I just realized that if Mason went on this mission instead of Bell like Hudson wanted, the mission would’ve been a fiasco because he would’ve gone batshit the second he saw Kravchenko
The only guard you can’t takedown lethally in the level happens to be the only one that could suspect that you knocked him out. No wonder they easily detained Belikov later on.
@@amukarna The events of Cod 4 took place in 2011 and MW2 and MW3 took place in 2015-16. No way all of that happened between Cold War and BO2. Plus Harper said Menendez is the biggest terrorist since Bin Laden. He never said Makarov. This Zakhaev is only the game because Activision is unoriginal now and just franchises the fuck outta this game
@@AnimeHobo13 To be fair, at least two thirds of Lubyanka speaks with that accent. I guess finding native speaking Russian voice actors is absolutely impossible in the age of Internet. So, intelligence headquarters in center of Moscow sound like Brighten Beach Pizza Hut or something.
@@AnimeHobo13 Considering how it could've given some people so badly needed bread on their table, and probably did so at a price lower than that of US-based voice actors, I find it frustratingly stupid, to say lightly.
I wasn't a fan of this campaign but I did like Gorbachev's speech at 5:36. It's a flip of Kennedy's "we are at grave dangers from the communists" speech in BO1.
Yea i wish it would just be a stealthly mission instead of massacring everyone and get away with it, seriously tho, why the hell did the soviets didn't attack USA for this???
@Patton they had some nasty advanced interrogation training, and pure meanness to boot, Not to mention this is cold war call of duty, either Lev kravchenko, or even nikkita dragovitch would most likely be sent in for a man like bell and Addler.
This mission alone made Cold War worth buying. Seeing a map with multiple different pathways and objectives you could do was awesome. It's still relatively basic compared to RPGs, but it broke free from the insanely painful linear Michael Bay rollercoaster ride CoD was stagnantly riding into the sunset for years.
@@piggy8761 Right??? Exploring cold war era lubyanka as an undercover officer is such a simple but refreshing idea. Cold War won me over by just slowing down every once and a while, not every single second had to be balls deep in gunfights.
This mission has made me really want a proper cold war espionage game, but I can't seem to find one. There's plenty of games with gameplay concepts similar to this, like Hitman franchise, but none that have the gameplay and the setting like this mission.
"If things go south, we need to secure our exfil." This from the same man that walked into a secure area beneath the KGB Headquarters and just started shooting. I think things are pretty much as far south as they're going to get.
@@ezequiel717 No he's right lmao The USSR fell not because Murca was just better. They had their own corruption and greed like America does, it was just a different banner and ideas. But it all was consolidated and coopted just like the United States with their Military Industrial Complex, among others.
@@Foxathy I believe it's because of this: Belikov is Russian and so when you're playing as him, in his point of view, he understands Russian as if he understands English, which is why they speak English. As for Bell, his nationality is likely Russian. In the plot twist part, CIA brainwashed and implanted false memory on him after rescuing him from Turkey mission, making him thinking you are American or British, but retains his Russian skills, based on dialogue with Zakhaev in the elevator. In the bad ending, when staying loyal to Perseus, Perseus speaks English, meaning Bell maintains his allegiance to the Soviets or he just snapped out of it from brainwashing. I wrote the same reply at Diego Salazar's comment.
If they pulled this shit off in RL, the Soviet security troops would just seal the intruders inside the vault or another section of the bunker, then try to put them down with sleeping gas.
In 1966, the Soviets used a small tactical nuke to cap a natural gas wellhead that had blown almost three years prior and had resisted all other attempts to cap the well. The burrowed down, put the nuke near the well, and blew it up, crushing the metal and killing the well. What I'm trying to say is: The Soviets were 'merica before 'merica was 'merica. They would have locked them inside, then sent in 5000 special forces troops, and then, after they didn't hear from them within 15 minutes, they would have probably VX'd the whole place, and given all the troops Heroes of the Soviet Union medals
Admitting that enemy intelligence even got that deep into your own headquarters and stole sensitive intel would be too embarassing to do, let alone that they got away with it. Violent or not, I‘d be surprised if there‘s any overt reprisal.
