"Indonesians consider politicians like celebrities and demigods, while Australians consider politicians like civil servants".
Today, Damian Hoo aka Hoointheworld joins me as we explore about our impressions and to satisfy our questions regarding the nature of politics in Indonesia and Australia. The two countries are close neighbors and strong economical allies, it is interesting to dissect the political norms of the two countries and how the political dynamics determine who holds the power and who is accountable.
Watch the video until the very end to learn how elections are conducted in Australia and what we can learn from it in order to strengthen our democracy.

Thank you for sharing such an insightful video of the talk show. I would like to share my opinion on the topic. I think the quality of democracy depends largely on the level of people’s education. The higher the level of people’s education, the better the quality of democracy. Another thing that you did not discuss is how money influences the quality of democracy in both Indonesia and Australia.I wonder if money politics exists in developed countries like Australia. It seems that money politics is very common in less prosperous countries with democratic systems. I think money politics has a negative impact on the quality of democracy.Australia and Indonesia both have democratic systems, but they differ in terms of their political structures, electoral systems, and cultural contexts. Australia follows a parliamentary democracy, where the government is formed by the party or coalition that gains majority support in the House of Representatives. The Prime Minister is elected by members of parliament, and the government is accountable to the parliament. Australia has a constitutional monarchy, with the British monarch as the formal head of state, but the monarch's role is largely ceremonial. In contrast, Indonesia has a presidential system, where the President is both the head of state and the head of government. The President is elected by popular vote, and various political parties compete to form coalitions to support a presidential candidate. The President is accountable to the people and is vested with significant executive powers. Both Australia and Indonesia have multi-party systems, but the electoral systems differ. Australia uses a preferential voting system, where voters rank candidates based on their preference, ensuring that candidates with broader support have a better chance

Well done getting an influencer on the show. The intro might be a bit too much but keep it up!

I really don't understand the format and concept of this...show? At first you said it's a 'fullblown satire' but I struggle to find any satire inside 20-30 mins bar the introduction. If its a more santai tapi serius discussion about democracy like your show notes describe, there are just too many historical misreading (at best, errors at worst such as: PNG, Nusa Dua, 70-80s Pertamina) to take the whole analysis seriously. Sure, there are some refreshing elements of the whole content (well, 30mins of it anyway) but it's just too frustating to watch. More than the actual politics of the two countries in topics here.

If you followed the lore of the channel (or lack thereof) Buzzer doesn't actually do research, he uses straws. I assume its part of the character he's playing.
