A new study finds that black mothers are more likely than any other race to lose their babies. That rate increases for black mothers with higher education, whereas it decreases for white mothers who are more educated. Keisha Bentley-Edwards, a co-author of the report, discusses the findings and the proposals to combat them.

What is the infant mortality of babies born to parents who were married at the time of conception?

Feels like she was purposefully vague, she never even presented a scenario we could dwell on and that was something I anticipated. All we are left to think about is racism, but could racism really be the culprit here? What would this racism even look like? This is why I wanted some scenario, a demonstration of said racism. It's very hard for me to believe that, at such a scale presented in this video, so many Doctors and people in health care would compromise their careers because they did not like the race of the patient they were taking care of. I think there is more to this than racism.

They are not necessarily only discussing racism in the doctors office/hospital. She discuss that the daily stresses of systematic racism basically induce stressers on the babies and women affected. These additional influences may contribute to the disparities.

@@aaroncooper7257 that's quite a conclusion to draw, and systemic racism doesn't affect the other races. Something is missing from the picture, it's hard to discern the truth cause all we see is ppl with agendas.

I do not think the study said that. It said it was very high compard to non-HIspanic whites. And not better if the Black mother is from higher SES. So, I am pretty sure the highest has been AI/ANs for decades.

There is another article titled "Black babies more likely to survive when cared for by black doctors"... really? What doctor cares for the baby? The doctors deliver them and may come in once a day to sign a chart (in order to get that 300 check from insurance)... but the nurses actually care for them. And if you look at the statistics of nurses by race, they are equivalent by the population of each race in the U.S. That being said, the problem is the insanity of forcing feeding everyone this BS.

I think it has more to do with doctor recommendations. My doctor advised me and my wife to abort our child. Saying he said have to many health complications. We ignored his advice and gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

The interview ignored the elephant in the room -- pardon the pun -- black women have the highest rates of obesity which is a good indicator of poor health. Add to that higher rates of STDs, drug use, and being unmarried, why would we not expect higher infant mortality? And not all racial groups have equally healthy diets. As for education not affecting infant mortality like it does with other racial groups, perhaps considering that not all academic majors are equal is in order.

@Ja'Nysha Lazenby From 3 weeks ago: More than 60% of babies who die in infancy are born to mothers who were overweight or obese prior to becoming pregnant, according to figures released Friday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. From HHS: Obesity and African Americans. African American women have the highest rates of obesity or being overweight compared to other groups in the United States. About 4 out of 5 African American women are overweight or obese.

Findings from the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health include:2 6.9% of African Americans have a substance use disorder compared to a rate of 7.4% among the total population. 3.4% of African Americans have an illicit drug use disorder compared to a rate of 3% among the total population. Past month illicit drug use among African Americans (13.7%) is more than Caucasians (12%) and Hispanics (9.7%). This was one of the worst scientific reports I have ever seen. They showed one graph and everything else was assumption. First off, why are we only comparing black women to white women? What about Latino, native American, Indian, and Asian women? What were the health factors? What about birth rates in terms of environment? Let's do a study based on urban to suburb to rural life. How do we know that these black women with higher paying jobs were being verbally abused by their colleagues? Based on this report I got none of those answers. Awful. If I were her professor I would give her a D-.

That makes a lot of sense! Because it’s the mother that nurtures boys at a young age to be proper at the table and patient! This would also explain the mortality rate of adolescent african men in the country who die on the streets daily! Problem with diet? Problems with diet before pregnancy? Problems with parents? This looks generational not genetic!

The remedy for this problem is a very simple one? That is that, American Black women should become more of a Virtuous woman ya-think? This woman-type, thanks to Feminism mind-you, for she knows not, and haven't a clue to the Powers of the Virtuous woman in the slightest, especially as it pertains to her Over-all health that's contained within the Powers of the Virtuous woman, no? As the saying goes, “You Can’t Teach What You Don’t Know,” right? With that, why won't there-be a Study or Research done in support of the Virtuous woman, its Lifestyle and All Of Its Benefits? Well we all know that’s, “To Much Like Right” and therefore Shall Never-be, no?

First, they would have to define infant mortality for us. If infant mortality means a death of an infant anytime from the womb through the first year, then the idea of racism as a killer is absolutely flawed and inflammatory. How 'bout eating habits and care of the infant? Perhaps blacks in America don't understand how to properly take care of infants. Then we would need to educate them. Second, if infant mortality only means death of the infant in the womb, then racism is again a flawed and inflammatory reason. This would rest on how the woman takes care of herself -- i.e. is she taking her prenatal vitamins? Having regular doctor check ups? Education of blacks is again the key. Finally, lets get some real doctors to investigate this and not one who has a vested interest in crying racism while she also gets ahead on the backs of all of us i.e. Affirmative Action!!!!
@NicoleCowie
@NicoleCowie 5 лет назад
First of all, just becuase she is black and at Duke doesn't necessarily make her an affirmative action admit. For all YOU know she may be a legacy admit, yes, there will be black children and grandchildren of Duke alumni. Secondly, the study also pointed out that the maternal mortality rate for wealthy, educated black women is higher than that of equally, educated white women. So questions of prenatal vitamins, checks us, education about child care is basically moot in that sub-population. Plus it is racist to say generally that blacks in America may know how to take care of children.

I stopped reading after you ignorantly stated African women can not take care of their children. Their is a deep extensive history of African women being forced care givers, think before you speak or at least take your hood off so you can gain a better understanding
