Hrishikesh Kanitkar four! India vs Pakistan . India create a new world record chasing 315 to defeat Pakistan in 1998 Independence Cup final at Dhaka which was the highest successful chase at that time
More than 18 years to this match. Yet any 90s kid could still recall name of Hrishikesh Kanitkar, because of the boundary he hit on that ball. Since then, India has won much more tight matches, but this one remains always stuck in my memory A match like no one.
We Indians have a lot to thank Robin Singh. In those days, he was the most committed cricketer. A true all rounder who would do anything to stop an extra run. A real spark on the field. This man inspired India to turn into a good fielding unit. An Unsung Hero! Thank you Robin sir for the commitment and the dedication shown and for the wonderful memories! #Respect
Yes he would been the right choice for 96 WC.Just imagine it was Robin who picked up price scalp of Aravinda dsilva in 99wc, if he was there in 96, Ind would hv been through
After fall of Sachin's Wicket, Pakistan team celebrated like they had won World Cup, that was the importance of Sachin in Indian team. No other cricketer can ever replace the value of Sachin.
u know when Sachin was Captain before this series In Sharjah he Send Robin SIngh 1 Drop and was out for Duck he was Criticised Heavily and But Sachin told Robin has Got grt potential to change the game , Same in this game Robin singh was sent 1 Drop & his 83 Helped India Hugely and People Started praising Azhar for that Decision :P :P
Sachin was Criticised as Bad Captain but He came close to victories Over seas Some of his Decisions were really good Sad he wasnt Supported properly , Even Laxman made Debut in His Captaincy :) But he found his soft spot in middle order only problem was bowling dept it clicked Sometimes failed There was no consistancy
That four made Kanitkar enter the realms of legend....there are many videos which give tribute to big names....I will offer my tribute to ROBIN SINGH..not much celebrated player but the service which he provided for his country is really great.....saved India in many tough situations....no one will remember him.
I consider him as one of the greatest Indian player who always considered team the foremost... Legendary Fielder... A Savior for Team India in numerous occasions... One who brought fielding into lime light along with Ajay Jadeja... The times that remains in my memory forever...
I still remember the headlines in Indian Express "Starters Tendulkar, Main Course Ganguly, Dessert Kanitkar , India have a sumptuous meal at Pakistan's expense " - Super Cool
What a memory, scintillating cricket match it was. I remember sachin’s brutal 41 of 26 balls, then Ganguly playing his role and finish by Kanitkar. Next day while town was discussing nothing but this victory. First ever 300 plus chase by India if I remember correctly.
I remember this match! We were all glued. Sourav played well but for me the man of the match will always be Robin Singh. He was at that time the Bevan India had got.
Its still not broken and probably wont be unless they play a huge number of matches a year.Any record not broken in 30 years( read a generation) is legend stuff.
I still can remember the thrilling of the last boundary by Kanitkar. So many tables & chairs were broken in jumping after the last 4 of Kanitkar........there was a DIWALI like environment all around after this match. On next day, news was coming in news paper that somebody got heart attack and died, saying 4,4,4,4 after watching the last 4 of Kanitkar ..... A truck driver left his hand from steering while he was listening the live match in radio when Kanitkar hit that last 4 and caused accident.........somebody jumped from 1st floor........ and so many........This was the greatest ODI match of all time.
match ended at around 5:15 on a cold Sunday evening, it was the month of Ramadan, india won exactly 1 min before the fasting time was over, adhe se zada logo ne 1 min pehle he Roza khol liya tha patakho ki awaaz sunkar, itne zada involved tha India us waqt cricket me.. Those were the golden days of Cricket, thank u for bring back my childhood memories..
Sachin and Sourav got a brilliant start!!! Then Dada with Rabin Singh sailed through and what a dramatic win from the bat of young man Kanitkar!!! Hats off to Sachin -Sourav Combination...golden memories for Indian Cricket ...
Once Akram also admitted that Sourav is habitual of getting MoM awards against Pak. Those tense and winning moments still are in our hearts. Great job by Sachin, Sourav, Robin and Kanitkar. Jai Ho India 🇮🇳
It was a Sunday, I was 11 years old studying 6th class!!!!! I saw this match live with family in black n white television!!!!! final moments of the game v were very tensed... but it was an immense joy seeing india go through lifting the cup!!!! awesome days
Sri Lanka had earlier earned the honour of the first 300-plus ODI chase when they scored 313 to trump Zimbabwe. This match was perhaps more significant for the two teams were almost evenly matched, in the top tier of international cricket, and with a rivalry that ran as deep emotionally as that between England and Australia.
