Peyton Manning 2004-2009 According to Colts owner Jim Irsay, former Colts general manager Bill Polian was "at wit's end" as he tried to sign Manning to a new contract, when the subject of trading Manning was brought up. Polian said, “We need to trade Peyton; we can get a bunch of defensive players and become like Tampa Bay or Baltimore.” Irsay said no. “Understand something, Bill, we are not trading Peyton Manning, period,’’ Irsay recalled telling the former team president. The Colts eventually signed Manning to a $99.2 million contract with $34.5 million guaranteed. But Polian wasn’t totally insane to suggest dealing Manning. Through 6 seasons he’d had 3 All-Pro Campaigns (1999, 2000, 2003) & 3 inconsistent/turnover plagued campaigns (1998, 2001, 2002). His 1st MVP had come on a contract year when he was playing on the franchise tag. Many inconsistent players have had big years in contract seasons, only to come crashing down to earth once they get the contract. Irsay was taking a bit of a risk by believing in Peyton; especially given how badly his last two playoff seasons had ended (41-0 vs Jets, 4 INTs in the Title Game vs New England) In the 6 seasons after he signed the contract, Peyton Manning only had one stretch of time in which he played through injury. Manning had surgery to remove an infected bursa sac in his left knee prior to the start of the 2008 season. Manning, who wore a knee brace due to problems since he was in college, sat out all four preseason games and missed most of training camp. He was only able to practice 2 days a week for the 1st 7 weeks & the Colts started the 2008 season at 3-4. In all of his other starts over those 6 seasons: 72-10 W-L Record (87.8% winning %) 1,882 completions 2,805 attempts (67.1% completion rate) 22,887 yards (4,591 yards per season) 287.0 YPG 8.2 YPA 188 TD Passes (37-38 TD passes per season) 2.36 TD Passes per Game 6.7% TD% 62 INTs (12 INTs per season) 0.75 INTs per Game 2.2% INT% 105.1 Passer Rating 22-9 W-L Record on Game-Winning Drives (71.0% winning %) 16-6 W-L Record on 4th Qtr. Comebacks (72.7% winning %) There’s a reason Bill Bellichick went for it on 4th & 2.

The Colts were the best team in the league from 2005 - 2007. Should have been in the Super Bowl for each one of those seasons.

No they weren't. They had a terrible run Defense and were 2nd fiddle to the Patriots

@@Lewis9709 Bullshit. When Demond Sanders was playing, their secondary was actually pretty good against the run. Problem is he was often injured. He made a huge impact when he was healthy and playing, though. That's also garbage about the Patriots. Colts passed them by 2005. The only reason New England won that game in 2007 was because Brady started throwing jump balls to Moss in the 4th quarter.

no they weren't. Peyton had to carry the team

@@bubufubu If one player makes the D great then the D ain't great. They were a soft finesse unit who got owned by opposing RB's especially Maurice Jones Drew

@@Lewis9709 Your problem is that you are under the delusion that "terrible" and "great" are the only available adjectives. I never typed that their run defense was "great". During those three seasons, their Defense was pretty good. Sanders was the 2007 Defensive Player of The Year. I watched him come darting in many times from the backfield to take down runners. He was very fast, fearless, and could tackle well. Guys like him _are_ difference makers. There was nothing soft about players like Sanders, Freeney, Mathis, Brackett, Bethea, Hayden, Jackson, and Bullitt. You're exaggerating because you just want to talk shit. They had excellent pass rushers and a pretty good secondary. Their run defense wasn't great but sure as hell wasn't awful. Special Teams (Punt, Kick-Off) were the weakest parts of those Indianapolis squads. By the way, Jones-Drew is a _terrible_ example. 🤦‍♂

It was hard watching him in the 2008 Divisional against San Diego. Indy was up 7-0 and had marched into Chargers territory before Harrison, seemingly, got spooked and fumbled after catching his first pass. He hadn't played in three months. I was watching it, live, and had this awful feeling that his fumble foreshadowed doom for the Colts.

the 3.0 is a superior engine for a truck. Especially off road, torque is instant, economy is excellent, the 6.2 is fine but it's a modded car engine it sounds nice.
