🍿NOTIFICATION SQUAD: Journey Across Japan: Escape to Fuji has officially begun! Welcome to the journey. BICYCLES are banned. I'll admit I do feel a sense of guilt for leaving Natsuki waiting, but it's not often I get excited about a quarry. What would you have done? Natsuki vs. Quarry? What a genuinely crazy start to our journey though. I never thought it'd all kick off like this! I really hope you enjoy this extra-long edition of Abroad in Japan in glorious 4K. Episode 2 will be out next week! For now, grab the popcorn, pull up a leg rest and enjoy the most terrifying episode of Abroad in Japan ever released. - (Except every episode with Ryotaro's face in).
I recently found out that the love hotel is called Hotel Celine and it’s one of the most well-known haunted spot in Nagano. I refuse to believe that Chris, a known Haikyo enthusiast, just happen to stumble upon it without planning.
His obsession was only just beginning around this point in time, most likely. This was over 2 years ago, and his interest had more to do with visiting places rather than researching them. Considering how much he likes to talk about things, it's unlikely he knew it existed until he came across it, because he has no reason to pretend to not know what it is.
@@Naokarma Especially considering the whole premise of the series, he’s lived in japan for i think 7 or so years at the point of this video and had never properly seen MT. Fuji. I think missing a singular building is plausible given who we’re talking about lol.
How well sealed was that room with no smell? How does a room HAVE no smell? Surely it would just smell of like whatever the base material is or something? Unless, duh, it was just for eFfEcT.
@@LucaMolteni84 to be fair on James, that was kind of the point. It showed an actual foreigners view of Japan, as someone who could not speak the language. Whereas AIJ can translate on the fly and has lived there for a long time so it is a lot easier for him.
@@LucaMolteni84 James May's show was brilliant, but in a different way. I can imagine that people probably wouldn't appreciate it if they didn't know much about him beforehand.
@@AbroadinJapan Personally I'd go back armed with the creepiest dolls with reflective eyes that I could find and ensure the next people who visit get their natsuki ciggie's worth Or alternatively employ some college students and call it a horror café. That'd probably work for a bit, right?
Chris: "Natsuki, go find us a scary point while you're on your ciggie break" [5 minutes later] Natsuki [knocking on window]: "Too fucking scary point!"
I won't for a moment believe they would forget that cell phones have been invented... although just to get a better reaction from Natsuki... Nah, Chris is not that cynical... Cynical? It's his second name 😂
i was pleasantly surprised when he said fucking hell at 10:27. He's putting chris' swearing english swearing dictionary to good use after all these years
The abandoned love hotel is something straight out of a horror film, holy shit. But instead of the usual jump scare, its filled with just fucked up revelations, imagery and tragic resolutions.
@@maboleth It would be cool if he did it again, but leisurely. Not a gruelling long journey every day. Just to get around local rural areas and show off the scenery people normally never get to see.
considering they started at takasaki station this place is a detour where theyd have to drive several miles past their destination so.. but kudos for the narrative
From someone doing some digging by people who've posted it's actually a (in)famous abandoned building/haunted house in the area so I doubt they came upon it by "accident"
Yeah that love hotel had some serious blair witch vibes. I can just imagine a man living there alone for years because he went crazy after killing his pregnant wife after he found out she was cheating on him. That's actually quite a nice plot isn't it?
Oh man the journey across japan intro music brought a wave of nostalgia over me of when I watched the cycle of hell! Can't wait for this one to progress! Super excited!!
If that abandoned love hotel really is an unexpected stop then it's freaking brilliant! You know what regardless it still was. Loved the series, looking forward for some more.
I could see Lara Croft climbing all those platforms in 6:50 LOL I really like your narrative, it inspires me to further my creativity while making videos
This has become my favorite RU-vid channel. The editing, the cinematics, the characters, and frickin Natsuki! My go to channel for all things Japan. I'm inspired to finally embark on my journey to travel to Japan and teach abroad. I've wanted to do this since I was a teenager but have put it off for over a decade. I'm 31 now and I'm done stalling and being stuck in a career that I hate. Thank you, Chris, for your videos. They truly inspire me.
