I mainly just follow 🏀 and ⚽ so it is interesting to me what it must be like in the two sports bc in basketball there are players known for defense but everyone plays both sides of the floor every play. I can only imagine if you spend a whole career basically just waiting for Henry or Pele or Messi or Mbappe or someone like that who has been blessed by God to come down the pitch and make you look foolish at least one out of every 5 times.
"...you guys stopped me more than I passed you, all I need is one..." That really explains why I enjoyed watching Henry play, his tenacity and of course the skill and fitness to pull it off. You can tell he really enjoys playing! Great attitude and lesson for life...thanks Thierry
He was the one who made me watch the EPL and become Arsenal's fan. I didn't use to watch the EPL until somebody mentioned Henry to me, then I started watching and never stopped since then.
Brilliant metrics of football-- and a sign of how determined you have to be, waiting to pounce on that rare opportunity... they don't show all the times he got stopped LOL. What an amazing sport.
What about this is a masterclass, this is such low level analysis🤣, talking about what players do on the ball is so funking self explanatory, if you can analyse players off the ball then that's a masterclass
@@twentysins1988 i mean yeah he was masterclass (if your talking football), I never said he wasn’t 😂😂. What does that have anything to do with me saying his punditry is absolute dogshit
What a great analysis of Mbappe. Listening to Henry talk, it's easy to understand why he was so deadly. His physical abilities were secondary to his mind & thought process. Thank you Henry for all your insights! 🙏
And his mind & thought process would have not been put to good use without his ability to question his skils every week so as to better himself. He has a tremendous knowledge of the game, not only its technical aspects, but of its History too. He would watch dozens of games every months and analyze most of them. He worked a lot, an awful lot. His analysis are always deep, accurate, on point and give great hindsights on how top players think and act.
Henry is the best TV analyst right now hands down. He has such a depth of understanding of the forward position and even better is able to articulate it so well. I think he could one day make a great coach. Very good teacher of the sport. He takes you into the thought process of players
@@1992zorro kinda the opposite. From what I understand he has issues with young players because he's too "old school" in his coaching mindset and basically acts like you were in the army.
@@yabannamba7678 Yeah, because in the old days' academy players used to work cleaning the changing rooms or 1st team players' boots, etc. It instilled some humility and created a bond (as long as the 1st team player wasn't a bully with it). But that doesn't fly with the kind of money and social media presence most players have these days even at a young age.
Crazy the admiration he has for someone just 1 year older than him, and beat numerous times (World Cup final in 98, and World Cup in 2006 in 1/4). Henry is arguably the greatest Premier League player in history, and definitely among the best strikers in the game. It's nothing but sheer humbleness to praise a contemporary rival and direct competitor and say "I learnt how to become a better player thanks to this guy".
@@MrSuperOurs Look at R9 stats and you'll see why: Club - Games - Goals Cruzeiro - 34 - 34 PSV - 46 - 42 Barcelona - 37 - 34 Inter Milan - 68 - 49 Real Madrid - 127 - 83
@@Paulco67 R9 is the best player ever if not for the injuries and health issues. Prime wise it's R9 - Messi - Maradona I think. R9 was still better then 99% of players after suffering 2 of the same career ending injuries, a freaking heart attack and having hypothyroidism. After all of this he scored 8 goals at a the 2002 world cup and 2 in the final winning the ballon dor AGAIn after 23 months of total lmao. If this man didn't have injuries and health issues he would've won the ballon dor like 10 times in a row probably, we were robbed of his actual prime. And all of this in where football wasn't actually soft with most of the best defenders of all time playing in his era.
exact comment I came looking for. I thought analysis was about Mbappe, but Henry to the camera man, pls keep this record for me for analysis when Carragher is in the studio.
One of Mmappe's quaiity is this deadly accuracy.. even if he shoots and the goalie blocks it it's almost always on target, never wide or above... amazing
Oh my goodness this is extremely accurate. "No memory" is KM. All these years and I have never seen him single out a player to humiliate out of spite in any match.
i used to think Mbappe was overhype when he was in Monaco, so i wanted to checked and watched one of Monaco's game, and you don't need to be a scout expert to see just how good he is, not just fast, he's not normal, i agree to Henry to say that he's a freak, he's just build different, never seen someone like that.
@@tafa8369 LOL, different and better is two different words, no one said what level he is, just like Henry never said he was better than Messi or Ronaldo, but Mbappe is different, it means unique, you clearly are not smart enough to understand the difference.
I thought he was a bit overrated too until we played Monaco in the UCL Round of 16 in 2017 and an 18 year old Mbappe decided to annihilate us in Pep's first year... now granted our defence was quite old and we had a bad GK but still... he showed up at the big stage in them 2 legs... he was unreal. Just in general actually that Monaco team... we talking Mbappe, Falcao, Fabinho, Bernardo, Benjamin Mendy (who was unreal for Monaco), Lemar and then some other quality players like Bakayoko, Glik, Sidibe and Subasic in goal... some team that.
