Our hidden cameras caught employees with the LA Homeless Services Authority throwing away cases of food meant to be distributed to those less fortunate.
The fact that these employees don't even have the consideration to help the homeless is bad enough, but the whole organization being corrupt, I say shut it down!
I agree -- shut them down and prosecute the managers and executives. We don't need to look overseas at the 3rd world countries for waste and corruption -- just look around here at home in the good old USA. Very disappointing indeed.
No because they're too damn lazy and don't give a s*** about nobody but themselves they're the scumbags and greedy and playing out lazy lazy lazy greedy greedy greedy I should be reported to the IRS you know tax you can pay that money 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑💰🤑🤑
Because these agencies are in it for the federal money and not to help people. You would be shocked how wealthy these people who run these agencies are and no one is ever housed.
Both the employees and LAHSA should be held accountable, but the person or board that approved the $800 million contract should also be held accountable for not ensuring that LAHSA was using the money properly, but the court system is lazy and pathetic and LAHSA probably won't be held accountable
I didn't hear them mention expiration dates. 🧐 I am well aware that expiration dates are not 💯, but the agencies are not allowed to hand out expired foods due to the liability of potential sickness. Also, some foods do go bad, even in one day.
Used to live in L.A and sadly had to leave, seeing this report is absolutely appalling and have family there we used to go downtown LA to the rescue mission to help just so sad😪
Thank you for this investigation. I was unaware there were agencies feeding the homeless community. And to see one of the agencies workers heartless actions. Just appalling. Glad to hear this one agency is gone. Again, thank you
FIRE EVERYONE!! Breaks my heart that the less fortunate are treated in such a way. I hope they have stopped sending funding and reallocate that money to an organization who will be accountable in doing what is right.
Anyone who wants to do this should just call me up instead I’ll Gladly go and pick that up and give it to the homeless disgusting how people like these are throwing food away!!!
Fire them and then what? LA is still filled with the same elected officials who were suppose to not let this happen from the start. 5th largest economy in the world yet this state is a total dump
Fired!? They need to be arrested and charged. They are robbing all tax payers not only by throwing away the food, but by not doing their fucking job. I don't want to pay these fuckers to go shopping.
@look up what is the end result though. I don't get the point of "helping the homeless" if it just becomes a permanent cost that you keep paying up. Unless it takes homeless people off the streets, it shouldn't be considered. It might seem harsh, but just providing help to homeless people merely increases the population of homeless in a city. It should only be given with a requirement that they go get a job, take drug tests to show they are clean, etc..
@@simonphoenix3789 there are people on the streets that cannot work, hungry every day, alone and with noone. Sometimes these people take drugs to escape their reality for a short time cause they don't have any other options for real help. You cannot judge people who are going through a hell you yourself couldn't imagine, they all need help, regardless what your twisted opinion is of them or thier daily struggles.
This is really sad and it’s no accident. Doing something like this on purpose really upsets me. I remember my mom sometimes would make too much food so my dad would bring it to the city and give it to homeless people or leave it in areas he knew homeless people would sometimes sit.
This is why I choose to give food to homeless people directly, not through donations to an organization. These types of organizations are hard to trust, and this video is just one of many available examples.
I work in fast food and it’s already frustrating that we as employees MUST throw away any unused food that doesn’t go to the customer to “prove a point” that you can’t get free things. I tried taking a sandwich once that’s been sitting for about an hour in the extra chute knowing it’s going to be thrown away, but when one of the managers saw me, they told me we can’t keep free things??? However, seeing perfectly good food funded by MY tax money going straight to the dumpster is disgusting. Shame on these employees 😔👎🏽
I worked for a gift shop and the district manager would come in and cut up papyrus greeting cards which are very pretty and expensive since they were discontinued she would do this instead of giving them to employees what a byotch
I did the same. Tacos were getting tossed so I took them home and was so relieved my son and I didn't have to worry about dinner that night. They tried to fire me but the assistant manager understood my stance. She declined my suggestion to leave them for the poor but at least I kept my job. This was about 15 years ago but I still remember it.
