When Joe Danger was removed from iOS due to compatibility issues, a heartfelt message from a father made its way to Hello Games. In it, the father of an autistic child who found great success in using Joe Danger as a coping mechanism and allowed the two to bond, lamented that the incompatibility meant Joe Danger would no longer be able to help his son. When Sean read the message, he was so touched that he and his team worked to get Joe Danger back up on iOS with a suite of updates. *That’s* the kind of guy Sean Murray is.

The one crazy thing to know is that the game is still getting updates TO THIS DAY. They've recently (around weeks ago or something) released a new update. Hello Games really wasn't content with releasing a few updates as goodwill and as an apology for the fans, they've literally went above and beyond. There are games that slowly regained back their fans' goodwill after a disastrous launch *cough* Cyberpunk 2077 *cough* but I don't think it will ever be the same as Hello Games literally supporting their games for barely any extra monetary gains.
@SeaRaven227

@rayclay3249
@rayclay3249 10 месяцев назад
@@SeaRaven227 I kinda was expecting someone to mention that but what I was talking about was more in terms of DLCs or microtransactions. Basically any extra contents being sold for more profits like most games' idea of "post launch support". You don't pay for these massive updates, they released it for free which was why I said "barely any extra monetary gains". All you have to pay for is the game itself.

Procedural means a magic fairy inside the computer randomly generates content, based on certain pre-established rules. Like in Minecraft, you have LARGE open spaces of grass, trees, mountains, caves etc. They're all randomly placed, but the game needs to know WHAT a tree looks like before putting it down. So the magic pixie tells it, then uses some complicated mathemagics to determine how many and where to put them. Easy.
@TheAngryHumster
@TheAngryHumster 10 месяцев назад
you forgot to add that this magic fairy also takes your data on planets/locations that were generated on your side and deliveres it to main server, so anyone who'll visit this place later will see the same location as you. (sorry for my english, its not good, i know)

Hannah, procedural generation is when instead of purposely crafting every inch of the 'physical' space in the game they have a series of rules using an algorithm to make vast unique worlds. It's the same as how when people play Minecraft they have unique worlds to explore. Ps. I'm so sorry about that 'fanfiction'. I completely forgot about it because I'm pretty sure I forgot it due to trauma. Here's to hoping we never have to hear something like that again. Definitely not my thing.

Procedural generation is a technique used in games to create unique, randomly generated "items" though a relatively small collection of specific items or traits. In traditional games, if you wanted to make a forest, you'd have to make many different trees in order for the forest to not look extremely repetitive. In procedural generation, you make each separate part of the tree, such as the leaves, flowers, branches, and the trunk. Each separate part has it's own unique variations, such as having blue flowers, red flowers, yellow flowers, big flowers, small flowers, etc in the "flowers" category and repeating that process in each of the other different parts of the tree. The program then "generates" a unique tree from the library of individual parts to create one tree. For example a tree with a tall trunk and rough bark, large heart shaped leaves, small, round, white flowers and long, thick branches. So now you can create a forest with thousands of unique trees from a comparably small list of individual parts at the click of a button. There's a lot more to it, but that's the general idea. Pretty much everything is procedurally generated in No Mans Sky, from creatures, to people, planets, space ships, weapons and even the layout of the stars in the galaxy of No Man's Sky. It's pretty cool.

Procedural generation basically means automatic creation (often called "random generation", though not entirely random). Developers usually use it for things that can't be reasonably created manually, like an entire planet for example (can't expect someone to manually create every square foot of a planet).

@@HannaHsOverInvested To be fair, that is usually the case that people skip adverts. But IH is one of those creators where the advertisements are seen as part of the content because of how good they are. Think of them like superbowl ads. We all put on Adblock, then turn on the TV just to see the superbowl ads. Sone people aren’t even interested in the game. So this was a fair “mistake”. IH is the exception that proves the rule, so to speak.

@@HannaHsOverInvested Raid ads are everywhere, and in youtube videos they're usually just a generic ad read. Bottom tier of sponsored content. Except for when it isn't. For instant, Pint's raid ad was so good it's better than most videos in their entirety. The reason for such disparity is that raid hires as many PR firms as they can, and most of them are numbers driven - "it has to be in the first minute of the video, it has to contain these bullet points, etc." While ads being front loaded gets the best turnovers (mainly because people click away from youtube videos in general), it's the ones that get put in the middle or the end that tend to be good content.
@antduude
@antduude 10 месяцев назад
And Hello Games is still releasing content for the game(a new patch and Expedition just went live two weeks ago)without charging a dime extra for it. I think at this point, if HG announced a paid expansion of some sort, people would gladly throw money at their screens just to say thank you. The good news is that every time they release a new update to the game, sales to new players continue to grow. It really is the best kind of redemption story.

It's now on the switch (which is nothing short of miraculous by the way) as well as psvr2 and ps5 and Xbox and Pc and there is genuinely 18 quintillion whole planets to explore (needless to say more , way way more than anyone could actually explore in their entire lifetime.) . I've peeked at you playing some other games and this could be a great fit for you. It's not too heavy on the enemies trying to kill you aspect but the exploration, things to do, build and craft and missions and story line and trading and ..ooo my gosh there's so much to do! procedural generation is, in games, essentially setting an algorithmic framework that allows the game to randomly generate areas, creatures, or other content within limits. This video is a couple years old and a bit outdated, after 7 years since realease they are still working on the game and it honestly became one of the best games out there when it comes to pure content and stuff to do. It keeps you hooked for dozens of hours and just with the main missions and storyline you're looking at 60h of gameplay. Which easily turns into hundreds of them with the sheer amount of sidequests and optional content. Its awesome Thank you for the reaction, it was definitely one of the most entertaining to watch, specially for someone who isnt very into the gaming world, you still managed to follow the video really well and focus on the important bits. Good luck with your books!

procedural generation is when content, mostly landscape, level geometry and so on, (the world) is not created individually and purpose build by an artist, but rather algorithmically or "procedurally" on demand or up front with in certain parameters but generally with a heavy random aspect. the automated part might only pull from a set of pre created components of variable granularity (tree meshes, color variations of texturen, creatures, or even whole predefined building complexes, randomly placed in a procedural generated landscape around them etc) but there is, at least in theory, the possibility to create anything from scratch given the right instruction set and method of randomization.

