvin. From the reformation to begin 1800, all preaching was Calvinist, The begin of decisional regeneration was with Charles Finney around 1800 followed by Billy Graham and him ending with Universal redemption ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hrf60-zHl9A.html check the video. All of Arminius writings were forbidden in Holland and never printed in Dutch. First published in English 1875. Calvin brought the Bible back in the church. In the Catholic church, the Bible was a Forbidden Book for the lay people even up to 1950. Calvin Luther, Zwingli, John Knox and so many more opposed the teaching of the pope; one of those was conducting all worship in Latin so people did not understand a word of it. All the reformation did in opposing the Catholic [church]. What Leighton tells you goes back to Pelagius and did barely exist after that till about 1800- 1900 with Decisional regeneration. Arminius his real name Jacob Hermanszoon [Arminius is a Latinized name] never said much during his life because he was a professor in Leiden and could have lost his position. Dirck Coornherd after Arminius dead brought out his teaching and Uitenbogard wrote the 5 articles against the Remonstrant. After that as an answer, the Synod of Dordrecht 1618 made the 5 articles against the remonstrants. Calvin or even Arminius had already past-away. Calvin 80 years earlier. NO_ONE who studied history can oppose the Reformed teaching. That is because Historical bashing of the reformation does not make sense. THIS IS HOW CALVIN PREACHED THE GOSPEL (Calvin's Wisdom p119-120) He calls all men to himself, without a single exception, and gives Christ to all, that we may be illumined by him. When we pray, we ought, according to the rule of charity, to include all. God invites all indiscriminately to salvation through the Gospel, BUT THE INGRATITUDE OF THE WORLD IS THE REASON why this grace, which is equally offered to all, is enjoyed by few. Other than the result of men’s refusal. Calvin as you can see and put the responsibility by men. What about 70 M Buddhist in Thailand. 95% of the population of Thailand are Buddists and 4.5% Islam. Do they have a freewill to accept the Gospel? Did God give them a free will The children born in Thailand will grow up being Buddhist. For any to ever get out of it, there is a powerful miracle needed of a work of the Holy Spirit. NOT A CHOICE.

@@bryanlovesjesus2204 Get your ideas straight. you don't have the Facts. This isn’t the first time I’ve heard an Arminian make this claim, without ever have studied themselves, and I don’t suppose it will be the last. Regardless, what should we make of your statement, Is it true? Did you read the Institutes of Calvin or the Confessions of Augustine. Augustine was baptized by Ambrose in the church of St John the Baptist at Milan 383 AD and did not return to his old live and beliefs. I did study it. And read the Institutes 3 times. Even Augustine got his teaching from the early church, and did regret and held not on to his early life. The Heresies of the Christian church started by Pope Leo 2 around 600AD. Catholic means: Universal Christian. The frustrating thing about this claim is the manner in which it is framed. If anyone has read through the apostolic fathers, for example, they’ll know that they simply weren’t concerned with expounding the doctrines of sovereign grace, or nearly any other doctrine for that matter! Did the Early Church Believe the Doctrines of Total depravity and predestination? There are a number of websites and RU-vid videos that attempt to dissuade investigative readers to believe that, except for Augustine, or at least until the “time of Augustine”, that the early church did not believe in the depravity of man, in unconditional election and/or a sovereign predestination, Clement Of Alexandria (A.D. 190): “The soul cannot rise nor fly, nor be lifted up above the things that are on high, without special grace.” Origen: “Our free will…or human nature is not sufficient to seek God in any manner.” UNCONDITIONAL ELECTION Clemens Romanus. A.D. 69: “Let us therefore approach Him in holiness of soul, lifting up pure and undefiled hands unto Him, with love towards our gentle and compassionate Father because He made us an elect portion unto Himself…Seeing then that we are the special elect portion of a Holy God, let us do all things that pertain unto holiness…There was given a declaration of blessedness upon them that have been elected by God through Jesus Christ our Lord…Jesus Christ is the hope of the elect…” (P) “Let us therefore consider, brethren, out of what matter we are made; who and what we were when we came into the world, as out of the grave and darkness itself; who, having made and formed us, brought us into his world having first prepared his good things for us, before we were born,” (Epist. ad Corinth. 1:p. 88.). (T) “All therefore are glorified and magnified, not by themselves or their own works of righteous actions, which they have wrought out, but by his will,” (Clement, Ep. 1, ad. Corinth. p. 72.). (T) “‘not by ourselves, nor by our wisdom, or understanding, or piety, or the works which we have done in holiness of heart,’ but by faith by which God Almighty hath justified all from the beginning, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen,” (Ibid). (I) “He that is chaste in the flesh, let him not be proud or insolent: knowing that it is another who furnishes him with the gift of contingence,” (Ep. ad Corinth. 1, p. 78.). Barnabas (A.D. 70): “We are elected to hope, committed by God unto faith, appointed to salvation.” Ignatius to the Ephesians A.D. 110 “Ignatius... to the church at Ephesus in Asia, blessed with greatness through the fullness of God the Father, predestined before the ages for lasting and unchangeable glory forever, united and elect through genuine suffering by the will of the Father and of Jesus Christ our God...”. To the predestined ones before all ages, that is, before the world began, united and elect in a true passion, by the eternal will of the God. Justin Martyr: “In all these discourses I have brought all my proofs out of your own holy and prophetic writings, hoping that some of you may be found of the elect number which through the grace that comes from the Lord of Sabaoth, is left or reserved [set apart] for everlasting salvation.” Ignatius speaks of two sorts of persons, signified by, “two pieces of money; the one belongs to God, and the other to the world; which have each their own characters upon them, and every one shall go to his own place,” Irenaeus (A.D. 198): “God hath completed the number which He before determined with Himself, all those who are written, or ordained unto eternal life…Being predestined indeed according to the love of the Father that we would belong to Him forever.” Clement Of Alexandria (A.D. 190): “Through faith the elect of God are saved. The generation of those who seek God is the elect nation, not [an earthly] place, but the congregation of the elect, which I call the Church…If every person had known the truth, they would all have leaped into the way, and there would have been no election…You are those who are chosen from among men and as those who are predestined from among men, and in His own time called, faithful, and elect, those who before the foundation of the world are known intimately by God unto faith; that is, are appointed by Him to faith, grow beyond babyhood.”

