In the run up to the release of Christopher Nolan's "Tenet" I take a look back at his other mindbending classic "Inception" 10 years since it's release. This video is not just another explainer, instead I look at Nolan's creative process and the influences of James Bond movies not only in this movie but across other aspects of his work. Check it out and let me know what you think and SUBSCRIBE.

From a character point of view there is more in common with Shutter Island. DiCaprio helped rewrite the script and had a major influence on the movie.

I can see the similarities, I didn’t realise he contributed to the script. 👍

@@MovieBirthdays he contributed to it allright. He always does when he takes part in a film. Nolon and other directors and writers always talk about it.

Nice parallels with the Bond franchise , the inception points were clear but I never thought about Lucius Fox as Q. Almost obvious now!

Thanks Daniel, Nolan masked the references well but they once you see one you start seeing others. In some ways Bane is like an articulate Jaws.

@@MovieBirthdays That's another good one, I suppose the ultimate pay off is that he is (spoilers) the henchman in all this.

This was very eye opening to a film that seem puzzling to most. I saw “Tenet” the day it came out in XD which is little larger than IMAX and I thought it was incredible. I waited so many months to it to be released after being held back due to the pandemic, but I thought the film was groundbreaking and the conclusion, which was extremely epic, tied everything together perfectly and made sense of everything for me. I know Tenet won’t be having a birthday for awhile, but I would love to know your thoughts on the film.

I’m still having to digest Tenet, it was just huge and overwhelming the first time I saw it. There’s so much to take in and my initial reaction was too knee jerk, there’s a lot of mastery in that film and I love how ambitious it is. Not all of it works, but there’s lots to unpack - all in good time.

@@MovieBirthdays I saw it twice and Kenneth Branagh’s performance was a pure powerhouse performance. I loved him in Hamlet and have always thought he’s one of the best actors of this generation, maybe the best. He’s like a lion in Tenet. Slow and calm when needed but instantly can morph into an extremely fierce and intimidating character who commands power and fear. I also throughly Robert Pattinson has grown leaps and bounds and his film with Willam Dafoe and the film in space ( can’t remember the name at the moment ) all helped him grow as an actor and I think he will be a great Batman. The second time I saw Tenet I knew what was coming and I was able to take a much deeper look and in a way, may be Mann’s best film. The stylish appearance of the characters in omnipresent but toned down from some other films where it plays it’s part as a more of necessity than just glamorizing high society and fashion. At first I thought it would be a lot, maybe too much for most audiences it digest, but after my second screening I was able to really understand it snd watching breakdowns on RU-vid, almost preparing myself to gain a better understanding, really helped me cut through having to dissect everything myself and being aware of what a lot do the scenes meant gave me a huge appreciation of the film which I am almost certain will become a huge hit as time goes on and grow a major following. It’s a challenging film but I think it’s just so brilliant. It’s theme is very intellectual and futuristic and mind bending. My girlfriend seemed to understand it instantly and on the car ride home eloquently answered any questions I had even though I’m much more a “ film buff “ and lover or cinema than her. It’s fascinating that another persons perspective and eye can see a lot of the minutia and overall theme in ways I couldn’t, even through I walked away thinking I got it all. But, as you know, any great film needs many viewings to fully understand.
