The new Chief’s are so similar to ride to the steel framed Victories. I did over 85000 kms on my Highball. Everything you said applies to the victory. I had to replace the foot pegs and frame mount bolts a few times due to scraping. Beautiful bike and ride safe. Oh reckon you scrape right side more due to the road camber.

I can see why the Victory and Chief would ride similarly Sticks. With Polaris being the parent company for both it's natural to assume the Victory motorcycles morphed into the Indian line up. ;)

Hi Paul, It is great to hear that everything’s going well with the bike, being a well built modern bike that you have carefully run in, you should expect years of trouble free riding. Anything less would be disappointing. I guess we should see the sissy bar soon?

It's interesting you mention the lack of heat. It's a very similar bike to my HD 114 Street Bob. At lights my HD heats up very quickly. The insides of my legs get roasted. As soon as you're moving again it cools very quickly. Your Indian looks very good. Love the colour.

Thank you! It could be what I'm wearing. I always wear heavy kevlar jeans when riding. I'm sure I'd feel it more if I wore shorts or lighter weight fabrics as I see some people wearing.

@@BikesILike I'm in Townsville so I wear king gee cargos in the heaviest fabric they make in summer. Kevlar in winter. We actually have a riding season up here. Many people park their bikes up from December to March to avoid the heat and rain. I can't do that! I ride any weather. Great channel, I'll sub!

It felt nice having you reappear on my youtube algo man! Your bike is looking very nice now with the apes + windscreen, and of course that color. I like your take on the renegade seat, I got the step-up TR and I'm not convinced about its comfort for both rider and passenger (this is with the added gel padding option too). I will be changing to mustang seats eventually. Safe riding Paul!

They are loud, for sure, but I don't find it an issue as I usually use ear plugs for wind noise. Even without ear plugs they are tolerable when cruising along at a steady pace. When you open her up though they are loud which I think is a good thing as people know you're there. @@BikesILike

I'm interested in the chief models. However, the only dealer in Canberra does not and says likely will not in future have demo bike available to test. Also, they seem to be available only in boring black or ugly red from dealerships. It seems to me that Indian isn't overly keen in making their product appealing to prospective customers. Might as well just spend the money on customising my 2018 Triumph t120 instead.

I’m 20 years old sitting at about 6’2” 205 I’m not sure if this I a well known problem but I feel like I can’t find a big enough bike, I’ve sat on the scout bobber and it felt too small, what bike would you recommend from Indian?
@BikesILike
@BikesILike 5 месяцев назад
Scout Bobber Twenty is better for a taller rider. Don't forget you can get extended forward controls as well as extended reach seats for the entire Scout range. To be truly comfortable on any bike, you will need to add mods. Having said that, I'm 6'1" and found the Standard Scout to be very comfortable, even with the stock seat and pegs. I find the Chief Dark Horse comfortable configured in the setup I have, even with the mid controls. But everyone is different and what works for me might not work for you. At your height you will be more comfortable with higher bars, keep that in mind too.

How close is your dealership to your home? The one major factor for me here in Canada is the lack of Indian dealers, especially compared to the other American brand. My wife and I test rode a Challanger and loved it, but the nearest dealer to us is two and a half hours away, compared to less than one to our local Bar and Shield. Big factor when dropping 30k on a motorcycle.
@BikesILike
@BikesILike 6 месяцев назад
I get it. It's does sour the experience when you need to travel so far for servicing, accessories and parts. Fortunately for me, my dealer is only about 10 minutes away.

I have 60 minutes to ride to service. Do you guys think it would harm motorcycle engine after winter storage to ride it with the oil sitting all winter in bike until next oil change service or should ride to the service immediately? I let them to change oil filter and oil on last september and after that got over 1400 km riding distance before putting it to storage and bike is sitting in cold garage, battery removed, tires inflated to as recommended on the manual and some wood placed under kickstand to make bike sitting upright and covered. sry for grammar errors, not my first language. all help and advices are appreciated, ride safe!

Hi,a bit of a silly question, but how tall are you? I have one, I’m 5’8” (172.72 cm) I’ve put the forward controls and was thinking of putting taller handlebars and like you I’m getting a little bit of pain in my right shoulder. When I had a victory Vegas I did put custom made mini apes and I loved how it felt and rode. Did you fit the handlebars your self?
@BikesILike
@BikesILike 6 месяцев назад
Sorry Andy, you're right I should've mentioned my height. I was going to add it into the video with a test overlay but then completely forgot! I'm 6'1".
@BikesILike
@BikesILike 6 месяцев назад
Yes, I did fit the handlebars myself. When you buy a genuine Indian product, Indian provide detailed install instructions. To get the instructions you simply enter the part no into the Indian Motorcycle website and you can download full install instructions as a PDF. Having said that it is a fairly involved process which includes bleeding brakes etc. and there are a couple of errors in the install instructions that you need to be aware of. An example is, the instructions tell you to twist off the left (clutch side) grip with a rubber strap wrench. But this is not necessary as there is a small grub screw which holds that grip on. Twisting it off would damage the grip, in my opinion. Only tackle this project if you a very confident and comfortable working on your bike. For reference, Indian recommends this be installed by the dealer.

@@BikesILike thank you, I fitted the forward controls my self and they came with a new master cylinder so I too had to bleed the brakes.

Isn't it less fuel efficient to ride it on fifth gear until reaching 100 km/h? I change to 6th gear after reaching over 80 km/h
@BikesILike
@BikesILike 6 месяцев назад
My fuel economy is still good. It depends on how your bike is geared. For my Chief, it's ticking over at around 2,000 rpm in sixth gear. Lugging an engine by riding it too low in the rev range will cause long term engine damage. I want this engine to last a long time. ;)
@Carljohnson09
@Carljohnson09 5 месяцев назад
@@BikesILike What's considered to be low rpm for each gear? Suggestions are appreciated. For so far I've downshifted gears somewhere at 1000-1500 rpm or if i hear engine starting lugging. And I'm surprised that you got 4.7 l/100km. When I did my first 800 km break in.. I got 5.6 l/100km. I upshifted and downshifted gears just like what the manual suggested. Had touring mode selected.. was pretty easy on throttle and was using engine braking instead of using actual brakes. But after services I noticed how my fuel economy got worse and worse.. up to nearly 6.9 l/100km.. that was late november and then the weather got colder and roads slippery, so I decided to put it for winter storage. Also did not change oil and oil filter when putting it to storage.. was planning to do it after storage and had over 2000 km milage.. next oil change is at 4000 km.. should I wait and ride 4000 km and then let the oil changed or should I ride to the service which is something between 60-65 km away and nothing happens to the engine? Thanks and ride safe!
