They also made a spanish version of this song, definitely one of the absolute best among their countless hits. It's part of my childhood memories and love how you almost immediately picked up on the "from sad to happy" vibe of the song, it's there lyrically and melodically, one of the most brilliant pop tunes EVER.
Loving your Abba discovery and seeing your enthusiasm and passion for them. You have so much amazing stuff to come! Still my favourite group after all these years x
Imagine that it's a band that was writting, producimg and recording their songs on their own.No external songwritters and b.vocalists.Benny and Bjorn were composing music by mainly using a piano and guitar.Such harder work then but big talents.Youngsters of today are really familiar to the outro of this song since they made it a tik tok trend more than a year ago.
I love watching Agnetha express her emotions through her music, such as this one. It's almost heartbreaking. Yeah, Luke, I feel it. Agnetha and Frida are beautifully brilliant and truly a gift to the world. Try "The Winner Takes it All." That one is a true Agnetha masterpiece--bittersweet and beautiful; Really tugs on the heartstrings. Love that you're still loving Abba Luke. Keep it coming Love.
This is the song of life, for each of us, at one time or another. Many of their songs are masterpieces that will live on forever. With the voices and the harmonies and the writing and the musicianship, It is no wonder that they sold nearly the most albums in history! They bring pure joy and that is hard to get these days.
"Chiquitita" proved to be one of ABBA's biggest hits. It was featured in a 1979 UNICEF charity event, the Music for UNICEF Concert, broadcast worldwide from the United Nations General Assembly. As a direct result of this event, ABBA donated half of all royalties from the song to UNICEF. "Chiquitita" hit No. 1 in Belgium, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, Mexico, South Africa and Rhodesia, and was a Top 5 hit in ABBA's native Sweden, the United Kingdom (peaking at No. 2 in both countries where Blondie's "Heart of Glass" was occupying the top spot),[3] Australia, West Germany and Norway, making it the most successful single from the Voulez-Vous album in terms of global charts and one of the most famous charity songs ever. To this day, 50% of the proceeds from the song go to UNICEF in recognition of the "International Year of the Child" in 1979. In 2014, all ABBA members agreed on donating 100% of the royalties from the song to UNICEF. As of 2021, the song's royalties have raised $4.8 million for the charity.
Such Important infos.Since you reffered to it being No1 in Mexico just to add it was in the top spot there for 32 weeks! And the Spanish version not only achieved phenomenal sales in Latin American Spanish speaking countries and territories but even today it's kind of a traditional anthem there.Twas also sung in the Covid lockdown echoeing from balconies.
Always nice to see an ABBA lover brother. Decades of age separate us but I enjoy this listening with you as if I discover them for the first time. Thank you for the joy! Thanks and God Bless!
A couple of years ago ABBA said they’d now donate 100% royalties of Chiquitita to unicef. They also did the same with their Christmas single from last year ‘Little Things’.
@@Lisa-M Nevermind Lisa, let's pretend it is lol. After all it always brings a smile to my face watching them lyp-syncin.especially those girls. The most beautiful ones any band could have.
@@Lisa-M btw everything that was recorded in front of a live audience was declared as 'live' at the time,no matter if it was lipsynced or pre-recorded,since it featured the artist in a physical presence and not on a video.
@@Lisa-M And it's very obvious, isn't it! But we all know they were great live anyway (I remember the really live performance of "The Winner Takes It All"), so who cares 😉
ABBA performed this on 9th January, 1979, at the UN General Assembly in NYC. The next day (10th January) it was aired on television here in America. 😍🤩 That same year (1979), ABBA toured North America (US & Canada).
Fernando is another one of their greatest songs...it actually was written for Frida...she sings it by herself on her Ensam Album...it is absolutely brilliantly sang by Frida as i stated...also both Annifrid and Agnetha sing it together as they do with this song...its so beautiful...one of my most favourite ABBA songs....thankyou for a great reaction to this song...you really have an ear for the perfection of music...CONGRADULATIONS!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This is definitely my #1 ABBA song. It’s just SOOO perfect from start to finish! Another one of my favourites (and a little less well-known) is “Move On”. It has some of my favourite backing vocals (Agnetha’s “la-la-la-la’s” in the chorus) of any Abba song...
Another fav!! The rise and flow in this song from both the instruments and voices is superb. Harmonies on point as always ❤ Try ‘The Winner Takes It All’ next : )
Thankyou for your nice treat on Abba. That's from the famous Abba in Switzerland BBC special recorded in front of a live audience also featuring guests Roxy Music and Kate Bush on which Benny and Bjorn presented her.My other personal favourite from this show is the much beloved performance of many Abba fans KISSES OF FIRE(dualed with LOVERS)It was stunning.
What is incredibly unique about this song, is how the tune is virtually the same im the chorus and verse. It's not obvious but listen and you'll hear it ❤️
Not the point of the video I know but I LOVE the pink outfits they are wearing! Some more good ABBA songs: One Man, One Woman, When All is Said and Done, Take a Chance on Me...pretty much everything. I like seeing people react to the videos!
My father loved this song very much, and it's very appropriate to lift the spirit, the copyrights were donated to Unicef. There is also a version in Spanish very well appreciated in Latin America.
Thank you for the excellent review. There are many RU-vid videos available listing the creators' top 50 ABBA songs. The lists are all very different. To find the current most popular songs I suggest you privately look at the RU-vid video of the top 50 Spotify ABBA songs as it statistically lists the songs most listened to by the current generation.
LOVE THIS SONG. You should try another dancey one from ABBA, do Summer Night City, there's some great shots of Stockholm and the gals are dancing in a club, it was also covered by Therion!
