So Indiana Jones is one of those franchises that I feel had the perfect ending. After the prequel Temple Of Doom got some backlash at the time, Steven Spielberg wanted to send the character out on a high and that third film was developed as a direct response to the first two. Titled The Last Crusade this would have Indy riding off into the sunset to get what's arguably the perfect ending for a character in Hollywood.
However just like the character couldn't leave the past buried, the studios came in and decided that we needed another one.
enough enough
Spielberg even went on record and said he was unsure about the whole ending involving aliens and you can see they played up the fact that they're interdimensional beings.
The Crystal Skull has a lot of bad feelings around it and it definitely felt like the character went out on his back. However rumours circulated that we'd be getting one more movie and I have to admit when I heard who was attached I started thinking we were back.

16:28, I will say, at least with Crystal Skull, while Henry and Marcus passed and the Red Scare era left Indy being wrongfully suspected of treason to the point of disrupting his teaching career, in every other aspect, Indy repeatedly proves to everyone that doubts him that he isn’t some irrelevant relic nor does he view himself as one. He constantly demonstrates being competent and driven even despite his struggles, most notably in how he while he indirectly mentors Mutt on their journey together. And while he may initially come off as sad and alone, he ends the film with a new family and having come full circle from repairing his strained relationship with his father to developing a relationship with his son (which work well in fitting with Indy’s character arc from the treasure hunter obsessed with fortune and glory to someone who primarily values the people around him. Instead of missing the past, Indy instead finds a shot at a brighter future.

Saw it last night and it was mostly better than i expected. The de-aging was OK but at times it looked like Nathan Drake in Uncharted (PS3 version). And yes it answered the questions of what happened to Marion and his Son but he grabs the hat at the end! So does that mean we havnt seen the last of him? He's in his 80s!?! Indy 6 will probably be him slightly de-aged and travelling back to Vietnam to save Mutt 😂

I've no idea why people hate the ending, Indy thought he had nothing left in 1969, but his goddaughter knew about Marion, she made things right for Indy( as she understands loneliness since her father passing and no one being there for her) and that's perfect ending in my book.

Just left the theater. Harrison ford still has it. He is Indiana. That said, this movie was not needed. I went in with low expectations and I feel I didn’t set them low enough. Phoebes character seems not phased by anything happening. Never scared or shocked. Even in the end shots. Then to suddenly care for Jones in the end after shitting all over him. I think the way she treated Jones sums up the movie. They shit on his character but then felt It necessary to try to save the franchise. The similarities of how they handled Han solo are uncanny. Broken man, lost son, causes stress on relationship with wife. Goes back to old life. Comes off washed up. It all comes off as shit writing. I feel it was written by a committee. I left feeling the way I did with the force awakens. Happy to see my hero but sad to see how they handled it. 😢

I saw it yesterday and it was fun. Sure, no as good as Raiders and Crusade, but just as fun as Doom, at least for me and the people I saw it with. This another instance of a movie that’s better than what critics or RU-vidrs say. The Last Crusade was the perfect ending for the franchise. But we all know that in a capitalist economy dependent on consumerism nothing never really ends. These type of movies are cash grabs for the studios, but that’s not always the case for the artists (directors, actors, writers, etc). When I watch these movies I tune down my cynicism and tune up my suspension of disbelief. At the end of the day, anyone that dislike this film can ignore it in the future and just watch the original trilogy. It is not that complicated.

The continental drift didn't lead them to 2000. years in the past, the dial was designed to always take you there. It was forshadowed with the "forced deck", ie you think you're choosing a card (or time) but you're actually always going to get the one the magician wants. Archimedes says "you were always going to meet me" and one of them says the dial was a call for help.

It's a good to honest end for Indy as a character rather than Crystal Skull in my opinion. The movie contains a lot of the hallmarks of the franchies and I honestly wish people stopped putting unreasonable expectations on this film. 1989 was a while ago and it's 2023. And as far as I can say this film is a diamond amongst the other crappy films out here.

Good review; I agree with more here than I've seen with other reviews. As a huge Indy fan, I enjoyed being back in the universe. So, while I can point out some things I might would have liked done differently...overall, I thought it was definitely worth watching and better than Crystal Skull. On that note, why does a film have to "justify its existence"? This phrase was mentioned more than once and, while I see that being a consideration for the financiers and the studio....as a movie-goer, I don't understand the question. The justification for any film (from the consumer standpoint) is to be entertaining and/or thought-provoking. That's why we go to the theater. This film was definitely entertaining; I don't think anyone could objectively say otherwise. That's all the justification required, I think. Great video

I also had low expectations going into seeing it. While I knew that it would be better than Crystal Skull or even Temple of Doom, I knew that it could not capture the shear brilliance of Raiders and Last Crusade, which are masterpieces. The opening sequence is definitely the best part of the film, as we see Indy killing and beating up nazis, unlike in Crystal Skull where Indy doesn’t even fire a gun once. The best part about the movie, just like it’s predecessors is, of course Indiana Jones himself: Harrison Ford. Despite his age, really gives it his all in this and still brings a lot of charm and charisma to the role he was born to play. The film itself is a bit long, and I found myself almost nodding off when it got slow, but overall it is entertaining even if the adventure is not on par with raiders or last crusade. However, it’s not nearly as bad as a lot of the people on RU-vid made it out to be. And if this is in fact Indy’s final adventure, at least he left off on a good note.

