INFJ Obsessive Self-Consciousness

INFJ personality types and INFP personality types are two types within the MBTI personality type system that tend to be the most self-conscious. The extreme degree of self-consciousness that these two types experience affects them deeply, and can often cause them to suppress their creative urges. This is because the act of being creative can feel like an invitation for others to attack and criticize their creative efforts, and the INFJ personality type and INFP personality type live in fear of being judged.
INFJ personality types and INFP personality types will frequently use people-pleasing as a survival tactic with others in order to fly under the radar and stay invisible, because invisibility feels like it equals safety. However, when we choose to remain invisible, and constantly put others’ needs before our own in the interest of people-pleasing, we end up in a prison of our own making. We feel trapped by our own fears, and powerless to give voice to the creative magic inside of us that so desperately wants to break free.
The only way to release the fear of judgment and conquer our extreme self-consciousness about our creative work is to build inner resilience. Inner resilience is essential if we are serious about following our creative dreams, because if we ever want to put our work out there, we will have to learn how to withstand the projections of other people, which are an unavoidable challenge for anyone who shares their creativity with the world. Tune into the video to find out more about INFJ personality types and INFP personality types and feeling self-conscious.

We overexamine everything, especially ourselves. We are critics, analysts, pattern-matchers and always obsessing on *something*.

I hate being an INFJ sometimes. I feel like im normal but always judged as weird. I HATE BEING JUDGED AS WEIRD. It hurts so much

The ones doing the judging must feel afraid to be judged.

You're not wierd, you're observant If people are blind to things you see, you will be deemed odd You're cool ✌️

I know this may sound petty but I hate how I have lived through different stages of my life not being the popular one, or being the most approachable and likable to others. I hate yet like my weirdness, odd choice of hobbies, and being the deep and complex one. It just feels like my life is passing me without me getting what I want from life or doing what I want. It really feels like I'm living my life through others because I want these things but veing the infj that I am means I can never NOT be weird me.

Actually, I Know that I’m very weird, but I think the polite thing is for people to pretend not to notice.

Being INFJ is shitty experience, that's all i can say about it, we are gifted but we pay way too much for it, to degree our gift becomes our curse, that's so not worth it. I wish i was more "normal".

Intuitive is all about self-awareness and what's hidden in our own psyche , S types walk around not knowing what's going on in their Ego let alone their shadow , they can never understand how much complex we are .

This explains my life so accurately! Was praised as a kid for drawing and being "talented" while also at the same time told to never go into art as a career since I won't make money. My dad and a few other people encouraged me but aside from that everyone else judged and put me down for it. I decided to go to art school anyway, and at first I was giving 100% and really felt like I was taking advantage of the education but over the years there, I came across a lot of professors and even other students at that school who were judgy and condescending like how people in my past had been. I guess, over time, I really gave up on myself. Let's not forget the failed exhibits I tried my hand at as well. My mother was creative but very judgemental of other people and I know she didn't have a good experience growing up either, so she passed down that generational curse to me as well.

Wow, it’s so easy to feel alone in these feelings and life experiences but reading the comments, I realize I’m not alone. We will get through this, get tools for resilience and we WILL pursue our dreams! Never give up. Just change the tool bag

There is another aspect to this. People who try to guide us away from what we are urging to do is very harmful because it stifles our development in a broader sense. In the case of creativity and art, it is a form of expressing ourselves that acts like a mirror so we have a tangible physical representation of who we are. We see things symbolically and not all language is spoken or written.

Yes we create something that reflects something of who we are or wish to be. That way we see ourselves reflected back in a way we don't see in much of popular culture. So those who try to squelch this in us are doing us a much bigger harm than they usually realize.

This is so brilliant. Detach from both the negative... and the positive. I thought the initial fear I felt when I first shared my creative work would be the biggest fear I'd overcome. It turns out, getting positive feedback triggers unexpected fears that only grow as the momentum grows! Ah, the INF life.

To take it a step further, my family has outright said that I'm not a creative person. Despite being the only one in the family.. who creates stuff..

I have been too self conscious most of my life to pursue music and art like I yearned to. I instead tried to redirect all my energy into work and "regular" life. All that did for me was burn me out in my career much earlier than those who live a more balanced life. My advice is to listen to what Lauren is saying as if your life depended on it!

Past trauma is a huge barrier to fully exploring my creative abilities. Childhood criticism from family and peers is definitely holding me back from creating and doing. I am REALLY looking forward to this class.

I just made this comment on another one of your videos on INFJ and sabotaging success. Thank you so much, Lauren. You're so on point. I hate i missed your class. Maybe you can offer recordings to past classes to those of us who missed out?

I struggle to accept compliments on my creative work. I don't trust it.

I find it interesting that people believe in you when you are young and have nothing else but a dream. But when you get older and you have actually achieved something, they stop believing in you, because you haven't achieved enough in their eyes (nor in your own eyes, but that's another matter).

Yes this resonates so hard! I was crying last night because ive been trying to start a RU-vid channel, but im so self-critical and easily hurt by someone unsubscribing that Im scared to upload a video. My parents are very easy going and never understood my emotions or perspectives. Definitely grew up feeling alone.

I think that overcoming the obstacle of over personality can be done through spirituality in a way of presence like Eckhart Tolle teaches and from that place do our human stuff. That helped me a lot but it’s a long path.

Laura, I think you need to retitle this video. It’s a great video with tons of wonderful insights on creativity and inner resilience but it doesn’t touch on self-conscientiousness.
