Gloves and helmet... $0. One hot lap of Nurburgring... $30 One set of tires ruined in one lap... $1200 Having balls the size of church bells... PRICELESS
I drive an 87 porsche 930, and track it frequently. Sometimes I think I am getting pretty good and pushing the car close to the limit. And then I watch this video..... Good god.... This is pure car control at its finest.
Growing up as a kid my Dad had a 82 930, I karted and raced Formula Vee as a teenager but when I got behind the wheel of that thing when I was 19 or so I felt like a baby giraffe taking my first steps. Absolute weapons!
This IS Stefan Rosen, THE test pilot for RUF's manufacturer. Most amazing lap around Nurbu, at least for that time. This was the year 1989, when they tested it on the Nurburgring. The name "Yellowbird" is the nickname of this RUF, because it was so fast and agile. It still is very competitive for a car build back then! Only 23 or so were build...
+William Thieme No. You put the left hand out of the right window and the right hand out of the left window. Then you use your teeth to hold the wheel. Were do you learned to drive? Amateur..
I just watched the Nismo GTR Nurburgring video and even though they achieved 7:08, the all wheel drive super car seemed to have "driven itself" (kind of boring to watch). This on the other hand, is raw, rear wheel drive and...yeah, RAW... even though it did the lap at 8+ seconds (record breaking in its time), the driving is superb, scary, exciting and just... all of the above in the "Holy Shit" category. Oh, and he's driving with a pair of jeans, hanes T-shirt and Who needs a helmet? Balls of steel!!!!
Agreed. and you will never become a better driving the gtr because it monitors everything 1000 times a second. It is exactly a computer on wheels. Kind of takes the fun out of driving
+MrPorsche91730 *Kind of takes the fun out of driving* But not out of winning, and that's the only real reason they build those race cars in the first place. The driver's super car however, this being the prime example, is a rare breed likely never to be seen again, not this pure anyway.
Tried driving this round the ring in gt5, at first I thought they'd got the handling and setup completely wrong for it. This video has confirmed it's all accurate 😂
@@sekkusupisutoruzu I downloaded the game today on my PlayStation because I saw on the internet how many Porsche cars you can drive there. Unfortunately I had to find out that all of those are DLC cars so I decided to take the Yellowbird. Chose the Nordschleife and was shocked how hard it was to keep that thing on the road.
I respect that, not many GTR owners would dare say that. You can't compare the 2 cars period. I have the same spec engine in my 930 now buts its single turbo, hell does it go. Greetings
I've driven my friends 930 turbo and it's scary in all the right ways! I've always been a Porsche guy for pure driving joy. Just found a 1965 original 911 #302226 in a barn. Check out the video on my post and happy birthday Porsche!!
ScumbagMafia Greetings brother I have a Porsche 1976 turbo with a Ruf spec engine in it but single turbo charged jesus does it go, it will be twin turbo soon.
ScumbagMafia Hello friend I am getting more power out of my engine as it running 993 GT2 Evolution camshafts. Its single turbo charged now running full competition powerhaus headers and muffler, its a straight through pipe awesome sound. The cams makes huge amount of torque. I will get a video of it up as soon as I can. Greetings from Australia
HOLY FUCK!!!! Those drifts circa 1:53 were nuts! Look at how hard and fast he's countersteering.....that power steering system's getting a workout, as is the driver! That's just insane. You really have to know what you're doing to drive one of these things at the limit like this. And the driver definitely does. I can only imagine how hard those G forces were, between the acceleration, the braking, the cornering! Absoutely insane.
If it has no power steering, it's only a pain to turn when you are going slow / just starting. If you are on the road already, steering becomes very similar to a modern car.
I come back and watch this video often...his car control is awesome and makes me wish I lived close to a track that was as epic as the ring...the way he slides a car know for snap oversteer with ease boggles the mind...great video
Remember, this is an 80's supercar. No traction control... No antilock brakes... Rear engine weight bias. No front drive or all wheel drive. The power in this car is SAVAGE when the boost cut in. This driver knows at every monent what the car is going to do, and what he is going to do. He has many hours in RWD Porsches as can be seen. He is an amazing driver in a hard to handle car.
beautiful amazing car. that said, the engine being so far back made this thing a twitchy unbalanced psychopath. it looks like hes trying to wiggle the steering wheel off. its nothing but oversteer understeer. looks like the most fun i could imagine having.