This is the only final in ODI history in which India beat Pakistan ..... Otherwise Pakistan beat India 8 times !!! From Australasia Cup 1986 to Champions Trophy 2017 😱
That blistering knock by the little master set the tone for this epic run chase. Taking out the likes of Waqar Younis from the equation could only be done by one man and he did it perfectly. Such beautiful display of fearless stroke play against quality attack, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, we salute your genius :)
Waqar was not there in this match. But yeah that little gem of an attacking innings by the little master had a huge resemblance to the one he played at Centurion against Pakistan in the 2003 World Cup.
this perticular match, & kolkata test match 2001 against Australia, VVS Laxman played 281 run innings, are 2 incidents, which changed global image of Indian team of easily surrendering team into transforming into a strong fighter team which fights till the last breath !
Classic match. I still remember I was a school kid and the shopkeeper in front of my block gave free ice creams to all the kids in celebration of this win... there was diwali like celebration everywhere..good ol days..and also remember in those days Pakistan was one of the strongest team and had embarrassed India many times before at will especially in 1997 season so this win was rejoiced more due to the fact
+Abhijit Salunkhe India tried him at no 3 in one of the series against SL 1n 1997. He responded well with 1, 42, 100 and 28 in the four innings he played. The century he scored in this series was his only century in ODIs. Then in Toronto against Pakistan he batted at No 3 once where he was dismissed with the moving new red ball (those days sahara cup was played with white uniforms and red ball). In other innings he came down the order. Then onwards he was on and off at no 3. He occasionally batted at no 3 (as a pinch hitter) when India needed quick runs. India's usual batting order was Sourav, Sachin, Dravid, Azhar, Jadeja, Robin, Mongia, Joshi, Srinath, Kumble and Prasad. If Robin Singh bats at no 3, India was seriously in trouble with that line up with out a good finisher. It would have been too much pressure on Jadeja to be a finisher where the batting to follow (Mongia to Prasad) was extremely unreliable. Fortunately, most of the times, India got good starts from Sachin and Sourav. Rahul Dravid was tremendous in consolidating the Indian innings at no 3. Hence Jadeja and Robin were utilized as finishers. Hope this answers your question.

Childhood memories resurrected Sachin was everywhere then in every house One man show..what a Match winner he was billions of hope on one shoulder ..no one can ever match him..pure imotional days were those far beyond money like todays
What a match! Nail biting finish. Dada, Sachin and Robin singh was just outstanding and last but not least Kanitkar was at his best. Cherishing childhood memories. I was in Class VII at that time.
i will never forget this match.i got the news of my grandmas death during the 25th over of india's second innings of this match but boy was i happy to see india win.miss my grandma though.miss you aita.

Oh this match!!! I was barely 11 years old then. And that name Kanitkar, who can forget? This match was in my mind for so many years. Watching it again is like taking back a trip to the childhood...
Everyone here is talking about Sachin, kanitkar, robin Singh. Very few people seem to remember that Dada scored 124 runs in this game and stayed till the end to play a match winning knock.
Dada, was a royal bengal tiger? Bengal tiger (Bangladesi or indian) is unbeaten to whole world....That day if dada did not score 124 then india would lost, do you know the tournament was title "Independence Cup"??? pakistani supporter wants to prove it in another angle.....Allah save our honor....both bangladesh and india.

@@owais1665 still india is far ahead than pakistan wc, ct, asia cup, u19 wc india has more trophies than pakistan and tri series me to khair tumhara khata hi nahi khula
Who can forget this match? Earlier, for many years, it was only a loss for us, in the final against Pakistan. This match changed the Indian cricket's mindset. With Sehwag's entry, after a few months, the mindset changed upside-down
Still remember this day, I was hardly 11 years old- There was a power outage in our colony and there was only one TV put outside on the street by the TV repair shop guy. The entire street must have watched this match on that single TV. Good old days! TV repair shop businesses are no more, neither is the camaraderie that people used to share.
I was a 12y old watching the match with the entire family on a sunday evening. My God, that was a hell of a match. I still remember that name "Hrishikesh Kanitkar" only for that boundary. Our entire family including my mom jumped out of our seats watching that boundary. ❤
what a match it was! I vividly remember how tensed my house was seein young kanetkar come to bat in those last overs. brought back so many good Indo Pak cricketing memories! thnx fr uploading! Bharat Mata ki Jai!
suhass, thanks a lot.....I was at stadium along with a sachin tendulkar photo....the sachin innings was small but extra-ordinary, the best inning ever for s tendulkar.....what a stormy opening....and the whole momentum goes to favor of india.....thanks again....I have serach the match several times but was failed.....now for you.....I watch the highlights....