I was unknowingly baptized by a Calvinist pastor in college too -- a Conservative Baptist church. I'm 69 now and feel like I was baptized into a cult, and feel like maybe I should seek a baptism by a genuine Christian pastor. I used to give monthly to Grace to You also, and read John MacArthur's books. And then on Easter Sunday 2015 I took a wheelchair cab 40 miles to that church to celebrate Easter at the church at which I was baptized. I ended up sharing my testimony with an elder in the church, which whether these Calvinist Dispensationalists approve it or not, includes an amazing dream in which Jesus came to me in a dream in 1973, as I emerged from severe trauma from a mother who'd become demon possessed following her use of the Ouija board when I was 11. I was one emotionally shattered little girl and didn't understand the reason for her hatred and violence, and I was still in tears much of the time, when Jesus came to me. Anyways unknown to me this man whispered in the pastor's ear that I had spoken of a "Mystical Experience." The new pastor, Travis Allen, had organized the 2013 Strange Fire conference, and he invited me to dinner with his family. I declined, saying it wasn't feasible in my chair. He insisted, saying his kids could carry me in the house. Like an idiot I accepted his invitation, but as we left the parking lot the unthinkable happened. He turned around and said "Oh btw, I don't want you talking about a mystical experience." I had no intention of talking about it at his house, but I told him I wouldn't deny that Jesus came to me in that dream. So he turned the car around and kicked me out of his car. He even sent the offering I gave that day back to me. So then I asked for a statement of all my givings. I had given $7400 out of my disability pensions in the previous 2 years, though I never set foot in that church. The widow of the pastor who founded that church was sending me the bulletins, so I gave out of simple generosity. But I told Travis if my money wasn't good enough on Easter, it wasn't good enough at all, and I requested it back. And said I would then give it to a worthy, God-honoring church which hasn't removed Job 33, Joel 2 and Acts 2 from the Bible. Needless to say he refused, but I too left Calvinism. I went to one church that I didn't realize was Calvinist, but there was a pyramid on the door jam! THEN I found out it was a Reformed church, and that Calvinism and Freemasonry go hand in hand. And that John Calvin was a wicked, vile mass murderer who killed 58 ppl -- and according to the apostle John, isn't even in heaven, "for no murderer has eternal life." So there these Calvinists are, following the teachings of someone who isn't even in heaven. Smh.

@@Mtnmamma5251 I was referring to, if Paul is refuted. Then, your biblical clock must go back to a time when Yeshua went back to heaven. This would exclude Paul's writings and those that vouched for him. And, there would be a few more authors in the NT other than 3 of the gospels that would remain. Please compare 1 Cor 8(from Paul)* to Rev 2nd chapter. It sounds as though Paul allowed foods sacrificed to idols(not condemning or making it a law), but Yeshua seems to condemn it outright! And, if Paul is refuted, then circumcission is no longer an option, eating what you want is no longer is an option, the law is no longer nailed to the cross, etc. *If I'm not correct on that chapter number, it's the one that Paul talks foods sacrificed to idols.

This is my first time listening to you, sister. I'm an ex-Calvinist with 25 years experience teaching others in that context. I resonate with so much you said. In the discussion between Calvinists and non-Calvinists, what is paramount is to not argue these differences from Calvinists' definitions. "You're a Pelagian!" Nope. "You're a heretic for attacking God's sovereignty!" Nope. "You're an Arminian because you deny the five points." Nope. If we're going to talk about this, we're going to read the Scriptures WITHOUT importing any system's definitions or theology. We're simply going to look at the plain sense of the words and adjust our theology accordingly. This is how I talk with folks about this subject. If they can't or won't do it, the conversation stops there. Now, if you're a Calvinist reading this, don't bother contacting me about the veracity of Calvinism. I'm tired of the endless exchanges. I love your story! I was raised in church, Baptist or Baptist-compatible, lol. When I was young, these things were never on my radar. We went to very solid churches. When I was thirteen God moved our family, and it was very rough. We went to every church in the area, and even went far out of our way to try to find a community of like-minded believers, but it was hard, and we had very few friends. At this time, my mom went through a deep depression, and she constantly had the radio on to keep her mind engaged. She fell in love with John MacArthur’s teaching, and with R. C. Sproul’s teaching. A few years later, I was in a youth group, and one of the teachers made the comment one evening, “We don’t choose God, God chooses us.” I went home livid, ranting about how that couldn’t possibly be true, because that wasn’t what the Bible says. My poor mom decided to gently set me straight, just “playing devil’s advocate.” For awhile I was in a tailspin, trying to argue with God, asking Him how he could be condemning my unbelieving coworkers to hell through no fault of their own, but eventually I succumbed to Calvinism. For the next five to seven years, I lived in double mindedness. We finally found a church that we kind of felt like we had some connection with, and that is where I met and married my husband. That church was very Reformed, and held to a very high form of Calvinism. We struggled in that church. It felt like no one cared about me. I could walk into that church, teach my junior high Sunday school class, sit through the service, and never talk to anyone else before we walked out the door. Out of 50 families that went to that church, only a handful, maybe five to ten, came to either my bridal or first baby shower. But we plugged along. Then my mom introduced me to Dave Hunt through his “A Woman Rides the Beast,” and I then listened to his “What Love is This,” and I realized that I had been duped into believing a lie, but I didn’t realize yet how deep that lie went. Not long after this, one of the elders in the church got up and preached a sermon, and in it he said, “Satan is nothing but God’s puppet.” I tell you what, my Mom and Dad and my husband and I all sat up straight and looked at each other. We had never any of us considered such a blasphemous statement. A week later my parents had the pastor over to their house to discuss it, and he told them, flat out, “You need to stop reading your Bible and start reading these commentaries.” After that, my husband and I went to him and told him we were stepping down from our Sunday school class. I still remember sitting in his office that Sunday, saying to him over and over, “God is so much bigger than this.” We left peaceably, and we still have “relationships,” such as they are, with the people in that church, and I even attempted for a time to go to the young mothers’ Bible study, but we couldn’t continue to worship in that church after that. We now drive nearly an hour and a half one way to church every Sunday, but the fellowship is sweet and the doctrine is sound. It is so good to be free of that awful yoke of Calvinism.

When I heard it I knew too many scriptures that contradicted it. My husband however, coming from the life he had and dealing with the aftermath of war he thought God would never choose him. He struggled really bad with calvanism. We attended a church for three years that denied calvanism. Then preached it from the podium. I had already saw it but it really hurt my husband. We lost our church and it affected our family. My children were just abandoned by people who said they cared. I have watched calvanism steal love from people. They become cold and uncaring because of well that person is not chosen. My daughter is currently struggling with calvanism.

