Can you hear the footsteps echo in these halls? When time and nature shows us how all of us can fall. Without love or care we fall into despair and like this empty home that stands oh so forlorn, this saddens me so for once this was a home... 🏰 Ruby* Some places call to you and this one did for me. Heartbreaking to see such beauty disregarded. Thank you for showing us, I appreciate all you do for us in showing us all these forgotten places. Wishing you a lovely weekend...

What a stroke of luck! Much thanks to generous Bob. We did get to see inside after all Oddie! That makes me happy. I think it could be saved. The roof needs a lot of work and clearing out the junk would take awhile, but the bones are still good. All the wonderful old fireplaces and woodwork and doors are still there. I hope your plea is heard by the officials of the town. It deserves to be saved,❤ and when they save it, they should put up a plaque giving credit to you. Or a commission from the B&B...or both!

What a heartbreaker. You could see the quality of workmanship and materials that were used in the building of this grand lady. I can still imagine it in happier days filled with life in all the grandeur of a vanished age. What must it have been like to live alone in something this size, and to have to watch it grow shabby and decayed around you, and not know how to stop it. This would have been a woman of a time, not so long ago in the grand scheme, when women were so often made helpless and dependant upon the wiser heads of men. Thank you Oddie, so sweet to bring this to us so quickly. Health and happiness to you and Odette Dear Man.🖤🇨🇦

Yes it's very sad Tamarra, I wonder how it looked even 30 years ago? One of my followers Beth Faulkner, suggested this: "It's the Château of story book legends. If one killer series like a Gothic Romance genre was written using the house as back drop tons of people would visit. Anne Rice managed to do this." I think that's a great idea! Another viewer a short time ago, estimated a full restoration at Euro 15 million....that's not small change. Thank you my friend for your blessings and much appreciated! :) We're wishing the same for you both xx

Thanks so much for this. Well done to Bob for allowing you to use his video. Loved your narration, as always. That stained glass window on the stairwell is breathtakingly beautiful. If the current owner, now in a care home, had inherited the house, much of the contents may be heirlooms from family. Interesting to see the alarm motion sensors throughout. Beautiful, as it was at one time, I wouldn’t want to live there alone. It would be wonderful if you could trace her son and ask more about how his mother came to own it. I want to know more 🧐. I wasn't expecting anything quite like the palatial house left by Monsieur Mantin but this was pitiful, the sorrowful eyes on one of the taxidermied deer- a doe I think, she looks for eternity with such a deep sense of the loss of her forest- like opening a jewel box, in child-like expectation and finding a lump of coal or worse. But still marvelous- some paintings, stained glass and yes the fireplaces and the records the town should have- I would buy ANYTHING FROM THIS HOUSE IF I COULD. Thanks from an Oddite to the people from channel who were so kind- I will check them out too when I get time- getting a new laptop set up and experiencing nightmares! Hugs Have a great and safe weekend luv Zoe- don't you miss those kamikaze days of flashlights, wire cutters etc- breaking in- I make us sound like real felons, jewel thieves but when I was younger I used to attempt to get into abandoned places too! Looking up - that stained glass window- THAT breaks my heart- in my humble abode I have a window purchased for 130.00 CDN and "mended" for another 100.00- it hangs on my landing in front of the window and when the sun hits it- stained glass is SO expensive here and much in demand- there is a house in nearby Toronto does or did belong to a folksinger and she has on her second level landing a massive window and it is one of the reasons she won't sell- was the lady living here a relative of the original owner? I don't know too much about Tiffany and Co. but he was French- imagine if that window is Tiffany- like Mr. List's ceiling! Oops did it again- ran on in my P.S.- depression- I don't think I need to keep that private as many people suffer from it, it robs me of my memory, my vocabulary has shrunk- I wish to email you in private though about a story from "duller" Canada- don't get me wrong I love my country, I am patriotic and actually I am proud we have virtually no serial killers but, I did come across an Edwardian case...I should have written it down- could you let me know- luv Zoe. I WON'T BE BUGGING YOU AND DUMPING PROMISE JUST ABOUT A CASE AND WELL 1 sorta personal thing...Zoegashly

Yes Oddie, Yes, such a tragic loss to history! Could it be saved, can't say, but if it is to be, something needs doing very soon. Still, there were some nice pieces that survived and needs to be cared for. Still would have loved to be the one in there. Love the bannister on the stairs. One curious thing I noticed, was the figure on the stairs. Young lady in white with a post behind her and her hands folded immediately put me in mind of someone out of French history. Joan of Arc, my favorite figure of French history. She was burned at the stake in Rouen, France at the age of 19 by the English during the Hundred Year War between England and France. Fascinating to find that there, if that is, in fact, what it is. Still one of my favorites from history.. As a school-age child, I read everything I could my hands on about her. Well, curiosity appeased, but so sad to see it that way. I too had hoped it would have been better preserved than that. Many thanks to Bob for the tour video so we could see inside. well done Oddie that was amazing footage you found! So sad the place is in such disrepair. I absolutely agree with you the French government should do more to preserve gems like this Chateau. The likes of which will never be built again. The red wallpaper at 9:26 looks to be original fabric wallpaper, I wonder if it is silk? You eluded the squirrel man somehow at least, but our 18th century vampiress remains ever elusive. Perhaps she has sought refuge in one of our many elegant regency town houses here in England! I envision a Vampire walking amongst dark candle lit hallways, Red velvet and red silk, delicate tapestries, eerie music playing in a ballroom on the main floor, yet no one there to dance, ornate furniture, hand carved, hand painted, HUGE portraits with eyes that follow you around...secret passages, skeleton keys on a chain in hand as the vampire walks through the halls,..Hearing wolves in the distance, the moon is out to play with the night...hehe..My heart goes out to the elderly lady, she most likely had no family around, and she herself fell into disrepair mentally along side her once glorious chateau :-( THANK YOU ODDIE..another interesting find for the books...hehe ((HUG))

Thank you Oddy! When I saw the collapsed second floor, I knew it was gone, but thank you for showing us what you could.

So many beautiful architectural areas in this chateaux. The staircase is so beautiful. This place should be saved. It makes me sad that this once grand place sits now sad and lonely.

aw what a shame. I agree what a shame that they have allowed this to fall apart. I guess I have to agree with Oddi, that it would be nice to clean it up and restore it. I am so happy we got the opportunity to see it. Such a heart breaker, but its still enchanting.

When the pool table was shown my brain went to music and a grand party. 🥂 cheers to days gone by.

My Dear Oddie : It was very nice of Bob to give you permission to share his visit inside the : " Enchanted Chateau ." Please pass all of our thanks along ! Seeing the interior of this decaying manson from an earlier time was bewitching but albeit sad also . Melancholy because that time and the lady who lived there have long since gone . Painfully sad and tragic that nobody with power or influnce has taken an interest in restoring and preserving this local historical treasure . Hopefully , perhaps your & Bob's videos will draw some attention to it . I'm looking forward to your upcoming Haloween special . Thanks again for all of the work you do . Take Care , & may God Bless you ! Steven

I’m fascinated by the Kennedy family in the USA. Grey Gardens Jackie’s family going from wealth to squalor. Love your videos sir. Gorgeous home, so very sad.

Such a waste and a shame. This was once a beautiful and stately chateau that people just don't care about anymore. Thanks Oddy❤

This is so sad. At the very least it seems that a few days of salvage could be done to save the books and documents, photos and furniture. It looks like a pile of garbage but if you look carefully there are thousands of dollars worth of antiques that would sell quickly to collectors.I never can quite understand why so much history that could be saved with just a few days of work is allowed to rot and ruin. Thanks for sharing.