13:52 I like how the restricted areas are only in certain compartments of the level and the AI seeing you crouching out of one like speedy gonzales sees as nothing suspicious
@@mariano98ify nah, there is about 7 Universes in the COD saga, which is 1.The Modern Warfare Universe(1, 2,3,4,MW2,MW3) 2.Black Ops Universe(waw, bo1,bo2, bo3, bo4) 3.Advanced Warfare Universe(AW) 4.infinite Warfare universe(IW) 5.Ghosts Universe(Ghosts) 6.CODM Universe(the most weird and scrambled up universe) 7.The Reboot Universe(MW2019,BOCW)
The space ship from IW, its number, was named after task force 141. A GameStop pre order poster confirmed that it shares the same universe as modern warfare.
MW2019 is sort of a prequel to the original MW series, but it's also a reboot and some details have changed, so chances are future CoD games will sort of 'rewrite' the MW storyline to bring it in line with the groundwork the reboot has laid. This could mean the same might happen for Black Ops 2, it gets rehashed and altered to bring it in line with the new MW canon
I’d play spy themed RPG game pretty much like this and I’d love every second of it. Not a game that we completely go past our problems by killing or sneaking like in other stealth games but a game where we’re more dependent on surviving and completing missions by getting information from other people without blowing our cover or overall the diplomacy we have between the each party that we’re supposed to be aligned with due to the nature of our mission.
The hate that this game got was unwarranted. This is one of the greatest shooting game campaigns I’ve ever played. Well written story. Fits well in the Black Ops universe part of COD.
2 things that bother me about this mission: 1) Adler is a terrible choice for a undercover agent because of his scars, hair style/length, and sunglasses. The only worse option would be Sims. Park made the most sense (if she could speak Russian) since her hairstyle is within Soviet regulation. She doesn't have scars or face tattoos 2) The entire 3rd act is completely unnecessary. Them gun-blazing the entire KGB headquarter would result in WW3 whether Perseus was in the picture or not
JFK: "We are in grave danger from the Communists. Our freedom, our very way of life is at risk." Gorbachev: "We are in grave danger from the capitalists. Our collective, our very way of life is at risk."
@@AFGuidesHD ok edgelord. You can't say every country had gulags. And don't bother trying to mention Japanese internment camps, cause those are no where near the same level of horror the gulags, coups, and starvation that happened in good ole "misunderstood" communist land.
Fun fact: When Gorbachev says “We are in grave danger from the capitalists.” And “our very way of life is at risk.” Is a reference to Kennedy in black ops 1 saying “We are in grave danger from the communists our freedom….our very way of life is at risk.”
I literally got ptsd when he said "This is Mr. Zakhaev", full, perfect flashbacks and chills down my spine for a solid minute I had to pause the video.
I believe the best option on the Undercover part is to Frame Charkov or Make your own Bunker key. Charkov is Dimitris old friend. It would be messed up to kill your Long time friend
@@threathy yeah field agents i think will not visit their office everyday like normal regular workers, they rarely come even maybe only few high level officers know their existence as agent... while others dont,
Why is the KGB's HEAD OF SECURITY not allowed in the restricted areas he could just say as the head of security he's doing a security check to a guard and walk right in
Yeah fr it isn’t perfect by any means but it is much, much appreciated after having to deal with robots, jet packs, wall-running, exo suits, lasers, and reviving the dead (BO4) for over 7 years in the franchise. And then, holographic sights on WWII guns in the next game 🤦♂️
Adler is like the most American looking dude you could possibly imagine. Doesnt look like an Eastern European in the slightest so dont think that was necessarily the smartest choice lol
Gorbachev: "Comrade Belikov, we are in grave dangers from the capitalists. Our Collective, our very way of life is at risk." Also Gorbachev: *Appears in Pizza Hut's Commercial*
@@sidsucksatplaying Gorbachev was never a staunch anti-capitalist, nor was he a smoker. This campaign is 100% historically illiterate, more fictional and incorrect than Hollywood movies xD. Gorbachev was the reason relations between the U.S and USSR became peaceful.
@@raseconat88 kravchenko is from BO1, one of the people that was present during the brainwashing of mason, and zakhaev is the main villain in COD4, the stories are not the same and have no relation at all; they are in different universes
This seems like a mix of 70's technology with modern firearms. I wasn't alive yet in the 70's but I'm more than old enough to remember the early 2,000's and the gun tech is on par for that time period.
