If you call it a waste ,then you are a full, now than ever , those houses are needed as many may choose to go back and build back your land, cos their businesses are being destroyed everywhere.
I totally agree with you, it’s about time we build up our land. “It’s luxury or nothing” according to Flavor. If she says it’s a waste like her go and live in a mud house house
I agree with you. Calling it a waste is totally off putting and she’s Igbo? Perhaps it’s vocabulary issue or naivety, really surprising. Might be waste to you but certainly not a waste to the people who own them and know why they built them. Edit: after watching the video, I don’t know if it is click bait but we should be intentional about the words we use about ourselves. She clearly said in the video it isn’t waste and the title should reflect it. And its nothing to do with the war as people who live abroad still build at home, it’s an Igbo thing to remember where you’re from and most Igbos prefer to retire in the village so makes sense to build a befitting home for yourself
Her use of "waste" was in a quote as I have written it here. If you don't know what that means, ask a knowledgeable person because your comment shows you are not 🙂
The Igbo are great Business Men ,You Even remind me of a Young Man Igbo guy I met in my Country Ghana who deal in Spare parts, trust me no parts of BMW you want he can't get for you at Abossokai Accra , You even remind me let me wish him a happy Xmas and a Prosperous New Year
Nne, this is an unwritten Affirmations for every Igbo son has, we igbo men have standards and we must do better than our parents. Long live every igbo sons who are making the right efforts to fulfil our destiny.
I am a decent of the IGBO tribe. And I think what they do is great as long as they take care of the village who cares. And from what I have seensome of the villages are doing well.
@@zeeondemand Thank you. I love the tribe and as long as they take care of the village. And something to create wealth for the village I say go on. I seen a video where a young igbo built a hospital. The other tribes laughing at him. But here is something that people do not know. Igbo.are Jewish. When I got my DNA it's said 86% Nigerian rest Jewish and Europe. But I choose to accept Nigerian and Jewish. I love your show. I will subscribe to it. Happy New Year
Nice video. However, it has always been traditional for Ibos to build in their homestead (even in pre-colonial times, as evidenced in China Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart” first published in the 1950s). The relatively recent political/religious strive and the Civil War may have heightened it, but these are NOT the cause. Tradition and culture is the reason.
Igbos believe in community and in the village different kinds of ceremonies takes place weather the clan meetings, burial, meeting at age grade, family meeting and traditional marriage. And no one wants friends to show and nothing to show or the compound might not contain many people. I think all these gatherings including Xmas, Easter and New yam festival makes mandatory that Igbo ls go visit home many times a year. Some people go home every week depending on distance.
Only think I wish they would do is build more schools and more hospitals. and librarys. I think that by itsself would really educated they young peopel. Here is my thing is the American decents could come and teach on how to do things. Like here we make our own waters. Many people are going to solor a lot could really change. But although I am decent I am honor to be IGBO .
I THINK THE NOTION THAT IGBO PEOPLE HAVE THE MOST PALATIAL MANSIONS IS RIDICULOUS, AS AN ARCHITECT WITH 20 YEARS + OF PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE THAT SPECIALIZES IN THE DESIGN OF MANSIONS IT IS AN AFFRONT ON MY SENSIBILITIES THAT THESE ARE REGARDED AS THE PINNACLE OF MANSION BUILDING
Okay Mr. Adegbemi with 20 years architectural experience can you enlighten this audience about your university education? Was it in Nigeria? If so kindly show us some of your best designs since that will be very helpful. I have travelled extensively and it is not common to see houses like these even in most suburbs here in the United states. Inquiring minds are waiting for some of your great mansion designs from Nigeria villages. Please do not keep us waiting for too long. Thank you sir.
I don't see it as waste... even in western climes they build their mansions like outskirts of their cities like a holiday home and they visit such places periodically.
