Fan voting is probably the worst way to do any type of all star roster because it’s all bias and feelings over facts. Fans wanted to vote klay in even during years where he literally didn’t play. The idea of dame being so high up this year even though his play has been mad inconsistent is wild. Both tyrese’s, brunson, trae young, and donovan mitchell have all been better
Man I agree so much! As a jazz fan, I personally can see why Markkanen wouldn’t make it this year based on how LOADED the west is with front court guys. But some of these dudes from like 5-10 in the fan vote is so wrong. I love Wemby, but having him over Lauri makes no sense. Spurs have won -5 games.
Love how Chuck give Myles the recognition. He may not make it in the final roster, but to acknowledge his efforts this season and be mentioned in the conversation, is good enough to build on for next season! 💯
For good or ill, Myles will be judged by the next 9 Pacers games if he cooks without Halliburton. He will get some love. It would be nice to have two Pacers since the game is in Indy.
I don't get how charles wants Myles to be an all star and immediately said no to jarrett allen. Jarrett is a much better defender and the offensive stats are very close (Jarrett shoots almost 15% higher from the field)
@@matttim5095 He's literally their best option. They traded away 2 players who were capable of going for 20 and now they only have Randle and Brunson. They both have the same field goal percentage. Brunson shoots WAY better from 3 and gets more assists with less turnovers than Randle. The Knicks need him to be the number one option. If you think Julius Randle averaging 3 turnovers and 5 assists isn't going to carry the Knicks far.
@@TheWiIIiamAfton Wrong!!! None of the guys you mentioned are better than Jalen Brunson. This is exactly the reason I said He's underrated. You can't even explain how those guys are better than Brunson. I'm taking Brunson over all those guys you mentioned.
Even as a bball fan who loves sga and think he deserves the spot, we all want to watch steph drop 50 at the all star game. All star without steph just doesnt hit the same
It's disgusting that most people believe the Lakers should have 2 all stars when they're 11th seed and not even in the play-in picture right now. There are teams that deserves to have 2 all stars over the Lakers: clippers, kings, wolves, etc.
Its the all *STAR* game and Brunson isn't a well known star player outside of New York, he's a helluva damn player but all-star games are about putting on a show and Brunson's little midrange shots and floaters aren't very exciting for fans of other teams to watch.
@@bitcoinethereum9702how do you get we’ll know by playing well and making it on the Allstar game y’all want to reduce it to a popularity contest so bad it’s tired
It's wild how KAT is one of the only players to be 50-40-90 in the NBA this season and he was hardly mentioned. Same with DPOY Rudy despite these players being on the #1 seed in the West.
He definitely doesn’t deserve to make it sga doncic jokic kd kawhi lebron davis booker edwards fox curry sabonis George towns markannen harden Ingram zion i just named 18 players as fun ain’t sniffing the all star team 😂
I want to see him but they're gonna have like 2, maybe 3 centers max from the West. Jokic is a lock for starter. Than you have AD, Sabonis and Wemby. I do think Şengün is much better than Wemby and has performed more consistently than AD but the agenda to put Wemby and AD as all-stars might affect Şengün's chances of making it this year. Wemby leads rookies in 4 of the 5 statistical categories and leads the entire league in blocks per game. And AD had a monster stretch at the start of the year and he has been great defensively all year.
@@nisay6148 sabonis clears sengun substantially not much of a debate there. i didnt mention chet holmgrem either. ingram is leading a quality team while sengun is leading a 9th seed. keep in mind i dont even have ingram, zion or markannen or chet making it but they all have a debatable case over sengun. if sengun cant even clear these guys who has no shot at sniffing the all star team.
@@ozzee5094sengun destroyed both of them when they played against each other. Also Sengun is on a winning team and the best player of that team. Both of those guys are not even the best player of their team.
In the past Timberwolves stars like KAT or ANT have had their all star cases diminished by people saying their record isnt good enough, even though theyd have better stats then guys on the top teams that make it. But now that the wolves are the #1 seed the narrative changes? Now theres borderline play-in teams getting 2 all stars while the 1 seed timberwolves should only get one? No consistency
Shaq likes to say yes to everyone and when there are not enough spots, he’ll say I don’t care he should be an all star. Shaq is only here for entertainment. Not his basketball knowledge or four rings. Only saying this as an analyst. He was one of the greatest to play the game.