Based on quite a few dialogues/debates, my best guess is that many people so strongly oppose Calvinism because they hate the idea that they are not in control. They despise the idea that their faith was predestined. They loathe the concept that God choosing them had anything to do with them coming to Christ for salvation. Simply put, they want to think that they are fully in control of their own eternal destiny. They chose to receive Christ as Savior. And for many, they adamantly hold onto the idea that they can also choose to reject Christ as Savior after previously trusting in Him for salvation. What Calvinism haters do not understand, or refuse to accept, is that God's absolute sovereignty does not negate the fact that we are still absolutely responsible for our actions. Yes, God elects people to salvation (Romans 8:29-30). At the same time, we must believe in Christ to be saved (John 3:16). The two are not mutually exclusive. Both are true. Everyone whom God has chosen will believe, and everyone who believes is chosen by God. Admitting that you cannot perfectly understand the mind of God is the only way to come to a biblical balance on this issue (Romans 11:33-34). Calvinists do not have a perfect understanding of how things work, but there is no denying, biblically speaking, that God is absolutely sovereign in salvation.

"because they hate the idea that they are not in control" Are you serious? I used to accept Calvanism myself, but no longer. Does anyone actually comprehend the 5 Points of Calvinism? I read so many comments of people against the 5 Points and they appear, mostly, to not be able to spiritually grasp the reality and doctrinal soundness of the 5 Points. When you really grasp, in the Spirit, the reality of the fact that YOU WERE DEAD and CAN NOT RAISE YOURSELF and YHWH CHOSE IN CHRIST TO GIVE YOU LIFE, it is the most humbling reality you can experience. There is NO LIFE in a DEAD PERSON, and all of us are spiritually dead until the New Birth, and this Birth is NOT of the Will of Man, nor By The Flesh, but by His Spirit, and in accordance with HIS Pre-Determined Will. "You did NOT choose me, I chose you, and new you and named you from before the world was made."

@@AlanaL3 Self righteousness blinds; people convince themselves that they have something to do with their New Birth, when they do not. This is pride. Nothing inherent in a human being APART from His Holy Spirit would cause a fallen, wretched, hell-bent human being to desire Him - nothing. Again, until the New Birth, Father makes it very plain and elementary in His Word that You, Me, ALL OF US are dead people - there is no spiritual life in us at all, and nothing about us worthy or meriting His mercy. Do you even know what sin is? Why did Christ have to shed His life's blood? Why was the Arc of the Covenant underneath Skull Mountain where He was crucified? Pride cannot permit you to believe that we all deserve hell, that we have earned it, and that we are born predisposed to and the inheritors of a sin-nature, and are His enemies, with His wrath abiding on us as children of disobedience. Yet, He chose to save those the Father has given Him, and He will not lose one of them. The self-righteousness of people prevents them from seeing the obvious. John 17 is the real "Lord's Prayer". Now, as it pertains to evangelization, I do not know, nor does anyone else, who among us are His Called and Chosen, this is the great treasure hunt; it is my obligation in Love for Him, to help others see their impending destruction and guilt before the Holy Adonai, that they are deserving of His wrath for transgressing His Law, that then the cross, the blood, the righteousness, the propitiatory atoning sacrifice of Jesus the King above all kings, will become to them as it is in Truth, the most amazing display of Mercy and Love embodied in the One who is God in the Flesh.

We grew up Baptist and then my parents started getting in to MacArthur and Sproul. It made sense to me and I was a hardcore Calvinist until a few years ago. I was explaining Calvinism to a Christian neighbor who was not Calvinist and as I was hearing the ideas come out of my mouth something in me said “this just doesn’t sound right.” The biggest question for me over time was “how can I tell my children God loves them when I don’t know if they’re elect?” Maybe He doesn’t love them, so I shouldn’t lie to them. But I love my children. How is it possible that I love my children and God doesn’t? What a relief to know now that God DOES love my kids, and with a much greater love than I could ever have! Also, I relate to your post-“conversion” challenges in talking to people. Most reformed people aren’t interested in talking about it and non-reformed folks just don’t think about it so it’s not a big deal to them. Whether or not God loves your children (or mine) has nothing to do with their believing the Gospel and trusting Christ to be their personal Lord and savior from sin (human responsibility--Acts 16:31) . Sinners do not come to Christ in repentance and faith because they believe they are elect, but rather they do so because Christ has commanded people everywhere to repent of sin and believe the Gospel. They find out they are God's elect AFTER they have trusted Christ to be their personal Lord and Savior from sin and scripture is very clear that all to do that (believe in Christ for salvation) are His elect (John 10: 16, 26; 27-29; John 17:2, 6, 9; Acts 13: 48).

I listened to John Piper for a while, and I too came "out" of Calvinism although I never adopted that label for myself. After that, I went through my library of Christian books that I read since I got saved and I realized that most of them were written by Calvinists. The lens that I looked at the Bible through was framed for me. After that it was such an emotion of roller coasters. I think it revealed to me the character and nature of God. He really is that good! Please pray for my church as a Reformed pastor is ready to be voted in a few weeks and we are not a reformed church (SBC) It really is not a semantical issue. It is an issue at the heart and nature of God. The lens I now look at scripture through is the lovingkindness of God.

Thank you for this video. There isn't enough space in a comment box to talk about the journey my family took out of a calvinist church. It's been almost 2 years for us and I still struggle with sadness about the whole situation and how it all happened. But the Lord is so good and has blessed us in many ways which includes a new healthy church family.

I feel like I'm watching myself in your video. I actually attended MacArther's church and it's where I got saved. It really is an indoctrination and one you don't come out of easily. I went to his church in 1992 and was there for five years. Five years too long. When I grasped what was being taught at church about two years into my attendance I think that's when I had a kind of spiritual death. For me the Calvinism was so diabolical and my soul instinctively rejected it, however, because I was told that if you really follow God and the bible then you would believe all this doctrine I felt spiritually trapped. My mind heard nothing different and when trying to talk to people their faces glaze over and they just repeat what they are told. I did end up at a different church but they went crazy calvinist and for me thats when I had a bigger breakdown. In 2013 we left that church and I spent the first year crying a lot. I had no one to turn to because the majority of churches in my town are heavily influenced by MacArther and his college. Seriously it's like a cult over there. I spent the next six years in spiritual distress and really wandering in a desert of the mind and soul. Scripture had become so twisted I couldn't even read it without the old doctrines flying in. I spent much time in the progressive christianity world. At the end of six years, summer 2019, God began to heal my heart and establish my faith again. He walked me out of that very unbiblical word of progressive christianity and back into the truth of His word minus all the Calvinism. I did discover Leighton in 2014 and he was like a breath of fresh air. The hardest thing about Calvinism is it puts the brain on a loop and every time you try to exit the loop you get pulled back. Brainwashing is real and it's a massive battle getting your mind back. I am so glad your video popped up. I would love to chat more.

