Hey Jeff! Yeah, RU-vid took down my page Sunday due to a security risk, and they're still trying to get everything restored. 😡😡😡 As of now, you can only find things on the Playlists or by searching directly (unless you're watching the videos on the television app, apparently, whatever sense that makes). I talked to them again last night, and they're still working on it. Sorry for the problems :(

This was my favorite episode because of the father son aspect and knowing when to “let it go”. Also the temple in the canyon is a real place in a Jordan called Petra. It’s actually carved into the cliff side. Awesome movie and review!

23:45 This place is located in Petra, Jordan and I was lucky enough to see it in person. It was amazing! 23:53 Off to the left & behind Marc's head, if you pause it at the right moment, you can actually see a set of stairs that's carved into the rock.

I went decades ago( like right after they filmed the movie) but I will never forget how I felt going through the narrow rock crevasse then suddenly, just like the movie, it opens up and you see the Khaznah (If I'm remembering the name correctly...it has been a long time) but the awesomeness I will never forget! Good movie pick David!☺

@@spooniesworld I went there in '07 and they had just found a level below the "temple" and were excavating it. From what we were told we were actually standing at a lower height than when the movie was filmed because they'd cleared out a lot of the sand. Our guide timed it so we came in just as the sun was hitting the façade as we came out of the cavern. It was beautiful! Did they have the aqueducts uncovered when you went through?

@@naiaddore1797 To be honest I'm not sure...it was over 30 years ago when I went with my parents. So we had more of the light walking tour with a private guide. I would love to return someday.

So btw, I'm sure somebody has already said, but the structure in the "Canyon of the Crescent Moon" from the movie is truly only a façade, but not a set at all. That's the ancient ruins at the City of Petra in Jordan, one of the oldest cities in the world. There have been inhabitants in that settled area since at least 7000 BCE. It was part of the early Fertile Crescent around the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, the accepted birthplace of civilization. Petra as a settlement dates to latter barbarism and nomadic hunter-gatherers, thousands of years before writing was invented. Those people helped create the idea of cities and civilization. Not a minor landmark. Fyi.

This week on Fun Facts With David, "Nazis are stupid". Connery made this movie, the jokes are so groan but so fun. Love how each movie is "it's a myth....it's real" You mentioned buying Nazi stuff....one time I did a Dexter themed photoshoot...man did I look suspicious buying everything for it lol. Fun fact: Petra, the canyon city, flourished in ancient times. There was a lot of greenery, basically an oasis in the middle of the desert at the crossroads of trade routes. They had channels cut into the rock, even into the walls like pipes, that collected water from all over. Water was stored in huge sisterns around the city.

Another great Harrison movie y'all might react to, if ya haven't already, is The Fugitive. Also stars Tommy Lee Jones. Speaking of if you ever want to react to an awesome western he stars in The Missing along with Cate Blanchette. It's really good.. As always, great fun reaction from you guys. I remember it came out the same year as In the Line of Fire, and both TLJ and John Malkovich were nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Even though I thought JM was AWESOME, I wasn't mad that TLJ won. Just like in Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back, Mark Hamill had a very bad car accident before shooting the movie. You can see his face looks different from the surgery. @@DavidvsFilm I had an unusual childhood. My father for over a decade ran medical labs in hospitals in Saudi Arabia from early 80's into the 90's. So my parents had a different type of marriage...kinda like a military one where most of the time we lived here in the states while daddy lived abroad but we would travel to see him or he would come home for about 6 weeks then return back to Saudi. One year I lived there with mom and dad while she was on sabbatical from teaching and healing from breast cancer. So I had some mind changing experiences seeing different cultures...like having my 13th bday in India(we were there for about a month)...or spreading my toes in the water with mom at the Dead Sea in Jordan and many other amazing, historically impressive places like Petra. I do wish I had appreciated more of the privilege I was experiencing, at that point in my life I was a bit of an ass to my parents and just wanted to be a regular teenager at the mall with my friends shopping at the Gap or Nordstroms talking about boys! But no...I was the only American girl in a four hour radius and not allowed to go to the local girls school(even after my father got permission from the director) I showed up for my first day(wearing my veil etc...all you could see was my face and shiny braces) but was told I could not attend. They didn't understand why I would want to go because I didn't know Arabic. My parents tried explaining that I would learn it faster being immersed everyday and that I would pick it up quickly. They stilled refused. Apparently they were potentially afraid of my american influence on their young Saudi girls. I often wonder what that small little village looks like now...I googl earthed it recently and was shocked that it had a McDonalds! I would have killed for a cheeseburger back then! It has grown quite a bit since 1988!( but to be clear...I am forever 34...ok?!?)😜😄Ok...done rambling about my early traveling days. As an adult I have only been to a couple other countries like Mexico and Mallorca. I have so many other places I'd like to see and explore...even here in the states...I've only visited around 10.