What Henry said in the first part about defenders is what makes Van Dijk the best. He rarely makes the first move even 1 on 1. He waits till the strikers don't know what to do.
Probably because he never had to face the likes of Henry, Ronaldo, Shevchenko, Drogba, Eto...etc... BUT i saw him against Portugal and CR7 made him look very very very plain and lost and broken... he is a good defender better than most in his time.... but they dont make them like they used to...
“At the beginning of the game i will give you 5 runs for no reason just to let you know that i’m faster than you” wow well said Henry as a guy who plays as striker this is true i do this all the time
Henry and Mbappe so so similar man, Mbappe is already there younger but Henry is a motivation and role model for Mbappe too! And R9 is just legendary !!
R9 was the most lethal striker I have ever seen. I have watched so much of him and it never clicked that he played for Barca and Madrid and Ac and Inter Milan and never got booed by either sets of fans!!
Henry described in an interview how much his father, who was his coach in little league, influenced him by being ruthless about effort and quality of play. His dad gave Thierry a hard time driving back from a game they had won 6-0, telling they had no excuse, they should have scored 11 or 15 goals. Thierry grew up with a hyper motivation from his dad, and he worked for his skills and mind set .... and lately he has understood that Mbappe Is made of the same stuff. These guys train and get better all along their career.
Viry Châtillon, Sucy-en-Brie 14h coup d'envoi, on gagne 6 je mets les 6, de Viry Chatillon a Orsay ou j'habitais, mon père a sortirai tout mes fautes au match Légendaire
Gotta give props to Henry's mentality even as a child, I've seen so many kids when I played through juniors with parents like this and they just couldn't handle the constant pressure and criticism. Takes a special kind of mentality, especially at such a young age, to not only push through but thrive off that kinda coaching. A mentality I'm very envious of and wish I had more of as a child myself.
Mind you TH has admitted that throughout his career, he was suffering from a permanent depression as no goal was ever enough, from the training he received. He was permanently in the imposters syndrome, even as he thrived both in UK teams and French official team. @@samwyeth8547
Henry… what a legend. Ya just don’t realize what you are watching till they’re gone. I miss his playing career. Aahhhh the memories. I’m so glad there is RU-vid where I can relive these moments
Mbappe has solidified himself as the next king to be crowned after his heroic 2022 World Cup. He’s a stallion and only 23! God pray he stays healthy. I can’t wait to see him dazzle us. I’m all in on Mbappe.
This video just proves, that defenders also need to be praised for having to stop attacks like this all the time, and its a pity that the limelight is mostly on the strikers and sometimes mid-fielders, and great goalkeepers even, but defenders is the team's immune system.
R9 was the most dominant player when he stepped on the scene. When he was in his prime, there was no comparison to anyone else. Injuries did its thing and he didn't have the longevity, but in my humble opinion the best football player I've ever seen play.
@@thehollowedtree9586 yeah, he was almost as good as henry. crazy to think that out of these 5 strikers, zlatan probably had the lowest peak, but the best longevity.
5:44 THIS this is what works in any sport! im a team handball player playing as playmaker, i would just make threats first 10 minutes, just so i could use it to make assists later in game.. LOVE this aspect of Thierry's thinking and how he teaches everyone now. and he goes on for minutes about this
Only one of a few players I watched for many years who I admired for the ability to place the ball wherever he wanted to score a goal. Thierry Henry, one of the best to play the game.
What a world cup final...perhaps the best ever in the history of the world cup..big up to Argentina....and France, football at its best...Messi number {1} and Mbappé the golden boot boy, what a display of determination...absolutely great football...
Definitely the best game I have seen I years. Sad it has to go to penalties. I think. They should play a 30 minute game on another day or first goal wins.
First goal wins was a thing in 98' WC and 00' Euro but was abandonned. Too bad because it's was the smartest thing to force teams to play offenively and not sit back in defense in waiting for penaltys@@wilcoxdaniel9825
Legend..Thierry Henry..Just look at that analysis.. Greatest player ever the EPL would ever produce.. Henry was the one that convinced me to be an arsenal fan.. Just one goal was enough to convince me..My best player ever of all time.
nice to see these legends come full circle with an analysis of their past games.. wonder who the future generation of presenters are gonna be.. haaland and van dijk will be interesting
R9 is still The Total Package ! Henry's main weapon was he saw goal potential way before anybody else on the pitch could and he utilized all his speed, techniques and mind to achieve that.
exactly on Henry point, I remember how it felt when R9 had the ball in a game, my blood was rushing because I felt he's going to dribble a lot of players and the way he did it with a lot of power and the beauty was just one of my top favorites.
