Gentlemen, do you want to get real training in Night fighting? Current/former Military, L.E. and Civilian are all welcome! S&S Training Solutions offers both live fire and force on force training using the MILES laser engagement training systems (same type as used by the U.S. Military). Check out there website at: www.sstrainingsolutions.com/ Up coming future course date on their schedule: June 19th, Odessa, MO for the Gunfighter with their introduction of the Nightfighter 101 course. $150, "Fathersday2021" for 20%- NVG rentals available via G&P Armory. Check it out! In addition to training with S&S, consider attending a training semester at the One Shepherd Leadership Institute. Training semesters offer first rate Infantry light fighter training in small unit tactics and leadership. I also help volunteer as an instructor at some of these training semesters as well as Cole Sammons who runs S&S Training Solutions. Hope to see you there! 1shepherd.com/ **Guys, Primary Arms is hooking up my subscribers! Excellent video and as you can see I preferred mounting my 14s on my rifle for patrolling or ambush in the woods/farmlands of south Baghdad. For SKT missions in the city I mounted them on my helmet. Walking on uneven terrain with NODs is hilarious and a pain in the ass. The amount of guys that fall down can be funny but not on a combat patrol. I had/have excellent night sight naturally so while patrolling I’d raise my weapon to take a look and scan at every short and long halt. This limited my clumsy movement and allowed my other senses to be heightened. As a great of a tool and advantage NODs can give you they also can make units reliant on “tech” and that never worked for me. My men knew how to operate old school and use the tech we had at our disposal. I learned quite a few things from the Vietnam vets and I passed them on. Hopefully my men did the same. If we end up doing the right thing and oppose our oppressive government we won’t have the tech advantage, learn to do without.

Thanks for sharing brother. I have seen first hand multiple times where guys get too dependent on their technology. Its not just limited to NVGs/Thermals, but things like land nav with the reliance on GPS and dependent on UAVs and other related assets. Guys need to be well rounded though, I've been on the receiving end acting as OPFOR w/out NVG capabilities against a BLUFOR that was fully equipped. It was bad...

I welcome the day selective availability comes back to gps and people actually have to bust out a compass and map. I fucking love land navigation though. And I love nods too. We didn't get much access to them during my time in the corps. I was 0811 and we got moonbeams instead lmao. Our gun truck drivers had them. And all the sncos and O-1s and up did too lol because they really had important stuff to do.... Semper rah, gents... Brent, do a video on driving with nods. I almost killed my entire gun crew doing that once without a single enemy shot being fired...

Some takeaways I had from my first FoF nighttime patrol in the woods: 1. Woods are very loud places to walk. This video was correct about everything thing taking twice as long at night. Everytime our TL tried to speed us up, noise discipline dropped. Go slow! 2. NVGs have a awful time finding enemies in dense foliage and undergrowth. I would not want to go on a night time patrol without thermal capabilities. Thermal optics are life savers when it comes to spotting enemy positions in a dense forest! 3. Be aware of ambient light!! I understand that dual tube NVGs are gucci, but 14s give you the ability to see what is actually going on light-wise. 4. The dbal d2 will get you kilt in da streetz. Story time: a guy (without any nvgs or thermals (was playing a "average joe")) on the op-for was laying in tall grass. Guy on our team (with a dbal d2) thinks he knows where op-for guy is and lights up the grass with his laser and massive illuminator to try to secure the elimination. He misjudged the actual position laterally. The op-for guy with no nvgs was able to clearly see the red glow from the d2's LED illuminator and immediately secured the kill on NVG dude. I know that all the D2 videos on RU-vid say something along the lines of "the red glow isnt that bad/that noticeable", but it is VERY noticeable! A guy with good levels of training, nice gucci gear, and nightvision got smoked by a guy with far less training and nothing but a plate carried, baseball cap, and a standard ar15 because of it.
@taylor3880

Good to know. Was debating the I2 and D2 and think I’ll stay away from the LED illuminator tech

@@Brent0331 thanks for some tips man that’s awesome, I will say that I’ve always had my goggles fog up though with the eye cups and they always fall off, I keep a pair for when I’m stationary though. Also with duals my current act in black DTNVS setup with a g69 Wilcox mount is 22.5 oz and articulate so you have the best of both worlds in terms of mono vs duals. A pvs-14 with milspec helmet shroud, arm and rhino mount is 20 oz give or take an ounce

Then there's the technique of looking about 15 degrees to one side of the object you are observing. This directs the ambient light to an area of your eye to a place where there are more rods than cones. Cones are for color vision, whereas rods are for differentiating light intensity. If you develop this technique, you will be surprised at how well you can see in times of limited light availability.

A well done night movement is an awesome thing to behold. Unfortunately that’s 1 out of 10, no matter how good you are.

Light discipline : Dont use IR flood lights, and laser designators bc the enemy may see you Camo: dont wash with certain detergent bc itll make your camo glow US Uniform Requires for ID: a Big ass flashing IR light on your head, maybe some bright ass glow sticks or 1x1” squares on your chest and shoulders , some glowy reflective US flag patches all over your kit too... The PVS built in illuminator code trick is cool, comment isnt to throw shade at you, but it def poses some contradictory info.
@AmazonWebService98
@AmazonWebService98 3 года назад
Because it's old vs new shit , few years ago it was complete dominance against insurgent groups , they found out the hard way that running ir flood and designators is s good way to get you killed with the market flooding of more affordable tech that can pick up on that

Which also just shows how lacks we have become by dropping operation standards just because we were fighting desert rats

Your video is good at explaining the use of night vision aids and the different types but what if they fail? What do you do then? I would have thought you would have covered that aspect of operating during the hours of darkness. For example; the mark one eyeball cannot distinguish colours at night, only shades of black and grey. The two types of cell within the mark one eyeball retina - rods and cones. As a result, use "off centre" vision to look in a figure of eight motion around the object you are looking at. Lay on the ground and look up to silhouette the object(s) you are looking at. These, to my mind, are the basic infantry skills for operating during the hours of darkness. We rely too much on technology.

What a really cool Channel I have found, although you're Olive color would stand out like a turd in the punch bowl where I live in the middle of nowhere Arizona I was wondering if you had any recommendations for camouflage in my type of area most of the rock is reddish.

Outstanding! Mahalo for making Night Vision easy to understand for the normal joe. I love nerding out on details but this kind of overview has been sorely needed in the 2a community. What kind of eye pro are you using?

could you do a video or short response on if there are camo types that a civilian ran militia wouldn't want to wear in the event of US soldiers needing to be deployed on home soil for whatever reason
