I was just sitting in Austria in a nice roundabout. Everything was choc a bloc and some idiots did horky borky lane switching. I was just thinging to go outside and draw lines on the ground while saying you go there and you go there and you go there. We need you in real life Biffa.

If there's anything I figured about C:S traffic after hundreds of gameplay hours, there's lane math, there's roundabout, there's TMPE, there's highway layout, there's walkability, public transports, etc, but there's also strategic zoning placement. Big blocks of yellow, right next to greens and blues, and forcing all of their traffic to go through the same route and crossroads instead of directing industrial access to separate highway system? That's asking for trouble.

That crosswalk on the highway at 4:23 indicates that the two-lane segment is the wrong kind of road. That's a regular two-lane one-way street segment and not a two-lane highway segment. Cars are slowing down on it and not using that segment because it is a slower speed limit. There are a couple other spots of highway where the wrong road segment was used like that.

What we really need is a mod that makes traffic switch lanes only one lane up or down per node. So no more orthogonal dive from left most lane to right most.

For highways there is an option in traffic manager options which does exactly this.

I'd be content with a mod that made the AI take traffic into consideration. Even if it was just as simple as moving over a lane to go around traffic instead of waiting for turning traffic to move when you want to go straight.

Another tip Biffa = The author of the "net picker" tool also does another tool that allows you to "add" or "remove" the nodes on networks, which is handy for close junctions to help stop or allow lane switching.

@KingCaino Plays I guess the train traffic occurs because the raw materials demand of businesses are not satisfied by the original traffic. Once the traffic is fixed, less trains are produced.

Check the workshop collections he has on Steam. Also, some things are DLC locked such as the Blimps, some of the menus you see him use are a little hidden when you first use them.

I saw your last epsiode where you built a water pumping/cleaning earea in Tea-Ville. I dont have (most of) those buildings. or the industrial buildings you use. Also the resedential/commercial/industry buildings I have, are Low- or High density buildings. After I build those area's, the buidlings which come there, aren't by far as good looking as your buidlings. Let's say, I miss like all of the buildings you use in Tea-Ville. Maybe you can shortly explain the things you use in your next Tea-Ville episode? Again, Much love form the other side of the sea! (Amsterdam)

I just rage quit a city because I was at 68% and I thought that was bad.. I spent hours trying to fix it (make it drop). Annnnd I just realized I had it completely backwards.... I should pay attention more.. Great video man.

Best fix was the crossing from city block to city block. So many times in these videos, there aren't any, so the people are forced to use highways. Second best was deleting one way roads. I wish Biffa would talk more of those fixes, and why they are needed.

I really think this latest update to traffic manager takes the game to the next level. I've built kinda bad & busy commercial zones, and with timed traffic lights, it sits at 84% traffic. With the road updates having a large variety of lane options, you can make so many dedicated lanes letting traffic flow so easy!

I seem to find these videos more satisfying than actually playing the game itself. Not that I don't love the game, I do, I have hundreds of hours in it, but I don't really have major traffic issues in my cities and just watching these getting fixed feels so good to watch.

Not sure how anyone can get their traffic into such a state, mine hovers between 74% to 83% , but maybe that's because I watch these videos and implement the fixes ahead of time. Also liking the look of the new lane-picker interface. Thank you for all your tips, Biffa.

One way roads work wonders if you do it properly. The problem is doing it properly. It requires planning, and it requires knowledge. Not only that, but you also need information. Where do people want to go, and why do they want to go there? So not messing too much with one way roads is just easier most of the time.

Eventhough I have tons of hours in CS myself and don't have much to learn about fixing traffic, I get so excited everytime I see a new Biffa traffic fix thumbnail pop up in my video feed. There is just something oddly satisfying about watching massive traffic jams slowly unclog. Keep 'em coming Biffa, I probably wouldn't even get bored from watching your uncut footage.

I may have missed it in your video catalog, but I'd love to see your take on proper bus route set-up Biffa. I tend to end up with these ridiculous routes as my city grows and I'm hoping there are better ways, like limiting them to X amount of stops or only covering so much area, that sort of thing in order to make buses work better.

