Chuck Yeager was the US adviser to the Pakistani Air Force during this period and he was very upset when the Indian Air Force destroyed his personal Beechcraft on the ground during an air raid. You should recreate this encounter.
I think I read something about it. I'm not sure which Indian airplanes took part in this but they were probably Hunters or Su-7s which we lack in DCS. Hunter is supposedly being developed. Su-7 was available as a mod but it doesn't work in the latest version anymore.

there was another clash between PAF starfighters and Indian Fishbeds over the gulf of cutch between a flight led by Wing Commander Mervyn Leslie Middlecoat to quote wiki in the matter Promoted to Wing Commander, at the outbreak of war on 3 December 1971 Middlecoat was on a training assignment with the Royal Jordanian Air Force. The day after he returned to Karachi, he volunteered for a mission to attack the heavily defended Indian airbase at Jamnagar on 12 December.[4] After strafing aircraft parked on the runway, Middlecoat and his wingman were forced to abort their mission when they were bounced by two IAF MIG-21 aircraft from No. 47 Squadron IAF.[4][6] Middlecoat, as leader of the sortie, was entitled to egress first but instead told his younger wingman to depart ahead of him. Maintaining a high speed, he reduced altitude and managed to deflect the first missile fired at his Starfighter. However, with the lead MiG21 closing range, he was shot down over the Rann (Gulf) of Kutch. The Indian pilot who shot him down, Flight Lieutenant Bharat Bhushan Soni, saw Middlecoat eject and his parachute deploy. As he fell into the Arabian Sea, Soni contacted a nearby IAF base to send a rescue team; however, by the time potential rescuers arrived, Middlecoat was nowhere to be found.[4] He had landed in shark infested waters and it was considered unlikely that he survived.[citation needed] Declared missing in action, he was posthumously awarded a Bar to the Sitara-i-Jurat. His remains were never found. please make a video on this the Fighters in the dog fight Indian side MiG-21FL PAF side F-104 STAR FIGHTER

I think they were sending those F-104s on CAP missions more as deterrence. As long as Indians see them on their radars, they'll keep away. Guess they were wrong.
@@showtime112 I think you are correct. The 104's were not flown very smartly. Target fixation is a real problem that has been there since WW1. I am not sure the 104's were every really in the fight. Do you know if they were under PK GCI control at the time? The 104's should have used their better acceleration and climb to zoom away from the 21's and then use that Pk energy to escape or return to the fight. However, I would have escaped as the gun was very unreliable at the time and going against missile armed aircraft when you only have a gun is a mugs game. Just set up a simple DCS scenario with the same aircraft on different sides, one side with missiles and the other with just guns... all things being equal, the missile equipped aircraft would prevail. I talked to a 104 pilot, and he said the 104s were designed primarily to launch and intercept bombers as rapidly as possible. You can tell by the stubby wings they weren’t super maneuverable. Great graphics and presentation.
That is a myth. It was designed as a fighter. He may have flown it in the interception role but he doesn't know the true history of the aircraft. There is also a former F-14 pilot on the internet who says the F-14 was an interceptor that was not intended to dogfight. That is not true either. Not all pilots know the history of the aircraft they fly.
@@gort8203 Interceptors are fighters. The F-104 was designed to take off and rapidly climb to altitude. For West Germany - it was right on the border with the Warsaw Pact - so - if it was attacked - they wanted an aircraft that could do what the F-104 could do. They then went and used it for all kinds of things it wasn't really suited for. .
@@BobSmith-dk8nw Of course interceptors are fighters, but the F-104 was designed as a fighter, not an "interceptor". Read the history of the airplane. Kelly Johnson interviewed Korean War fighter pilots and in response to their desires designed a simple lightweight air superiority fighter with superior speed, climb, and ceiling so it could dominate enemy fighters in combat. USAF had not even asked for such a plane, but when he showed them the design they decided they wanted him to build it. The aircraft was not unsuited to any of the roles it was asked to perform, with the possible exception of being a stopgap interceptor for Air Defense Command while the F-106 was delayed. As a pure day fighter with no radar missiles or SAGE equipment it was not a fully suitable all-weather bomber interceptor, but they needed something to fill the gap until the F-106 was ready. The G model was inherently suitable for the low-level nuclear strike role in which it replaced jets like the F-84F.
People you are confused regarding what fighter and interceptor means really bad. Fighter means an aircraft that is nimble and it can dogfight. Good example of such aircraft is Mig-17 or Mig-19. Or F-16 certainly, from a different era of course. Interceptor is an aircraft NOT designed to dogfight in the first place, but instead designed to be very fast, great acceleration, and long range missiles. Good examples of this type is the F-104 and Mig-23 again Mig-23 came much later though. Shit agility both but great speed and acceleration. Get in the fight very fast, get the missile in the ass of the enemy and get the hell out of the zone very fast. That is an interceptor. What made the Mig-21 superior to the F-104, if you look at service period its pretty obvious is that while the Mig-21 was a great interceptor, it was as well a fairly good dogfighter in the same time.
The Starfighter mod is pretty useful for setting a scene. All of those mods external models are really really good. Also, the Indo-Pakistani conflicts are definitely something not a lot of westerners know about. I've currently been reading a lot about them, and it really opened my eyes. Quick side-note on the Starfighter, but that wing is so freaking sharp. An instructor told me many technicians would give themselves nasty cuts on the leading edges. There's one at the museum here so I wanted to feel just how sharp, and man it's literally a knife blade. Great video
The mod is useful. And the Indo-Pakistani wars were fought in that interesting period when technology wasn't yet overwhelming. They still had to come close, pull some maneuvers and use guns or short range missiles. It's too bad that in DCS we have few types used in the 1965. conflict, a lot of interesting stuff happened there. Thanks for the comment!
The leading edge was usually covered with a rubber lined edge protector when on the ground. One of the first things to mount to a plane having just taxied in.

