Best line of the film was improvised by the great Sean Connery. When Indy asks his Dad how he knew Elsa was a Nazi, Sean's reply of 'She talks in her sleep...' was unscripted. Harrisons double take was genuine and then the crew burst out laughing. Spielberg called cut and announced "well.. that's staying in !"
@christhornycroft3686
@christhornycroft3686 11 месяцев назад
Those moments can be the best, because they reactions are genuine. Like in Blazing Saddles after Sheriff Bart is called the n word by a woman and Jim reminds him that these are simple people: “you know, morons.” Cleavon Little’s laugh is genuine because he doesn’t see it coming. It’s a shame they never made another movie together.

As for the whole name of God part, remember, these were texts, and probably traps, created by people during the Crusades(at least in the context of the film), which means it would have been Christians who would have had Latin as their shared language for religious texts.
@MovieJoob
@MovieJoob 11 месяцев назад
You're absolutely right I didn't think of it from the time context of the crusades as opposed to the time context of christ!
@saltybulldog3241
@saltybulldog3241 11 месяцев назад
@@MovieJoob The time of christ the scriptures were written in greek. The jehovah spelt with an I was the latin translation of that used by the crusaders. Jehovah is a name going back a long time and was originally written in Hebrew as יְהֹוָה‎ Yəhōwā" in the old testament (jewish religion meaning "I am"). So those other names you mentioned such as Allah are completely different peoples/religions.

25:55 Actually, I don't think it should have been Arabic : They say at the beginning that the 3 brothers who found the Grail were knights from the First Crusades. These 3 knights are most likely to have been the ones who brought the Grail here and designed these 3 trials. At the time, people from noble lineage (such as lords, knights and kings) spoke latin.

Indy's age: There was a TV series in the 1990's, "The Indiana Jones Chronicles", where the stories about his adventures are being told by an elderly but vital Indy, in his 80's or 90's.

The humor is really amped up for those of us old enough to remember Sean Connery as James Bond. He always had the humor (the one liners in Bond films) but was so funny to see a guy best known as action star / super spy as a hapless academic. As others have said, the grail was moved during the time of the crusades - hence the knight, hence the Latin rather than Aramaic or Greek during or just after the time of Christ.

Great reaction - 13:35-13:45 "She talks in her sleep" - your response to this is amazing - is this the funniest 10 seconds on RU-vid? First your head tilts, then the eyes pop open and the eyebrows shoot up, "fffwhut? whatdijizlepreiha?" Then you lift yourself off the chair and swivel in the air "chee-hee-heez ...", and then it takes another 5 seconds to recover "oh go-ho-hod" - Priceless - make a short video of this lovely Chaplin moment lol

@26:41 The effect of the Holy Grail is only active as long as the drinker stays within the temple grounds. That’s why the other two knights have long since passed away by the time of this film whereas the old knight within the temple remained alive nearly 900 years later.
@mostvaluableproduction

The reason for Latin at the end was the fact that knights from the Crusades set up the traps. The Catholic Church of that time leaned heavily on Latin.

That reveal near the end that the name Indiana came from their dog is a nice trivia reference. George Lucas wrote the script for the first one, and that was his dog's name.

The young Indy sequence is amazing because in Steven Spielberg’s autobiographical “The Fabelmans” a circus train was shown to be at the core of his filmmaking obsession.

26:40 Nah the effects of the Grail only extend as far as the Great Seal. It was a somewhat quick and easy to overlook line from the knight "That is the price of immortality"
@ivaneames4354
@ivaneames4354 11 месяцев назад
The knight never said the Grail wouldn't work past the seal, only that you couldn't take it past it. Elsa tried and the temple collapsed. Also as I recall, the immortality was only temporary. You had to drink from the Grail every day to maintain it. That was why the Knight was now so old and weak, he hadn't been using the Grail enough.

