How can you think Shogun is okay and say they are only just now getting into myths and games and what not when their two hiatus albums have all of that on it. In fact this album is basically a homage to those

Ayy i aint the only one in thinking Shadow of the Abattoir is one their best songs! The prog and the classic heavy metal bombast you would hear from Iron Maiden is on full display and I think its the best vocal performance by Matthew Kiichi Heafy period!

As much as I am a Trivium fan I do think it's absolutely one of their best albums and an improvement over the last album which I liked but not as great as many would say. Much respect to your thoughts on the album and I admire what the band was marking themselves in with a ton of directly complex, rhythmic and versatile sounds with this era.

I’ll be honest. This is my favorite album of 2021. I didn’t think I’d find a 2021 album I would enjoy more than Rob Zombies masterpiece but here we are. Trivium seriously outdid themselves. I expected it to be good but I didn’t expect it to be this good

Well, as it turns out, I'm kind of a shameless Trivium fanboy. I've listened to these guys for many years, and have enjoyed their material on a consistent basis (yes, even their "worst" material). Some of my favorites of theirs' are Ascendancy and Shogun (love the Japanese themes of that album, given Matt's heritage). And as it turns out, we have another banger on our hands! I honestly enjoy this album much better than the last, not to say What the Dead Men Say was bad. I just thought the singles were better than most of the deep cuts we got. The singles for this record, on the other hand, got me much more excited for the overall product that the last one. I honestly didn't know Ihsahn did composition for the intro track, still a masterclass composer in extreme music. Emperor are quite possibly my favorite black metal band, so there. Epic as shit, though maybe a touch predictable in spots, and a genuine tune treasure trove throughout. The boys do it again! Favorite Tracks: In the Court of the Dragon, Like a Sword Over Damocles, Feast of Fire, A Crisis of Revelation, Fall Into Your Hands, The Phalanx Least Favorite Track: No Way Back Just Through 4/5

Trivium has been my favourite metal band for the last few years. They will remain my top listened to metal band in my phone and Spotify playlist. To say that they have not had a huge influence on me, especially the frontman Matt Heafy, would be a blasphemy. However surprising it may sound though, I actually agree with you on many points. Every Trivium record has songs that make me sprain my neck from headbanging and some songs from the exact said album just sound flat out unmoving and uninteresting that are just plain and forgettable. My ideal Trivium playlist just cherry-picks the best of each album and it keeps revolving. Shogun is the only album where I can listen to every song and appreciate it just as much. All in all, Trivium is praiseworthy for their commitment to excellence in complex songwriting. A lot of these newer generic 'core' bands don't even possess this trait. Love Trivium and here I loved your sheer, honest critique. 🤘

I really didn't think there was anyone out there that didn't like Shogun, but this album is easily the best thing they have put out since Shogun. WTDMS hinted at kind of returning to their roots, but that album lacked the execution that they achieved on this album. The 3 longest cuts on this album are easily the 3 best songs on the album with The Phalanx being my favorite and a perfect album closer. Also, side note if I'm doing a top 5 favorite Trivium album list: 1. Shogun 2. Ascendency 3. In the Court of the Dragon 4. The Crusade 5. Ember to Inferno

I loved The Sin And The Sentence and also felt that What The Dead Men Say didn't really hit the mark (I like the title track Catastrophist and Bending the Arc to Fear, not a lot else) but this new album is superb!

I saw Trivium in 2014 in Auburn, Washington as part of the Mayhem Festival. They were the first band on the main stage that evening, following by Asking Alexandria, Korn and Avenged Sevenfold, who headlined.

This is likely their best since In waves, which is saying a lot when I enjoy all their albums (to varying degrees, mind you). Cool album but it loses points with the couple average songs. In the words of Melon, a strong 7 to light 8.

I think trivium went far down hill after shogun, I just couldn’t get into anything they released after until I heard this album. This is the trivium I grew up with and loved and hope this is a style they go with going forward. I think they should continue with this and improve on it. I do prefer older songs of trivium but I do believe the solos, rifts, and Vocals are the best trivium has ever been.

@themetalmeltdownofficial
@themetalmeltdownofficial 2 года назад
It depends on the album - no one thing, element, sound automatically makes something great. BUT I guess a great album for me is something that is brutally honest, well-produced, and musically ambitious and diverse. Big riffs alone won't cut it, not for me at least. There are a few albums this year I've given a 5/5: "Imperative Imperceptible Impulse" by Ad Nauseam and "...And Again Into The Light" by Panopticon. Other albums I've give a 5/5 in the past are "Underneath" by Code Orange and "Alphaville" by Imperial Triumphant.

Very nice review on the album, I definitely agree with score. I honestly enjoyed WTDMS a lot when it came out, but its slowly gotten less and less satisfying as time goes on. ITCOTD is definitely a step up from that, but its nothing really outstanding in the current metal scene. Shadow of The Abattoir is by far the best on the album. I feel like they're trying to put too many ideas into singular songs, which results in this incohesive sludge of sound thats impressive in technicality, but musically it's just a mess. Either way, I enjoyed the video and subscribed. Good shit! 🤘

A 5/5 to me is TRULY a perfect score, and as such is only given out to TRULY perfect music: records that are highly engaging from start to finish, emotionally poignant and striking, and often extremely ambitious sonically and/or conceptually. Big riffs alone will NOT suffice, not for me at least. A few examples of albums I've previously given a 5/5 are "CALIGULA" from Lingua Ignota, "Underneath" from Code Orange, "Alphaville" from Imperial Triumphant, "Imperative Imperceptible Impulse" from Ad Nauseam, and "...And Again Into The Light" from Panopticon.

The only complaints from the album are these. No Way Back Just Through has a very bland chorus and the outro to The Phalanx is way too drawn out. My favorite track is Fall Into Your Hands. Sure it also has a bland chorus lyrically but the harmonies, the change in tempo, the solos, and that beautiful outro make up for it.