@@AlanaL3 Hi Alana, I appreciate you and your love for the Lord. You are blessed with the Joy of the Lord and a love for your family that’s contagious and honorable. What a beautiful person you are! In love, I want to encourage you to be careful going down the road you seem to be on. I didn’t want to use the email you provided for this young woman but wanted to encourage you in a different direction. There is a lot of “indoctrination” out there. And sometimes we over correct and take another wrong path. That’s what I want you to be aware of. Like I said and shared I’m not a Calvinist but I also don’t completely agree with Traditional teachings either. However, I’m careful about not calling them “indoctrinations”. I found if I just share what I believe and point out the differences without additional statements people are still receptive and I can’t be accused of being unloving towards other brothers and sisters. My difference is I don’t believe we possess the ability to “choose” Christ but we do have the ability to “choose” to reject him. The example of choice is not used for the Gospel. The call is to “Repent and Believe in the Work of Christ”. Try something real quick. Love God more right now. Go ahead and do it. Can you? You can’t. I can’t. Try this. Have more Faith right now. Are you trying? Can you do it? I would submit your seeing you can’t. So how does Love for the Lord and Faith in him come alive in us? It’s through “HEARING” the Word only. It’s the work of the Gospel alone. I was (without) Christ until someone shared him with me. I did nothing. I had no desire to know him or obey him because I didn’t even know him until someone “SPOKE” about him. I did nothing. As someone “Lifted Him Up” to me because he had been “Lifted Up” in them, he began to (come alive) to me and in me. I did nothing As I “Heard” more about him, he began to grow in me. I did nothing! The one sharing him with me was doing the work and the Truth began to do it’s (really his) work in me. (The Truth is Christ). Ok… at 12 the (Fear of the Lord) came alive in me. This fear “caused” me “compelled” my mouth to open and confess I was a sinner and in desperation I said the words, “Jesus come into my heart”. I don’t believe I was saved at this point because my life was not transformed. It however was the being of Wisdom. (Christ is the Wisdom and Power of God) BUT! The the Word began to his Work in my life. I rejected and suppressed him but I couldn’t deny him. The battle was on for my soul. My life progressively got worse and worse until I found myself at 24 in bondage to sin at such a level that there was no way out but murder and suicide. In the Mercy of God. A 16 year old girl who was a friend of my brother, herself caught up in sin and desire for me called me the night before I had made my plans to kill my self. Because my focus wasn’t on sex that night, it was on my plans, I could think clearly for some reason. I asked her what she did that day. It was a Sunday and she had been to church. I asked her what he preached on. (I’m tearing up right now reliving it) As she shared, God came alive in me in a way I had never experience before. At that moment I knew he was real, I knew he loved me and I knew what I was about to do was evil. I knew for real this time I was in trouble, I knew I was in bondage to sin and couldn’t get out. I knew I didn’t have a choice or any other Hope but him. In my desperation after the phone call ended I couldn’t help but call out to him for help! God help me! I can’t stop this! I need your help! I them moved from my bed to the floor never more humble in heart as I called out for his Mercy, his Forgiveness and his help to stop living the way I was living. I began to weep because for the first time the Value of Christ came to life in me. I knew his death was God’s only way of reaching me. I could see God so clearly that night! It’s like I was given eyes to see the fullness of God for the first time in my life. I could see his hatred for sin and his anger and wrath poured out upon His Son for me. I could see his righteous Justice I deserved taken for me. I could see his live, Grace, mercy and forgiveness in the Cross of Christ. Alana, I could see God! A New Spirit came alive in me! It was God alive in me! I knew him for the first time, I knew his love for me and a New Spirit of Love for Him was now alive in me. Because of Him and this New Thing in me. Because of This new appreciation and thankfulness I now had for him, through my lips burst forth, this statement… Lord I don’t want to know what others think about you. I want to know the Truth about you! I want to know you! I will do anything you want me to do, just let me know you. For the next 8 months I set in a room in another brothers house and read the New Testament all the way through, the Old Testament and the New Again. One thing that had changed in my reading is that I wasn’t reading to know what I was supposed to do. I just sat at the writers feet hearing, wanting to know Him, what he did, what he was doing today and had promised to do. I just heard Mathew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, Moses etc “Lift Him up” in my heart, mind, and soul. That was 30 years ago and 10 years have past since my wife went to be with him, And Love for him and Faith in him still comes alive in me more and more as I HEAR him “Lifted Up” in his word. It’s not by choice we are saved but by the Word of God doing his work in us. I believe we minimize his Word when we place the weights of choice on their shoulders. It’s not their responsibility, it’s my calling to “Lift Him Up” in their hearts until he does his work in them. Yes they may choose to reject him but if they don’t, I believe they will be saved by hearing the Word of God, yes the Gospel. God bless you!

@@truth7416 There is much that has gone wrong in the institutional church. Calvinism is a big one and there are many other issues as well that have compromised Christianity. I haven't been back to church since 2014. I am not against the gathering together. I do wonder though how sitting in a pew, week after week, facing a pastor constitutes growing in ones relationship with God. How is that the definition of a living body? People become all about their Sunday morning service and bible study and treat people terribly the rest of the time. I don't want to live a life where I need to get "filled up" spiritually on Sunday and midweek. I want to live everyday in the presence of Christ. I need Him every second. He is my breath. I am very much a lover of books and self education. I believe the bible is true and most certainly not outdated. We need to be living and active in our lives. If our Christian life is stale something is wrong. Institutions do not generate life and closeness to God. They become an entity unto themselves and end up owning the people. Somehow we need to find a way to gather and encourage one another while not getting ground up in the machine of church.

