2:21 Mac: "Don't get clever, Boris! You don't know- Know him! Know him! You don't know him!! YOU DON'T KNOW HIM!! YOU DONT KNOW HIIIIM!! *YOU DON'T KNOOOWWWW-!!!* "
This movie was not that bad, the worst part was the nuclear blast but other than that I really liked the story. It truly fits the theme of the 1950s compared to the others of the 1930s era. Multidimensional beings, telepathy & psychic abilities, Russians vs. Americans, Eisenhower, greasers. This had everything.
I would say the worst part is the CGI. There’s way too much of it, and it gives the film a very artificial look/feel. It’s ironic that the original trilogy looks better than this movie.
@@joshdietrich5080 I'll agree to that. CGI will always lose to practical with audience connection because at the end of the day people always know it's real, even with a cheap explosion.
@@joshdietrich5080 There wasn't a lot of CGI besides the nuke and the jungle chase. Compared to how Marvel movies are made, this film is filmed old school.
Indiana's line, "I Like Ike" (also visible on the bomb above the test town) uses the popular slogan created by Peter G. Peterson (Commerce Secretary for Richard Nixon) for the "Draft Eisenhower movement" in 1952, the first political draft to persuade a private citizen (Dwight D. Eisenhower) to run for the Presidency. When filming the scene where Indiana drives a truck through a wall, things did not go as planned. Timed explosives were used, but one explosive did not go off, and landed in the seat next to Harrison Ford. During the Hangar 51 scene, the theme for the Ark of the Covenant from Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) is heard when the Ark makes its brief appearance. Translation from Russian to English My Precious Catch up him! Catch up him! Catch up him! Catch up! Catch up him faster! Quickly he is not to get out of here alive! Block the exits!
I think this movie is underrated. Lucas and Spielberg were trying to change it up to be more like a pulpy sci-fi b movie then an adventure serial. It didn’t work everywhere (particularly the fridge) but I think it’s a fun movie and I appreciate that Lucas and Spielberg were trying to do something different.
I like what the little plain said. Lucas wanted to emulate the B movies of the 40s and 50s. He needed someone to put a hand on his shoulder and say "there was a reason why those films were B movies"
1:36 How anyone can watch this and not at least break a sentimental smile is beyond me… Spielberg and Lucas brought him back, one last time. It was never going to be on the level of the first three. So what?
Despite being old, he was more badass in this movie than dial of destiny. I know hes a lot more older in dial of destiny but man they couldve done better
This was the best scene in the film - felt closest to the original series. The cinematography was also better than the remainder of the film where the backdrops just looked distractingly fake.
@Alpha Leader 42 you're wrong, as you can see, Indy drops his gun, shooting Dovchenko's foot. Dovchenko is actually the one who yells in pain, not a random Soviet soldier.
Not my favorite but I still like it quite a bit. I honestly prefer it to Temple of Doom, though all four movies are pretty solid. My personal ranking would be: 1. Last Crusade 2. Raiders 3. Crystal Skull 4. Temple of Doom We'll see where Dial of Destiny lands when it comes out in June.
@@Kpengie I mostly agree however I really enjoy Temple Of Doom. It’s down to the bombastic epic adventurous soundtrack, memorable set pieces and Indy’s arc. And it’s literally a battle against the purest of evils. Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, I ultimately like down to its 1950s sci fi homages.
@@TGM_Productions I find that Temple of Doom drags for a lot of its runtime personally, and it has aged the worst out of the series for a number of reasons. I still like the movie, but it's my least favorite in the series.
When I first saw this back in '08 it was a fun moment watching this I absolutely loved it I just dial of destiny just didn't have that same excitement and spark like this
I didn’t particularly care about the fridge scene- he would be dead and all but, the movie was still solid. Compared to the new one, I’d say this movie is pretty damn solid
You know what the more i watch this the more i like it, and that's not me forcing myself to like it either because im in love with the franchise, apart from the aliens this film has brilliant pop ups and that nostalgia about it, even tho it was 15 years ago. Great back up characters like ox and mac, and a good villon...didn't think mutt was that bad either.
the funny thing is the m1 carbine doctor jones throws on the ground is notorious for being fucking dangerous af its safety is just a little push pin that many many soldiers accidently pushed in and shot by accident
The editiing is kinda good actually. At 1:49, instead of showing how 60+ yo Ford pretends to hit those folks, movie just cuts to them getting kicked out. Doesn't look too pretentious and fits the pace. Gotta rewatch the movie.
The thing with Mack's character really broke my heart. The film's excuse for his motivation to do that was lame. Years and years and years of friendship, trust and adventure tossed out the window in an instant. It's just as bad as what they did to Tyrion in the final season of GoT, where this brilliant man became an idiot. Ruining characters and character dynamics for shock and awe is never good writing.
We did, actually. LEDs were "invented" a few times, the earliest by British engineer H.J. Round in 1907, and dot matrix displays like this were used in (very expensive) lab equipment by 1951 (the dot matrix displays were later replaced with cheaper seven-segment displays). This movie takes place in 1957, so they'd have been around for a while by then.
I think only test sights and space programs used digital timers, I'm not really sure if the jets that the germans used around the end of World War II had them as well?
When I first watched this film, I was getting excited. I thought the Russians were looking for the Ark of the covenant, not an Alien Dead Corpse. Did no one realize W While writing the script that gives the Ark of the covenant, a quick second cameo was just going to make people mad 😠.
If I calmly analyze what doesn't make these scenes work, it's that there is to much happing in 4 minutes film. That makes it unrealistic. Indy seems unbreakable and taps everyone on the face without any effort. Exactly something we didn't see in Raiders. Each fight was long, painfully full of setbacks. Think of the bar fight in Nepal or the flying wing fight in Egypt. It's a huge mistake by Steven and Lucas.
At 1:39, that's when I knew there was going to be a problem with the film. I always loved the sound of Indy's bullwhip. In the teaser trailer, at this point, the whip sounds loud and sharp. So, I was pretty disappointed being in the movie theater, and as this scene was coming up, Indys running on the top of the boxes, he grabs his whip, and I'm saying, "Let me hear that whip. Let me hear that whip." And 1:39 comes up, you can barely hear it. It sounds like a stick hitting metal with the sound of the stupid bullets flying by. Yeah. That was when I knew the movie wasn't going to be all that. It's okay.
Coming from someone who tries their best with video projects/game things I've done to balance out audio to immerse the audience as much as possible and have your ears lock onto certain scenes, I find it hilarious that the creaking metal of the lamp is actually louder than the wip and at no point in time from switching camera angles does the creaking sound ever decrease in volume. A class act in how to ruin a scene with sound design, the loudest things should have been gun-shot reverb, ricochet and OF COURSE the wip. Not even factoring in the iconic that is the wip sound, the fact it's that low when it's that close makes no sense. Maybe they were going for something more light since technically his wip is just grabbing onto something rather than being popped but even then based on what they put in the final film it just sounds like a low-cut-off pop. At least in the trailers for Indy 5, the wip sounds loud, they even added some nice bass to it so if it's mastered like that for theaters then it's going to really boom and pop.
