Indian Air Force's Most Successful Airstrike (And They Didn't Even Know About It)

In the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War, both Air Forces launched numerous counter-air missions. Indian Air Force often used Hawker Hunters. Equipped with four powerful cannons, they could effectively strafe any enemy aircraft caught in the open. On 8 December, four Indian Hunters from No 20 Squadron attacked Murid airbase and they estimated their effectiveness to be quite good. They thought they had damaged a transport aircraft and two MiG-19s. The real truth would remain hidden for seventeen years and it would come from an unexpected source.

The place where India truly triumphed over Pakistan was the co-ordination between the different branches. Just airframes are not the war. India and Pakistan had similar capabilities for most part in 1v1 scenario. However, Indian Airforce would provide beyond excellent support to it’s ground and naval forces in 65, 71, and 99. That's something PAF never could do properly.

It’s kinda hilarious how much Indian military, specially IAF downplays it’s achievements- Shoots down a MiG 19 using the Su-7, doesn’t confirm the kill, later was found out to have destroyed the jet Attacks Murid Airbase destroying multiple Sabres, thinks that it has blown up a C130 and 2 MiG-19s at most Completely obliterates the Muntho Dahlo logistics base during Kargil war, thinks of it as barely a small objective whereas that was the primary logistics hub of Pak NLI (Btw, I will wait for you to do the Muntho Dahlo bombing)

Great presentation. You may want to make a video on an Indian pilot destroying Chuck Yeager's aircraft during the 1971 war. The pilot, Admiral Arun Prakash, then a Lieutenant, was from Indian Navy, a Sea Hawk pilot who was sent to the Number 20 sqn of IAF on deputation during the 1971 war and flew the Hunter. He lead a strike on Chaklala air base on 4th December where he first targeted a water tank thinking it to be the ATC tower, and then went on to destroy Chuck Yeager's beechcraft. Infact the then US ambassador Edward Ingraham described in a book that how frustrated Chuck Yeager was, blaming the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi of instructing the Indian pilot to target Yeager's aircraft. For now, probably not as I don't think there are enough assets in WT for it. There's a new game by an Indian developer which is all about the naval part of the campaign. It looks a bit raw but if they refine it, it might be useful for something like that.

Dear Showtime112, I have been following your channel for a good many years and I admire and respect your re-enactments. They are top quality. However, I am sorry to say but that I have noticed that your recent India v Pakistan videos have had a pro-India bias. When I started following your channel, you showed a good balance between India and Pakistan but then a lot of indians started complaining that you were showing too many Pakistani victories. Since then I've noticed that your last couple of videos have been mainly indian victories. I would be grateful you would re-balance the coverage by showing a round of Pakistani victories now (and there are plenty of them).You may wish to consider showing the following: - 1965 PAF strike on IAF air base in Pathankot which destroyed India's mig-21 fleet in 1965 (carried out by no.19 sqdn PAF) - 1965 PAF strike on IAF air base in Kalaikunda which destroyed IAF's canberra's (carried out by no 14 sqdn - they became known as "the tail choppers" as quite literally they chopped off the tails of India' canberra's which were parked side-by-side) - 1965 PAF mission in which MM Alam shot down upto 5 IAF hunters over Sargodha air base -1 965 PAF mission where 2 F-86 sabres shot down 4 IAF Vampires over the Chamb battlefield (resulting in the complete withdrawal of the IAF's fleet of vampires from the war theatre) - 1971 PAF strike misson of Mirage 3's ground attack strike on Indian Railway yard at Mukerian, resulting the destruction of India's tanks, fuel, and other supplies awating transportation on trains. You referred to a book " The Story Of The Pakistan Air Force. A Saga Of Courage And Honour" as a reference point in this video (I have a copy of the same book) and all the listed PAF victories are covered in this book. So, you can use this same book as your reference point for showing some PAF victories. I look forward to looking at some Pakistani air to air and air to ground victories. Thank you.
@showtime112
@showtime112 Год назад
Thank you for this elaborate comment! It is very tough to maintain a balance between Indian and Pakistani videos, I can tell you that 😁 Those two in a row were done because it took me a lot of time to unlock the Hunter and because I came across these two missions flown by the same pilots so it seemed like a nice package. Btw, I got these stories primarily from Kaiser Tufail, a Pakistani. Even this video actually mentions a Pakistani kill over an Indian Hunter but I think you might like the next one better. To cover more stories from Indo-Pak Wars, I need to grind WT a bit more to unlock Sabre, B-57 and F-104. It will take some time but at least some topics you mention will be covered.
@samisattar6308
@samisattar6308 Год назад
@@showtime112 Thank you for your reply. Well, I very much look forward to the next Pakistan India video although I think you will need to make at least two big ticket Pakistani victory videos in a row now following the hunter videos. You have plenty of engagements to choose from the list that I outlined and the reference source which you used for this video - PAF A saga of courage and Valour - provides informative material on the 1965 war operations. Also, please note that the 1971 PAF strike on Indian rail yard at Mukerian may well be covered by Kaiser Tufail. It was headed by Wing Commander Hakimullah who later became PAF Air Chief. The strike force consisted of 4 Mirage 3 on a bombing mission. Thank you.