30:33 That one whole scene is like those arcade shooters when it gives you a machine gun with infinite ammo to let you shoot anything thats on your way
"our very way of life is at risk" brought me back to being 10 years old playing black ops with my friends. love how they just re-invented the Kennedy cut scene in the dialogue.
This was one of the coolest missions I’ve ever played in Call of Duty. I was fascinated by everything I was seeing and experiencing. Especially with everything that’s going on today! Gives you good perspective
You guys know that's not the real Mason. his real name is unknown but we all know him as Bell who was MK Ultra just like Mason, between both two of them Mason had to kill three of his targets and Bell will he had job to do.
cod infiltration/behind enemy lines-like missions are the best IMO and carry campaigns , despite the flaws in this one they are usually well made and immersive and don’t feel boring (unless replaying the campaign)
My apologies if you don't understand my explanation, I'll do my best; I believe it's because of this: Belikov is Russian and so when you're playing as him, in his point of view, he understands Russian as if he understands English, which is why they speak English. I think that's all I can say, but hope you get that idea.
Before mission: "we need to sneak in and out with disguises, this is top secret, world peace hangs in the balance" During mission: "Fuck it light em up, WW3 wont happen lawl, lets just drive away weeee"
I was shocked on how much I liked this campaign and I kinda wish it fully married itself to the stealth aspects. If this game was longer, had more fleshed out stealth, and a more branching ending like in Black Ops 2, this could have been my new favorite campaign and the best CoD campaign since Black Ops 2.
I love the little detail of when you're Belikov, the banter from side characters sounds like English, because he understands Russian. But, when you switch back to Bell, the banter is in Russian.
The only connection is MW19 And BOCW, older games(mw1, bo1,etc) does not connect, but this is a new universe, and this universe only has 2 games for now(Mw 2019 and BO CW)
It's connected with the new mw (2019) not the earlier one and I think bo2 is not connected to Bo Cold war bcoz we don't see any appearance or mentioning of Imran Zakhaev and William Bowman and even Adler (yeah characters don't appear after death but they are mentioned).
@@grunt117 I get that but it definitely takes away from the immersion. I know, I know, the plot line does this as well but hey they could at least try to suck us in.
5:36 funny how this part where Gorbachev is talking about America to Belikov is a mirror of JFK talking to mason in Black Ops. Almost exact same lines but slightly different for obvious reasons.
The layout and the interior design of the bunker are almost identical to what you can see in real life, if you visit the 'Bunker-42' installation in Moscow. Good job, devs!
I played that mission just recently, and wow it’s amazing to see two call of duty villains all in one mission XD. Kravchenko, I helped out by framing Charkov as the mole. Zakheav, made him have an awkward chat by correctly answering his questions XD. He was blushing, I could tell
the references to previous games are neat but they are really full force exploiting nostalgia at this point. it seems like they force characters into the game that didn't need to be there to make people go oh wow I know that guy.
The end of the mission had me so lit just goin scarface on the soviet union and then that car getting mowed down and then crashing. Cod has always done those slow motion shootings. Its amazing
>Notices Kravchenko "Okay, sweet, they're including him. Seems legit." >Notices Zhakaev "excusemewtf.jpg" Can't wait for the countless conspiracy theories which try to combine both universes into one. Love the cameo mentions and appearances nonetheless.
Such an amazing mission until the end..still the best mission in the game but yea it got ridiculous when you start shooting up the entire KGB headquarters
Anybody else not gonna mention how the conference room scene is literally the same as the room in Chernobyl? Like aye, the building’s architecture has to be the same for it to be the KGB but i had just finished watching the series before playing this and it felt like the exact same when I played this. It was great.
They always speak Russian but As Belikov is Russian we hear them as English to show how Belikov understand them completely .. It's for us non-speaker to make it more immersive... When we took control of Bell he didn't understand them, hence they speak Russian.. It's not that hard
All Russians in this game should speak Russian. Just read English subtitles. Way more immersive than you are saying: If he understands Russian we hear English.
The m16a1 in this game has the classic vietnam era 20 round waffle mags but some how has a capacity of 30. You cant expect perfect realism from these people.
