@@IAteABox I've only played the Birthright path and after I finished it I had no desire to go back, and, wouldn't you know it, Corrin being a horrible protagonist was one of the primary reasons. I couldn't stand to relive his horendous strategic errors and the painfully black and white morality of the story.

I disagree with the main point. yeah, corrin sucked, but if you count the clones, then fire emblem has 8 characters and mario, basically the hallmark francise of nintendo's, has 10. I get his point that it is all diffrent stories, but in the end, it is the third most rep. franchise and has middling sales to say the least. if we had other fan favorites like waluigi, geno, ect. and there were more characters for each francise, like 1 more, then I would be fine with fire emblem. If you are saying that they are echos, then you need to realize how long it takes to create animations. even so, 5 characters still is unbalanced when zelda has 5, despite it being, well, zelda

It wasn’t even that funny, it was dark. And kind of stupid to be honest. But one thing This is so stupid is because Corrin, is a Fire Emblem Character, and if Corrin’s the Enemy, and since Fire Emblem Fates is his debut, this means Fire Emblem’s The Enemy. Schaffrillas you’re trying to defend the Fire Emblem’s Reaction in Smash Bros not being on the shameless Bandwagon framing Fire Emblem.

In Smash though Bowser loses most of his actual personality. He's treated as a Wild Animal, hence why he doesn't have his original voice actor and his design is more realistic in comparison to the rest of the Mario characters

I hate that they gave him the color of puke. His render looks alright, but his in-game default colors look awful! He's supposed to have yellow scales, not puke colored ones! At least it's a step up from Melee, where he looks like literal feces. Like, actual turds.

They're both Byleth (which is originally the name of a demon from the Ars Goetia) but one pronounces it with the original hard t and the other with the englishy way of saying "th". Makes setting them apart easier.

Ah. Much better approach indeed. I hadn't realized this point until your comment. Revealing a slew of echo fighters at the same time is a much smarter approach if they do release more in the future. Make it like five -each from its own series - at the same time.

Hoes Mad is a tool that should have been used more sparingly. Someone just stating that they’re disappointed with the character? Don’t use Hoes Mad, they’re entitled to not be happy with it if they aren’t happy with it, so long as they respect those who are happy about it. Someone arguing up an absolute storm about how Masahiro Sakurai is Satan incarnate for approving a video game character that Nintendo put forward to him or something like that? _That’s_ when you pull out the Hoes Mad image. TL;DR: hoes mad should be funny but it can’t be now because people didn’t know where it was and wasn’t appropriate.

well, its been around since 1990 and has over 17 games on its belt, and even the "bad ones" are only bad in the story department, as gameplay wise every fire emblem game is good at best and decent at worst (its a nintendo game after all). the real problem is with the western audience, who think that the franchise doesnt have enough impact to justify their representation in smash, ignoring that BOTH Smash and Fire Emblem are japanese games, and in japan Fire Emblem is as important as Zelda, the only franchise that blows both of them out of the water in terms of popularity is Dragon Quest, but since its not a Nintendo game, shouldnt be compared with other franchises in terms of content in smash.

The best selling pre-Awakening game was the first one that got localized, and even then, the series failed to break 1 million until Awakening. You're ignorant if you think FE was ever a major franchise of any kind in Japan prior to it nearly dying and getting Awakened with Awakening.

@@espurrseyes42 You're implying that The Blazing Blade sold the best in Japan prior to Awakening, which would be false; it only had about 250,000 copies sold there. That honor belongs to Mystery of the Emblem, which sold _more than 700,000_ copies, which (while not Mario levels of cash bringer) is still a significantly high total of sales, especially considering that it's a Japan-only release. That game is exactly what truly placed Fire Emblem as a tactical RPG royalty in Japan, until Radiant Dawn almost killed it.

Currently nowhere near enough to call it "popular" considering what the NES Final Fantasy Trio and the 1st Dragon Quest put out. "Niche" is the term you're looking for. It had a small following at best, and that's still roughly the case nowadays seeing as 3M sales pales in comparison BotW Switch selling into the 20Ms.

