In the 1950s and 60s my parents hired this cottage for 2 weeks during the summer for our holiday. It had no bathroom, just a tin bath. It was very basic and it belonged to am amazing old couple, Fred and Hilda Hosking, who used to decamp for the summer to a couple of sheds on the hill above the cottage. These holidays are perhaps my most magical memories.
The pandemic has been horrible, but early on in quarantine I discovered Doc Martin. What a find!! Watching it all over again from the beginning with my husband. Totally looking forward to Season 10 - quarantined or not!
So the outside is really only used for the show, they use a made up set for the inside with the reception desk, his office and kitchen. Have watched all the seasons, many more than once, waiting for the 10th in 2021. Will be a sad day when the series does end, love the entire cast, writers and production, thanks to them all for giving us this wonderful gem!
The inside shots of Doc Martin's surgery are filmed at a set the production company use at a nearby farm. The set has been created inside a barn to allow it's use in all weathers.
Thank you for the marvelous tour of such a pretty and cozy resort home. As a painter would take artistic license on canvas, the film makers have done likewise and worked their magic to help us feel that the rooms are spacious through separate sets. Now there is room in the house for us as viewers and there exists an invitation to be included in the life of Doc Martin.
I always knew that they used a studio for the interior shots but I always thought that they would have based the studio off the real house plan but they don’t. I do prefer the actual studio.
That’s so cool. Thank you for the tour! I stayed in Port Isaac 5 years ago for a few nights while visiting England from Canada. I took a special trip down on the train for a few nights from London just to check it all out. I realized later the house can be rented out. I bet the family had too many fans arriving at the door and decided this was a win win. Wondering if Martin stays there while filming? Would feel right at home! Lol.
Thank you so much for this wonderful tour. It is such a lovely cottage with gorgeous views. I could definitely move right in there tomorrow. Thanks again. Can't wait for the new season to begin. I am a HUGE fan of British television. Have a. Blessed day!
I am in Louisiana, USA. I am loving all of the British sitcoms on ACORN. I found Doc Martin, and am now just finishing up the last episode. This is the second time I have watched it fully
I’m not seeing this...La La La La La...my eyes are closed...La la la la la...the house is real and the inside is the real practice and everything is exactly how it is on the show...La La La La La.
This place looks like Williamson, West Virginia, USA. When I first starting watching Doc Martin I almost thought it was West Virginia. We have the Tug Valley River, not the ocean that separates West Virginia and Kentucky. I love this show. Thank you for the wonderful inside tour.
Such a good show. It makes me want to visit Portwenn !!! Another reason to visit Cornwall is that I am originally from Bretagne (northwest of France), and that French Bretons descend from Cornwall (and Wales) people. A recent DNA test showed that my mom has 50% of English blood. Anyway, I always wanted to visit the UK someday.
Quaint little house, looks bigger outside. It's more like a cottage. Rooms are so small. Everything is much bigger in Texas. Our rooms are huge and very spacious. Love Doc Martin, been to Port Isaac, very beautiful village. I miss it, but I also love America. God bless England and God bless America.
that is why the US folk have the biggest environmental footprint of anyone. Bigger is not best. Anyway the homes in Europe are hundreds of years old. Also land in many areas of the world, like here in Vancouver, is so valuable, folk can't afford to build larger homes. Your land must be cheap, aka not in demand.
Wow! WhT a surprise. But we shouldn’t be, right? Well, it’s a fine house, but sure makes for lots of work to shoot those scenes elsewhere. Just love that show. Have been watching for years. Thanks for the tour.
Ah, there you are again. Well I never, TV magic!!! Very nice place though with a stunning view, I bet you had a great time. Take care, happy birthday, GL&HH pal. Deano.
Unfortunately I don't think you'll be able to to that now, as the owner has decided to sell it now the series has come to an end. It was priced at £1.3 million the last time I saw it on Rightmove.......
Love the house. I was expecting it to look somewhat like the show. It is a lot smaller but cozy. Looks like maybe radiant flooring heat in the kitchen. Surprised they don't build a deck to view the ocean near the garden or even near the shed, just a small platform. Thanks for sharing.
That is what they call the magic of film making... I feel cheated now. I demand my money back! LOL Honestly, the house is so cosy. I absolutely love it! Thanks for an exclusive insight.
In USA. Doc Martin is a marvelous series. I have watched it many times.! Since discovering Doc Martin I have watched everything Martin Clunes has acted in and all are very brilliant and worthy of such praise. Thank you for sharing your talent and gift with the world. Are his series for sale to add permanently to have in my library.? If so, how do I obtain them?
A couple of scenes were filmed inside this cottage in the first series. The episode where the young girl (Melanie) has a crush on the Doc. She brings her dog, Mary to the side French Doors in the dining room. Doc is sat at a desk where the dining table is. The dog was one of Martin's own dogs, his beloved Mary Elizabeth. There's another short scene with Doc and Bert (also in the same room) Bert tries to persuade Doc to see patients because the Doc has decided Portwenn isn't for him. But in the end we know Doc stayed.
Charming house, surroundings and views !! Hope to visit someday with my American accent that Doc Martin can't understand because it's too thick!! 😅😃😅 Loved that line he delivered to Sigourney Weaver's character!!! I was ROTFL😅😄😅
Sigourney Weaver is a good friend of the actress who plays Mrs Tishell in the pharmacy. Sigourney Weaver expressed an interest in playing a part in the show, and it was Selina Cadell (Mrs Tishell) whom allegedly did the rest!
@@SouthCoastDetecting The studio is on a farm nearby, and some of the cast get in touch with the farmer to find out when the upcoming series is due to start. Sadly, the final series of Doc Martin goes out in 2022.......