I knew you'd like this one! I still hold the 1st one as the best of the franchise...but #3 comes close. And it's true...I'm one of those "old" guys who remember seeing these in the theatre. In fact the 1st one was the "1st date" with a young lady who I eventually became engaged too (alas I later got the ring back unexpectedly). But I still have fond memories of these movies (well..at least 1 thru 3). Have a lovely week (unless you find it uncomfortable to be wished a lovely week by a "old" dude somewhere in the center of the USA...part of me wants to shout the Monty Python phrase..."I'm not dead yet"...but that's a different movie). Peace.

The clues were left by Knights of the first crusade. Why would the clues be in Arabic? You might be confused, thinking that the Grail was hidden just after the crucifixion, but most stories like this claim that the grail was rediscovered in Jerusalem by knights of the first crusade (most often Knights Templar).

Great reaction like always Jade this one is my favourite from the saga. And answering your question Indiana and her father will not live forever or have a long life the powers of the grail were only inside the temple, remember what the crusader told him, Grail only grants immortality if you drink every day and the Grail cannot pass the great seal. And this movie has some fun fact like they got 2,000 rats that were specially bred for the catacombs scene, and many extras during the nazi rally in Berlin were asked to cross theirs fingers behind their back during the nazi salute, and the line that sean connery "talks in her sleep" was completely improvesed. Not Arabic, it would have been in Aramaic or Hebrew, But "Yaweh" would not have been misspellable to have Indy almost fall, so Latin was a good second choice as an universal language of the Empire, though in Asia Minor it would more likely have been Hellenistic Greek (not modern Greek).

The structure was built by crusaders. The lingua franca would have been Latin, not Arabic.

The name of God would not have been in arabic. You have to understand they're deciphering text from European crusaders returning from the crusades. These crusaders were French. So, the text would have been translated from Latin or Greek, so it would have been Jehovah.

Yup. It's a real shame they didn't make any more of them. But at least they end with Indy and Co literally riding off into the sunset.

@@RavenHawk1988 I know, right? There was real potential to expand the franchise, but they were ultimately wise to call it quits after this...

Ieovah or Jehovah is an English translation for the God of Israel from the Old Testament. The original Hebrew name is Yahweh. Jehovah = Yahweh. Nobody really knows for sure the pronunciation or the spelling. In the Old Testament it is called the Tetragrammaton. It consists of four letters….YHWH.

At the time of Christ Allah Was unknown. Islam started in the 700's AD and Jehovah is the English translation of Yahweh which is God's name in Hebrew.

California is made up of several MicroClimates that range from coastal cliffsides to Death Valley to the Sierra Nevada mountains. the Central Valley actually grows a lot of the almonds and a lot of other crops as well including tomatoes. Then there is the Napa-Sonoma area that is well known for wine. People put it off as just LA and San Francisco or other big cities but there are a lot of really cool small old mining towns from back in the gold rush and even Mark Twain's Cabin from his later life in the Calaveras mountains

California is one of the most diverse states climate-wise it is so baffling and impressive! Especially because compared to the size of states in Australia it is quite small!!

A funny bit of trivia: Indiana Jones got his name from George Lucas's dog. I kind of like that. That circus train at the beginning of the movie? It's an old logging train called the Cumbras & Toltec Narrow Gauge Railway. Running between the tiny towns of Antonito, Colorado and Chama, New Mexico, it's a very scenic ride through some amazing countryside. The Jones house in the movie is a bed & breakfast in Antonito. (I didn't know the Indy connection the first time I rode the train. They mentioned it toward the end of the ride. That made an amazing day even more amazing.

Jesus was God manifested in the flesh, the name Jesus means "Je(hovah) sus(saves)". And the common languages were Latin, Greek and Hebrew.

17:50 The original book burning took place, at German Universities, organized by the students. They were burning all of the books they considered immoral and filthy, written by Jewish authors. These mostly consisted of books on homosexuality, transgenderism, and p*dophilia (sounds familiar doesn't it?). The myth that they were burning "important" books is a complete farce. It's hard to find, but if you dig around on the net, you can find the original reporting these happenings, before they went through "revisionism" and thus propagandized in our current culture post WWII.