@@somemale Where is the entertainment though? Has been lacking for couple of years now. He is still pissed Chuck is the number one guy on the show and there is nothing he can do about it.
The NBA has the same problem as the NFL in the sense that Allstar selections, like the pro bowl, have gravitated towards being a popularity contest rather than recognizing the league's best players. Doesn't matter how dog turd the player is, if you play for big market teams, you get votes. Case in point Andrew Wiggins a couple of years ago and Klay Thompson this year. I personally think NBA should move the Allstar game towards the end of the season though. Think of it as the last break before playoffs start.
It’s always been a popularity contest. The point of the all star game is to showcase the fans favourite players. Not the best players. The all nba teams are for the best players. Same for all pro. There’s a difference
Is much as I want it. I don’t think it is his year. He doesn’t quite have the stats even as a number 2 and he’s already missed a lot of time. He’s either gonna get snubbed or make it in on an injury replacement.
Sad that the league is so stacked w/ stat sheet stuffers who get in over Jamal, imagine if Jamal was the #1 option on say Charlotte or wherever, he'd average 30 a game easily.
You are correct. I vote for him every day. He is the best PG in the league when it really counts. If not this year then another championship run should solidify his place.
Lauri Markkanen is the clear star of the hottest team over the past month (9 of last 11), which includes blowout wins over each of Philadelphia, Milwaukee, and Denver in the last week.
I laughed a lot on this video especially on Chuck's facial expression 😂😂 That's what I love about this segment(a combination of serious analyzation & comedy 👏👏👏)
This is exactly why the teams should be 15 instead of 12, there’s still gonna be very deserving guys left off the list. So what if they don’t play, when we talk about an all star nobody cares about what they did in the all star game, it’s the recognition that matters.
this all star tells how talented this season is. Veteran superstars still standing their ground while upcoming young guns are proving their superstar worth.
For years we were told “Losing teams don’t deserve an all-star, especially having 2 all-stars” until the Wolves are first and the Lakers are 11th…shameless
Appreciate Chuck giving one of the most up and coming East surprise team’s Center some respect. Myles deserves some credit even though fans don’t know or acknowledge him.
Brunson went from people saying he was one of the most overpaid dudes in the league to now showing the Knicks might have actually got a bargain for him
We went from teams scoring like 60 in a whole game to teams winning by 60 now. Obviously new rules and stuff help with scoring more but at the same time I feel like the skill gap between the best teams and the worst just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Bad teams are willing to stay bad just as long as the bank statements look good.
Well, that was the Blazers' 2nd worst loss. They were beaten by 65 in 98. Blowouts like this have always been around. 3 of the 5 biggest blowouts were before 2000. 1972, 1991 and 1998. So it's nothing new.
Every scoring stat shows that on average teams are scoring way more now than they ever did. Trying to claim few games here and there is the same thing as what we are seeing now is borderline insane@@jake8748
first 8 teams should get 1 all-star spot by default last 4 spots can be from anywhere... although I would still first look at top 2 teams and only in obvious cases elsewhere winning has to be recognized!
for the first time, i think, in the east at 1:49 to 2:25 guys are elaborating performance of individual, not by team standings... also, it seems, lilard isnt one of the talk of the town no more.... hopefully, they wont do the same like getting 3-4 allstars in one team (atlanta hawks teague horford etc, the likes of detroit (rip chauncy sheed ben, and the likes of curry klay dray).. max 2 per team is enough...
Butler is probably the only guy in the NBA that misses half of the season for the past 5 years so that he can have enough energy for the playoffs....while everyone else is tired, he is well rested.
@@Jablickymorant Weird how Jimmy does not get same vitriol from media than for example Kawhi for missing games. Plus Kawhi has already won a couple of chips, so it makes it more weird.
@@mursuka80 For Kawhi, it started with his highly suspicious injury while with the Spurs (and all the PR issues it caused), and since then everyone has doubted the veracity of his injuries, or at least their severity. It was his camp that deliberately publicized the story. This conflict with the Spurs will hit pretty hard on his legacy. Jimmy, for some reasons, misses games during the regular season but neither the Heat nor him are making a big fuss about it. Jimmy is always present in the PO and has led his team to two finals in 4 seasons. Kawhi has been constently hurt in the PO since the Raptors title run. That's the difference. Same issue but clearly not the same background.