@@espurrseyes42 Ah, but what you fail to take into account is that Fire Emblem's _legacy_ far outweighs its sales. Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, despite only modest sales and (according to series creator Shozou Kaga) a lower critical reception than you'd expect, became seen as _the_ game that launched the tactical RPG genre in Japan, along with Sega's Shining Force series. As such, the series has often been credited as an influence, direct or not, towards games that would come after it but localized before it, such as Tactics Ogre, Disgaea, and Final Fantasy Tactics. Indeed, the genre would have been much more different than it is today were it not for Fire Emblem's success, as many gameplay elements that would become a normality today, up to and including permadeath, were codified by the series. Additionally, Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light would also be credited as a pioneer in multimedia advertising through its use of a live-action television commercial in addition to magazine previews, which would later become commonplace with other series such as The Legend of Zelda. Thus, it is not the sales number that landed Fire Emblem a spot I video game history, but the scope of influence it truly has, one that's oft overlooked.

It's actually the only Fire Emblem soundtrack that I listen to outside of gameplay, the Conquest tracks especially because I love the European instruments used as somebody obsessed with Medieval Europe.

I don't know why they made his victory screens so bad, because his taunts are at least decent. He says things like "I've made my choice" or "Your fate is clear", and those work well enough. They could've done something similar with victory screens where he says (for example) "Your fate was decided from the beginning" or something like that. But no, we got "Good," "That went well," and the worst: "I win," because not only is it stupidly simple but he says it in the most annoying way possible.

that's not a problem unique to corrin. most of the fire emblem reps have almost no personality. marth is like corrin if their story and character arc were actually well-written, roy is just a retread of marth (he doesn't have any of the same hotheaded personality traits he has in smash), robin is a self-insert, so that pretty much automatically damages their character since they have to be as relatable as possible, and byleth's total lack of characterization is literally a plotpoint in three houses. hell, i'd argue corrin's lack of character is more faithful to their original game than roy. people only like roy because sakurai gave him a personality, something he did not have in FE6. at least in smash, corrin is just bland and not actively hateable like they are in fates.

I actually love Fire Emblem Fates. And I still love Corrin. While it’s true Fates that a bad story, it had excellent gameplay between three versions and some beautiful art direction. I love all the details that is used to make Hoshido and Nohr feel unique.

15:45 The thing here is that in the japanese version Male Byleth is named Beret and Female Byleth is named Bereth (written as Bereto and Beresu, respectively) so they kinda had to split the presentation in order to show them both properly, then it comes as weird in the localized version of the trailer

I’ve been thinking about this, but imagine if they used Azura instead of Corrin as the FE: Fates rep. Just imagine it. It would be the only fighter to use a spear (before Byleth), she basically represents every fates game, and there’s so many creative things you can do with her water power/dancer stuff.

I mostly hate him for how gullible he was in Fire Emblem Fates. I've only been able to stomach the Birthright path and he straight up takes in someone who tried to kill him and survived, for the most part, by the leniency of his enemies. I've had that on my chest the past two years and I'm finally glad I got an excuse to say it.

Honestly, I think that Corrin would get his ass handed to him if he fought a real Medieval army (unless Corrin's siblings Deus ex machina'd him out of trouble). Imagine this scenario: Your army is marching through this mystical but extremely deadly land, every native of this land has been turned into monsters that have been trying to kill you and your army and you have not met a single peaceful being in your march. Then you stumble upon a destroyed and decaying village where everyone that was once there is either a monster or a pile of ashes. You’re about to continue until you spot a little boy who is alone in this desolate land who asks you to take him with your group. He has no recollection as to what happened here and insists you take him with you. What do you do? A) Stay away from him as it is most likely a trap B) Question him further C) Take him to a safer location but under careful watch and security in case of the odd chance that he is friendly or can help you Or D) All of the above If you chose any of those you must not be Corrin. What the genius tactician Corrin decides to do, is to take him with your group and venture further into enemy territory with this kid literally riding on your back. Obviously to only Corrin’s surprise, it’s a trap that almost gets everyone killed like 3 chapters later (Luckily the only casualty is Lilith who just turns into a soul afterwards)

