On March 2nd, 2023, Tennessee Senate Bill 3 was signed into law, effectively banning drag shows in front of minors and public spaces. This marked the first piece of anti-drag legislation to be passed in the United States and opened the floodgates for many others to be brought to House and Senate floors. India Laurelle Houston, winner of 2021 Miss Gay Arlington and performer at Perry’s drag brunch in Adams Morgan, tackles common misconceptions surrounding the art form and reveals the vibrant and multifaceted world of drag while shedding light on the political struggles it faces. Through her performances, interview, and behind-the-scenes footage she offers an authentic portrayal of the real-life experiences of a drag artist along with the profound impact drag has on their personal identity and sense of empowerment.