Hi Alana, I just found your video, and I just want to say that at the end of last year, I too, was led out of Calvinism by the Holy Spirit. I was drawn into it because of how academic it felt, and the sweet people in the church and the way they cared for one another. But, when we started actually studying John Calvin in Sunday school and the history of the reformed church - that put me off because I just wanted to learn about Jesus (I mean, we were in church, right?) - and then I started to actually read the Westminster Confession and felt that man was just trying too hard to connect these dots themselves - I couldn't agree with much of what was in it. My husband and son and I had been going to this church for a little over 2 years and had to leave which was heartbreaking. But, now we are happy in an E-Free church. So much of the scripture has convicted me against Calvinism, but this is a great one. "See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ" Colossians 2:8. Thank you for being brave and speaking out - it helps some of us to know we aren't alone in this interesting experience of being "in and out" of Calvinism.

I care very much about the Calvinists in my life. I'm a mother who's homeschooled my daughters, like you do your kids. I have taught them both sides of the argument so well that they can represent the reformed position better than most Calvinists. They have since helped their partners and friends out of Calvinism. If you haven't already, when it's age appropriate, teach your children how to detect fallacies. Teach them critical thinking, and how to communicate their ideas with love. Your video is invaluable, and your approach is honest and kind and humble. I don't doubt your kids will be used by God in this battle. It IS a big deal. If Jesus came to die so that everyone could know they have opportunity to come to him, Calvinism is in direct opposition to what he came to do. That's no small thing. Around 7 or 8 years ago, I almost walked away from Christianity when I learned about Calvinism. And, for any Calvinist reading this, I DO understand it. It is, as you say Alana, a philosophy, and not The Gospel. Thankfully, an open-minded Calvinist pastor understood my struggle and directed me to a book, The Other Side of Calvinism, by Vance. I devoured the seven or eight hundred page book for a few days and so began my glorious climb out of the mire. I read several more books both for and against Calvinism and discovered Leighton Flowers a year or so later. Then Kevin Thompson and the others you mentioned. For me, it was like being saved again! Then I started to see how the long history of Calvinism since The Reformation as infected the theology and teaching of ALL denominations, including the non-Calvinist, Baptist church I had been a part of my entire life. My point, PLEASE don't underestimate how important your interviews(I watched and praised God for all of them) have been for many people. I can't say whether or not your videos, including your interviews, about Calvinism has affected a million folks but, I guarantee you it has been invaluable for the ones who needed it. So, I hope and pray you continue to speak on this subject as we need as many voices out there as possible to help people who have been and will be confronted with Calvinism realize that, JESUS IS EVERYTHING WE THOUGHT HE WAS! The Gospel really is "good news to ALL people". Thank God!

I'm so glad that God predestined you in eternity past to walk away from calvinism. ;) I have so many thoughts. My home church growing up was free will and so was the Christian school that I went to. After I came back to my home church, I realized that my pastor had changed to calvinism. I fought against it, but you can only hear so many sermons before you think you must be wrong. I remember being angry with God over the injustice of calvinism, but reluctantly thinking it must be true even though I did not agree with TULIP. My husband and I ended up at a church that brought in a calvinist pastor. I had no idea that the "5 Solas" was the reformist battle cry, but he preached through it. People in the church did not talk to us bc we used words that were free will. Elders ignored us. Then a group split the church over calvinism in such a horrible heart breaking way. I lost friends when the hyper calvinists left. I asked God to show me the truth of what I should believe. I walked away from calvinism completely over 3 years ago. It has been such a relief. God is not an angry hateful God. Rather quickly in my search, He brought me across the parable of the good samaritan. I realized that if calvinism is true, Jesus is not the good samaritan. He would be walking by bleeding, dying, hurting people all the time without putting a hand out to help them. Obviously, there are many other verses, but that stuck with me. However, I'm still in process relearning verses that have been "calvinized"; the process is slow. I, also, have appreciated Leighton Flowers for his gracious way of walking through verses that previously have been so hard. Sorry this comment is so long. I have been hurt deeply by calvinism and calvinists. I have so many other thoughts on this. Thank you for being brave and telling your story and I'm very grateful for your opinions.

You are NOT making a bigger deal out of this; this is truly a big deal, because it affects how we share the gospel with people. I *shuddered* when you said “it was never about the people it was just about the doctrine”, because in a way it’s so true! When we’d talk theology it was always DOCTRINE DOCTRINE DOCTRINE yet I’ve noticed we’ve let *doctrines* create actual rifts in Christ’s body when we’re supposed to be united… it’s set up in a way that causes division. The condemnation and accusation you mentioned, I’ve seen it all. Calling people’s faith “man-centered” for questioning, accusing those people of thinking God is somehow “not sovereign” or something, and just thinking the more reformed you are, the better-off Christian you are. I think there’s some degree of truth to Calvinism because there’s always some truth to both sides of an argument, but I’m so pumped to watch all your vids; I think they’ll help me better understand what God tells us about salvation. Great video. I enjoyed both the content, and the spirit in which you presented. I looked into a Calvinism a number of years back, when I first heard about it. Given the names of the preachers who hold to that doctrine, I assumed it was probably something I should align myself with. However, when I delved into it, it became clear that it was not biblical. I am truly amazed at how many respected Christian leaders hold to this doctrine. As you touched on at the end of the video, the history of this theology is also very problematic (Augustine’s gnostic roots, and the absence of such a belief in the first few hundred years after Christ. If the apostles had believed it and taught it, it would have been prevalent). I personally find a number of prominent Calvinist teachers to be rather conceited. James White. R.C. Sproul (who said Arminians are “barely Christian”). John MacArthur’s comments about you (?) we’re also distasteful. Steve Lawson rubs me the wrong way too when discussing the issue. But I also know many wonderful Calvinist brothers and sisters 😊 Trying to discuss this doctrine with most Calvinists, reminds me of my conversations with Jehovah’s Witnesses. They have learnt their arguments, and there is a massive cognitive dissonance when contradictions in a text are shown to them. Thank you. I’m excited to watch Part 2 & 3!!

He warned and warned, DON'T do it bc you will end up in hell where the torment and suffering will not cease! It's forever. The average Calvinist does not really understand the HORROR of hell. When and if they learn that unconscionable lie that GOD is heartless, they gloss over it, bc hey, it's God's will to just leave most of humankind choking in their own blood. Of course I had heard of it, but had never actually sat under the indoctrination. 3 years ago the pastor of the church I have attended for 20 years retired and the new pastor (who never mentioned “reformed” to the search committee) has slowly transformed our church to 5 point Calvinism. My husband is an elder and I am very involved with serving and bible study, etc. so it is hard to think of leaving our church family (although many have already left). Such a struggle and so hard to have the pastor say we are “sub-biblical “ when we point out scriptural discrepancies. I am ready to find a church where I feel I’m hearing the truth preached, but my husband isn’t ready to leave yet. I’m encouraged to hear you both came to a place of peace.

