This is somehow the most subdued and graphic of Tarantino’s films. It’s like a bottle episode, but also a beautiful slow build and master storytelling. I hope you enjoyed my The Hateful Eight movie reaction & commentary

If you're going to watch "Once Upon A Time...", PLEASE make sure you are familiar with Sharon Tate and the Manson family. The film has tons of references that most reactors miss, but some knowledge in this area is absolutely essential.

In the days before digital projected movies, there was film. Theaters showed movies in either 35 millimeter or 70 millimeter. The majority of theaters were 35mm, 70mm was the IMAX of it's day. Tarantino made this movie available in 70mm and released it to a select handful of theaters, around the world that showed it in 70mm. In many cases, he had the special 70mm projectors installed just for this. Movies nowadays are all shown digitally. I drove three hours to see this movie in 70mm. It was beautiful. Such rich texture. The snow scenes outdoors looked much more real. The images had more grit and realism. It was glorious.

2:57 Funfact. After The release of Django unchained, Tarantino made a Series of comicbooks about Djangos lide after The movie. One of The comicbooks were called “Django in White hell” and he made that comicbook into a movie with the same title. But he removed Django from the script because he wanted the movie to have no moral center. So instead of Django he wrote a munch more morally questionable former slave bounty hunter character. And that movie became The hatefull eight.
@maximillianosaben
@maximillianosaben 2 месяца назад
P.S. This movie almost didn't get made. Someone close to Tarantino leaked the script online, and so he said he wasn't going to make it. But he held a one-time live stage reading of it, which he directed as they read along, featuring most of the same cast that made it into the film (I think 6 of the 8). People really wanted him to make the movie, and I think it was ultimately Sam Jackson who really coerced him into finally doing it. Otherwise he was just going to publish the script to sell as a book.

@@cristonsloan He was the original choice to play John Ruth or Oswaldo according to Tarantino. When the leak happened he only sent the script to 6 people and he was apparently one of them. 4 people proved it wasn't them including Madsen, Roth, and Jackson. I don't think Cristoph personally leaked it but I think he gave it to the wrong people associated with him.

Jennifer Jason Leigh’s reaction to Kurt Russell smashing the guitar is genuine. The guitar was an old guitar that was Lend to them from a museum. They forgot to switch it out for the prop before it was destroyed

I bet someone lost their job that day. That’s tragic.
@cristonsloan

I work on movie sets (most times as part of the Props Dept) and there is absolutely No way that someone "forgot" to switch out that prop, which apparently was a very rare and priceless antique. It was either done deliberately by Tarantino (which is the popular hypothesis) or it is a BS story. I very much suspect the latter.

Tarantino is a true student of the game, he managed to create the perfect Western film while discarding almost all the usual tropes and rules of engagement in Westerns. That man is a master of his craft.

It's probably just me, but were there a number of orchestral cues from 'John Carpenter's: The Thing' being used in this film?

I believe it is the same composer and he did use some musical themes that were written, but not used for The Thing. Please, someone correct me if I’m mistaken.

He did use a cue from The Thing, it’s the music Casual Nerd commented on when they were outside in the snow. However that particular track was an unused cue from The Thing that didn’t make the cut, but was on the soundtrack album.

“Murder on the Orient Express in the Wild West” is how I describe The Hateful Eight. There’ll never be another one like this flick here. P.S. I believe Major [Marquis] Warren did literally do horrible things to General Sandy Smithers’ son (if you get what I mean) there is no way you can make a person agitated by lying about “attacking” somebody close to em. And the revolver Major Warren placed to General Smithers’ table side was in my theory the General’s son’s revolver.

I truly love this movie, it's crazy underrated amongst Tarantino fans. The only problem I have with it is the ending, the plot twist which could have been better written in my opinion. Instead of having all of them being the bad guys I personally would have made it like a detective Clue thing where there's only one villian working for her or something, and add more intrigue and mind games. But overall, really nice movie, odd cozy vibes.

Typical Tarantino film. Fun ride, well presented, hyper colorful characters with excessive personality... they remind me of comic book characters, but if you stop and think it the story doesn't make any sense at all. For those who don't know - dead bodies stink and make a huge mess. The bowels release so there is a strong sewage smell, the floor and furniture would be covered in poo & pee, the microorganisms in the gut start consuming the body releasing horrific gases and so dead bodies fart and it is horrific. They'd have needed a full day to clean and air out that place to make this story work. There is no way anyone walking in there wouldn't have known there were dead bodies everywhere.