I don’t get this. We have quite literally never ONCE had a smash cycle “end with a bang” and people aaaalways hype themselves up thinking it will then get disappointed when it inevitably doesn’t. Why won’t people realize that the middle of the reveal cycles are where they peak? Brawl: ended with Olimar Smash 4 base: ended with Bowser Jr./Duck Hunt Smash 4 DLC: ended with Corrin (edit: and Bayonetta at the same time, but corn was still an awful reveal to end out on) Ultimate Base: ended with Incineroar/Ken Ultimate FP1: ended with Byleth Ultimate FP2: ???

@@firenze6478 Sakurai said that he feels sorry for misinterpreting Roy's character from Binding Blade. Since Nintendo is asking for more Fire Emblem, Intelligent Systems wants to make things easy for Sakurai by making Corrin and Byleth blank slate characters so that Sakurai can have compete creative freedom then designing them for Smash. Marth and Ike don't have this problem because they are very simple on the surface. Corrin and Byleth are not simple.

I agree with everything you’ve said here, except for the main issue in current FE’s representation. I think adding Corrin was fine, but I take serious issue with how they handled Awakening. As good of a hame as it was, it did *not* deserve three reps. Especially when it’s the only game to have more than one in this game. It should’ve just been Chrom. If they wanted to add Robin or Lucina then they might as well go back and add Lilina from Binding Blade, since she served about as much purpose as those two did in their story.

I’d moreso compare Robin Chrom and Lucina to Hector Eliwood and Lyn. Lilina is relevant for the first 8 chapters, 7 of which have her offscreen, and then she can die with no real consequence.

Putting Chrom in as the Awakening rep would be like putting Spring Man in as the ARMS rep - just because he's the main character doesn't mean it's a good idea. Robin offered a breath of fresh air from other FE characters, both aesthetically and mechanically. There's even a good contextual excuse to have him usurp Chrom's spot, since he's the POV character, and thus can be argued to be the "true" protagonist if you really wanted to. Lucina works as a fun "female Marth", as well being the only definitively female FE character in Smash. Chrom has nothing like that going for him, and would only be the best addition for hardcore fans of Awakening's story, which probably compromises a very small percentage of Smash's player base.

Lucina is more important than Lilina, easily. The comparison to Hector, Eliwood and Lyn is somewhat apt: *Eliwood and Robin:* Pivotal characters the plot revolve around. *Hector and Chrom:* Sort of important in how they interact with said plot over the course of the game. Robin and Chrom sort of switch the Eliwood and Hector roles at times. *Lyn and Lucina:* Slightly less apt. Lucina actually has some real importance to the plot, while Lyn's only story relevance is in the invasion of Caelin (which is clearly only in the game to have you get Lyn back to begin with, because it makes no sense in the plot), past that, you could remove Lyn and FE7 pretty much stays the same.

@Nobody comments are not funny you troglodyte I see the problem being more not the multiple playable characters added, since even the old sonic games were adding more characters to play as and they were fine, but the lack of polish or good gameplay. It probably would have been better to cut them if they couldn't make them play good but if they had made all of the characters unique and, what is most important, FUN it wouldn't have brought the series down. Though now the complaint of multiple characters being the problem isn't valid bc they've forced us to play as only sonic for so many games and the quality of those games are still questionable.

Most of the echoes are actually somewhat different such as Chrom having slightly different physics and an entirely different recovery. This goes for a lot of echoes.