Guys, stop all these needs to explain why someone chooses to build any kind of structure they want on their ancestorial lands. What makes a man a full-fledged man in Igbo culture right from time immemorial are house, wife, and kid. It has nothing to do with civil war. There were few-storey buildings in some Igbo villages before the civil war. Igbos have been identifying with their villages because of cultural heritage - 4 traditional marriage ceremonies are culturally mandated to be performed strictly in the villages of the bridal father's family compound(3 of 4) and (1) in the groom's family compound - inviting families of the bride and members of her father's clans to know where the ancestorial compound of their potential in-laws(groom). This culture predated the colonial era to date. In recent times, more especially in insecurities, some people are having traditional marriages in cities which was a taboo in Igboland, just like burying a fully-fledged Igbo person outside his ancestorial village whether they died in the city or overseas residency. are you aware, that before Igboman builds a house in the city he must build first in his village otherwise people around him would see him as "efulefu". We have moved from thatched huts to zinced huts to modern houses and mansions. Mansions are based on capital capabilities nothing more - it has nothing to do with culture nor civil war. Affordability! Cultural demand is anything that can shelter. one's family. White people/westerners build cottages away from their family's residence according to their taste and financial capacity for vacations, some of them visit the cottages a few times than some Igbos visit their village mansions. Where do you want a rich Igbo man to host his quests, in-laws, family, and others? In the hotels? The average Igbo man visits his village more than 6 times a year, some frequently, almost every weekend for either kindred/village meetings, burials, traditional marriages, yam festival, etc. Depending on how far away they live from the village and their financial capabilities.
Spending on building a country home is never a waste. It’s a retirement plan. You’re just ahead of your peers. When we retire from the buzz of the city in the twilight of our years, the country becomes the most natural place to be.
Vintage delluxureyinterior is the owner of the house .The young is successful entrepreneur based in Lagos, a business associate of Ikilead Onwunali innocent the produce Hammer energy ,meridian ,Odogwu bitter. Obi Cubana, Jowazi, PH .Exhibitors, chief priest are his friends
@ogee177, Okay Mr. Adegbemi Agboola with 20 years architectural experience can you enlighten this audience about your university education? Was it in Nigeria? @@zeeondemandwhen someone says waste with her fingers up it is written as "waste" which means; it's what some people say but not really a waste. I'm very proud of my hardworking Igbo brothers and sisters who invest in their villages and their people. This house is the best I've seen in Nigeria!
You have received a lot of blow-backs about the term "waste" in your title, deservedly. The least you can do now is edit your title and remove the word waste or at least enclose it in inverted commas to indicate that you do not own it. This is yet another indication that Igbo people after years of battering in Nigeria have begun to adopt the lexicon of their traducers in describing themselves. Another example is Igbo people saying Obodo "Oyinbo" to describe overseas instead of decidedly Igbo Obodo Oyibo. Sad. Please note that the village is the centre of the Igbo cultural, political, social life. What you are seeing is a modernisation of that setting in the context of Igbo historical experiences. For example, Igbo people make friends around the world and you wouldn't expect them to invite them to decrepit villages where open defecation is the norm. The same people who criticize Igbo village "waste" can pawn their family heirlooms to fund lavish urban parties. The talk of asokoro, maitama and other such exotic places in the context of Igbo ancestral villages is not good, probably ignorant.
It’s not a waste, how do you think a city develops, plus there is no lace like home, when most men get old, they want to go back home not stay in China or Lagos
Try to develop igbo land. Life Is not all about mansions and hotels, shops, and drinking pub Igbo should do better. Tourist? s are not attracted to east. Do You know why No outdoors activities, no place for sight seeing, no international tournament , no standard parks, museums so on
Thinking from a business perspective , i am sorry to say but its a Negative equity! Unless you have an unlimited flow of income and you dont really care. The value of this home in asokoro, maitama or guzape, won't be less than #1.5 billion naira. The value of this home in the village cant be more than #30m to #50 million naira cause no influential person would want to spend their entire year living in the village
I don't want to ever hear u say that's they're wasting money" bcuz u don't see what is happening in Lagos Nigeria" how Lagos state government is destroy everywhere
Is only an idiot that will threaten a group people that are mostly business merchants. They can never be stranded. Meanwhile, I want to see yoruba villages not only Igbo villages 😊😊.
Waste? lol Also when I hear other Nigerians, especially the yorubas say "go develop your region" I laugh. Can someone here please mention any region in Nigeria more developed than the east!!?!
When has it become that you people looking for subscribers will decide what people should do with their money? Stop this meaningless topic, any person who is against building houses should go and live in the gutters or bushes period.