Stefan Roser was the Porsche factory test driver/stuntman/drifting god in the 80s. Pretty much any Porsche commercial from around this time he was the guy behind the wheel doing something at least mildly insane. The man had titanium balls and knew the 'Ring like the back of his hand. This is one of the greatest pure driving videos ever.
Not only does this man know the track extremely well, he knows how to handle a porsche at its limit.. which is a feat in itself! I've seen this video dozens of times and I still love watching it.
this is one of the most impressive nurburgring ring drives i've seen on here, no electronics and the RR setup, man hes workin so much harder than drivers seem to with the new cars.
I love modern sports cars. They offer amazing performance that mere mortals like myself can actually attempt to use. Having said that, there is something almost magical about these old school cars before computers took over. This was a MAN'S car. That's not a sleight against women, but just expressing the thought that this car had to be driven with equal parts respect and force. What a great video and a great, great car!
Exactly. The Super-cars today have a ton of advancements derived from the racing teams. RUF took the 930, beefed the suspension and engine. The yellowbird was the fastest street legal car you could buy back then. The 930 was no slouch in it's stock form. I'd have to argue that to make a machine handle like this just from the feel in the seat of your pants, well it's just poetry in motion. Real men drive the 930. Proud owner of an '88 930 Turbo here. Melding of man and machine. Porsche did it!
Not only is this guy passing bikes on the strieght aways he's freaken counter steering in the midle of fith gear * that's freaken scary as hell * also when he's coming out of a speed drift he is un counter steering moments at a time so that the front tires are facing the derection of the road *so that means he is coming out super smooth vs a slopy and slow oversteer ! Man this guy can drive he uses the momentive of the cars power to make sharper turns !! Mad props bro !!!!!
How to kill a clutch, brakes and a set of tires in 8 minutes. He's able to drive like that due to the heft of his massive ball sack lowering the center of gravity about 8 feet below the car. No helmet, gloves, or electronic stabilization needed. Just a pair of loafers and a sunny afternoon. This guy's driving skills are legendary. People may have driven the track faster, but nobody has ever driven it better.
respekt... mit diesem höllenelfer auf diesem höllenkurs mit drift und alles was dazu gehört....ohne esp und abs und mit nur 4 gängen...echte handarbeit...absolut geil
There are not enough words in the dictionary worthy of describing this guy's driving talent and no unit of measurement that could quantify the circumference of this man's testicles. Flat out in an 80's Porsche on the Nordschleife. Massive respect.
no helmet = pure insanity.... going that fast is one thing not even having a helmet just giving you some comfort in what little safety there is thats a whole other story right there mad props to the driver
Stefan Roser was the driver, a close friend of Alois Ruf. Still wondering that the wipers stick to the windschield. Top Speed was 342 km/h in Nardo. I once had the opportunity the drive a yellow bird. Made a 180 degrees spin right out of the driveway, not on purpose. This is an insane beast
This is really insane!!!! This guy is a king, drift king, king etc..... It is so crazy that he drifts in every curve, especially when he drifts while overtaking that only one car which was on his way LOL :)
Jesus wept. Now there's a man doing a job of work. Every time I see this vid it inspires me to work on my driving and do a bit more track time. It's a pity the vast majority of people buying supercars now don't want the hassle of having to put in any effort or take any risk. I'm sure a McLaren MP4-12C would get within a decent shout of the yellowbird's lap time even in the hands of a relative muppet. I think the passport to this sort of speed should be a decent amount of acquired skill myself.
so he started the drift scene ? ....somewhere in japan at same time, takumi Fujiwara doing his father's job sending tofu in Mount Akina at 4AM every day for 5 years..and probably he watched this video and try losing the rear end on the way down :D
