Growing up in Canada, I used to sing in a Choir with my elder siblings and we always sang, "From a Distance", a song I loved singing with deep meaning. My father was always in the audience listening to his children sing this song, for every concert. When I hear this song, I think of my father. My father passed away suddenly and unexpectantly, in February of 2018. I was with him that day and in those moments. Although I am in my 30s, I am his youngest child and his youngest daughter. When I hear this song or any song from Bette Midler, I always think of my parents and my father especially. My father was the only man thus far, I loved more than anyone. To my Dad, thank you for loving me and teaching me how powerful a fathers love is for his children. Bette Midler-thank you for this song. It means so much to millions. From Canada-Thank you.

Having hard time trying to figure this one out…would I rather be able to have the voice to sing this to someone special, or have it sung to me by someone special. Think about it… What a beautiful song and what a wonderful message.
Every time I hear her sing this song, I recall a 1995 episode of the soap "Days Of Our Lives" when Billie (as played by actress Lisa Rinna) is making her exit from the soap. Flashback of her boyfriend (Bo Brady) are numerous....and at the end of the song (and the show's episode (Billie plane makes a take-off as Bo stares up at the sky. Goosebump city!!
My mother is in a nursing home and has suffered a stroke and we are literally just waiting for the call. I love this song but had forgotten it's power and meaning when planning songs for the inevitable funeral. Is this appropriate for a mum? Or is it more a song for a partner who has lost their other half?