All the writings about cut up pregnant women was just nightmare fuel. Hella big props to you guys for actually going in there, and Natsuki for his cigarette break which led to all this.
@@destinyquiroz914 I don't know what to fear more, the freaks/killers who made those drawings and messages or the ghosts of their victims who might be haunting that place lol
This is why i love Chris, he puts his all in these videos and u can tell by the amazing production quality!! I cant wait to go on this journey with u and the crew. Love u and what ur doing🤗💕💕
Four drawings of women, three were pregnant, two had stories, and only one person there would survive that horror film and it would be Natsuki because he's the "only one with common sense" character.
i usually keep quiet lurking in the comment section silently, but I have to say the production quality and storytelling is off the roof with high replayability. You truly are one of a kind youtuber that I follow.
I think this is my favorite video you've ever done. Part travel vlog, part urban exploration documentary, part snack review. Plenty of funny moments between everyone, you all have a great dynamic together. And all of it felt so genuine! Looking forward to the rest of the series!
I watched the first journey across Japan series during the first weeks of quarantine and I have to say it made me have a reason to wake up and be happy and enjoy something. It reminded me of the things I love and my admiration for Japan and I fell in love with Chris's charisma too. I'm very grateful for that and for this new release of journey across Japan and excited to be watching new episodes. Thank you!! I love the way the series is portrayed
Yeah I mean the writing, drawings and environmental story telling are _(obviously)_ most likely made by some local school kids or alike for entertainment. The spoopy theme definitely feel pretty typical of Japanese horror, not too bad though. If I were them I would be curious about where that number goes to. I would avoid immediately calling it though and atleast look it up online since there's a possibility that they're trolling you with a number to public services, a random person/business or whatever else you shouldn't bother with a unnecessary phone call. But it's also possible that it was used for a test of courage _(a pretty common activity I think)_ at some specific point in time when someone actively picked up in character to scare the other high school kids who took part in it and simply not in use anymore.
Nintendo presents "Journey Across Japan: Escape to Fuji" A Hideo Kojima game. "Built on a foundation of bitterness, resentment and revenge. 9/10" - IGN
Checks out. Pic of scantly-clad/naked woman on the wall that would make everyone ashamed of themselves once they discover the real deep backstory. The baby will have its own story arch in the future.
@@Musouka3 That would be the sequel. Last time you innocently explored an abandoned building. Suddenly you realized it was no ordinary building, but a love hotel with an evil past. You thought you escaped until now. The haunting of the unborn ⚡BEGINS⚡
So Chris, is this journey to find peace in terrible times or something with more spiritual or philosophical meaning? Chris: Nah, I just want REVENGE on my fans and Joey.
Not going to lie, as soon as I heard that sweet, buttery intro song, I had flashbacks to the intense joy I felt watching Chris suffer through long arduous days biking across the countryside of Japan. To see this series continue, I'm filled with that same excitement once again. Thanks for letting us explore the world through your videos!
@@vincentlaw82 Reminds me of the quarries in Fallout 4 and mines in Fallout 76. Although with the music it especially reminded me of Fallout 4's Dunwich Borers quarry. Which is a pretty scary experience the first time you go through it.
Good Lord, that hotel was legitimately terrifying! And I had SO much anxiety, because on top of all the creepy stuff all I could think was: 1. WEAR YOUR MASK (right away)! Asbestos and MOLD is probably in the air. 2. God, I hope y'all packed hand sanitizer 😅 3. Flea spray. I've gone through many abandoned or distressed properties for people to flip and there's a 30-40% chance the yard or home itself has fleas! Safe travels, gents! - Your overly worried American Mother
To be honest i think the messages written at the end were not written by the women described but by other people who were jealous and that is why they were drawn like that to signalize that they broke their duty as mothers and wives by cheating (if you are married there is no reason to be in a love hotel unless you are cheating) PS This post is just in case someone was confused by “mixed” messages
Are you from the middle ages? And sure there are reasons for couples to go to love hotels. A lot of couples go to love hotels because the walls are thin in japanese apartments, they often don't have big western styled beds there and usually no yakuzi.
