@@turtle2pond All people should have homes. Not all people without homes are on drugs. Many, many people use drugs and have homes and jobs. The homeless can't afford to pay for all of the drugs being sold in this country.
Excellent point, la county land, barracks for men, barracks for women, work programs, not unlike the California Conservation Corps. Stipend for food and housing, $15.00 an hour.

I don't even live on the West Coast but this makes me highly angry. And yes please fire the whole staff and make them pay that money back. Mandatory Community Service sounds perfect for these non humans .. Make them actually feed the homeless something they hate!
The food was expired because the bums wouldn't take it and under California law they can't try to serve it again because it's been without refrigeration. The whole program is a poorly thought-out waste.
Seems like the employees don't like there jobs. They need to be fired. Maybe then they might need the food that's being thrown away. Fired these tyrants.
So obviously there is no supervision of these workers. Most jobs have some kind of oversight to make sure that workers who are independent in the field are doing what they are paid to do. When I worked the Census, we had to check in frequently with supervisors, and our leaders could show up and join us in the field at any time to see where we were with our work. You can't just turn people loose and hope that they are choosing to do a task that they can easily choose not to do if they get paid the same either way.
Outreach needs accountability. Heidi was advocating for more pay for them to just drive around! Other departments have to have outcomes but outreach just gets to do what they want because they are out in the field. They just run the clock out and have no results. Waste of tax payer money. The people that want shelter know where to go. What they need to do is put a homeless case worker at every dpss office so the resources are completely accessible. Everyone knows how to apply for benefits so they can apply for homeless services at the same office.
The average LAHSA salary ranges from approximately $65,935 per year for a Data Analyst to $96,082 per year for a Manager. L.A. tax payers money going down the drain and it's making the homeless situation worse.
Check .....California Transparent, they probably were authorized overtime on top of base salary. And I would be curious what supervisors credit card purchases would reveal. Gas cards ect.
If their paying these staff employees to do NOTHING!! It makes me Wonder what Management is being paid to do!! Certainly not to Supervise their employees!! This is a Disgrace!!
This should've been the lead story & other stations should play it too. I'm so sick & tired of how "gov't workers" are allowed to slack off! When are the people going to wake up & get rid of these bums? Start with Gavin!!!
The employees of and lhasa (?) are criminals. From the top to the lowliest employee. This is so disgusting and despicable. What they are doing with the food but what they aren't doing with and for the homeless. All of them should have to pay back every penny they stole by NOT working but also pay for the waste of all that food! Pathetic!
They should be required to pay for the food charge with theft of government property. They threw boxes of in the trash passing by homeless camps driving around to different places to accumulate milage. This is a disgrace when people there's people in need of food.
I'm from Colorado I see the Los Angeles news you're making those people suffer and it's not okay make these people accountable don't let it go away they're homeless on the streets there it's terrible
I use to work at the grocery stores in the Deli. All the food that didn't sale in the hot section at night like chicken that we made that night went in the trash. This was 30 years ago. I use to ask can we have it or homeless they said no. So much food tossed. In the trash it went.
This makes me upset because not only are food and drinks and boxes being wasted by being thrown in the trash but people that may need some of the services offered are only being left out as trash. Thanks, David for doing this story!

I was told if they gave the food than people would get sick and they would be responsible. The grocery stores and they just didn't want to give it to the homeless because they said it would enable them.
They're putting the food in the garbage can because after they get off work they come back and steal the food out of the garbage can. They do that all the time at homeless shelters I watch them still food from people when I was in a shelter before
They should not be throwing out the food but I wonder if they don’t bother because they encounter the same homeless people in the same area everyday who don’t take the food and do not accept any other help or services. But with taxpayer funded money; they need to get creative to get people to accept the help that they need or be honest and say that what they’re doing is not helping and is a waste of taxpayer money

That's the problem you have to deal with. People doing wrong and still being so arrogant and not showing any remorse. That's criminal and inhuman. You were employed to do precisely the opposite. That must be prosexhtable. And look how healthy they look.
Obviously they dont have to buy food....sure boxed food is at their house. Probably a side hustle as well, take the food out of box, food truck out of the garage
i mean they're getting paid to drive around and do absolutely nothing because they're just throwing it away... Ive dealt with outreach workers myself and let me tell you... mostly useless. a few good one but 80%-90% useless got the job because they know a person type people.
