Welcome back guys! This is a Time-laps of me inlaying some 24K gold wire into the parts for my dagger project. The parts I inlayed with 24K gold were the pommel, guard, front spacers.
This was about 6 hours of work sped up by 2,000 times. Making it a convenient 10 minutes!
Hope you enjoyed this video! If so then leave a like and subscribe for more great content like this!
Thanks for watching!

And that is why handmade items are expensive. Most people have no idea the amount of time, skill and craftsmanship that goes into handmade things! Exquisite work!

Wow, great work. What tools do you use for cutting the channels and pressing the wire in?

Goodness, I truly admire your skills & craftsmanship. It always amazes me how you guy who engrave are able to freehand and keep such straight lines with nothing for the graver to rest against. I have a few quick questions for you if you don't mind :) I'm fine with waiting for your future Q & A vid if you'd rather wait to address any of these in that vid. The first is, what tool were you using at 4:42, and what were you doing with it? Also, are you able to reuses any of the gold you sand off? It sure seems like a lot to simply go to waste. I always imagined that the excess gold was scraped off first and gathered before finally sanding of what little remained. Finally, what grit did you sand it off with? Oh yea, one more lol... why use twisted gold wire when you inlayed on the guard lugs? Was it to give you the proper size to fill the channel? Thanks again for sharing! It was pretty hypnotizing watching how steadily you engraved those fittings (I'm guessing they be hot blued?). I can't wait to see how this dagger turns out!

How do you get the gold wire to mush down so smoothly? Everyone else I've seen do this uses a hammer.

Hi Kyle. Why do U use 2 wires instead of 1 thicker? Easier to work with or you just had this size or any other magic? Thanks 4 an answer ;-)

@@KyleRoyerKnives and now I can't remember what I asked you in the email. I'm sure it had to do with being a huge beginner, and wondering g if you had time to mentor an old guy like me who has been a metal fabricator for over 43 years, but has a whole lots steam in the boiler. I just turned 55, and I am ready to begin my 3rd career in metal fabrication, this time in the Arts and Craftsmanship Genre. My patience and attention to detail that I've learned in the last 40+ yrs. I believe will truly give me an edge, and "my passion & just plain crazy love for makin' awesome beautiful STUFF from nuttin' things!" I guess you understand that too.. Oh, I know... I also asked, if you could only afford between a power hammer or a hydraulic press as a beginning bladesmith which would you pick? Do you have a favorite resource that teaches pattern welding patterns and how to? Same for Makume Gane? Would you be willing to take emails as a mentoring friend pal buddy? Don't feel bad to say no- I'm a big boy, my wife tells me no all the time, I'm used to it!

Hello mr. Royer! I was wondering if you could help me out.... Im trying to learn inlaying and the problem im having is that after the inlay and i reblue the metal my inlay turns the same color as the steel around my inlay! So then i sand it and my bluing comes off... Is there a way to polish out the gold or copper without removing the bluing around the inlay? Im going nuts trying to figure this out! 😵thanks for any advice or help!
@KyleRoyerKnives
@KyleRoyerKnives 3 года назад
Hey Marcos are you using hot bluing salts or a cold process. The we use Brownell hot bluing system. It doesn’t affect the Gold&Silver we use. Cold systems however may etch it. Once we have a mirror finish on the part we rarely have to touch it after hot bluing. Hope this helps. Keep Forging On my friend. Dad