When I was a kid and poorer, some of the homeless would share meals like that with me. There's many students, elementary, high school, or college who would appreciate that food.
So true. I remember my first year of college trying to make $10 last a week. I did it but at what cost?! Colleges shouldn’t be charging $200 for books and you have to pay per unit and don’t even get me started on parking. My point is a lot of people go hungry to make ends meet and seeing this is being disgusting. Why even take a job when you know you hate the homeless?!
I was shocked in 2012 how many kids were going hungry bcuz their parents were on drugs. A child was going hungry. The mom wouldn't feed the child the food the school sent home so the school made a deal with the Apt Manager to store food in her office so the child could eat. If your school has a backpack program, please donate
Thank God there is real true journalists out there who are willing to invest themselves into real stories that show problems within society! Thank you guys and your staff for reviling the truth about these agencies who are only entrusted to help others...but also getting paid to do it. JAIL THEM!!
@Doug Devine It’s the book revelation out of the Bible. All the signs are they’re. Yes people are becoming more evil and wicked. They’re are many occult’s,witches, satanist running around doing whatever they want. America is in need of help
it's crazy how counterintuitive and irrational the organizations are to our society. like it doesn't even make sense. the food is already paid for. even if u don't like the homeless, this is just dumb

That's disgusting!! All of the workers were wasting time ,eating, and shopping and they got paid for doin that!! Can't even just hand out all the food but rather throw it away!!
They’re all people of color who do know the concept of charity. Only White people have the charitable heart. I am Asian and i am a recipient of White people’s charity.
By definition , taxation is theft … and this story is not an outlier . Government is wasteful beyond belief . ALL GOVERNMENTS! Too bad most of the taxed proles are too brainwashed or too ignorant to understand this
@@moonshoes11 while I completely agree and could also input on Gods apparent lack of "power" or "will" to feed everyone alive. You and I most likely eat well enough, so all I am saying is, we should appreciate that God "decided" to let you eat today. Hence why its a sin.
A family member was manager of produce dept of a huge grocery store. She told me that everyday, they threw tons of food into a giant trash compacter 'the size of your living room'. She worked to have the perfectly, good food donated but that didn't last very long before various problems arose & they stopped it.
What problems? I'm curious. I know for a fact shelter workers steal food and all other donations before the homeless see it. These workers get first pick to everything. It's corrupt.
This is unacceptable. Those responsible need to be fired! Too lazy to do their job! People are out here starving and need that food. The contract with that agency needs to be terminated asap! Find another agency that will get that job done!
LA Homeless Services Authority = Government. It's not a "nonprofit". Communism never changes. It's always an utter disaster, especially at feeding people. People will literally starve to death while the government throws away and hoards food
This is horrendous!! That woman didn’t have to answer any questions she’s on camera throwing away good food. This is good investigative journalism! This is just unreal!
the employees are not throwing away good food. They are collecting it in one big dumpsters because that's where bums get their food! Homeless people get food in trash
I love this! $800 million of taxpayers money! Everyone should be up in arms! These people are a cancer to any society. They will get what they deserve.
This is how news reports should be. We need to be aware of things like this. They are awfully comfortable doing this for a reason. Taxpayer money is being wasted like crazy.
They throw out food because if they give it away and someone gets sick, they can file a lawsuit and the company would be liable. Blame this lawsuit happy society for why companies don’t give food away.
@@JohnSmith-gz5pm Maybe you wasn't paying attention, they said the meal bags have water bottle, snacks cookies, they even through out unopened boxes. You can easily open a meal bag & remove food items that won't spoil from room temperature.
Giving anyone money to provide food to the homeless while not monitoring them intensively is asking for this sort of abuse? Why is it falling to news investigators to uncover this sort of corruption. Thank you KCAL!
I always leave one grain of rice on my plate just for the little cricket who lives in my trash bin. He takes it inside his little milk carton cottage and carves it up for his whole family. And if I put my ear very close, I can hear them praying to me right before supper.

