कालापानी हा प्रदेश भारतातील उत्तराखंडच्या पिथौरागढ जिल्ह्याचा एक भाग आहे. येथून जाणारा रस्ता हा कैलास मानसरोवराकडे जातो. भारताच्या नवीन राजकीय नकाशाने नेपाळच्या पश्चिमेकडील भागाशी संबंधित असलेल्या प्रदेशावरील भारतीय दाव्यांचा पुनरुच्चार केला आहे. उत्तराखंडचा भाग म्हणून या ऐतिहासिक प्रदेशावर भारताचा दावा आहे.
लिपूलेख पास मार्गामुळे कैलाश मानसरोवरला जाणाऱ्या भारतीय यात्रेकरुंचा वेळ वाचणार आहे. यावरुनच आता कालापानी-लिंपियाधुरा-लिपुलेक हे प्रदेश कोणत्याही परिस्थितीत नेपाळच्या नकाशामध्ये परत आणले जातील, अशा इशारा नेपाळचे पंतप्रधान के.पी.ओली यांनी दिला आहे.