Speaking of Shrek The Third, I will bring up SMG4 now. So the first arc is great, just like the first movie. The second arc is great, just like the second movie(Except Shrek 2 surpasses the first). The fourth arc is great, just like the fourth movie. But, the third arc is a piece of garbage that should burn in the deepest and darkest pits of hell, just like the third movie. So Shrek 1, 2, and 4 are great while 3 is awful, and SMG4s 1st, 2nd, 4th arc is great while the 3rd arc is awful. THAT WAS THEIR MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Intelligents Systems had an idea for Fate to have three stories to appeal to everyone, but they realized that they didn't have enough writers. So they hired an outside writer, Shin Kibayashi was that writer. Nintendo wanted Shin to write the outline for each pathway, what happened instead is that Shin wrote 500 pages for each pathway.Intelligent Systems knew this was too long so they cut the story into pieces without the writers permission and the fact the Nintendo demanded Fates come on the Fire Emblem Anniversary only made things worse. Which resulted in this hilariously mess of a story. The good news this that there is a manga based on Fates that is a little better. Its called Fire Emblem If: the Crown of Niberlung.

@@ImmaLittlePip Well Corrin can choose a side in Hosihido/Nohr but for simplicity sakes I'm going to say Revelations is the canon route since it makes sense. Corrin not choosing a side adds more to his character than Byleth actually choosing a side since it shows Corrin does not want to hurt anyone or for their families to go to war. Byleth choosing a side seems to be more cold to his friends/students. Yeah you can recruit some of the students but others like Dimitri Edelgard or Claude(If you deny to spare him in BE route) have to be potentially wasted by Byleth. It just makes Byleth look like an asshole and hypocrite despite saying they "care" about their students. If there was ever a Revelations path in 3h then I would take my words back and eat them. But Byleth for me is a boring character who is there just to "pick a side" and watch the game progress.

As long as the character is fun to play, I’m all for it. I’ve never heard of basically any of the DLCs for Ultimate, except Steve. But damn if I don’t love playing as Sephiroth and Pyra/Mythra. Even if I never played their games. Shoot my main is Lucina and the only reason I’m playing Awakening right now is because I enjoy playing her in smash so much (even if she is simple). And I’ve been binging Tekken tournaments after Kazuya was announced cause damn is he crazy. Plus the Tekken plot is hilarious 😂

“How hard is it to add an Octoling alt” I mean, you’re right, but at the same time, I feel like Octolings would be the perfect way to put Splatoon 2 stuff in Smash, because what we have now is exclusive to Splatoon 1, and that’s a real shame. There’s so many weapons, mechanics, locations, and music (oh GOD the music) that would be *so good* in Smash and it would be kind of a waste to make Octolings be a simple alt.

I love how most Byleth Defenders are simps for the Fem version when funnily enough Byleth isn’t even a feminine sounding name neither is Corrin. Shit at least Robin can actually be a unisex name. Wait, you really can't bring yourself to finish Conquest because of the story? LMAO, just press the Start button to skip all the cutscenes and you'll have one of the best Fire Emblem games ever! Yes, the story is shit, but the map design is genuinely some of the best in the series. Unlike the other 3DS games, Conquest actually encourages clever tactics and careful preparation instead of just abusing things like Nosferatu, Galeforce, grinding, Double Lion, Hunter's Volley, Mila's Turnwheel, and Ryoma. You can skip a bad story, but you can't skip a bad map unless you have the Warp staff, which doesn't exist in Fates.

I thought the same, conquest in my opinion is a very fun, challenging game, it was my first fire emblem game and i was left very sattisfied gameplay wise, yes the story is pretty bad but nothing stopped me from ignoring the story, shame he'd have to analyse it to make a video out of it though cause after some time i couldn't take it seriously no more and started making jokes at it's expense, which was hilarious but it wasn't intended for me to start to imagine the king's body guard, who's name i don't remember so i just called izma like from the emperor's new groove, crying angrily screaming after corrin foils another one of his dastardly plans to show the king Corrin isn't loyal at all and laughing at it instead of taking it seriously and excitedly cheering for the heroine