Man this is a sad selfish world we live in. They all deserve to be fired. I kept hoping you were going to find at least one team doing their actual job in the right way.
Great job David!! What a disgrace, throwing out perfectly good food like that! Lazy, lazy workers, just getting paid to shop, screw around, and waste tax payer money. This makes me so mad! At least leave the boxes off at the homeless mission. 😠
@Jefferson Jeff Sounds like you've never been homeless either. She's just venting, let her be. She's got justified outrage - and you are just nitpicking, spoiling for an argument.
Everyone that did that needs to be fired, arrested and charged with theft and made to reimburse every single penny that food cost. This is unacceptable. Nothing but laziness.
the employees are not throwing away good food. They are collecting it in one big dumpsters because that's where bums get their food! Homeless people get food in trash
LA also spends 2 billion a year on salaries on people supposedly helping the homeless. They could use that money and build apartments every year to house the homeless
right. the economy which is bigger than nations .sure there's a lot of homeless for many reasons but CA can't say they don't have the resources available .this is an easy fix. create construction project and hire people who can build or fill low skill labor employe some of these people who can do it and build more solid homes. even if they are small or cost effective place. temporary homes or whatever. CA is not that hard for cash
They need to be fired immediately. The height of inefficiency. Throwing away food that is edible is soooo inefficient plus they are being paid for doing nothing.
This isn't inefficiency. This is heartlessly evil. Throwing away food that could help a starving homeless person. They could have just given it to soup kitchens, etc. They supposed to be outreaching, but drove around aimlessly. This NOT inefficiency.
@@TrungNguyen-td1to huh? Look up the definition of inefficient "not achieving maximum productivity; wasting or failing to make the best use of time or resources." What those people are doing points to that definition.
@spirals 73 No it does not denote passivity. Look up the meaning of denote. 🤦♂ and look up the meaning of passivity. Passivity doesn't even apply here. Maybe the word you are looking for is laziness or deceitfulness. Of course, the action is deliberate. Who said it wasn't? They throw away food because they want to be able to slack off and do nothing for the rest of the day instead of doing the job they are being paid. Did you not watch the video? But the point is they are wasting resources. Food and money. And that is inefficiency!
@@jakephillips4453 I'm suggesting that they're not even attempting to give the food to the homeless. To failed at something, one must attempt. In another words, to be inefficient you must achieved the bare minimum (above 0), which they're not.
I would love to have an update. Hopefully they fired those employees and actually have supervisors just pop up to make sure they are giving those meals away.
These POS should be behind bars period, there’s no excuse for what they did and for what they have been doing without being caught. LAHSA needs to be disbanded and those in charge should be investigated and placed behind bars for knowingly allowing this to continue under their watch.
So many working poor, students, even college students would be so grateful for one of those prepared lunches. Where were supervisors an program administrators?

Man, this kind of thing makes me angry. As a former homeless person, I can tell you that it's most frustrating thing is to see food being thrown away. But when its actually earmarked for the needy and the people who are supposed to be distributing it are the ones throwing it away, it's disgusting. And they are doing it on the tax payer/donator dime. More investigations like this should be done.
As some who is formerly homeless as well I hate to say it but it is nothing new. Staff will take donated items and food for themselves regularly or know about certain services, but will not disclose them. Smh it is a mess. They only want the money not the people that comes with it.
Taking Good Food and Just throwing it in the Trash, is PURE EVIL. People that lives on the Streets can Benefit, No one should go Hungary. And as Far of this Bagel Shop, Customers should Never Patronize that Shop Again, Those Employees should be Arrested. When the Reporter tried to Interview the Both of Them, They took off like a Runaway Train. Good Investigating Reporter!
Everyone involved should be held accountable. The employees definitely should be reprimanded or removed, and the management team and administrators of LAHSA should have to respond as to why it took a news investigation report to discover what they should have known and dealt with before it even got that far… …
In reality, only the employees would be fired. The management would pretend they have nothing to do with this. And management would fire the employees for "misconduct".
