Nickolaus Ashford, one half duo of mega Motown songwriter's Ashford & Simpson succumbed to throat cancer on August 22, 2011. Nick Ashford is survived by his wife and music songwriting partner, Valerie Simpson. They were married for 38 years..."Solid As A Rock". Motown's dynamic songwriting duo "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" "I'm Every Woman" "Solid As A Rock" "Reach Out and Touch".

Thank you for this. Coverage of his death & accomplishments was not touched on by the media. Wasn't happy w/ that @ all. Very much appreciate what you've done here. He is definitely missed. R.I.P. Nick Ashford

Thank you and I appreciate your comment. There was some media coverage surrounding Nick's death but it was usually buried at the end of a newscast or briefly mentioned at the beginning. For the contributions they made to the world of music - these artists deserve to be recognized for their tremendous talents and contributions. Thanks again☺

Wonderful!! no one can forgot that song Solid ... i remember when i was young thinking his long wet look hair was longer than his wife! haha! i loved hearing him sing! Wow! i didn't even know he wrote hits for chaka and diana! wot a fab couple! his gone too soon! Really enjoyed this tribute - tks

The song is the instrumental version of "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" by Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell, by the original band the Funk Brothers. A band that was the staple for so many Motown Hit songs. 🙂
