This is the way I went. I had a failed septic system and to replace/build a new one would be over $10,000. Not on my watch! We just built a small gray water system and then had the Incinerator toilet installed. Best decision.

We have one in our summer cabin which is on a rocky island. It works great. We got it from a friend who's daughter complained that she didn't like the smell of the smoke. (It was like new and she sold it to us for $200,) We vented it through the roof and never smell the smoke/exhaust. We usually pee in a bucket so we don't use electricity just to boil the liquid.

Great concept/idea and very tempting but will wait until someone comes out with a unit that is a bit more efficient/easier on the consumables. Would love to find a more efficient unit that can run on solar and not draw down/tax the batteries quite this much. Anyone by chance know how many flushes/burn cycles you'd get from a propane unit(?)

Cain't wait to see an Incinolet run on solar.
@ZeoCyberG
@ZeoCyberG 5 лет назад
It's doable but you'd need a system that can handle the 0.8 to 2.0 kWh this will use up over a 1-2 hour period each and every time it runs the incineration cycle. Add compensating for cloudy days, other appliances like a fridge, and that can end up being a pretty sizable and costly solar setup... But there are gas powered versions of this that you can run on propane and simple 12v set up...
@trekkersdaddy08
@trekkersdaddy08 5 лет назад
ZeoCyberG our has run just fine on our solar along with everything else in the house at the same time. So far our system is the only one that can run it. I’d love to see a gas one get approved for the US but haven’t seen it yet
@ZeoCyberG
@ZeoCyberG 5 лет назад
@Andrew Bennett - Hasn't stopped people from importing them... Though, you have to be careful as some of them seem very crooked and charge up to over $5K, along with providing terrible technical support... For the solar, there should actually be quite a few capable of running them but the problem is affordability. So what did your system cost?
@trekkersdaddy08
@trekkersdaddy08 5 лет назад
ZeoCyberG the system we use is expensive. The added power to the system that just to accommodate the toilet is $4,000. The whole system for the entire house and toilet is about $26,000. It is so far the only system that will run this toilet without damage to it or the system. We have been working very closely with the techs of both companies on this patented design. If you have power available it’s much better. Our goal is to make a completely self sustaining home including atmospheric water generator and gray water filtration

Municipal waste management is incredibly expensive, subsidize solutions like these and the impending water crises might be pushed out a bit further. A gallon of clean water per flush is just irresponsible but the solutions our there are either over-priced or hampered by poor design. I use a Separette in my home and its moisture management system is simply inadequate. Future iterations am sure will include a dehydration chamber.
@soulsister5678

I'm surprised these are NOT already required for every use everywhere. In many communities, such as Los Angeles, urine & feces are recycled back into community water supplies, after undergoing a 'chemical' breakdown before returning community water supplies. (Which people are extorted to pay for else they are cut off.)(This is an entirely different story for another comment, however).

Here's my concern. I go and use it, then press the button, and according to what you say it takes about One hour of running time of electricity. 15 minutes later someone else uses it, and press the button again, which you say it extends the running time. Assuming a family of 4 that might use this One time each within an hour, that toilet would be constantly running most of the day. If you left your hair dryer run all day.......... that's a lot of electricity used. Would I be right to say the electric bill will surely go up?

Real Gagne it still only run 45 minutes from the last use. The 220V ones are a bit more efficient. They say they are coming out with a new one that will only burn exactly what’s needed for what’s put in it. That will save another 40% of power
@geraldhenrickson7472

That is a certain fringe case which may never happen...ever. And IF it did...the toilet runs about an hour after the last button press. hats it...in any case, your electric bill will go up, for me, about 20 cents every time I press start. I did not have 40K for a drain field. i had a composting toiler for trhe decades. This is a better way to go IF you have access to lots of electricity.

Yeah, the main reasons to consider a Incinerating toilets over a composting toilet are... 1) Speed - 1 to 2 hours vs 6-9 months to get the end product... 2) Ash takes up much less space than compost and is easier to get rid of... 3) Can be used at any ambient temperature vs composting that stops working when it gets very cold... But the problem is it has negatives to consider as well... Like you mentioned, every time it's run it'll use between .8 and 2.0 kWh of energy and is also turning the waste not only into ash but carbon dioxide with some oxides of nitrogen and sulfur that in turn is vented into the atmosphere... Add multiple people using it at different times throughout the day and that can add up unless everyone can synchronize their use to reduce the number of cycles needed and refrain from activating the cycle after every single use. Though, the vent in this one should employ a platinum type catalyst, similar to that used in automobile emission systems, to control smoke and odor but some emission will still get through and the catalysts adds one more thing that will eventually need replacing and is adding cost to the system... This leads to the point that it is also a system that still has to be well maintained but the heating element won't last forever, along with other components that will eventually need servicing... We are talking up to many years but it's not a system that will work indefinitely like composting will... It also won't work during a black out or when there's insufficient power... Though, you could get the gas powered version and run it off propane but that ends up increasing the carbon footprint and can cost more in some areas, along with adding the need to maintain a supply and safety precautions when dealing with propane in an enclosed environment... Then there's the consumables, irregardless of whether you use wax paper or buy their liners that's an additional ongoing cost, on top of the initial high cost of purchasing the unit in the first place... Not to mention none of these eliminate the need for toilet paper... Of course composting has its negatives too but arguably has more positives unless you really needed something on the go that will work in any climate. Everything has its trade offs and both pros and cons... No solution is going to be perfect for all uses in all situations... So it's just as important to know a products weaknesses as well as its strengths...