Yeah. "Everyone should be held.........blah, blah" ......why try to do something instead of blogging like me. Pull a Pol Pot, get some skeletons in your closet.

The next company will be just as curpurt. People don't understand that this is a multi billion dollar industry in California. They're creating homeless people by letting them do drugs and built illegal structures on the sidewalk to encourage more people to come to los Angeles because they have billions to spend and steal
Those employees should be fired. That company should lose the contract to distribute food to the homeless because they are clearly pretending to help the homeless while gladly taking the money. All of the agencies and companies need frequent audits. Corruption is everywhere. Government employees are the worst.
ayo... its the government telling them to throw it away... why would they care how bronze people live.. they got $800 million dollars in funding... how much do you think all that food costs? anywhere near 800mil? lol
I would rather they leave it out front or take it home rather than what they did. Not to mention I'm sure they are getting gas vouchers knowing gas is like 8 bucks out there. Just disgusting and I hope that they fall on hard times and remember what they did. Sick sad world.
When was the last time you attended a city council meeting? works needs to be done in LA & the residents don't really seem to care crime infested, poverty rates, & corrupt officials stealing their money.

This is so upsetting! We're a church feeding people and run out because we don't have enough at times and to see this really is heartbreaking! They must not know what it is to be homeless or be hungry, I pray the Lord humble them and show them humility...they too can be one paycheck away from being in that position..
They make base 50k a year in LA, they’re 100% one paycheck away from homeless. Which honestly might be the reason they are doing this, working long hours doing menial labor is not good for a person so people naturally try to make it as easy as possible and to cut corners so their life isn’t any more stressful. Though I’m not sure how much this applies to this specific situation.
@@arlaux1099 I was thinking the exact same thing you said about them also being a paycheck from homeless, but throwing perfectly good food away, instead of even storing it at home at the end of the work day, to make the job easier, nah that's straight up wrong and sick. I don't think they even had to go far for Someone to take it off their hands. There has to be more to this story.
You'd be really heartbroken if you seen how much food banks throw away on a daily basis...literal tons...I use to work at one...the amount we threw away daily could've fed all the homeless in the city daily.
The hidden reason why they are throwing the food away is because the government is paying homeless people in LA to stay homeless. If there needs are met with donated food, then they won't need to be paid for staying homeless. It's a ploy to keep the city in disarray so that the public loses more money and more power and the leadership of California gains more money and more power. Simple as that.
they need to fire the employees who throw the meals away, like who had a whole day to feed homeless (doesn't seem hard task to do) and decided to that move, that's disgusting human behavior
Right! Driving around giving out food to the homeless as a job would be dope! I'd feel good about myself finally doing something good for the community.
This is atrocious on so many levels. I mean, if you're too lazy to do a job you're literally being paid to do, then just set the boxes out with the homeless people and leave. Don't throw it in the trash. Those people need that food. Just wow. 🤬
Every employee who threw good food away should be fired and prosecuted for theft. Every employee who spent a large part of their work day shopping, walking around and not doing their job should be fired.
Public sector attracts people who want to get paid whether they do their job or not … their source of income is tax money and we get put in jail if we don’t pay their salary (our taxes).. their bosses get paid whether they care or not too.. why work extra hard and help people when you don’t care about either of those things? .. that’s why I am a libertarian… I know we need infrastructure in place, but the system is so bloated, billions gets wasted in the public sector with employees just like these
Which is a good thing they’re disbanding the company An starting a new one. Screw those who threw the food away. Let’s see them try to get with the new company. Those people should be ashamed. What’s so hard about taking food to people in need An giving it to them? A lot of laziness going on. They spend more time eating An shopping than they did doing what they’re paid to do.
My boyfriend worked at a Walmart in Arizona last year, doing delivery pick up. Somehow one day the whole building lost all power, and used up all the generators’ power. So they had to shut down the store. Which is very rare. They quickly realized they didn’t have enough power to save the refrigerated food/meat/dairy. So they tried to buy and sell as much as the refrigerated stuff as they could before the generators ran out, and then took whatever bulk of it they could fit into their cars and drove it over to the local food bank for families in need. Obviously not a Walmart decision, but it was amazing to see caring people do stuff like that.