Gotta go with what a few mentioned here. Even if you don't do a react to it, treat yourself and watch the spanish version. It has this lyrical and emotional flow and rhythm that just comes pouring out. You can see it so clearly in their facial expressions and movements.
This is not live. In those days it was common to lip sync. If you really want to hear them live, try Chiquitita and Does your mother know/ Hole in your soul from their Wembley concert in 1979 and/or some of the songs they performed in the Dick Cavett show in 1981, like Summer night city and Me and I. Fantastic performances.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE ABBA as MUCH as I LOVE the BEATLES!!! Can you imagine how they were the butt of JOKES back then. If you admitted you were an ABBA fan people would look at you like you were CRAZY!! They didn't KNOW what they were MISSING! Luke have you watched both "MAMA MIA" movies yet "MAMA MIA" and combination prequel/sequel to Mama Mia called "MAMA MIA: HERE WE GO AGAIN" Both movies are based on ABBA songs. I watch them over and over again, have them both on DVD. YOU SHOULD WATCH THEM BOTH, you will LOVE them
Lot's of them pretented not to like Abba, but they did!It was the guilty pleasure. If not then who on earth was buying such phenomenal amounts of records that turned heads of their rivals and the critics?!Come on !As a rock specialist admitted in an Abba documentary, Abba's records were such a guilty pleasure as porn-mags hidden well by them in within other stuff not to be seen!.
Speaking of musicals: Björn & Benny has actually written a pretty epic musical with libretto written by the legendary Tim Rice, called Chess. Worth a theater ticket or an album listen for sure.
One day, when you're a little older and can handle it, you should react to "The Visitors", one of the last things they recorded, and their greatest single. I don't know if you're quite ready for it yet though. Do more.
I'm so glad to see you again with reaction to ABBA several things to say about "Chiquitita" (1979) Chiquitita" means 'little girl' (with affection) in spanish And the melody have a spanish tune, specialy by the acustic guitar But the center is the wonderful piano, like akmost all ABBA songs "Chiquitita" is a beautiful song, it has hopeful lyrics, a melody that starts very soft with the blonde Agnetha's solo, then grows and explodes in a powerful chorus; Agnetha & Frida's vocal harmonies are of excellence It allows us to check how excellent singers Agnetha & Frida are and what harmonies of excellence they achieve. It stands out especially when they stretch the monosyllables with great quality and beauty "Chiquitita" was premiered especially for the UNICEF Concert (January 9, 1979) and its royalties are eternal for UNICEF "Chiquitita" was ABBA's greatest success in Latin America, that prompted ABBA to record it in Spanish, and its success was so extraordinary that in the following year ABBA recorded a full album with their best songs entirely in Spanish ("Chiquitita" in Spanish is the biggest ABBA hit in My country Argentina) Chiquitita" is in the Top 3 of all ABBA worldwide biggest hits, with 'Dancing Queen" and "Fernando", and it's a fantastic Masterpiece These is a TV performance at Swizterland in February 1979, when ABBA goes for a TV Special in beneffit for UNICEF is the second performance of Chiquitita (first was to UNICEF in United Nations) and is the first performance of ABBA after Agnetha & Björn announced your split as a couple I hope to see you soon in another ABBA song my next suggestion is "Waterloo" (1974) but I prefer that the ABBA performance at Eurovision Song Contest in UK 1974 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Vp1_OKawHYw.html ABBA begin your worlwide fame when They conquers the classic Eurovision Song Contest at UK with their iconic song "Waterloo", after these their first worldwide hit GOD bless you and stay safe My best regards from Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷 South América
Ava is such an amazing band. They can do the no wrong. And you are an amazing reactor. I love watching your videos. I think you’re fucking gorgeous and keep on doing what you’re doing.
This video came from a tent at Leysin/Vaudois/Switzerland for a BBC in co-production with Swiss TV. This was not live clearly recognizable by the song fade-out and the commanded clapping. Many Voulez-Vous-songs were recorded there at the time and can be found on the internet: ABBA in two different dresses, but same scenery. Gunnar - great infos - said almost everything: inspired by El Condor Pasa and was unimageable 30 weeks no.1 in Mexico; the greatest hit of ABBA in Central- and South America, naturally the Spanish version - I hear always while driving to Southern Europa. After all the years I have a question to the Spanish speaken fan: Is it possible that the text appeals to both traditionally raised girls and pro-equality girls (because of "try one more .. " in the positive ending refrain)? Many here in Central Europe smiled at Chiquitita as a Schlager (the term is also used in Sweden) / means simple hit and underestimated the charisma of the lyrics to Spanish speaking girls and women; please excuse my school English.
Not live babe....they did a concert in Switzerland lip syncing the whole thing....but hey, it was the 70s.....for live you have to go 79 concert....here on RU-vid....
It's all very nice, but this is not a true live performance...the song is lip synced. They are very good live and if you want Chiquitita in real live form, please check out their live album/ DVD tour of 'ABBA Live at Wembley Arena 1979' ABBA really knew how to deliver a live show, it's incredible and so worth the watch! Please look it up and see for your self. They are so amazing
too poppy too produced too broadway prefer actual rock music they should not be in the rock and roll hall of fame i know oeople that quit membership because they were inducted besides they bore me to death so plastic .....
I think Abba had the last laugh on you bud. Over 400.000.000 sales worldwide. Abba Gold has been in the UK top 100 album charts non stop for over 20 years the most for any group including Queen and the Beatles. Their latest album released in 2021of new material called Voyage just nominated for 4 Grammies. Two movies based on their music - Mama Mia etc. I could go on and on but I think I've made my point. Enjoy your hard rock music but you must admit there must be a lot of folk out there who enjoy 'plastic' music. Cheers.
ABBA is perfection But it seems that they are way ahead and you are not a very smart one too understand this level of music. But you have the right too think as you do
