Sir mai mitter gudge train ka bhut bada fen hu mai aksar apne dada ji ke saath churu se depalsar ki yatra krta tha kafi mja aata tha us time
My father also worked as divisional driving instructor DDI in southern railway. He started his career as second fireman in steam loco. Then promoted as driver. Was driving diesel locomotives at time of his retirement. Proud to be son of a railway man
Indian metre gauge trains pulled by steam locomotives were very different. These trains at that time connected remote areas of the country. I recall Jodhpur Mail, Ahmedabad Mail from Delhi and host of other trains.
Great. I managed 3 trips to India to see steam, the Meter gauge was always the best. Not sure why, just something about it. Amazing country, happy memories.
Now 96% network is broad gauge & 86% is electrified. So no steam, no diesel & only Small "Heritage sections" of meter gauge and narrow gauge are remain of old. 😔
In 1958 my first train travel from Trivandrum central to Madras via kollam, punalur ,senkottai Virudunagar ,Madurai Trichy virdhaclam Villipuram Masdras Egmore with My eldest Aunt and her son . An unforgettable journey in meter gauge Train .The ticket then was Rs 16/ Full ticket .when my grandfather was getting hardly Rs 100/ as a mid school teacher . Oh ! Those days unforgettable. Idiot that is a luxury feeling and you should consider urself very lucky not proud....but the real happy and proud feeling is the one who experienced it live on the spot like the person who shot this on camera in 1996 while travelling
Indian Railways (April 2018) Is to preserve 5 of Its Metre-Gauge Lines ... the Visavadar-Talala line in Gujarat(42 km), the Mhow-Patalpani-Kalakand line in Madhya Pradesh (30 km), the Mavli Junction-Marwar Junction line in Rajasthan (162 km), the Nanpur-Mailani line in Uttar Pradesh (171 km) and the Mahur-Harangjao metre-gauge line in Assam (47 km).
It was probably much simpler before the Brits came. Ask anyone from that age, they’d say, it was simpler before the Muslims came. Everything is relative, what you think is cool today may feel nostalgic to your kids.
Such a gem. Never really got the opportunity to travel in a train hauled by steam locos. By the time I grew up it was mostly diesel and electric ruling the tracks already
I m born in 1984.....these were very well in operation till 1995....I have some faded memories of these engines.....I used to get scared when these engines arrived on the platform.....scarry black colour, throwing steam and the fire inside the drivers cabin used to be very much visible from the platform and huge in size
There was no difference while travelling inside the train. But from outside, it was huge firey mighty monster releasing smoke and vapour. Some engines had names. I remember "Akbar" which was associated with Kashi Vishvanath Express.
First time I travelled in middle May 1982 in the Nellai Express, in the metre gauge. Then remembering Bangalore to Miraj, Bangalore to Mysore. Later, from Madurai to Palakaudu or Oddanchathram many a time. It's very easy to move from one compartment to another. Steam engine was my one time experience from Dindigal _ Palakaud in 1987.
Very happy to the Devlopment of Stem engine as when I was loco pilot in the year of 1965/66/67 in meter gauge section pioliting the YB, YP, YL and WD steam engine, no doubt that it was tremendous job, but now Loco pilot life is some extent easy with latest facilities and to run the Engine, but we have to very cocius while pioliting as population explosion is ther and more traffic. Thanks.
Balaji Krishnamurthy these are all types of metre gauge steam locos Pl google Wd and YB and YL class Indian Railways locos and you might find pictures of these locos .
Soumya Kanti Mitra lots of love what a thinking my ancestors were also a part of the Indian railways and I m also a part of this department so I'm glad to you says that comeback of this steam machine
I miss both metre gauge and steam engine. Metre gauge lines have all almost been converted to broad gauge, and what remains is under process of conversion
Bahut Accha video banaya hai. Muje Mera bachpan yad Aa gaya. is trin me mani bhi safar Kiya hai. Us jamane me mobile nahi thi nahi to purani video hum bhi bana late. Vah super video.
Yes the sound of steam engine though scary but always filled me with joy during my childhood days. Now when I am in Trivandrum remaind me of my school summer holidays I board Kerala express from Bhopal to Trivandrum. Now 30 years passed and steam engine is no more. It should be restarted at least for short distance passenger trains.
Very Beautiful Video Bachpan k din yaad aa gaya Childhood memories i miss Steam Engine and Metre Gauge Train mena iss Steam Engine wali Metre Gauge Train mein kai baar Yatra ki hai but aajkal k Bachho ne to Steam Engine wali Metre Gauge Train k bare mein sirf suna hi hoga jabki hamena to issme Yatra bhi ki hai
Gone are those memorable days. 25 years back.!!!! Now the pandemic attacks us everywhere. Young people are losing their lives. Those beautiful days will never come back. Feeling like crying!!
Thanks for capturing as well as uploading the video. You have shown the heritage of Indian Railways in a quite stunning way. Meter Gauge, sadly couldnt stand the test of time. At present, a lot of these erstwhile meter gauge lines have either been converted to broad guage, or are under conversion. Mavli - Marwar and Mhow - Sanawad sections are still operating on meter gauge tracks. They are slated for gauge conversion in the future.
The Great Long distance Meter Gauge Train was Jaipur to Secunderabad Kachiguda Meenakshi Express (Jaipur Ajmer Ratlam Indore Mhow Khandwa Akola Nanded Pourna Junction Zahanabad Medak Secunderabad
I Remember A Train From Hyderabad To Tirupati Metre Gauge Where There Were No Suit Cases Or Back Packs On In The Compartments . Indeed There Were Moolahas And Moothas Kept On Their Heads And Under The Seats . Now We Find Lap Tops And Other Electronics Gadgets. Really It's A Transformed India Now Off Course The Porters Don't Wear Dhotis Now.
I too had traveled from old Delhi to Abu Road sometime in 1991 by Ahmedabad Mail which too was driven by steam engine It was indeed a Very pleasure journey and most enjoyable Almost all trains were driven by steam engine till 1970 and we often used to travel by train those days
