Congrats. This is probably the best video at explaining these concepts that I've watched so far (and I've watched a LOT of them). Plus, bikes. Who doesn't love a bike?
Awesome! Switched to Resolve from Adobe just over 2 years ago but Editing is the weak part of my skill set. (I took acting classes, not film classes!) You always have great tips! 👍
I generally agree with you about 4-6 second grabs to hold a viewer's attention. Many news grabs on the telly are 2-3 seconds. However, I saw an interview with David Lean, the director of Lawrence of Arabia, and he said if you reall wanted to shock a viewr, get them bored first then suddenly hit them with the killing or whatever. But he was talking about Lawrence of Arabia, a technique he he used several times in that movie (btw - I think this is up there as one of the best movies ever made).
Yep - there's movie editing, and then there's RU-vid editing... They're almost completely different demographics, more like different mindsets. LoA IS a great movie! Thanks for watching!
I will have to watch this video several times, it moves very quickly especially the short cut navigation stuff, which is great for folks familiar with DaVinci Resolve, but I'm just beginning to learn DaVinci.. Your techniques and skills are working though, John. I felt like I just watched a 15 min video in under 5 min 😅👍
Sorry, Wayne! I really tried to slow the pacing while still packing in a ton of useful info... guess it wasn't paced right :( Don't forget to ask questions, I'm happy to keep making tutorials :D
@CreatorReality1 no no no... you're not the problem, my brain is starting to act it's age 🤪 .. so for these tips, which I did find very intriguing, I will need to rewatch as I'm learning the software. I think most DaVinci Resolve users won't have my level of brain fog. Bottom line, I really liked this video. 😁👍👍
@@SpyderWayne OK, cool - I just want these tutorials to help people out, so if they're not working, I'll get worried, LOL. Glad you really liked it - but seriously, don't be afraid to reach out with questions! :D
Yes. I'm paying attention. boop Though I do have a 3d printer running to my left. And an aquarium to the left of that with a bunch of new fish. Oh look..............
Would have been nice to see and hear the 'J' cuts just to ram home the essence of the point. As they were a little fast for me as someone already mentioned. Next is a video on how to drop in another background to hide the cluttered man cave, only kidding! 🤣😵💫😵😂
You're 100% right! I cut this one trying to keep it from going on too long, and it's a balancing act. There were a bunch of J and L cuts elsewhere in the video, so I thought it would work... I guess I was wrong! You're right about the man cave, too... there's only so much space to store stuff in my small house, lol... and this is way better than it used to be on my other channel :) Thanks for watching!
@@CreatorReality1 PS Your house is small, try living and working doing design on a barge, arr I is a river Pirate and never come a knocking when the boat is a rockin.
@@DAG_M Thanks! And no, not really... I just have 3 or 4 thousand hours of editing over the last 4+ years of creating videos for RU-vid. I had a few key things I knew I wanted to do from the outset, so I downloaded 4 editors and tried to use them to do those things... and I found Resolve was the easiest for me - it just all made sense to me. So, I picked Resolve and started cranking out videos.
@@CreatorReality1 Thank you for your reply :D so pratice, practice and practice. I was comparing myself to you like it all was so simple but now i see there is no point in doing that. Maybe one day if i had more time i will dig more into editing. Thanks for explanation :)
