In this video I attempted to design, 3d print and build a flexible 3D printed FPV drone frame out of TPU filament. TPU is very durable because of its strong layer adhesion and flexibility, which makes it a great material for a project like this. However, flexibility can also introduce weird flight characteristics and low frequency oscillations in the motors, which can damage components. Did I manage to solve this problem without sacrificing durability? Make sure to watch the video to find out.

Perfect...isolated due to stupid covid.My 3d printers are idle as I just finished printing a small rc tank . And I can use this for "no fear" close proximity flying . I have a spool of flesh colored TPU I've wanted to try. Hopefully the dogs in the park don't mistake it for a Pork Chop .Oh yeah...RC Life On is going to find you both...good luck...lol

What's the frame size ? Diagonal motor to motor. Looks good. Does TPU handles vibration good enough not to cause trouble in PID loop of controller board ? I have been so far experimenting with my own design with PLA.

No weird vibrations, it flies like a normal fpv quad. Size is approximately 200mm motor to motor (diagonally), so it can be printed on the Ender 3 or similarly sized printers

Not as good as direct drive, but not bad. I have to adjust my retraction settings though.

Sooo I have the stl... looks like the way you printed it takes considerably longer than upside down... is there a reason for this... also... is there a more detailed print settings... I am using Cura... I really wanna make this drone man. I'll buy ya two coffees.

My print settings are pretty bad right now and there was a lot of post processing required. As long as you have 3 perimeters and 25% infill you should be ok

I'm not 100% certain since I didn't have a scale on hand, but I'm guessing almost 200g.

Open the STL on your slicer, it'll give you an estimate

Just in case you hadn't found the answer, or for people looking in the future, here is what I got in cura. These weights are just the parts, not counting printing supports for those measuring for material: All parts are estimated with 4 perimeter walls @20% infill Frame: ~135g Camera Cover: ~23g Bottom Cap: ~9g Estimated Total: 167g

I'm not sure that it is watertight, so it is not likely that it floats.

@@GregMakesStuff Try it with just the frame, no components. If that big of a frame can float by it's own I reckon it'll still float with components. It doesn't have to fly back out the water, if it just doesn't sink it would be so much easier than carbon frames in risky environments =)

I printed one out of TPU with I think 30% infill .I just put it on a scale for you.It weighs 122 grams with the canopy and bottom plate included

After all those high speed crashes, the electronics were fine. The flight controller and escs are fully protected, the only parts at risk are the gopro and the fpv camera