Thank you so much for making and sharing this video!!! I’m a new-ish Christian who didn’t know the difference between Calvinism and other subsets of Christianity until this video. I was raised Presbyterian. I quit going to church by the time I was 13. In my early twenties I fell into New Age. In my late 20’s/early 30’s I became a Mormon for two years, then got out of it. In my late 30’s/early 40’s I was back into new age. From my mid 40’s until now, late 40’s, I am a spirit filled Christian. I’ve read the Bible probably 8-10 times in my life before coming to Christ this time around. For the past 3 years I’ve read the Bible everyday. I’ve never gotten out of the Bible that only some people are chosen by God. But I have not come to total peace about where we go after death. My charismatic friends are in complete joy to know that they are going to heaven. I am not sure how you can be happy about going to heaven when you know that most of your really good friends are not. So I’ve had some difficulty since coming back to Christ. I am definitely reverent to The Lord. I’ve turned from my wicked ways and turned my face toward him to follow him forevermore. I’m definitely not turning back to any wayward ways because of my “doubt-ish” and uncertain attitude about salvation. But I’m not 100% on salvation as is stated in the Bible. There are so many different theologies from different people in Christ who seem so sure about salvation and where we go in the afterlife. I can see how there are such far away differences between different Christian sects. Now you know that the Calvinist beliefs on the elect is not true. But, where do you believe we go after death? Do you believe more of theology that we remain dead (asleep) until judgment day? Or do you believe that as soon as we die we are judged and sent right away to either heaven or hell? And, do you believe that if we are asleep until judgement day to be judged, do you believe that God gives another chance to those who then understand what they did wrong and ask for forgiveness, or do you believe as many Christians do that God judged and immediately sends the blemished ones straight into the fiery lake forevermore? These questions to me are as important as the being Calvinist or not. But, I know you can only take one major topic like that at a time to talk about on a RU-vid video. Again, thank you so much for this needed topic of discussion!!!

I don’t know any of those answers for sure. I will say I lean towards, but could be wrong, that we sleep when we die, until we are raised at the end. I also believe there are no second chances and that those thrown into the like if fire are judged according to their deeds, then destroyed. I don’t know how the judgment looks, but I read they’re thrown into the lake of fire as well as they are judged according to their deeds. I’m glad you have been closely walking with Jesus. Continue to:)

I have been heavy agnostic for 15 years. Luckily through my journey of heavy reading and studying, with the guidance of Calvinist friends I have come to find God, just not in the same light as my Calvinist friends. Reading the book Determined to believe by John C Lennox was crucial, to understanding soteriology for me and was a great way for me to deep dive fully into what it means to be a Calvinist. My conversation with my life long friends have been very similar to Alana's, in that I am coming in to them so excited because I have just recently finally put a geniune Faith into Christ. It was such a long time coming, yet simultaneously I am trying to show them the blatant contradictions. It is so hard not to come on to strong. It certainly is an akin challenge to Alanas. God is great. May you all have fruitful journeys.

Don't ever hesitate to tell the truth about God! His love and His character are worth defending. And the world desperately needs to know the truth about God's grace. I was a 4 point Calvinist pastor but over the course of teaching the Bible for 30 years, I came to realize the error of these doctrines. I so appreciate your spirit. More than anything else, it's your heart for God that has kept you searching for the truth. But discovering the error is only the beginning. The depths of God's grace and the profound implications of how grace really works is the most exciting part of the journey! I pray that God continues to protect you from both pride and self-doubt as you process both the praise and the persecution that will come with taking such a strong stance for the truth. Alana, I can't tell you how important this video is - your journey is amazing! I grew up and came to Christ in the Baptist Church (today, we're non-denominational evangelicals). Upon marrying, 35 years ago, we were looking for a church home and began attending a Reformed Church - well, it was Presbyterian, but they didn't really talk about their Calvinist underpinnings. And when I first began to understand what they believed, it truly grieved my spirit, as I knew it not only contradicted MANY Scriptures, but also maligned God's Holy and loving character for ALL of mankind! Calvinism isn't very compatible with evangelism. I mean, unsaved people hear the Gospel and then later, IF they understand Reformed teachings, hear it said that God doesn't intend people even have a choice in front of them - as (supposedly) ALL of the unsaved in eternity were doomed before they were even born, with NO opportunity (or ability) to turn to Christ. And THAT is why most Reformed Churches don't typically broadcast these specifics in their sermons - cause they absolutely know many would leave. Many might well wonder, "Well, with such a God - what love is THAT???!!!" Five Point reality is would mean that People were chosen by God to live lives of untold desperation and immense suffering on earth and THEN eternal punishment and separation because a supposedly loving God wanted that for them???!!! That would be a God that would be a nightmare for most of humanity! And why all the warnings to repent? Why did Paul try to reason with People? Why even pursue evangelism - IF only God has already decided people's fate beforehand. Why preach that people should come to the Lord, without also noting - "But that IS only possible if you are one of God's Chosen Elect. I can see some rejecting Christ because this teaching leads them to conclude God probably didn't choose THEM. The reality is, what God DID decide before time, is that ALL who would, one day, FREELY respond and be willing to / wouldn't permanently resist His wooing and drawing, He would lead them to salvation (no, they can't do it for themselves - but they must have, at some point, a willing heart and mind, and an openness, to the Gospel), and all who would eventually receive and commit to Jesus are the ones He wanted in eternity with Himself. And the eternal rebels to another fate. But He doesn't FORCE anyone to love Him - as forced love is no love at all! Five Point Calvinism is built upon cherry-picked Scriptures viewed through the lens of faulty human logic and tradition - it's a cancer upon God's Church! Unfortunately, many, even in Reformed Churches, don't truly understand the doctrine. Thirty years ago, like yourself, Alana, I passionately wanted to get to the bottom of the issue - as Calvinist beliefs threatened my trust of God and His love and mercy (yes, He is also a JUST God). So, I discovered Norman Geisler's excellent response to Calvinism in his EXHAUSTIVE Scriptural-based book, "Chosen But Free," which examines in great detail Five Point beliefs, and exposing where they radically (and tragically) have deviated from God's Word - per their tradition. I can't tell you what a tremendous blessing that book has been. And James White wrote a supposed rebuttal, called "The Potter's Freedom." So, in Geisler's 2nd edition of "Chosen But Free," he detailed a HUGE list of errors, mistakes, and Scriptural contradictions in White's book - so, get Geisler's 2nd edition if you can find it. To me, Calvinist five-point beliefs are simply heartbreaking. I recently came across a video by John Piper titled "What Do I Do If I've Tried to Believe In Jesus but Can't?" - in which a letter writer can't come to belief in Christ, and has concluded that he's beyond saving, asking, "What can I do?" And Piper tragically responds that "perhaps God has withheld from you the kind of faith your looking for." I want to cry when I see this! It's astonishing that anyone could believe that God tells people ALL must repent, warns over and over rejection of Christ is a horrific sin, and is angry that they won't receive Him, with so many passages clearly showing He's upset because they COULD, but THEY refuse to. And yet, many mistakenly believe that God doesn't WANT most people to love Him - in fact, instead, desires and has orchestrated that they NEVER can, nor will be able to. So, God supposedly causes and INSURES people will reject Him, and yet, will horrifically punish them for what HE made certain for them. It's just sick logic born of a twisted tradition. Contrary to Reformed teachings, the Gospel is the "Good News" FOR ALL MANKIND! But thanks for exposing this unBiblical doctrine - and sorry for the far-too-lengthy post!