Excellent presentation. The best way to destroy an F-104 fleet is just to get your adversary to fly them a lot. They have a terribly high attrition rate. Pakistani planners on this mission - I know, let's use one of the world's least maneuverable fighters for gunfighting. Yeah, what could go wrong!

As recently as 2019, India gave MiG 21s a rare distinction of killing an F-16 fighter jet, which is way -way- way ahead of this flying machine. The comments are hilarious. The Mig gets a lucky kill based on a pilot having severe target fixation, and a complete lack of situational awareness, to the point of ignoring his flight leader, and people think the Mig is somehow superior. The loss of the F-104 is due to a complete and utter failure on the part of the unfortunate deceased pilot. Period. A well trained and situationally aware pilot in the F-104 would have never entered a flat turn fight, and never continued a flat turn. Nor would he completely ignore his 6 o'clock AND his flight leader's warning.

I really enjoy it when people who has never ever touch even in static displays a fighter aircraft give an opinion on flying or capabilities of such a precious warfare piece....planes are what they're supossed to be a man operated machine....so if the operator is very well trained and current that will make a diference for the outcome of the encounter...
The way that encounter happened it cannot be concluded that one type was superior to the other. The Indian MiG-15s had infrared air-to-air missiles while the Pakistani F-104s were not so equiped for that mission.
Phantom Killer vs Widowmaker This war and the Vietnam War had a huge impact on the design of the US 4th gen fighter later on, where the maneuverability of the aircraft became important again.
I wonder what are the kill statistics of the R-3S and how it compares with other similar timeframe early IR missiles. Looks like India didn't have much trouble with them?
I haven't exactly done much research. If you look at two MiG-21 vs F-104 encounters, the MiGs launched three missiles and one of them hit. That's amazing statistics for the period but the sample is small.
The F-104 Starfighter was designed as an interceptor aircraft and not an air superiority fighter. In other words, it was built to counter Soviet long range bombers at high altitude and not engage other fighter aircraft so its performance against the MIG-21 is not surprising. The performance of the Mig-21 against the F-4 Phantom in Vietnam was not impressive even with Soviet pilots at the controls.
@@ankitpundir302 Not all interceptors are created equal. The F-104 was not just built as an interceptor aircraft but to intercept Soviet nuclear-capable jet powered bombers that were thought to be superior to those of the United States. This was referred to as "The bomber gap." It has stubby wings and terrible maneuverability and only later versions had hard points for additional missiles or bombs. It recorded zero kills in Vietnam. There was a reason it was called the flying coffin as it had the highest loss rate due to non-combat accidents of any fighter ever produced by the U.S. It was replaced by the F-106 Delta Dart as the main U.S. interceptor aircraft. It was however a great commercial success and an upgrade for many countries' air forces. I enjoy watching your videos.
To be fair.. the 104 was known as a flying coffin as its small wings caused it to be problematic. However, no doubt, if the 104 had missiles instead of fuel tanks or if PAF was using their own 104, rather then those borrowed from Jordan, its clear they would have minced the Migs
