Rear highway bars are an essential part of any bike in case of a low-side crash or tip-over incident. They can protect your bike frame, paint, and accessories. Today I am installing these awesome rear highway bars onto my Indian Chieftain Dark Horse. These bars cost much less than the Indian brand bars, but have the same level of quality, all steel construction, and they come in a flat black paint that matches the Dark Horse perfectly. If you are interested in picking these bars up for your Indian motorcycle, here is the link: amzn.to/2pB8Jfr

What other mods do you plan on doing?
@MOTOBLADE

Need some highway pegs. Going to do the first stage exhaust and air intake. 116 cubic inch conversion. Halo headlights, heated seat and heated grips, speaker lids for saddlebags... the list goes on, I'm planning on doing quite a bit!

No need to take the bags off, Harbor freight has extensions for a few bucks and you’ll always use them for other projects

Didn't have an extension then. I do now. Would have been helpful.

I’m glad you went with that brand. I’ve been looking at few of there products. I wasn’t sure about the quality but looks like it’s just as good as Indians for a much better price.

Agreed. I plan on going all around my bike at some point and swapping all the bolts out for flat or gloss black. Make it extra stealthy 😀 Thanks for watching!

Excellent video. How have the highway bars been holding up for you? They definitely help make it easier to grab a hold of if you ever lay your bike over. I've laid my Chieftain over once because my boot has snow on the bottom and my foot had slipped as I was offloading my bike from my trailer. The only thing that I'm going to correct you on is at 0:30 your ratchet is a 3/8" drive, not a 3/4" drive. I'm surprised that nobody else had caught that.
@MOTOBLADE

Highway bars are still great! Bolts have never loosened up, paint hasn't faded. Was great to strap things to them on my way to Sturgis this past summer. Good catch on the rachet size, thanks!

I went with chrome in the front and flat black in the rear

I have the same brand and the Indian ones , even though 300 dollars are better. Mine were a gloss finish and have faded and look matte now instead of gloss.

What to add some on a scout bobber but know know how good it would look.

Nice video, have your Chieftain ever fallen on the ground? I was practicing sharp turns and my Chieftain fell on the ground, I had some scratches on my crash bars front and rear, do you know how to fix such scratches on the chrome surface?
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 5 лет назад
Never dropped the Chieftain. Did drop my Chief. Some light buffing with a Chrome polish can help, but if the scratches are too deep, the only way is to replace the chrome.

Are they longer than the stock ones because the stock ones dont protect the bottom of the saddlebag from hitting the ground
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 4 года назад
I don't know their exact dimensions compared to the stock ones. They stick out ever so slightly beyond the bags.

Just spray paint the bolts man. I’m looking at after market Hiway bars. Thanks for the link. How many miles you got on your beast?
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 5 лет назад
About 1200 miles right now! Averaging 300 miles a week. I'm having so much fun riding this beast. I wasnt sure at first, but now I'm sold on the TCMT quality, I would definitely get their aftermarket stuff. Save a lot over the cash Indian wants us to pay.

I didn't have a ratchet, so I tried just using a hex key. I got the right side installed, but I absolutely bored out one of the hex bolts on the left side. They're in there really tight. Any ideas as to how I can unscrew that stripped out hex bolt?
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 5 лет назад
My suggestion- Go to the hardware store and get a spiral screw extractor kit. Had to use it for a seat bolt on my old kawasaki bike one time that I cranked to hard. Worked like a charm. Just be careful! Hope that helps!

Wondering if the 1” bar thickness from TCMT vs 1.25” from Indian reduces bag protection or strength in the event of a tip over
@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 2 года назад
I would be interested to know that as well. They're hollow tubes, so my guess would be it wouldn't have much to do with the outer diameter of the bar, but probably to do with the thickness of the tube wall/amount of metal used. Maybe check the weight of these online vs the weight of the Indian ones. More weight (should) mean more material. Non-scientific guess work, but unless someone wants to shove a couple of chieftains over to compare I guess we'll never know 🤣

Yes. The 2018 Springfield DH has them standard. The Chieftain lineup does not, then they come back as standard in the roadmaster lineup.

@MOTOBLADE
@MOTOBLADE 2 года назад
Had them for 3 years now on the Chieftain! Bolts never loosened up, I've strapped weight to them and they never budged or bent. Paint has never flaked, chipped or scratched. I clean my bike by hand with a wet microfiber cloth, never pressure wash, so that could make a difference for some people. 3 years and I like them so far! Hope that helps :)