They also added a feature to shift-click on the roundabout just like you would do to set up the give way signs for the junction restrictions! That will open the "u go through" and the "puck your lane" for every junction on the roundabout which should help to tell hugo how to use those roundabouts properly ;)

I remember being a one way road control freak when I first started to play the game. I thought I was being amazingly efficient controlling thr flow like that and even wondered why rl cities don’t do that. Well I soon found out why lol

Hello. Thanks for the video and for the fix, one of the best I’ve seen so far. I’m new to the game and to your channel and this was my second city ever. I was stuck on about 50k population, similar to “Groundhog day. Whenever the population reached around 50k, traffic percentage would drop and people would leave. Less people, less traffic, percentage increase, people move in. More people, more traffic, percentage decrease, people move out. Repeat. Thanks for fixing my city. Cheers.

Biffa, something to consider - the original creator may've had lane connectors but if they were using the previous version, the settings don't necessarily transfer over to v11. At least that is what happened to me. I went to v11 and I had to redo all of the lane connectors, speed changes, vehicle restrictions, junction modifications, you name it.

I try this one twice. First attempt was very similar to yours, but did not get me good results. But while I was scratching my head and watching the red sea grow, I noticed the real problems of the map. Which are the access to highways! So by providing better in and out solutions the traffic went to 87, only to last a few seconds. Then dropped to 84 and stayed there.

Biffa, I love every video and I've learned so much from watching you. I think at this point it's safe to say that there is only one way to correctly setup Junctions, Lane mathematics, and roundabouts. As much as I love your videos you spend the first half of them just getting things done correctly, and only the last half doing the unique fine-tuning things that you are so talented in. I would suggest making a tutorial series that everybody needs to watch, and your viewers need to have that stuff already done prior to submission. You don't need to waste your time doing basic fix up stuff that they can do themselves, and you can spend more of your time showing us what you're really good at.

I've fixed my train problem before only to have it create a huge problem with traffic as the influx of trucks from my cargo terminals crippled my road network. After some massaging and using your tips, it went away. Then there was another time where my traffic created such a terrible feedback loop that I had to enable despawning for 1 second just so my fixes could work. I'll turn in my Biffa card in shame for that.

This may surprise you, Biffa, but I now make most of my cities "gridlike" and the traffic is almost non-existent. I generally don't stick with 100% grid, but the idea is that there should be a large number of direct paths from residential areas to where they go to work. Curved and angled roads look nice in low density neighborhoods, but as soon as you try to shove any amount of traffic through them, the roads jam up. Also, I've started to close off my industrial areas from the road networks, forcing people to commute there via metro. Industry causes so much traffic from imports and exports, that it clogs up the roads (especially oil industry for some reason), so forcing them to use train terminals and stay in their area helps a ton. I've even got 5 train terminals in one industrial area, and they do use all of them. I'd be happy to send my current city to you if you'd find that interesting :P

Fixed a similar city yesterday, it had a lot of one way roads an the head always bit the tail of the traffic and there was no public transportation. Took me hours, but I got it up to 85% traffic flow by changing line arrows, expanding streets, changing one way directions, lane mathematics and lane restrictions, the challenge I set for myself is not to change the core road system, I even removed a roundabout and the whole city works without traffic lights. am halfway through the video and I am thinking.. he did his lane mathmatics and made all sorts of roundabouts, uses stopsigns and standard roads... This city builder is building vanilla. no mods, no traffic manager, that's why he was only using some of the standard "biffa solutions". That's my cup of tea ( pun intended).

Great video as usual. Meanwhile... 15:30 I don't understand. Bus lines sometimes have a few stops having tons of people waiting. Obviously the routes require some improvement and re-organisation instead of simply reducing the vehicles used...

I'm not sure if you noticed but the new give-way sign giver thing, when you do ctrl+shift+click it looks like it adds lane connectors as well which makes them not able to change lanes sometimes depending on where you added them. I'm not sure if it might add problems in for people later.

5:41, bring a slip road off before the 3-way junction, run it parallel to the main highway and have that merge onto the off-ramp on the cloverleaf so that the traffic entering the 3-way junction merging onto the highway doesn't have to cross the traffic coming off the highway. If traffic has to cross each other it can back up if particularly busy so running a parallel carriageway can alleviate that. Also, 12:50 could be called an _oblate-spheroid-about._ I'm tempted to show off some of the stuff I've tried on top of your suggestions.