@@Cudgeon I am just saying that people who got Cheated in those love hotels returned and wrote messages after it fell into disrepair. I'm not going into why love hotels exist in the first place. You missed the point
@@warcrafthumanlord Surely no one could have written those messages as a horror story, surely that's not at all more likely -> sarcasm. Maybe your duty should be being quiet.
Also I think you are forgetting that the prostitutes themselves could have written it to be vengeful because the love hotel did ruin their lives .. if there was prostitution going on. Besides, no one is that jealous to go to such lengths .
@@nobitanobi3475 you underestimate people, besides look at the internet, you just have to have differing opinions and people will start calling you names and wish you died... hahhaha it's like oldschool forum pages
Joey: *Shows Chris another scary place* Chris: Are you sure you don't wanna go to the Strawberry farm Me: Wait, deja vu? It's like the Niigata Petting Zoo argument all over again!
The abandoned Love Hotel part was honestly fascinating. I love to learn the history about these sorts of things, why it was abandoned, what happened there and the stories behind it, just like in the classic "Ghost hunter" stories about how people die etc. Fuck. I now want to watch a documentary on this place if one even exists... Chris. Mind making a full blown documentary on a place like this?
honestly abandoned places just fascinate me in general. I have explored a few myself and honestly couldnt recommend it more. Abandoned buildings and structures have an otherworldly atmosphere to them and ignite your sense of adventure like no other activity ever could.
I can finally start watching this series! Being too busy with school works, I wasn't able to get a lot of free time. Now that I'm finished with most school works, I can finally take it easy and spend my free time to watch.
This is exactly how most horror tv shows, movies, games, and even anime starts. People doing things they shouldn’t do, people buying things they should’d buy, people doing to places they should be going, or going through places at the wrong time e.g. forrest in late at night. You guys nailed it ......... Then everything usually goes South pretty fast Have you tried going to Gotemba Premium Outlet? I got a good picture there
Daam even if that pregnant woman story was like fake feels scary af but not the kind of paranormal scary. Is like the one that makes you realize life can be dark and depressing
The moment I've heard that jingle creeping up in the audio background and then coming in full power and all of its glory, my heart became filled with joy. Chris, thank you.
@@AbroadinJapan Well judging from the replies that worked out exactly as I imagined. But jokes aside those landscape shots really looked amazing in 4k, so thank you looking forward to the next one And the real horror here are obviously those Pringles.. I mean come on
I have been so excited for this series. The pandemic here in the US has made this year the loneliest I've ever experienced. Seeing you, Natsuki and Joey going on an adventure together is just what I need. Great episode, look forward to the rest of the series. Stay safe out there Chris!
This was my favorite video of all time. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. It was so unbelievably funny and scary at the same damn time. Just an amazing adventure jam packed into one short film.
The production value is insane. How come I only decided to watch Chris' almost documentary-like vids now? I'M SO ENTERTAINED. Everything from the scoring choices and the shots, to the most engaging way Chris carries himself as a host. This is top-notch stuff.
That was fun, you got a good "Blair Witch Project" vibe going on. A bunch of friends, road trip to abandoned place, minimal preparation or planning and no-one else knows where you going, what good possibly go wrong.
I love how Chris describes his motivations for the trip, and it's not like the bubbly positivity of the average travel blogger. Enthusiasm and excitement to see new places? NO, desperation is the best tool
That's what I love about Chris, he doesn't have the forced positivity that a lot of travel vloggers have. Perhaps that's just his British humour rubbing off on me.
