they sure look beautiful, but they are not made for modern day's comfort or updated idealism. They use "ventilation tower", not the most effective way to circulate air. Philosophically, they cover the actual steelwork behind, which is considered as "covering the truth", or fake, in a modern sense. And with WW2, it's time for people to move on into a revolutionary and optimistic mid-century style, so yeah bye bye Art Deco

His childhood was not charmed. It is those childhood wounds, left unattended, that probably led to his abuse of alcohol and drugs. And, more importantly, to him choosing a woman with the same mental illnesses his abusive mother had that has allowed him to play it out again in his older age. IF he takes this opportunity to confront the wounds and do the hard work, he will grow. He is a great actor, but I’m more concerned in his healing.

@Nokomisclub - I love Johnny Depp but this is what happens when you are unfaithful. He cheated on Vanessa Paradis the mother of his children with Amber. If Johnny were to be a female the cheating would be the only thing people would be talking about, but since he is a man no one is talking about it. Guys always get away with cheating but women don't, they are vilified. This situation with him and Amber is the perfect example of the grass looking greener on the other side. Now at the trial he keeps mentioning how good of a woman Vanessa was, at the end karma always gets you.

Actually not true. In order for him to be attracted to anyone that was problematic in his life, he had to be conditioned as a child - of the acceptance thereof. This is the case for anyone. He says his mother was very abusive and his father allowed the abuse. Both parents play a role in the outcome of future beings. Whether absent in a child’s life - or not. All of these “celebrities” (celebrate) are just - beings. They just make it to a point where they are allowed to hoard all the resources that should be proportionally shared by everyone on the earth!

I’ve lived most of my life in California about 45 min in OC from this building. It’s so interesting to hear about the history. When I heard JD say his ex wife’s sister and friends lived rent free in the penthouses I was amazed. Wow what a kind person who probably get taken advantage of by people around him.

What’s worse is after all the providing a home for these leeches rent free you think they would come out of the wood works and testify in his defence (the least they could do and they know ambers allegations are a crock) like his friend Issac did. I also think issac needs to start paying Johnny rent. His testimony in johnnys defence as loyal and touching as it was he is a grown ass man, Who is in a position where he can afford to and no longer need to take advantage of johnnys generosity.

Just reflect on JD`s kindness and generosity, he has such a loving caring nature, he has faults as we all do but he certaunly isn´t a wife beater, and all his previous wives testify to that as well. So however the end result is from the court, he is a hero for abused men out there including the ones that were murdered by their wives or partners. Abuse is Abuse whatever the gender and should be punishable on an equal footing.

As an artist, I love the color palette used in that one colorful bedroom. The colors are absolute perfection. I always stared at that building whenever I drove by not knowing who lived there. I love the architecture. It's sad that he felt the need to sell it based on bad memories. It was a keeper.

I used to wait for a bus transfer across from this building when it was mostly abandoned in the early 90's. I admired it every day, the grime and neglect could not hide its magnificence.

It is so interesting that people that didn’t care for Johnny’s acting roles, now love/like him. He’s well spoken, a gentleman (based on his videos with Amber or any other woman), caring, loving to his sister and hateful mother until she died, a wonderful father, and a great example of young boys to follow.

When I hear “he decorated it himself,” I don’t assume it means he laid the tile and went to buy all the materials and painted the walls himself. I hear it as he decided what the look and feel should be, and professionals did the work and probably the shopping.

Yeah. That, too. But a lot of people think he did everything which is a bit insulting to the professionals. I have friends who are designers in NYC and LA and they are always a bit hurt when they read interviews when the owners claim they decorated themselves. Depp never made that claim, of course.

It’s really sad Johnny no longer owns that property. So gorgeous as well as the building. Plus the history behind the building itself is an added bonus. If a friend extended an invite for me to reside in one, I would feel like the luckiest person in the world and be forever thankful. Justice for Johnny!

I really like architecture, but I don't often get excited about it. THIS is such an exciting building. Probably starting off with the fact of it being my favorite color from the moment I saw my first piece of turquoise jewelry 64 years ago. Then the magnificent Art Deco design and astonishing details. It is stunning. I wish Johnny could've completely enjoyed every moment of his time here.

This structure is one of my favorite ones in the states. I’ve never seen it in real life but it’s a perfect depiction of how my mind thinks of Art Deco. It’s so simplistuc yet incredibly intricate at the same time. The COLORS alone make think of certain smells and sounds. It’s SO BEAUTIFUL!