The thing with props is a lot of them are stored at prop warehouses that rent out props to films and theaters. So getting a hold of some things isn't really that hard. Some things like the massed nazi flags and banners were CGI'd in because of how many were needed. Special weapons/tools/items are made by hand and rubber replicas cast and painted. Costumes are of course handmade. If you check out Adam Savages Tested channel he shows how a LOT of props are made. Including some close up looks at actual movie props from a series he does with an auction house that deals in movie memorabilia.

Oh btw, they've filmed an Indy 5. But I was reading that it's not getting good audience feedback. So now they're debating whether to release it in theaters or Disney+. Just goes to show that sometimes they shouldn't try to bring back a franchise. Especially when the main star has gotten older and has a major injury during filming.

Hi guys :) Did u hear of Otto Rahn ? He was German archeologist who was so obsessed with finding Graal that he sold his soul to A.H. regime in 30s. He believed that the knight templars found Graal in Jerusalem. He could be the historical prototype of Indiana Jones with the exeption that he worked for the bad guys. But he was probably asasinated becouse he wanted to leave SS ranks.
@DavidvsFilm
@DavidvsFilm Год назад
Hey Tallis! No I hadn’t heard of him but that’s interesting. I really love these kind of movies that get into this type of history and tell great stories.
@TallisKeeton
@TallisKeeton Год назад
@@DavidvsFilm I think that Rahn was one of those guys who created Ahnenerbe Insitute. But he was not one of the main bosses of it. It was sort of scientific academy for archeology, anthropology, history and biology but with their sick ideological twist - its main goal was to gain proof for the existence of ancient "higher race" of Aryans - ancestors of Germans. For me the funny thing is that their sick ideology completely avoided the fact that their "Aryans" were also ancestors of "lesser races" like us, Slavs. :) Aryans was those group of cultures whose origins archeology can trace about 4.5 K years ago on euroasiatic steppes and whom we today can call Indoeuropeans - they are real, they are ancestors of most of European nations via ancient tribes ( Celts, Germans, Slavs and Baltics, Greeks, Romans, Persians, Scytians, Sarmatians - the last 3 mostly settled in steppes clime east of what you can call "classical" Europe ), they got similar DNA (you and I, we all have one of two haplogroups - R1a or R1b - "a" is mostly in Slavic areas and Hindu areas, "b" is in Celtic and Germanic areas - probably you have "b" and I have "a" - as I m 95% Slavic and 5% Baltic, and you probably are partly Anglosaxon or Celtic in the terms of DNA. One of interesting features of Slavic DNA which was descendant of Yamnaya culture - steppe, nomadic culture of bronze age 4.5 K years ago - is our ability to digest raw milk, which is very popular feature in Slavic areas. I dont know how it was with Celtic and Germanic populations with this topic but we can drink raw milk ok :) ) So these peoples come to Europe and to India from steppes between Black Sea and Ural mountains. There were at least two versions of this migration - in one theory it was big invasion, or set of big invasions (even genocide) through centuries, on the European and Indian neolithic populations (it was neolithic farmers vs. nomadic hunters with chariots and bronze weapons - so the effect could be one only I suppose). The other theory tells that it was more like set of slow migrations and two populations mixed with probably the elite of eastern "horse-lords" intermarried with neolithic elite. I guess that both are probable even though what I know about history of religion and comparative mythology tells me that the two elites met and merged not only as marriages but also mixed their religions. It was like warrior sun gods married godesses of earth and water :) So the genocidal theory is a bit overrated - if you are able to erase a population to near extinction why merging your cult places and pantheons ? The most eastern group of those languages which was found was Tocharian - they were white, red-haired ppl (their mummies were found) who lived in northern China between the borders of Khazahstan and Mongolia over 3 K year ago - around the same time when Mycaenian Greeks battled Troy and when biblical Hebrews battled Kananites. And they were similar in languages. Today Indoeuropean linguistic studies study the origins of words - tracing them from modern languages to the proto-indoeuropean language from 4 - 5 tousands year ago - every particular linguistics - English, German, Slavic etc... is part of the study of Indoeuropean language. There is also comparative study of Indoeuropean myths. And thats my new hobby for now :) AFAIR the group who got these languages American science call Caucasians or whites. But they are not superhuman race of which those IIWW psychos dreamed to find. :D
