Narmada River is one of the major rivers of India. This river flows through the Indian states of Madhya Pradesh (1078 km), Maharashtra (72-74 km), Gujarat (160 km). Narmada is the fifth largest river in the Indian subcontinent and the largest western channel river. A dispute has erupted between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh over the allocation of Narmada water. Both the states are trying to use maximum water of Narmada. The Gujarat government has gained a lot of political advantage as Narmada water has reached many parts of Gujarat. Madhya Pradesh wants to divert Narmada water to many dry areas with the aim of gaining political leverage over the water. Narmada water will also be released into Kshipra river. Instead of Gujarat, only Madhya Pradesh is trying to use Narmada water as much as possible. Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh have come face-to-face on many issues like dams to be built on Narmade, water usage, displacement of people from submerged areas of dams. Narmada water sharing is becoming a never ending problem
