i feel for the first guy in the first heat, as the subsequent winner woulda failed per the same criteria. Inconsistancies in the knowledge of the judges (refs?) make or break final placements for the participants. Cross fit is great but its got some ways to go, from the judging all the way to the cringe of castro ( we didnt need you on that bike sir)
Urankar was given the lift as soon as he stood it up. Then after the rep was called he takes a step but the rep was already given to him. If you watch, he does stand it up for a second before continuing to step.
I LOVE how tia was saying "don't give up" to cassidy and started riling up the crowd for her when she thought she couldn't make it 😭😭😭😭😭😭 that's crossfit right there.
In the men's final, they all have to do a proper (mostly) clean with a squat to get that heavy weight up. The women at 65% of the men's weight are popping up solid power cleans the whole way. I wonder why they didn't give the women more weight?
He didn't have control and wait for the signal. It didn't look as bad in slow motion, but the bar was moving forward. He didn't hold it in a static position.
@@TooDaft the rule was you need to lock out and have control until you get the signal from the judge. I feel bad for him cause he probably could have done that, but he didn't.
The women's final, to this day, is still one of my favorite CF games moments ever. Great atmosphere, great support among the athletes (how do you not love Toomey and Thorisdottir). Put Barnhart on the map as well (what a powerhouse she is).
Isn't it weird that to compete for the last/3rd round, they will only cut it to the top 5 athletes? From 30 athletes at the start, down to 20 for the 2nd round then 5 for the third. Could have made it at least the top 10.
Great event. I feel like the chalk was set up in a poor place. Easy mistake by Noah. Understandable for the penalty, but the logistics/set-up of the floor were slightly off. Would have been better to have the chalk behind instead of in front of the numbers. Minor thing, but good thing to look at for the future. LOVED Dave’s book about planning 2017’s Games.
@@willliv7990 bouncing after cleaning is no problem, but bouncing and pushing up right away is violate the rules. It's much more easier, same problem like Camille in strict press of crossfit total event
@omarmangudo3232 hmm so I READ that you can't understand numbers....I THINK that's more of a personal problem than a CrossFit problem...so I ACTED by calling you out on being....well I can't use those words here
Why is it that there are cameras on each heat participant in the men's heats, but only on one or two athletes in the women's heats - is there a reason behind this that I'm missing?
The first Heat is basically a clear demonstration of how nobody likes SOUTH AMERICA!! big hugs from ARGENTINA (Southamerica, if you don`t know where it is)
@Real boxing Fan1 the muscle mass she has is nothing compared to women using steroids. None of these women look like they are on steroids to me. Look at female body builders then look at these women. These weights aren't absurdly high either, it's certainly not unattainable.
Ahmed Hassan sign up for the open in February. 5 weeks, 5 workouts to do, in a CrossFit gym with a judge or by sending videos to CrossFit. Start there and see how good you are. Last year almost 500k poeple did the open but only 40 go to the games.
This ia one of many reasons why the games are ridiculous. All judges won't make the same calls. There was not a big difference between the guy who got a no rep on the final rep and the black guy's rep.
i do not know why everyone thinks the judge being female matters. That was a no rep! He's a great athlete but he was literally had a 20 degree angle on that last jerk, no stick it/no rep. Females and males alike here are stronger than any of us lets give everyone some respect
Dumb question from a newbie, but...are performance-enhancing substances banned while training for these events? I'm sure they are banned for the duration of the games, but..
@@retrosword4731 ?... If they are caught doping, they are banned from competing. They can still do crossfit and compete in non oficial competitions. Obviously...
Would they be allowed to run from successful lift in a way that they run under the barbell so that it falls behind them? It should theoretically be allowed since judge counts the lift at the moment of full extension and such run would save them a lot of time.
dpuntaric I believe that the standard for this event required them to step over the bar after a completed lift. Check out Annie Thorisdottir at 2:12:53
the final heat, 4 guys lifted all the weights in this event weights up to 345 lbs (156 kg) which I think makes their 1RM something around 440 lbs (200 kg) taking into account their body weights - around 190 lbs (86 kg) makes them quite decent olympic weightlifters (who do only the lifting all their lifes) hm, paleo, I think and peanut butter and what else? progenex protein! if they are not on juice I suggest them to quickly get on the cycle as they might be the best olympic weightlifter of all times :)