No idea why I watch, as I don't even play this. But been watching since Christmas.... Where in the UK are you? Trying to figure the accent. We had snow yesterday too. You sound fairly localish to me, but that said, sound like someone who may have lived in different places (ie, a cockney turned geordie 😂 - not saying you're either of those)

I usually get 50-60% traffic flow... but I want it even higher, which seems kind of impossible tbh... was using roundabouts, traffic manager, junctions, shortcuts, etc... but now I'm at the point where I realise that the citizens are just a bunch of idiots if you don't set it all up 100% correctly XD

@@zecuse I think what confuses a lot of people in the beginning, is that lanes are not used like many may be used to in real life - like over taking/faster lanes inside, slower lanes outside, which in real life would fill out all lanes on a highway. Here, they're used exclusively for path finding. So theoretically, if the road leads to only one destination, and has only one inlet, all you need is one lane. Lanes are only for merging to get off/get on, which is why the lane mathematics actually work. All of this confused the hell out of me in the beginning, but this channel among other things cleared it up for me.

Well, you could help them by redesigning your public transport (which includes the goods transport from the industries to the commercials) and rethinking your zoning. I had to learn that one central industry zone might not be the best idea i've ever had. 😅

@@zecuse if its heavy used and all use 1 line, ,you can force them to use at least 2 by separate traffic type by lines. 1 lane only for cars, 1 lane only for trucks and other line for other types, and you disable forcing 2 nodes before junction

OKAY I‘M DONE! Reached the 70% mark, changed a few more roads, set up some direction lines with the traffic manager... and just 2 hours later I was able to mess it all up and went down to ~40% AAAAAAAAAAHHH! 😖

I'm trying my best in my city to hit 80% (although I'll be happy somewhere in the 70%s if its hard) and currently I am at 50-60% traffic flow - gonna add a rail link out of the oil industry area and hope it reduces traffic as that is the busiest area in the city (has like 6 or 7 districts if you count the oil area as one) Edit: One of my roundabouts on-ramps is always red when entering the city after a long tunnel even though I added a by-pass for the cars with a higher speed limit - might submit the city later this week if I can't fix everything myself

Excessive use of roundabouts doesn't solve problems, it creates them. In my real life city of 25,000 we don't have a single roundabout anywhere within city limits, and we have no traffic problems whatsoever. The city to the north of me has nearly 60,000 population, no roundabouts in the city limits, and no traffic problems. Neither city has mass transit beyond taxis, local buses and national passenger trains (Amtrak). There is a city to the northeast of me that has 136,000 population, no roundabouts, no traffic problems, only buses and taxis and a municipal airport for mass transit. There is no substitute for direct connections between adjacent districts that do not involve roundabouts and highway interchanges to slow traffic down.

Yeah, bad road design is usually 90% of the issues with these cities; Ie too close junctions, not enough overpasses/connections between districs and overuse of one way streets

Im living in North of Germany and we had some hail and also "Sabine" is still raging and the next storm is just rolling in from a few more. Okay i just figured out "Orkan" is meaning "Hurricane". So storms in Germany are having Hurricane strengths most of the time. Realizing this is scary :o

I think that sausage-a-bout was causing loads of trouble. All the traffic on that side had to go through it. If you are on a main road and want to continue straight through, you have to drive to the other side of the area just to drive back to your side to continue on straight. If you want to use roundabouts, that's fine, but I'd take it and break it down into a few smaller roundabouts. That would serve the flow better through there.

One would think that Shift+S would work on the nodes where 1 lane is exiting/entering -- as long as the lane counts match (3 down to 2, 2 up to 3). Isn't drawing the lines across the node is the same as telling cars "no lane switching".

@biffa no no biffa. it means Do or Don't "queue across intersection".. :P when a roundabout or traffic is SUPER congested, I don't use giveway outside and yellow warning on inside. I put warning on outside and no conditions inside.. they slip through gaps until it starts to move better, they basically make more attemps to move through