OMG...i remember when i was a kid , during this match i had to study as a punishment and suddenly i heard neighbours shouting and clapping with joy, ppl in my society came out , there were firecrackers bursting continuously and full on party..lol the next day at school my freinds were teasing me like "how could u not see this match?? Kanitkar was a hero" ..lol it was simply amazing, those childhood memories..!
It's a monumental task to chase 300+ during that age of cricket and India did it. I still remember those memories watching live when kanitkar blasted that last boundary. Nerve wrenching game. Bravo India.
This is the only final in ODI history in which India beat Pakistan ..... Otherwise Pakistan beat India 8 times !!! From Australasia Cup 1986 to Champions Trophy 2017 😱.....
OMG thank you so much for reviving among the best memories of childhood , i was about 9 yrs old that time and during the match the electricity was frequent at my place (Also becoz of monsoon) and I beg to God time to time for India's Win and eventually it did .Thanks to God , I don't remembered I have thanked God at that time or not :P ,but i do it now :V Any way thanks a lot for flourishing beautiful memories , and yes these were the RADIO DAYS :P
I have seen plenty of cricket in my life. but one batsman would like to see again again is Sachin tendulkar. even after losing twenty lakhs in the betting , I continue to watch the recorded innings of Sachin. it is an immense pleasure and treat to watch. I love Sachin. do not mind for losing money.
I started to see cricket when Sachin started playing for India twenty five years back and given up cricket after he retired. only see even today recorded matches of Sachin. but it is for sure coz of immense faith and confidence had in Sachin , made me to bet in favour of him and today I have become bankrupt. still all these I love my god Sachin.
INDIA's first World record cheesing win and it's My favorite match I was watching live it was bllstriring start by master blaster Sachin Tendulkar always best 124 run saurab ganguly and most importantly contribution of Robin Singh and great heart beat finish by kanitkar in the last over Confident victory for Team India winning by 3 wicket congrats
Thanks for reviving the memories! Though it should have been an easy win, we lost the way towards the end. Srinath did a wonderful job and Inzy's fielding effort was also superb!
Kanitkar registered immortal name in indian cricket only due to this match..remember watching each and every ball of this match at a jam packed electronics shop as the cable TV used to be in very few homes those days..
This is the most remembered and ingrained in my memory match .. India has had such tight finishes yet this match where just two bowlers took it to the victory point where Indians had given up and Pakistanis were already celebrating after Sachin's wicket .. 😊
Now a days anybody rarely talks about Robin Singh. He might not have been technically great but had a big big heart. And was never scared of anything.... Salute sir
I still remember the scores robin Singh 82 , Ganguly 124 and Sachin 41 and kanithkar winning shot. This is the first cricket match i remember. I was 9 when the match happened. I still remember watching this match in our poor visuals solidaire TV...
I was in 4th standard when this happened, those days anything above 250 was considered very difficult. I remember watching it with my entire family and talking about it all day with my friends in school the following day, good times.
This is the match where saurav gaguly has broken the hype of Pakistan after that match India record against Pakistan have been better than that of previous one
@@utkarshjoshi2872 i mean like unexpected events like ct17 can happen when pakistan can beat india with a weaker team but pak and india dont play against each other much these days so those unexoected victories dont come around soon, probably in years for pakistan now.
sachin blistring knock laid the foundation of india. his innings of 41 in just 26 balls evens the runs and balls difference and also disturb the line and length of pakistan bowlers.
It is the baap of all T20 batting ,somebody was telling me one day that Tendulkar did not play enough T20 matches.I told him the guy was playing T20 style throughout his one day career😂 just need to watch an innings like this ,the one against New Zealand when he opened first time and the 20 over match in 89 where he smashed the Great Abdul Qadir.😅
Can never forget this match. Me and my friend, we were in 9th standard and watched the last overs in our tuition centre it was Indian Team's ritual that time when Sachin gets out the whole team falls like pack of cards but this match was on a different level. When Kanitkar hit that last 4, it was celebrations and fire crackers and tuition was over half an hour early. What a great memory !
Back in the days, when Sri lanka, Pakistan & Australia used to celebrate Sachin's wicket as if they won the world cup.. until 2000 it was Sachin only (til Dravid & Ganguly get the form)
Only few know that this match was fixed by Mohd. Azharuddin and he was the only person who was unhappy with India's win. because of this only, Hrishikesh Kanikar was dropped from the team and never got chance to comeback.