Henry one of the only pundits that actually makes sense you leave with more information you didn't know or deeper analysis. Espn are the worse 😂 they literally talk and don't say anything
I really miss watching my fav player all time. I was fortunate to see him very early in his career when he still played for AS Monaco in the UEFA Cup vs Mönchengladbach on October 15th 1996 (thanks to the internet for finding this date). Watching this guy made me develop interest for football. Back then, there was no relevant internet, so cable TV was the only opportunity to see him play rarely. He firstly showed up on the big stage during world cup 1998 and became a famous player, but not a star yet. After a short stint at Juve, where he was used as a winger and couldn't score many goals (3 in 16 games), it was Arsenal London and coach Arsene Wenger who really helped him become the great player that might became a role model for young CR7 or Mbappe later on. Coming from Hamburg, Germany the best opportunity to see him in real life was an UEFA Cup game in Bremen on March 23rd 2000. So my dad took us there and I witnessed him play and scoring a goal, but also receiving his only red card in European competitive football. It was an amazing experience. The following years he improved like each year and scored more goals anybody had expected in his early years, where he hadn't been very efficient. The only thing, he wasn't able to achieve has been being the top player of a team that wins the biggest trophy. In 1998 he was too young and Zidane was the main guy for France winning the world cup. In 2000 he performed ok on that French team who won the EURO 2000. In 2002 and 2004 he was in his prime, but France couldn't win a title. In 2006 France made the world cup final again, but Zidane was their best player. As Arsenal's best player he couldn't lift them to the UEFA Cup in 2000 losing to Galata and not to the Champion's league title, losing to Barca in 2006. Then he joined Barca to win the CL as their maybe 4th or 5th best player in 2009 at age 32. So Zidane, Ronaldinho, Messi and even Hagi took the spotlight on the biggest stage from him. But regardless, it was very very special to see him play. Thank you, Titi!
Beautiful breakdown and tremendously insightful comments! Great visual explanation, too! There should be a show dedicated to Thierry breaking down individual goalscorers.
Mbappe's first goal and the way he goes down the line with pace is really similar to how Henry would sometimes play. Mbappe must have studied Henry's moves or something.
if guys like henry, zidane, zlatan, mourinho, ronaldinho & co. say that R9 is THE best player they ever saw.. then you can feel what an absolute monster he was. His prime on barca and inter were not normal at all. he could do everything he wanted to. Then he had the bad injurys with his knee and changed as a player alot but STILL (2002ish up to real madrid time) was the best player says it all really. He sadly was hindered alot by his injury. and yes messi and cr7 got 13+ years of top performance but were also lucky af with injurys. R9 is the biggest "what if... he didnt had the injurys" in football. There was another brazilian of similar power.. we all know his name: adriano. but sadly the dead of his father took all his happiness away and he declined fast in success.
You know what I love about cbs sports, they let this whole segment without interruption! Henry explain this so well for someone that it’s retired didn’t even said one single bad thing about mbappe he just explain how great he is at his craft
Spot on Jamie. Fear factor. You can see it on Kylian's first goal against Poland. They are so scared of his speed and his curler, he popped it to the near post. Lethal!!
MBAPPE is the New #GOAT and best player in the world at the moment, where Messi's reign is now gradually fading because of his age, MBAPPE's star will only keep rising and rising in the years to come, MBAPPE already was a World Champion with France at the young age of 19!!! MBAPPE is the future of football and the only rightful heir to the throne of football King Pelé.
That was a great insight when he said he used to give them 5 quick runs early in a game just to let them know they were toast for the rest of the game.
Kylian is no more on Thiery level. He surpassed that. He’ll win the UCL one day. Even if he doesn’t, R9 doesn’t too, and is still one of the top 10 ever to grace the game. Kylian will end up in the top 10 too
I was lucky enough to meet Thierry in Philadelphia while he was walking in to the hotel before his game in 2013. He's all class and a really cool dude. 😎
Pace and lethal finishing. Quick on the ball and his most devastating move is his acceleration. Playing a quick one two around the box is 99% guaranteed a goal.
He’s direct and knows what he’s doing he knows his next move I watch him and I used the same tactic he used I like to dribble and attack defenders but I’m smart about it these guys you play with dribble dribble dribble hoping they can make something out of nothing he’s my favorite player to watch currently I used to watch ronaldinho all my life and I can’t learn from any other player to used into my game until mbappe came along young kids who are attacks should watch mbappe we can learn from him
I loved when he said he would give 5 runs for no reason just to let you know he’s faster than you. I was never fast when I played, so I used to just run people over off the ball a few times and by mid game people played back off of me and it gave me space. Just gotta use whatever you’ve got. I didn’t have speed, so I used strength lol 😂
This segment is PLATINUM . You can only get treasure like this when the 4 of them have good chemistry together. Then PLATINUM insights like these are released.
When Thierry Henry defers to you as better and you're only 24 that's a legit scary thought to put together knowing how much of a beast Henry was in his prime 😅