I don't know about this one, Byleth's in-lore explanation is just an excuse to pull a "Joker" in the game, a blank, almost silent protagonist who just talks when they need to be badass, and are also loved by everyone for no specific reason, while Corrin just has the last one of that characteristics and at least talks in their supports (which is the reason why people hate them please shut the fuck up Corrin)

I mean, there's also the fact that Jeralt is rather stoic himself, and Sitri was seemingly known to also have trouble expressing emotions, so it's a case of Byleth coming out as this ultra weirdo and they're left not knowing why and just going with the flow, while having to be brought back to live via pope shenanigans after being born, so they're this half zombie? Imo, Byleth has some interesting things about them that can be looked into despite them being mostly silent. So saying that they're blank wouldn't really be correct, I feel. Just quiet, unnaturally quiet. I mean, FEH somewhat expands upon that. I love Byleth, but they aren't perfect, at all, but some things about them kind of fly over people's heads. Granted, it'd be more of the fault of Byleth being mostly silent.

Praise Christ and His Apostles that I had the good sense to only watch a let's play of Conquest! My biggest gripe with his character was how stupid his decisions are, and it's the worst in Conquest (not seeing through Azura's "disquise", taking in Kaze, an ENEMY SOLDIER, etc.)

Alright, I'm gonna come in as probably the only defense Corrin is going to get. Fates is a poor Fire Emblem game, and a mediocre game in general. I enjoyed it on release. It built off my favorite game, Awakening's, design, and overall was relatively harmless. For the characters, well, it suffered from severe character bloat, but the few good characters it did have are among my favorites. All that said, I agree Corrin was added for marketing, and in retrospect doesn't deserve a place on the roster compared to Lyn, Hector, Celica, Elincia, Micaiah, Sigurd or Seliph; but, Corrin was put in the game. Now, while I've argued Corrin's design doesn't fit within Fates, on a greater scale Corrin's design is good. Fluid shapes, contrast with the cape vs. the armor, ect. Although, Female Corrin fits the look much better than Male Corrin. Also, their move set is incredibly unique, as a fighter should be, and is one of my favorite characters to use in Smash because of that. Finally, Intelligent Systems, and other companies, have been putting in the work for Corrin's character. If you haven't yet, play Fire Emblem Warriors. It pulls off the characters from Fates better than Fates did, and actually paints Corrin as a somewhat likable character. To a lesser extent, the writing for special events relating to Corrin in Fire Emblem Heroes has done much of the same work to recast Corrin's character to one more interesting and multifaceted. What I'm trying to say is Work is being done to make Corrin a good character, even if it's after the fact, and a proper mascot for Fates; because, even if it's far from the best, Fates is still an FE game, and has a place amongst it's betters.

The only real contender is probably FE12, which wasn't even brought over from Japan, maybe RD(funnily enough another game slammed for bad story). *Revelations:* An interesting but flawed game, full of shenanigans. Reminds me of FE5 in a way, but a bit shoddier. Fates is one of the best FEs out there easily. I hate how FE fans are so enamored with story over gameplay that they prop up actual bad games(as in games that are unfun and uninteresting to play) just because they have a "good story". FE4 is the pinnacle of this thinking. Gameplay-wise, it is a contender for worst in the series, but because it has the "best story"(it doesn't really thanks to the shitty delivery, FE5 is leagues better despite working off the same setting), it gets propped up as the best in the series- it isn't.

I made this comment a year ago and since there's been a lot of people coming to Corrine's defense and right on them. And personally story has never been the pinnacle for anything for FE. Some of them are good, incredibly good, but they share many of the same tropes and drawbacks. Fates is a serviceable story, with Conquest having a great campaign, and Corrine being a fine protagonist who was eventually converted into something more interesting after the fact. The biggest thing I will knock Fates for is the weird fetish stuff. Like, why is Midori a marriage option. That just, makes me uncomfortable.