@TallisKeeton
@TallisKeeton Год назад
@@DavidvsFilm Oh, gee :D I never realised it - Graal is very interesting object when we consider its connection to common tropes from many IE myths. There is that triadic Dumezilian structure of every Indoeuropean myth (and later fairytale). Every tribe, hero, pantheon, task, or story got this triadic scheme. The law of European peoples knew 3 classes (clergy/mages, kings/warriors and pleb, or clergy and kings in 1th function and warriors in 2d function) Its like in the story of 3 brothers from "Harry Potter". These brothers are version of Indoeuropean triad :) - one brother sinned against divine order (he wanted to conquer death), second brother sinned against honor of warrior, of protector, as in his pride he killed and usurped the power of another (he wanted to be most powerful), 3d brother was humble guy - as 3d function heroes were usualy plebeians or gods and heroes from lawer class or gods and godesses most friendly toward lower classes - and so he accepted both gifts of life and his mortality, so he was awarded by long life. 1th function, 2d function and 3d function. The newest appearance of the ancient Triad in popculture is LOTR - Gandalf, Aragorn and Frodo. :) And in many mythologies we can find a sacred object - like Celtic cauldron or chalice. It can be traced to archaic cults much older than Greeks or Celtic druids - in which there is some sacred drink (it can be wine, or some herbal narcotics) or god's food or sacrificial ritual with the use of food and drink. It was in Celtic areas in druidic cult, Greeks got their ambrosia, but it was also in Indian cults and in Persian and Scytian cults (Zoroastrian religion). In Indian cults it was "soma" in Persia it was "haoma". Todays main European religion has sacred "body of God" as main ritual - Graal is a chalice connected to God or rather a chalice for God's blood. Christ blood. Christ is the epitome of all 3 functions - 1th God as Logos, 2d son of God - as warrior, 3d son od God as life-giver (giver of salvation of soul - new life for the soul), and sacrificicial lamb. But Graal is connecting all parts of the Indoeuropean triad - it is a gift or sacrifice from God so it belongs to 1th function of the Dumezilian triad, (the function to which belongs all things divine, its about Logos, magic, visionary, 1th function is for priesthood, and for mages and for seers) but it is a chalice or cauldron so it belongs to 3d function of the Dumezilian triad, the function of fertility, food, natural beauty, Earth godesses, marriage, family, sexuality, of farming and giving and sharing, the function of productiveness and creativeness (not only of food for body but also for soul - like art and music). And it is pursued by brave heroes of 2d function od the triad - warriors and kings.

@@DavidvsFilm so… I couldn’t stop thinking about it and went on a little Wikipedia hunt. I’m not religious but I love learning the “lore” of different religions. According to Wikipedia: “The initialism INRI represents the Latin inscription IESVS NAZARENVS REX IVDÆORVM (Iesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaeorum), which in English translates to "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews" (John 19:19).” And “In the New Testament, Pilate writes "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews" as a sign to be affixed to the cross of Jesus. John 19:21 states that the Jews told Pilate: "Do not write King of the Jews" but instead write that Jesus had merely claimed that title, but Pilate wrote it anyway.[13] Pilate's response to the protest is recorded by John: "What I have written, I have written." After the trial by Pilate and after the flagellation of Christ episode, the soldiers mock Jesus as the King of Jews by putting a purple robe (that signifies royal status) on him, place a Crown of Thorns on his head, and beat and mistreat him in Matthew 27:29-30, Mark 15:17-19 and John 19:2-3”