Man, it’ll be our own demise. The stats suggest that 80-90% of the population will starve when either the power goes out or it becomes too dangerous for truckers to deliver goods. And it will, at some point soon.
Such a disgrace to be throwing all that good food away, especially coming from tax payer money. LAHSA needs to be done with, not one more employee should collect a paycheck for not doing their job. Ridiculous.
I've worked in multiple restaurants where we would be forced to throw the extra food away instead of providing it to a homeless shelter in Syracuse, NY. Another restaurant I worked at in Virginia, I was punished for giving a new cook the leftover mac and cheese we would hot hold for service. Never in my life would I EVER keep food from a hungry person, that's just disgusting.
Whole foods of usq had us tossing foods in the dumpster in 2010 the old man security guard would be asleep and anyone could open dumpster and take all the foods. They were still in excellent condition. Soups salads sandwiches pizzas and the like...
where I worked, the owners order lots of foods from their parents restaurant for the employees and a lot of kabab....etc was still on the table at the end of the day....so the owner order the employees to trash the food, but I was there so I didn't let them trash the food so I took the food home and shared with family.....etc it's insane to trash fine food.
I used to work at a pizza joint who would throw away dozens of pizzas each night. So I started cooking them with the oven that was already on and throwing a few pizzas in 1 box to hand out to someone when I walked to my car. I got in trouble for that. Apparently those boxes cost more money than it's worth feeding hungry people. Smdh. I quit shortly after.
I went to culinary school in San Diego, they had a policy not to give away or take home any food. Guess they had been sued by someone for allegedly getting sick. Most likely it was the person that received the free meal not being responsible and leaving the food in a non safe environment for extended amount of time. So we threw out at a minimum of 2000 pounds of fresh safely cooked food every day of the week. Our culture is collapsing into idiocracy
In South Dakota they give us expired food... Not as an anomaly but for years and years... Hurts to see someone tossing good food, but it's not surprising!
Food box distributions saved my life. I lived in a homeless youth transitional center, so thankfully I had a roof over my head. The fact that I even volunteered to give food to actual homeless people that were on the streets just to be kind and these people are getting paid for it and still won’t do it… so sad and shows how heartless and evil they are! No empathy!! Food is sacred you don’t ever let anyone starve.
obvious you've never been homeless. homeless people are just like us. they don't want that school lunch/government cheese shit. it's stale and comes without any mayo or mustard.
@@ohmusicsweetmusic lol have you ever gone to salvation corp food box distributions? They have organic bread, organic chicken, fish, eggs, fruit veggies and snacks. I would get Organic veggies & Costco + Albertsons’ donations from there and other local distributions. Safe House provides a lot of good food as well. Not every food box distribution is bad… The food that these homeless people could have gotten, are not even bad.. i saw wheat, fruit, water etc when you’re hungry, you eat what you can. You don’t have to be a homeless to know that. And every pre lunch I’ve ever gotten has mayo ketchup and mustard.. depends again where you go.. I don’t eat dairy so personally that never bothered me.
It’s appalling how overweight the employees are to see them throw food away from those who are literally starving. The fact that this has been going on and on without monitoring and accountability of tax payer money makes me think about all the other things beside this that people are getting away with.
That's how selfish they are as long as their belly's were full they could care less about the real people out here with nothing to eat and this is what they get paid for.i am so freaking mad Yet I am not surprised, what a total waste.
This stuff goes on all the time. I would bet 80 percent of people today in charge look for how they can benefit themselves before others. We are living in the last 15 years of the earth
Nonprofits are mostly a scam. 90% of their money is consumed by administration costs, less than 1% goes to actually help their cause. Which is about the same as how much effort goes to helping the cause they say they are for. Most of their efforts go to acquiring more funding.
In a day and age where people expect everything to just be given to them including journalists this was an exceptionally fine piece of investigative journalism