As the one guy who really likes Fates and it’s one of his favorite FE games, yeah, Awakening (which is better) was really all we needed to represent the 3DS games. I wouldn’t put the blame entirely on Corrin, but he definitely made the situation a lot worse And Azura would’ve been cooler anyways so

I also personally am a fan of Fates, and because of this, I think that it's an overhated game. All he did when mentioning Fates is talk about how bad it is and how Corrin is basically a sinful scourge against not just Fire Emblem but humanity as a whole, which has all been echoed countless times by the many haters of this game. I mean, it's fine if you dislike the game, but I don't think it's as bad as people constantly say it is and if anything, his opinion of it only summarizes the general reception the game has received by so many

@@matthewkuscienko4616 also, fates is not really that bad of a game. i think most of the hate comes from the implications of the game rather than its actual content (namely, old fans were afraid FE would steer away from its roots and become a glorified dating sim). now that echoes and 3H put it back on track, people are more willing to see what it did right. the plot is still a mess of missed potential, and the characters are fun, but not that interesting with only a few exceptions, but it really shines in gameplay, especially in conquest. it took the gameplay of awakening and fine tuned it with better map design and a less overpowered, yet more reliable pair up system. we should also not forget what it did to armor knights, taking an infamously terrible class (most good armored units like oswin were good despite their class, not because of it) and giving it its own niche as a wall, both by nerfing HP and evasion and giving them the wary fighter skill, which mitigated their greatest weakness

I personally think Project M has the perfect mix in terms of playstyle variety and representation. Ike works as a tanky swordsman with bursts of speed, Marth works as the spacing sword guy, and Roy works as the go hard or go home up close swordy. Though if there was one more I think Lyn or Hector would be dope as some form of echoes or alts

My main problem has always been that the weapon triangle is so deep rooted into fire emblem, yet they keep choosing the uninteresting mcs with swords and not the infinitely more interesting side characters that have lances and axes and junk

I would've loved if Byleth played more like Pokemon Trainer in making you cycle through the 3 protagonists: one axe, one lance, one bow. That would've really changed the "anime sword person bad" feel imo

I grew up watching my younger brother get excited over the new fighters. I was really happy for him when Lucas, Ridley, Pirhanna Plant and Banjo were announced for smash. And I will absolutely be happy for him when his favourite character, Geno, is announced too. The internet seemed happy for him too. The thing was, I wasn't as in the know as he was with Nintendo games and anticipated smash characters, so while I was happy for him, I didn't quite get the excitement. That was until my brother got me a Nintendo Switch light for my birthday, and I got Fire Emblem Three Houses for Christmas soon afterwards. I instantly fell in love with the game; it's still one of my favourite games ever. So when Byleth was announced for smash, (although deep down I would have preferred Dmitri, Edelgard or Claude) I was ecstatic. I finally got that feeling that my brother felt every time a character he loved was announced; and this time, he was happy for me. I was so excited to finally have that feeling of sharing the triumph of a character I loved getting into smash. But then I saw the reactions of angry smash fans and those stupid fucking "hoes mad" memes and it hit me; I wouldn't be able to feel that triumph. I know that it's just a game, but it really hurt. In other words, great video, fuck Corrin.

um as someone who feels your pain about byleth (three houses made me obsessed with the franchise and is my favorite game ever), corrin is not bad gameplay wise. Its his game that's the problem. I treat smash corrin and fates corrin as 2 separate entity's. One is a fun character to play in smash, the other is from a game I despise for wasting my time. I find it despicable that there 80 motherfucking characters and people are complaining

Oh my gosh, I totally agree with you. That is a really nice story you have there; I really love Three Houses too, it was the first game I bought on the day it was released and one of the three things that made me enjoy 2019 a lot more than others. Although yeah, I would have also preferred Claude and the other two as well.