Disagree. The movie overall was great! Everything leading up to Act 3 and the reveal of where they were was super entertaining. Indy had some of his most emotional moments ever on screen - not wanting to face the future and just live in the past (which says a lot about this and many other reviews IMO). Better than Doom or Skull but not as good as Raiders or Crusade. Dial fits nicely in between and my friends and I loved it 💕

Okay first of all, they literally stated in the movie that Archemeds set the dial to send them to that moment in time no matter what to help them in the siege. secondly even if they tried to deliver a message 2000 years into the future warning of mutts death in Vietnam, its highly unlikely that would work and it could mess with the timeline. I'm gonna go watch the original three and cry now Edit: he's in GREAT shape for being 80 years old, looked strong enought to pull the ears off a gundark

I'm so shocked at all the negative reviews about this movie. Don't believe any of these hype train bad reviews! These click thirsty influencers are just copy/pasting these review videos for cash views. I didn't want to go see it myself after watching all the bad reviews and how all the theatres were empty etc. But my wife dragged me there tonight. I was blown away at how good this movie was. Absolutely none of the negative reviews were accurate. The CGI was good, the characters were well developed, Ford's performance was just as exciting as all the other movies and he's fkn 80! Dude's body is solid muscle omfg. These influencer first reviews are not from qualified film critics, they don't know the first thing about film history or what solid writing/directing is about. This movie completely delivered on all fronts. Definitely one of the last great adventure movies we'll get. I'm no fan of Disney trust me, but this movie is not bad it's even very very good. The effect these trigger happy negative reviews have had on the movie is tragic. Just go see it yourself, trust me you'll be happy you did.

We saw the movie this weekend and enjoyed it. It was good entertainment, and I’m glad we saw it it in the theater. Harrison Ford is always great, and I’m amazed he can do the amount of physical action at his age, hell, at any age. All the actors did a great job. My only real critique would be the chase scene in the cabs/cars went on way too long. There were so many chase scenes that it got exhausting. And the time travel bit was a little hokey. Not as bad as the aliens in the Crystal Skull, but stretching it a bit towards the unbelievable. I’m with you on Hollywood needing to come up with new characters and ideas. And I don’t mean comic book characters!!! I’m sick of superhero crap. I love the historical archaeology stories. Do that. Too bad they used Shia LaBeauf as his son and then killed him in Vietnam. A “Son of Indy” spin-off would’ve been good.

Saw Dial of Destiny last night and I actually loved it. They captured the magic of the originals. Indiana Jones has never been great. They aren’t going to win crazy awards or anything, but they’re FUN. They’re just FUN. And there’s nothing wrong with that. And this one was just that. It was FUN. Tons of references and call backs to the original movies, lots of fun action, comparatively good story, just a good Indiana Jones. They did what made Indiana Jones good in the first place, Indy globe trotting looking for ancient/mystical artifacts, soling mystery, and punching Nazis. Nothing wrong with that.

@@BlyatBlaster brunette lady is a typical KK insert. Brunette feminist who can't do no wrong, the movie is a series of fetch quests ( the dagger in RoS comes to mind. Mads Mikkelson teleports to whatever location his character is needed at the time. "Oh but they made references to the older movies it's so good" of course they did it's in the same universe. Y'all let nostalgia shut off your brain to what's actually decent cinema.

I'm pretty sure that the paradox in the Bootstrap paradox is with regards to the information which allows the loop to exist. In your example it would be the origins of the book; at what point was it written, if its very existence depends on its very existence?

I know the death of his son was an interesting idea. But I wish they could have brought him back. Whether it is a letter he sends back in time that travels to him, and prevents him from dying. Or something. Idk.

I liked it, I thought it was good, nothing ground breaking but a solid Indiana Jones movie. I liked the nod to the third film as they had the same picture of Christ and the grail in Indies apartment as was in Last Crusade. Three will always be the best and four the worst but I found this a good enough send off.

Well, the scene with him grabbing his hat at the end just goes to show that there will be a continuation of the Indiana Jones universe just with Harrison Ford's character possibly as a cameo. I don't particularly like the girl taking over the job. His son would've been a good one to pass the torch to just as his father passed his life's work on to Indy. I know Shia has been in trouble over the years, but don't write the guy out entirely. Just say that he went off to war in Vietnam and leave it at that. Leaves the door open for the character (maybe not the same actor) to return to the role and take over the Indiana Jones adventures. Indiana Jones has explored different western cultures, but they've yet to do anything for the Asian history and culture. I always thought doing an adventure in Southeast Asia would've been a perfect Indiana Jones location because one of the running gags is he's afraid of snakes. Southeast Asia they're practically everywhere. Also, Asia has a lot of mysterious ancient history along with lost artifacts.

Paul, I went to see Indy 5 yesterday in all its full IMAX and I have to say its become my 3rd fav out of the franchise. I loved the opening and yes mid way though I was looking at my watch but over all I loved all the old guard appearing, Phoebe was excellent and yes some of her action may not have been really needed but over all it was a great (hopefully) final capture. I honestly don't want to see a 90yr old Harrison Ford bring Indy back as I cant see it working LOL. I gave its a solid 3.5/5

Just saw it tonight and it was a very solid Indiana Jones film. It really captured the feel of the older ones. Especially with him going to the roots and fighting Nazis.. which became cringy neo-Nazis. Especially in the end! Poor Nazis, they thought they're very close, but they're actually very, very, very far.