Excellent presentation. Thank you so much. There is a similar building in Chicago with elongated American Indians on the exteriors beautiful Pilasters. The former Catalog Company Sears & Roebuck was located in downtown Chicago. My Sears & Roebuck Home was built in the Art Deco Era. It was my grandparents home and I am the Homes proud Steward. The home is titled “The Windsor” named after the late Duke of Windsor who became, for a brief time, King Edward of England who abdicated the throne of England for the woman he loved. That is how Queen Elizabeth’s father ascended to the throne of England. Many books have been written about this English Royal love story that rocked the walls of Parliament and the nation. Many movies have been made about “The Woman He Loved “. Wonderful history!

Those old houses that people bought from catalogues were great. I owned a house built in 1920. In the basement we could see the numbers on the beams for the builders when it was pieced together. Yellow pine moldings. French doors. Glass door handles. 10 ft ceilings. Pocket windows with counterweights in the walls. They don’t make them like that anymore! I should zoom up to Chicago and check out some other historic places besides where Dillinger was shot. 😉

He can be properly credited as the designer without having painted the walls, hung pictures or placed furniture himself. Professional designers do it all the time. They come up with the concept, color palette, specifics of content and then hire others to do most of the labor intensive part. I've even done this in my own house. I'm not sure why it would be so difficult to believe Depp did that much.

What an incredible building, I wish architecture was this grand and vibrant nowadays. Depp's apartments were gorgeous inside too. I guess his enjoyment of them was ruined by what happened with his wife (or maybe he needed the money), he must have had a hell of a reason to sell because those apartments were glorious.

Reportedly he had 100 million reasons he needed to sell. Back taxes from bad business managers meant that Depp had to sell a bunch of hard assets in order to free up the cash to pay off the IRS

He had to sell the condos to pay her plus he lost millions to bad management and lost job opportunities due to Amber’s false claims that he beat her up.

The decorator Johnny used was Laura D - I can’t remember her last name but she was Elon’s home decorator as well. In the testimony in the uk case she said Elon wanted her to be his exclusive designer. Thanks for the video.

I had businesses down the street during the time johnny was there he stole those units for 7.2 m and sold just as too many people were discovering downtown and the time when the cool people all left.

This was a really cool micro-lesson !! The Eastern Columbia Building was amazing , listening about this 13 story building was very interesting. Many changes made as time went on and I love the Art-Deco style, it is certainly a cultural building. 147 condos made , what a great building. Johnny Depp buying 5 penthouses shocked me but really shouldn’t with his money . He let his friends have the other apartments , nice guy , staying in this beautiful Art Deco modern penthouse with large windows etc ….This huge Art-Deco style building looks and sounds like something to see for sure !!

I'd rather be on a farm. Peace and quiet. Sounds great. Downtown LA is nowhere I'd want to be and art deco architecture, even luxuriously kept, depresses me.

I'm blown away by this style of architecture. Whether it's a house or commercial, it represents a moment in time that is uniquely stylish. It always looks expensive to me. Like no cost was spared. What Johnny did for his friend Isaac reminds me of other wealthy patrons of the arts. Very generous indeed. What a friend.

Incredible! I was so curious about this. I couldn’t imagine this building as a department store until seeing the sidewalk view & the ‘zoom in’ thru the doors. Then, to imagine shopping there?! It’s breath-taking. The clock, the color.. wow! It seems appropriate, almost- that JD & Isaac should be honored with a building plaque of recognition for putting such a historic building in the spotlight. I think I’ll always see it as Mr. Baruch described it in the trial. Thank you.

Such a beautiful building I could imagine the views from those patios. Johnny Depp had a beautiful lifestyle and ever wanted anything but to help people out Amber took advantage of that and so did her free loading gold digging friends it is my hope that he gets Justice and she gets served big time!

It's like living in a 5 star hotel all your life!! What Johnny did for Issac was so kind and Issac wasn't a taker like Elaine attempted to showcase at trial. Issac seemed so grateful and humbled by Johnny's kindness!!

The interior decorator was identified a long time ago. She even testified in his UK trial against The Sun. So he did not decorate them.

Awwww ...I didn't know he had to sell his 5 Penthouses in 2017...probably to pay ATurd $14m & her wine bill. He had lived in the Penthouses for years but 15months with ATurd & they're sold. Johnny also had to sell his yacht but luckily JK Rowling bought it.

I’ve been in the Eastern Columbia building. It’s one of the old buildings in an inner city of LA. There are some artists I visited there. Art Deco is my favorite style.

I am sure he sold them because of the bad memory and all that stress that Amber caused him in that place. He lost a lot money by selling them and even worse he lost a lot of good memories he had in that building.

Fascinating! I love old architecture and Art Deco is one of my favorite. I always admired the Beelman Security Building in downtown Phoenix, whenever I had occasion to visit the area. It is done in the Second Renaissance Revival style, but bears the same esthetics and construction as the ECB, although itself a municipal building. Interesting fact: the original Security Company that commissioned the building in 1928, was headed by a president whose name was, Dwight Heard.