@@MrGupta-ze1xqthey may have achieved the first 300+ chase but I am interested to know what Zimbabwe got in that match batting first. Think it was less than 314. Zimbabwe got 312 in that match. Here it was 314 that Pakistan got. India had 315 to chase that's why it was a world record chase. Stats providers are present in the comm box to give the comms every information.
No there was a match in 1992 between sri lanka and zimbabwe when 300 got chased but at that time in 1998 this was the highest chase, the difficulty level in this match is much more than any,as this was a 48 over chase and the last 15 overs were played in very poor light. The ball was hardly seen well.Dadas wicket bowled by aaqib javed is an example that he didnt even see the ball. The difficulty level is atleast about chasing 375 today atleast if not more taking into consideration the par 50 over score would have been 330 by extrapolation and atleast 15-20% inflation in runs due to two new balls, grounds being smaller and no reverse swing anymore at the backend of the innings as well as one extra fielder less outside the thirty yard circle.
this was one of my fav intense match of india vs pakistan. back in those days - pakistan was really very formidable team with great batting and bowling power. Anwar used to hit indian bowlers like anything. but am glad we won this cup and it was sensational memories back then. thanks for the upload SUHAAS... and :) vijay mallya giving away award cheques for ganguly , siddhu back in 1998 days... wow. how times change ?
Watch all innings of Sachin at Dhaka and Sharjah you forget to compare Sachin with kohli.its not important to make runs only to judje cricketer.the each strokes Sachin played in series is unforgettable.i loved the way he played.
Who compares kohli and sachin except some 2008 born kids???sachin can only be compared with bradman..in terms of handling pressure,he can only be compared with one person..that man's name is sachin ramesh tendulkar...
This match was fixed from Azhar.. but sourav, robin singh and kanitkar changed the result against fixing.from 1994 to 99 most of triangular cricket tournaments final were fixed. Kanitkar never got further few more chance after this big contribution in such high voltage match. Actually it was his punishment from the gang of match fixer.
Here comes the DADA. The fixer azharudin want him to come out of the ground when umpire offered light.India was loosing by dl system. DADA'S ans was HELL NO. win or lose I will play in the dark. He was ready to get hurt. Pakistanis tried to hurt him. This was the day when he won the match for INDIA and respect for him from every INDIAN. THE GREAT SAURAV GANGULY "DADA"...First actual captain of INDIAN CRICKET TEAM .
@@utkarshjoshi2872 when did you saw kapil shows the guts because I never seen that. Maine to bhai Indian players ko gaali khake gaand me poonch dabakar bhagte hue hi dekha tha Ganguly se pehle .Venktesh prasad ke ilava koi baat yaad nahi aati mujhe.
I watched final moments of this match at a roadside tent in Mumbai. When Kanitkar hit four, the whole group screamed. Sadly this was the only best moment for Kanitkar. He never made it big for India.
the way Pakistani celebrated Sachin's dismissal. it says everything.. but this match was an epic..I still remember Jan 1998 and people in India celebrated this victory as diwali..Dada and Robin singh was brilliant..and in last Kanitkar..who became unforgettable after hitting that boundary.. thanks for uploading
I remember each ball of this match.... Azhar,Jadeja,Sidhu, the 3 most experienced(at that time) could not show that day... but the day was for sachin, robin singh and sourav ganguly
India's Tail (Last 4 Batsmen) was really bad at that time..... and with an average Middle-order, defeat was certain if India were 4 wkts down.. ... i think Yuvraj was the key who gave strength to the Tail by coming in at No.5/6 followed by Mohd.Kaif...
I was in 9th standard when was watching the match.i was so tensed that could not control my tears even after winnings shot of kanitkar... kanitkars name has been written in golden letters..
41 from 26 if Sachin had stayed till 30 overs Damn sure india was way ahead interms of Victory!!! Injury free Sachin kaise maartha baap re!!!! All his back injury and Tennis elbow he changed his stance Thereby some bowlers got advantage!!! His attacking stance im damn sure no one would have dominated him!!!
Breathtaking Inning. Watched this match in my village at neighbourhood. Almost all were sure that India will loose after Pak made 314 which is considered to be impossible to chase at that time...But Dada, Sachin and Robin Singh made it possible. And who will forget that brilliant much needed four by Kanitakar..!! This are golden memories. Always love to cherish again and again. Thank you for uploading it