There are so many great players in the NBA specially stats wise. They should do a new format like do an All Star game 2 teams in the east and 2 teams in the west face off in their respective conference. Then the winner of the conference will face off the opposing conference for the final game.
he will get there in time. some of these young guys (haliburton esp) are just now reaching this level of all star status. as much as i hate to agree with him Shaq is right - this is a beauty contest. not always based on skill ALONE. Paolo will have a TV breakout moment (read: not skill wise, he is there already) and then he will be in this type of conversation
They are missing that each team can only have two starting guards and two bench guards. So either Dame, mitchell, or Brunson is not making it in the east which is tough.
Sabonis 20/13/8 with 60% from the field and 40% from three on low volume. Fox balling also. Both worthy to be All-Stars, but I'm not sure if the Kings deserve to have 2 of those. They've been worse this year than last year. Offense has really dropped off with only a marginal improvement on defense (they're still below average).
Kings had some stinker games but I believe their record is better than last year at this point of the season. Could be wrong. They were ahead of schedule for sure like a week ago.
@@prxncemv and the record matters why? It's not like they're the 1st seed. They had a +2.6 point differential last year, and only +0.4 this year (barely positive). Last year they had the best offensive rating in the league, this year their offensive rating is #14. They did marginally improve their defense from #25 defensive rating last year to #17 rated defense this year. But overall, they had the #8 net rating in 2022-23, and only #17 this season. The drop off is very significant, going from one of the best teams in the league to below average. I'm not really sure why their offense took such a massive dive, perhaps it's possible they might figure it out in the second half of the season, but right now they're not the same team even though the personnel is largely the same.
How is Domantas Sabonis not in the top ten for western front court voting. He has more triple doubles than anybody else in the league besides Joker. Put some respect on his name
one of them is frountcourt , one of them is from backcourt. the comparison is quite silly i think. "i vote Anthony Edwards and Alperen Sengun at the same time"
Some of those starters in the west shouldn’t be starting if we’re being honest. But we know their fan boy clubs won’t allow that to happen. And winning games should have an effect on the starters
jarrett allen is an all star, cavs 10-3 in games since garland and mobley got injured when most thought the season was done, he's stepped up massively.
@@woodlandmac jarrett allen will never get the popularity tho. It's like tyson chandler. But jarrett has already been an all star once so it's possible to get it again.
@@woodlandmac there's tatum giannis embiid bam butler brown randle paolo heck even myles turner so I doubt allen is making it this year over those guys
Shaq is right. All NBA is for individual play and team record. All Star game is just for individual play. The hawks suck be Trae is averaging 28 and 10 cant argue against that
Meh his 28/10 with abysmal defense on low efficiency he’s really overrated “ice trae” votes. Brunson/maxey would be a much better pick. 28 PPG this year is like scoring 22 PPGs a few years ago. Ain’t great with how many shots he gets up.
@@quandaledinglesrjr8951 your nitpicking and that's not how stats work my guy. And saying 28ppg is like 22ppg like just anybody can average 20ppg is insane. Some guys play 10-15 years and don't even get close to that 😂
@@quandaledinglesrjr8951 Honestly my guy you're not FULLY atuned to what he produces on the court and are nothing but merely just another one of them casuals who like to push the false narraitive of labelling him as overated..you realize he's top 10 in steals? Leads the league in total assists and is top 2 in assists? Top 10 in scoring? And also most recently achieved an NBA league record of consecutive 30pnts and 10 assts games? Also find it funny to factor in the "amount of shots he gets up" as a factor of him undeserving of an allstar when pretty much every leader of a team puts up the majority of the shots lol
@@adriansmith2295 it’s not false I think the league has come to know what Trae Young is. He was literally voted the most overrated player in the NBA last year. This may be dumb to others but for me, if there's NBA All Star game with those rewarded for playing well (sengun, brunson, maxey, wagner etc) and a pickup game featuring kyrie, harden, russ and other famous nba superstars at the same night, i'd go watch the pickup game.
I kind of want to see jokic be the captain. He definitely deserves it being the best player for that last 4 years and lebron doesn't really deserve it. Jokic stat wise, win wise, and just eye test wise is doing better than lebron this year.