Intelligents Systems had an idea for Fate to have three stories to appeal to everyone, but they realized that they didn't have enough writers. So they hired an outside writer, Shin Kibayashi was that writer. Nintendo wanted Shin to write the outline for each pathway, what happened instead is that Shin wrote 500 pages for each pathway. Nintendo knew this was too long so they cut the story into pieces without the writers permission and the fact the Nintendo demanded Fates come on the Fire Emblem Anniversary only made things worse. Which resulted in this hilariously mess of a story. The good news this that there is a manga based on Fates that is a little better. Its called Fire Emblem If: the Crown of Niberlung.

Ok but what about the fact that Corrin is genuinely fun, “from a gameplay perspective”. You talk of gameplay but ignore that Corrin is a unique FE rep and even lots of top players have added her to their roster of favorite characters at some point because of her play style.

This isn't a good point. Characters are more than just move sets, we can still incorporate good movesets while pulling from characters more deserving of spots. Corrin is an okay character but he doesn't really warrant a spot even if he's fun to play which is what he was getting at in the video

They're unexpected and dont really have a character but they're a staple enemy to the series much like the Koopas who are already kinda represented by Bowser and goombas who would be much harder to make work. Waluigi is mostly a meme character who doesnt have a whole lot of potential for moves outside of the sports games hes in.

​@@autisonm you say that when fox is in the game where NONE of his moveset comes from him game, while a lot of inspiration for Waluigi can be drawn from those sports games as well as from other appearances. Heck, I don't need to prove it to you, his moveset in Smash Flash 2 is very inventive while still representing Waluigi at his core. Not to mention that Waluigi himself is quite iconic, having personality and charm (i mean, justlook at his two new renders, they're amazing). So yeah, I would say Waluigi is more than just a "meme" character. I do agree that Piranha Plant is a good edition: he represents a staple of the mario series but beyond that is just fun, both for the players but also I imagine for the devs in terms of making the wacky littlee guy a quirky, creative moveset. I think him not being some huge character actually helps considering he was mainly an early purchase bonus for the game, so it doesn't mean that people who bought the game earlier are set apart by some highly requested character, but instead just get a little extra fun fellow which if you don't get in time, you aren't missing out on much. (unless you really want him where you can just buy him)

And also I still don’t get why people want him as a dlc when he already has a presence in the game as an assist trophy that also captures the energy and representation of Waluigi. Plus it fits with him being roster fodder and not having a predominant presence in the Mario franchise outside of the party games

My only problem with pyra is that she dont have a gimmick that well represent xenoblade 2 (shulk, Megaman, hero and Terry has gimmicks that well represent each one games) But i fine with pyra. She looks... *melee flashbacks* cool

That combined with using the Blade Specials as the Specials (har har) without Rex in the way I just think is a more interesting way to play them.

Being a Fates fan is rough ;-; That said I can agree with most of this video. I do think Corrin does a good job of implementing a Manakete into a working Smash moveset since they use a weapon and can *partially* become a dragon unlike say Tiki who is either a little unarmed girl or a giant dragon with no in-between.

I agree. I think Corrin would be a decently accepted character if they hadn't been timed terribly. Because Corrin's actually in a similar position to another fighter- Incineroar. Both are generally disliked by their communities (Incineroar for his subjectively bad design, and being annoying in competitive play, and Corrin because of his extremely annoyingly stupid decisions in the story), and also debuted in games which many people think are inferior to previous titles in the series. But incineroar is widely accepted, while Corrin is widely hated. Why? Because Incineroar was not one of four DLC, and people don't associate him with taking the spot of a character they wanted. Same thing with Byleth. People see Corrin and Byleth, and many think "but it could have been so much BETTER if Crash/Geno/Sora/ another highly requested character had been added," because the DLC have a finite number to them. We had no idea how many baseline newcomers there would be, so I think Corrin being baseline Ultimate wouldn't be seen with nearly the same negativity. But yes, as a Corrin main I agree his moveset is very interesting. I do wish he was a stance changer though, it would be SO cool if you could switch between a human form moveset and a dragon form moveset.