Alana, as working one's way to understandings related to Reformed teachings can seem overwhelming and complex - as people simply don't know where to start, as theology can be very intimidating - especially to one not well-versed in it. So, just to further note, Norman Geisler's "Chosen But Free" book (I referenced) makes the understandings of the issues and problems surrounding Five Point Calvinism / Reformed teachings straight forward and logical to grasp, as he walks you through them in a natural sequence, always contrasting the various Reformed contentions with wider, important nuances found across Scripture that contradict them. And as he does so, you quickly begin to grasp where Scripture has been selectively used to fit Reformed contentions' "logic box," while simultaneously showing how they contradict other key Scriptures - and especially, God's Holy Character, love and mercy. He also reveals the issues with Arminianism - very important as well. And thus one begins to realize that a human logic has been applied via a twisting of God's Word - typically / tragically, by otherwise wonderful and well-meaning Christians.

Alana, I am more than old enough to be your mom, but you have taught me so much! I fell in LOVE with Jesus when I was 17... His good character and amazing love for all people is what drew me to Him! When our pastor retired and new reformed pastor took his place, I was devastated by this 'new' doctrine... especially to find that it was EVERYWHERE! Author Austin Fisher said exactly what my heart feels about Calvinism... "...the silhouette of the crucified God of Golgotha is an image chiseled into my heart... when I don’t feel like I understand a damn thing-I look up there and I understand enough to say thank you. I understand enough to call it love. And I watch as it casts sparks of light into previously darkened corners. So when someone messes with this picture, adding a cryptic backdrop that threatens to stain the whole thing, I’m against the backdrop only because I’m for the picture I think the backdrop ruins. I’m not against the Calvinist picture of God so much as I am grieved by what that picture does to the picture I love..."

Isn't it ironic that when asked to describe their understanding of God many, if not most ,atheists do so in Calvinistic terms. Many have only seen the portrait of a god which Calvin paints and they rightly reject it. However, believing it to be accurate, they throw God out with the portrait.

I'm hearing a lot these days about people leaving Calvinism. What I don't understand is why so many Christians in our day became attracted to Calvinism in the first place. What were they thinking? When I was in high school, my English teacher (who was teaching about the Puritan era) taught us that very few people believed in Calvinism anymore, that mostly it was behind us. That was the 70's. Starting about the mid-90's, Calvinism exploded into the lives of Protestants as if it were a newly discovered theology. Many people were excited about it because it made them feel "chosen", though I'm not sure how they were thinking about it. Did they really want to see God send the vast majority of the human race into eternal torment, while they the "chosen few" got to live forever in this wonderful paradise? To me it was nothing but depressing. I wish I could understand what the thought process was.

You’re blessed. Yes, I rode the wave of the explosion and now the exodus…I think since I had very little time as a Christian and I was so young, it “made sense” to me and I accepted it. I didn’t consider all of the implications and check those out with scripture. Now I see….

It's because many people were fighting against the seeker movement and the health wealth gospel nonsense. Many people especially right-brained analytical people, namely many men find it very satisfying theologically and philosophically and thus adhere to Calvinism seeing it as the better rubric to understand the scripture. And in one sense that's correct. Except for it then becomes lazy because people just quote others who sound smarter than them so that they will sound smart and sophisticated. Instead of having a robust biblical theology for themselves they rely on other people. Dead or alive they rely on many calvinist pastors to do their theological heavy lifting. Calvinism is actually researched about four or five times in the last five hundred years. It grows and then diminishes and grows again. Like many other trends within society.

I found a similar by sproul the other day, God still rest his soul, but i can no longer listen to his preaching at the moment. Im feeling you on the attractiveness of sneaky pride of "hard truth". I'm married to a calvinist to the core (officer in church too) and calvinism is what brought us together, but now 13 years into marriage I'm thinking of coming out but he isn't. Your so right about identity issues. Plus my kids friends are all there and we are very loved. Learning to press into 1cor13 I can understand all the mysteries but if I don't have love I'm nothing. My first hard conversation was earlier this year was after Sunday school class about how we can't be certain babies who die outside of covenant families would go to heaven. Hearing my pastor and husband admit it's possible God might send a baby to hell because of original sin really bothered me. Our view of God just seems so tainted. I feel like there is a spirit of religion or something. Anyways, so much of what you're saying like compatiblism / determinism is also just irking me to the core. What's the alternative? I feel like i can't have any comfort in life if I don't hold on to our view of sovereignty . Oh gosh I have to see your vasectomy story ... in my case I was listening to voddie too much too though. But same mentality applies to evangelism. I used to be a missionary but ended up being hypercalvinist, and no longer can say Jesus loves you to someone in honesty without doubting it. I know this can't be Biblical. I ironically also have a strong Baptist guilt tripper that remains in me to where at times i cry and weep for the lost and feel like I'm not doing enough to steward what God has given me. (I have 4 kids &SAHM btw) I also have huge problems with total depravity. I don't know how I can be an arminianist either though. Is universal reconciliation the only other alternative after this? Or do I become catholic?? Do I go back to charismatic ?? Lord please guide. I can't wait for part 2