Procedural generation is what allows games to be so huge. In computer science and game development, it's quite obvious it's impossible to fit so much content and data like 13 bazillion planets and etc and models and even make that stuff in the first place. Procedural generation basically has given assets and possible traits for in-game beings, maps, buildings, etc. And when you explore an area or whatever, the program generates new things, randomly for you. It procedurally generates new stuff as you go further into the game, while it also compresses downscales or deletes and saves for the next time you come back to the previous things generated. And that stuff can also be forever imbedded into the game if it's a full MMO type. There's a game I forgot it's name, but basically it has probably the closest scale to the milky way, by the amount of stuff it's meant to generate. And even with all the people that played it, it's obviously not been fully explored. Whenever a player discovers a new planet in that game, that data is saved and compressed forever, so that the next player that discovers it, won't actually be discovering anything new, it's a thing that's been already discovered by someone else and saved onto a server system. Of course you can imagine how much compression and servers you need for such a realistic game. Although I think combining multiple methods of how games load saves money and server usage. In games, what you don't see, doesn't exist... well to an extent, because if everything constantly generates 100% RANDOMLY. You get Cyberpunk NPC's. In Cyberpunk 2077, there was a big issue with NPC's loading different models when they have to be loaded for the player when he's looking at them. You could look at some old dude, turn around, turn back at him, next thing you know it's not an old man anymore but some hot chick.

On procedural generation: There are essentially 2 ways to design a game world, or really any piece of art. The first is for it to be completely handcrafted, every detail painstakingly made by some individual or team. The second is to create a system of building blocks with certain rules as to how they should fit together. An extremely reductive but maybe useful analogy would be the difference between writing an entire story where every detail is known prior to publication and edited or placed intentionally vs. writing a template for Mad Libs, where the details are filled in by users or by a computer. There are different levels of procedural generation. In games such as Noita or Minecraft, where individual pixels or voxels (3D pixels) are simulated with physical properties, then the process of procedural generation is a bit like putting LEGO bricks together, restricted by some broad guidelines. Other games, such as Starfield, may have human creators make modules such as hallways, bedrooms, cafeterias, etc., and then an algorithm arranges those modules again based on certain rules. This module-like approach reminds me of playing board games like Betrayal at House on the Hill, where the rooms of the house are all premade, and players have fairly broad rules as to where they can go. Usually, the more granular the procedural generation, the less guided the player experience is. In either case, central and story-important locations are usually entirely handcrafted and placed into the world, and then procedural generation is used to fill in the gaps. Or else, those central and story-important locations may be larger modules, and then smaller modules are used to fill in the gaps. For example, supposed that you had to make a 3D space that represented the area from New York City to Los Angeles. That's a huge area, and it'd be crazy for anyone to create a 1:1 representation of the real world. Instead, creators might handcraft all of their representation of major cities such as New York and LA, and then use rules for procedural generation to fill in the space in between. The fact that there must only be one Statue of Liberty, for example, shows how certain important landmarks may be handcrafted and placed individually, whereas suburban_house_05 can be copy-pasted hundreds of times across the map, even placed by computer, and people probably wouldn't complain too much.

Time to learn about Bots and Gold Farming. “RuneScape players are hunting down Venezuelans” And “ChatGPT is about to destroy RuneScape” I know I suggested these before, but they were at the bottom of a TLDR, so nobody probably saw them.

It's only mentioned once, but I would like to point out how big Hello Games adding VR support to No Man's Sky was ij terms of community rapport. He showed a screenshot where games like Fallout and Skyrim were basically just re-released as VR games at full price alongside the normal controller/mouse-and-keyboard version. Getting for free what other companies resell like it's a whole new game is huge.

Procedural generation, as I understand it, is that you make the game generate content like levels, what enemies to put there, items etc. by itself, by drawing from a set of rules the devs give it. Sort of like playing with legos, where you can put things together in fairly unique ways from a set of predetermined blocks.

I’m not a member, so don’t expect a reply. That being said, I got No Man’s Sky when it came out on Xbox, despite all the negative crud I saw on the internet. Yes it was buggy, yes there were problems, but I still actually enjoyed playing. Then I lost home WiFi due to budget restrictions and reduced income, and wasn’t able to play online or update my console & games. A few years later (2023) I found there was a free WiFi signal my Xbox could connect to, so got my Xbox updated, then seen updates for No Man’s Sky and got that done. Then I started playing No Man’s Sky again…… I was absolutely blown away, so much more stuff, and FOR FREE! I’m a 58 year old Cold War Era Army Veteran who loves video games, mostly Military style First person shooters or “blow crud up and kill people” games, but No Man’s Sky has become my favorite game to play.

It's a brilliant video that truly shows the fantastic redemption of the team at Hello Games, and also shows Sony to be the real villain by forcing the release schedule on them rather than letting them delay a proper amount of time. P.S. Wow that last bit was both shocking and hilarious xD