Thank you so so much for sharing. I was never a Calvinist but I did subscribe to a lot of things in reformed theology after I got ‘saved again’ from the false prosperity gospel which had hurt me big time. I watched a documentary(American gospel) that talked of the Gospel and man was I fired up to go share the news of Jesus’ love with the whole world. Little did I know that most of the people in that documentary were Calvinist(and of course that wasn’t exactly what they were fronting in the movie - I still love it to this day but…) I became an ardent follower of theirs, and looked to them as major resources for my theology. I eventually read and watched a few things about Calvinism but was not that convinced(I did call myself a 3point Calvinist at some point though🥲, but I heard them always talk about Romans 9(I’d never read it with a concentrated mind at the time so I really had no idea what was in it) and one time got to read it myself. I cried….no I sobbed. I was distraught because I now had an idea of Calvinism and that chapter in the Bible seemed to back their point of view. I couldn’t imagine how God wanted me to preach the Gospel that I was so fired up to share, and yet only a few were chosen. I honestly couldn’t wrap my mind around it so I took to RU-vid - the same avenue through which I got to learn about how the prosperity gospel is not the gospel and false, and I frantically typed non Calvinist and all that. Found Dr Leighton Flowers and got so much relief and a great resource for how to understand the scripture in a non Calvinist way, because I just didn’t know how to argue against their cleverly planned philosophical reasoning around their worldview. Been following him for a while and that’s where I saw your interview with him. I didn’t even finish that video (yet), I went straight for your RU-vid channel and I am so glad and grateful to God that you shared this. I relate to it in many many ways; the cage stage, the guilt for hasty emotional sharing(mine was more around the prosperity gospel stuff, and a little Calvinistic-reformed views)….. and the need for an outlet😆(I’m yet to find one because I feel empowered and a little bit mature enough to be balanced and not over emotional about it) but yeah! This is the longest comment I’ve ever made, but all to say thank you and Hallelujah to Jesus who loves us and saves all who call on Him. Okay one more thing….I have been doing a Bible study on Jeremiah and the Old Testament(on the divided kingdom)the past year and I can’t help but see God calling people to use their free wills in a way that pleases Him - placing before them the choice of life or death, and then what made me tear up😢 in Jeremiah was where God was making indictments against the rebellious people and God says they did things that “didn’t even come into His mind” to do them….(Jeremiah 19:5, 32:35) I read that, realizing there’s gotta be a problem understanding theodicy with this scripture and I was like there is noooo waayyyy I’ll ever believe in Calvinism. Okay the end.😂❤

In their membership classes, they are very upfront about what they teach and make it CLEAR that we do not have to believe everything about secondary issues/Calvinism to be members. They are very rooted in scripture and coming from that hyper Charismatic Movement, our family feels safe knowing we are actually being led and fed properly. Knowing that the pendulum can swing too hard the other way, I’m very cautious about accepting any doctrine that I haven’t read/studied for myself in scripture. "when you say 'I'm of Paul', or another of Apollos, or another of Cephas".... It's the context of a rhetorical question reminding them that none of these names died for them, but rather Christ was crucified. We are all in Christ by means of His work. ❤

@@Shark_fishing Amen! That’s a great scripture reference and I agree. Im convinced Calvin himself would be appalled at this label as well but it seems to be “how it was done” in those days. Naming a position someone holds after the most notable theologian who famously held or articulated it (Pelagius=Palagianism, Arminius=Arminianism, etc) it’s a straw man to say that any one who holds any of those views means they are a “follower” of that historical person on a personal level. I hold to the doctrines of grace as articulated in the 1689 confession (for example) or by historic reformed theology. As I see that position to be biblical and most well articulated in that position.

Its so important no matter what tradition or background we come from to examine the Scriptures for ourselves. My story is different than yours but also very much the same. I came from a Pentecostal church. (They were also Armenian.) After being saved I was so hungry for the Word. My pastor taught us we have to examine what we are taught against Scripture but when I stared having questions about the doctrine of speaking in tongues as "universal initial evidence of baptism in the Spirit" and proper use of the gift based on what I was reading in Scripture, it became clear I needed to read certain things into the text to come to that conclusion and was expected to do so which seemed so wrong to me. We left that church (which was so hard). Since then, I have started to listen to teachers from a variety of backgrounds and see how easy it can be to fall into error if we let man tell us what to believe rather than examining for ourselves. For a brief time, I thought I was a Calvinist because I identify so much with irresistible grace based on my own salvation experience but the Holy Spirit has shown me holes in that as well. I would encourage any believer to read the Bible everyday in context and always ask the Holy Spirit to teach, correct, rebuke, train in righteousness and equip us for good works because He is faithful to do so!

That said I can relate to many of your pushbacks against hard 5 point Calvinism. Much food for thought. In the end EVERY preacher/teacher has certain "lenses" and life-experiences by which they convey Scripture. It is so important that we study scripture ourselves and let God's Word do Its work via the Holy Spirit.

The serpent is the most subtil beast of the field. Satan buries dangerous lies that lead people to damnation inside a neat package of truth. The Reformed pastors she mentioned in the video are servants of Satan! 2 Corinthians 11:14-15 King James Version And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works --I havent watched the whole video but I will. Many people come out Calvinism. Fine. Did they finally get saved? So they believe the gospel? Sadly many leave one false cult to join another and never get saved. It's sad! But true. The following passage is one of the best I know to show an individual how to get saved Romans 10:9-10 King James Version 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation

Washer and MacArthur are liars. God has a special place in hell for men like that who don't repent. Why respect them? They have led likely countless people to hell. They cunningly speak all kinds of truth but seriously deceive people into false conversions through deception. They gain people's trust by speaking lots of truth but when moment is right they attack spiritually with a false God. Scripture says, "A little leaven, leaveneth the whole lump"

When you really understand Calvinism you see it is false - woven in is a pride and arrogance in teaching the unbiblical doctrines and deceptively making them sound higher and better than the simple humble gospel, thus many feel an unmerited respect and admiration for the leaders. They seem biblical and high minded, but they are, at the least, deceived by a false system that garners them praise and awe instead of the focus off of themselves and to faith\belief in Jesus for all things and only Jesus.

@@melissaschubert1653 When I think of those false celebrity pastors this passage comes to mind... Bible > Psalms > Chapter 12 > Verse 8 King James Bible The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted

@@melissaschubert1653 John Calvin is referred to as the "Protestant Pope" Apparently he and his followers persecuted and even killed those who opposed his false beliefs Calvinism us often referred to as "Augustinian Calvinism." Calvinism comes from Augustine of Hippo a 6 Century Catholic monk. Calvin openly admits he took his twisted philosophy from Aigustine.
